Happy Sunday! Another dandy day to be an American. This pinup is rather old school, not a clue who painted it, nor did I add anything.
What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15
As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets†calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out
Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.
The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

They could certainly help by walking the talk, and stop killing trees that pull CO2 out of the atmosphere to publish a newspaper. Oh, and go to handpower to publish, because energy usage puts out CO2. I will give them up-twinkles for at least calling it global warming, instead of climate change
IS THE FIGHT against global warming hopeless? It can seem so. The long-term threat to the climate comes from carbon dioxide, which lingers in the atmosphere for hundreds of years, locking in higher temperatures for generations. After decades of effort, only about one-tenth of America’s energy mix comes from renewable sources that don’t produce carbon dioxide.
And the others seem to leave lots of real environmental degradation.
But two policies can buy the world more time to allow carbon-free technologies to catch up. One is aimed at greenhouse substances that clear out of the atmosphere after a few years, months or even days. Cutting back the emission of soot and ozone gases such as methane would reduce the world’s warming by as much as a half degree Celsius over the next few decades, according to a study in last month’s Science. Adding hydrofluorocarbons — another class of short-lived pollutants — to the list would help even more to delay the approach of temperature thresholds beyond which global warming could be catastrophic.
Show us the way, WP editorial board: tell us all the ways the WP has reduced it’s “carbon footprint.”
Reducing these emissions is relatively cheap, especially when the benefits to health are factored in. For example, primitive cooking stoves in developing countries produce much of the world’s soot; using more efficient ones would prevent perhaps millions of deaths from respiratory illness. Methane, meanwhile, is the primary component of natural gas — a commodity that pipeline or coal-mine operators could sell if they kept it from escaping into the atmosphere. Researchers have even concluded that global crop yields would rise.
You know what would really help in third world shitholes developing countries? Modern, reliable, and inexpensive energy. And I’m not sure what world the WP lives in where reducing these emissions is “relatively cheap.”
It will take more than American money. Regulators in the developing world must enforce stronger air-pollution rules. Since many of the health benefits will be immediate, though, some may be more eager to do so than they have been to cut carbon dioxide emissions. Nations may also add hydrofluorocarbons to the substances regulated by the Montreal Protocol, the treaty responsible for slashing the use of a related class of chemicals.
Looks like the WP is taking the old “we got ours, we’re going to stop you from getting yours” approach.
That path, however, must end with phasing out most, if not all, energy based on fossil fuels. There is reason for hope over the coming years — but not for complacency.
They never did get around to telling us whether the fight against nature playing with the thermometer is hopeless or not. But, we see what their point is: stop using energy. I’ve said time and time again, I’m not particularly enthused about coal and oil. They are dirty, and not from a CO2 point of view. All the methane released from drilling for natural gas worries me, because, in reality, while methane has a much shorter atmospheric lifespan than CO2, it is considered to be anywhere from 20-60 times more potent as a greenhouse gas. But, I’m also a realist, and understand that the world runs on energy, and the the three primary sources are coal, oil, and wood. They’re cheap, reliable, and actually work. Until the “renewables” are in the same category, they are worthless. And most have been tried for decades, if not centuries.
And then there are some like hydropower, which enviroweenies are not only blocking any new construction, but actively working to dismantle, so fish aren’t affected. Very few Warmists are embracing these “alternatives” themselves, nor reducing their own CO2 footprint. The WP should go out and replace all their vehicles with vehicles that rely solely on non-fossil fuels, which eliminates pretty much everything. Fossil fuels are needed to create the vehicles, and the electricity to run them tends to come from coal fired plants. The need lubricants, which tend to come from petroleum. Even switching to bikes requires fossil fueled lubrication. I suppose we could switch back to whale oil for that.
Until Warmists actually practice what they preach, and make major changes in their own lives, we can all infer that the anthropogenic global warming/climate change craze is simply a political policy designed to give governments more money and power over its citizens and businesses, which is what liberals always attempt to do.

Gotta love publicly funded radio. Over at 89.3, Southern Calibankrupt’s public radio station, which has “no rant, no spin” as its slogan, we learn
Last week we brought you the story of several documents that were leaked from The Heartland Institute regarding their plans to push an anti-climate change agenda in public schools. Heartland is an organization based in Chicago that is a consistent voice against the climate science and global warming.
Yup, no spin, no rant. You Climate Realists simply hate the climate or something, and want to make kids believe that climate is caused by little green men from Saturn.
And it appears many of his colleagues agree with him. From the Union of Concerned Scientists to the National Center on Science Education, a group that Gleick was about to take a board post on, all condemn his methods while insisting that the real bad guys here are still Heartland for attempting to undermine climate change education. Others say Gleick’s leaking of the Heartland documents has finally exposed the groups methods and motives and least he had the guts to take responsibility for this actions.
Except, the main document appears to be a complete fake. But, yes, Heartland would like to see real science taught in schools, and that there are more than 1 side to the debate. You know, science. And then we get to the guests, which includes
Scott Mandia, Professor of Physical Sciences, Suffolk County Community College; co-founder of the Climate Science Rapid Response Team, a group that connects climate scientists to lawmakers and the media.
Said rapid response team is purely political in nature. If the science could stand on its own, there would be no need. But, anyhow, here’s what he had to say, audio at the link, short transcript via Tom Nelson
At the 2:30 mark of the audio, Mandia says: “…putting on my “dad hat”…[Gleick’s] potentially saving my children and your children and people in the audience because it’s clear Heartland has had a history of subverting science education and they were up to it again. So for all the parents out there, this was something that is going to benefit them.”
See? Theft, ethical violations, misrepresentation, probably falsifying documents, they’re all good, because Gleick was saving kids from …….well, learning science.
BTW, Heartland isn’t kidding around: they’ve apparently had talks with the FBI.

You know what would solve this? A flat tax, where everyone pays the same percentage. It’s that whole “equal protection under the law” thingy
(Washington Post) Sixty-five percent of the people in the AP-GfK poll favor Obama’s plan to require people making $1 million or more pay taxes equal to at least 30 percent of their income. Just 26 percent opposed Obama’s idea.
Yet by 56 percent to 31 percent, more embraced cuts in government services than higher taxes as the best medicine for the budget, according to the survey, which was conducted Feb. 16 to 20. That response has changed only modestly since it was first asked in the AP-GfK poll last March. The question on Obama’s tax on the rich was not asked previously.
The poll also shows people favor Republicans on the economy, 45-43. And protecting the country. And managing the deficit. Taxes. And this is with a sampling of 84% registered voters, 29% Dems, 30% Independents, 25% Republicans.

We already know about the fiscal and political disaster, who’s up for killing the environment?
(Washington Times) Federal officials hailed Solyndra LLC’s plan to create clean energy when they awarded the company more than a half-billion dollars in loans, but the solar-panel maker’s abrupt closure now threatens to leave behind an environmental mess.
The company plans on paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up its own property in Fremont, Calif., but a separate leased property in nearby Milpitas sits vacant with barrels of unknown chemicals and lead-contaminated equipment, attorneys for the landlord, iStarCTL I L.P., said in recent bankruptcy court filings.
iStar, which was finally given the keys to the property, recorded tons of pictures of open barrels of chemicals, “toxic chemicals” signs, and lead contamination, among others. You have to peruse the story for the full effect. And therein lies part of the problem, namely, that production of solar panels requires the use of dangerous chemicals, which can damage the environmental. What is to be done with all these chemicals, some of which are used to make the panels, and some of which are produced while making the panels? Warmists are primarily worried about using them to reduce the amounts of a trace gas necessary for life: why aren’t they concerned about the destruction of the environment?
Where were all the government inspectors and EPA folks?
Solyndra was never about clean, green energy. This was not about saving the planet. This was about raiding the Treasury. This is why you make as your Energy Secretary someone who does not know jack about administration, but hey, he has a Nobel doesn’t he?
