Joe Biden: “Hey, Let’s Put Osama On Obama 2012 Bumper Stickers”

He’s the gift that keeps giving

(Washington Times) The quest marches on for a bumper sticker for the 2012 Obama campaign, and Vice President Joseph Biden Jr. believes the slogan should highlight the death of Osama bin Laden.

At a fundraiser in Manchester, N.H., Thursday night, Mr. Biden offered this suggestion for the campaign’s 2012 bumper sticker: “Osama bin Laden is dead, and General Motors is alive.”

Hooray, Obama authorized the mission that killed Osama! Hooray, Obama saved GM, putting a good chunk in the hands of the unions, without truly fixing the problems inherent in what caused the crash in the first place. The latter would be popular with his liberal base, the former, well, lots of them were upset that Osama wasn’t captured and brought to the US for a civilian trial, and, really, a good chunk believe that 9/11 was a false flag operation.

I find it interesting that Team Obama isn’t proposing the use of his Stimulus and/or health care plans for a bumper sticker slogan. It’s almost like they don’t want to talk about them. It’s also interesting that they spend more time worrying about slogans and Obama’s re-election, rather than fixing the problems inherent in the economy. Perhaps they could put “We Love $5 Gas!” on his bumper sticker.

Anyhow, what are your ideas for his slogan? I’m up for “The Shining Disaster On the Hill.”

Remember The Meme About Santorum Being “Anti-Women”?

The Politico and the Democrats, but, I repeat myself, thought that the contraception mandate issue was the perfect issue for Democrats, as they could paint Republicans, and Santorum, as “anti-women” (despite marrying one and having three daughters). How’s that working out?

(Washington Post) Over the past several weeks, Republicans have watched squeamishly as presidential contender Rick Santorum has waded into multiple controversies that risk alienating half the 2012 electorate: women.

But in fact, Santorum has grown more popular among women while talking about his opposition to abortion, his disapproval of birth control and his view that the federal government shouldn’t pay for prenatal screenings. A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows not only that Santorum is doing better among GOP women than he was a few weeks ago, but also that he is less unpopular — and also less well known — among Democratic and independent women than his Republican rivals Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

Since the abortifacient kerfuffle started, Rick jumped from about 47% favorability among GOP women to 57%. Romney is sitting at 61%. Santorum also has a lower unfavorable rating than Mitt, 18% to 28%.

Voters and political strategists alike say Santorum’s rise has less to do with his views on these issues than on his ability to relate to the daily struggles of the middle class.

Of course, the Washington Post, being the good little in the tank liberals they are, try to paint Rick as unelectable and the GOP as out of touch, but, they had to point out that

..there is no evidence that Santorum’s position among women in either party has dropped in recent weeks. That is a surprise to some Republicans, who have watched uncomfortably as he has engaged in high-profile discussions about abortion, contraception and prenatal screening.

Most rational adults understand that these are Santorum’s personal views, which he won’t impose on others. They further understand that Santorum is attacking them from a Big Central Government and Constitutional point of view, not a religious or feelings one. The screeching ninnies on the Left, along with some squishy Republicans, failed to paint Santorum as the leader of a coming theocracy.

Santorum’s popularity has probably risen, several Republicans said, because he has stuck to his views while working to change the subject back to the core issue of the economy. That is something that Romney, despite his business background, has not done well, several Republican and Democratic strategists said.

That’s a big point. I mentioned a ways ago that my concern with Santorum was that he was always known as a social issues guy running in an election cycle about the economy, and that he would have to really push hard to show his economic chops. Sure, his record isn’t perfect: what politicians is? The GOP base would destroy Reagan today over his amnesty for illegals.

The rest of the article points out that Rick tends to talk about day to day affairs, like picking the kids up and hitting the grocery store to buy milk, and day to day issues are what women are focused on. Rick sticks to his guns, talks about what matters, and has turned being the flavor of the month into a long term challenge to Romney.

Wake Up America has much more.

Obama Thinks You’re Stupid: Pushes Algae For Fuel

He does, he really does (Via The Lonely Conservative)

(Washington Examiner) President Obama admitted today that he does not have a “silver bullet” solution for skyrocketing gas prices, but he proposed alternative energy sources such as “a plant-like substance, algae” as a way of cutting dependence on oil by 17 percent.

“We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance, algae — you’ve got a bunch of algae out here,” Obama said at the University of Miami today. “If we can figure out how to make energy out of that, we’ll be doing alright. Believe it or not, we could replace up to 17 percent of the oil we import for transportation with this fuel that we can grow right here in America.”

As I wrote over at TLC, I can attack this from a political, an economic, an energy, an environmental, and even a greenhouse gas point of view (though I really believe that a simple quadruple face palm picture would suffice).

  • Political: he’s simply saying you people are idiots, and that he’s not to blame. This should play well as average citizens feel the pain of high energy prices affecting them directly and through rising consumer prices for food, clothing, everything. And, let’s consider, Democrats have been saying for 40 years that drilling for oil won’t help, because it’ll take 10 years to develop. Um, how long would it take to make biofuel out of algae? A decade? Multi-decades? Cause it really only exists as an experiment at this point.
  • Economic: looking at some pie in the sky unicorn based energy platform which might exist decades down the road sure won’t help in the near future. Some say rising gas prices show that the economy is getting better. There is some truth to that. But, there is a tipping point when gas and energy prices cause the economy to tank, and the prices do true harm to the finances of people and companies.
  • Energy: refer back to “it take a buttload of a long time to even get to that 17%”. Thanks, Democrats!
  • Environmental: what is the effect in turning algae into a synthetic fuel? We already know that corn based ethanol uses vast amounts of water to create, and wastes huge tracks of land instead of growing food, driving up prices, and, it is still bad for the environment, because it is still a fuel. And that’s not even considering how it puts more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere than gasoline. What happens if these vast vats of algae based fuels enter the biosphere? No one is sure. These biofuels always seem to come with a cost. For palm oil, large swaths of jungle are being clear cut and the animals, such as orangutans, are being intentionally hunted to create palm seed plantations for fuel.
  • Greenhouse gases: again, we already know that most biofuels tend to create just as much, if not more, greenhouse gases for less power output than gasoline. How does this help replace easily obtainable oil?

And let’s once again consider that Democrats, including Obama, have scoffed at drilling for oil because “it would take a decade.” They’ve been working on biofuels for decades, and it’s still only in its infancy.

We could also get into the other types of alternative energy sources, and the current and future environmental damage being done/will be done. But, really, do we actually need a guy who is constantly taking unnecessary fossil fueled flights all over the country for campaign events and vacations, who drives around in 17 car motorcades in vehicles that get terrible fuel mileage, and keeps the thermostat set about 75 in the White House, to lecture the rest of us? Someone Else is paying for all his energy usage. The rest of us aren’t so lucky.

Good News! Pa. Judge Totally Cool With Assault On Zombie-Muhammed

Guess the religion of assaulter

(WHTM) It almost sounds like the makings of a joke: an atheist, a Muslim and the Mechanicsburg Halloween parade. But non-believers aren’t laughing about an attack and insist what’s really frightening is the way a district judge ruled on it.

The Atheists of Central Pennsylvania decided to walk in the Mechanicsburg Halloween parade. There was a zombie Pope and a zombie Muhammed. On YouTube, you can catch a scary moment. It’s dark and distorted, but a Muslim man comes off the curb extremely offended at Muhammed being depicted in this way.

“He grabbed me, choked me from the back, and spun me around to try to get my sign off that was wrapped around my neck,” said Ernie Perce, who donned the costume.

Both men called the police: one because he had been assaulted, the other because he thought it was against the law to profane Muhammed.

Talaag Elbayomy was charged with harassment, but District Judge Mark Martin threw it out after criticizing Perce, the victim, and even calling him a “doofus.” The audio is also on YouTube. Martin, who has done several tours of duty in the Middle East, said Perce would be put to death in those societies for his crime, but Perce wonders why that’s relevant in this country.

“He let a man who is Muslim, because of his preference of his culture and his way of life, walk free from an attack,” Perce said.

How to respond? Is this a case of a growing use of Sharia law in our courts? Is this a case of a Dhimmi on the bench? Who knows? What we do know is that Judge Martin blatantly dismissed assault charges for an absurd reason. I wonder how he would have ruled had the attacker been a Christian on zombie-Pope?

Friday update: apparently, Judge Martin stated in court that he was offended by zombie Muhammad because he’s a Muslim. Ace has the 411.

Looks like this getting a bit more coverage now in the blogosphere : story up at National Review, and plenty of links at Memeorandum, including The Jawa Report, Verum Serum, and Sister Toldjah.

Ron Paul Would Consider Judge Napolitano As V.P.

As Jonn Lilyea points out, this should be a nail in Paul’s coffin

(WND) Paul was asked the question about whom he would like on a White House ticket with him at a recent public meeting, and he said, “One time somebody asked me who I’d have to consider and the name Judge Napolitano jumps right out at me.”

As Jonn also points out, World Net Daily is not the most reliable source (personally, I think they’ve gone slightly bat guano crazy over the past few years), but, you never know. Jonn attacks this from a Stolen Valor point of view, read it all, but, let’s also consider that Napolitano has also professed to perhaps being a 9/11 Truther. Like Ron Paul, Napolitano is a favorite of conspiracy radio, such as the Alex Jones show (though not every show is wacky, as in the link I provided).

Napolitano often sounded more like a Progressive when he’d yammer on about illegal wars when he was on Fox News. Personally, I’d  turn the channel whenever he came on, after one episode of the Glenn Beck show. Napolitano was guest hosting, and referred to the Afghanistan operations as an illegal war, and even a false flag operation. Here’s video from a different talk on the subject by Napolitano. He’s also called the killing of Osama “illegal” and “murder.”

But, then, all this would make him a perfect V.P. candidate for Ron Paul.

Warmist DeSmog Blog Deems Heartland Doc “Authentic”, Fail To Consult Dan Rather

Megan MCardle has the perfect quote

“When skeptics complain that global warming activists are apparently willing to go to any lengths–including lying–to advance their worldview, I’d say one of the movement’s top priorities should be not proving them right”

And they will go to any lengths to protect their religion

A line-by-line evaluation of the Climate Strategy memo, which the Heartland Institute has repeatedly denounced as a “fake” shows no “obvious and gross misstatements of fact,” as Heartland has alleged. On the contrary, the Climate Strategy document is corroborated by Heartland’s own material and/or by its allies and employees.

It should be interesting when they have to prove this in a court of law, which seems to be the direction Heartland is moving.

It also uses phrases, language and, in many cases, whole sentences that were taken directly from Heartland’s own material. Only someone who had previous access to all of that material could have prepared the Climate Strategy in its current form.

Except, it’s rather easy to go Heartland’s website and put together a document, coble together some phrases, and provide a document. Just ask Lucy Ramirez and Bill Burkett. How’s Dan Rather doing after saying the document was “real”?

In all the circumstances – taking into account Peter Gleick’s explanation of the origin of the Heartland documents, and in direct contradiction of Heartland’s stated position – DeSmogBlog has concluded that the Climate Strategy memo is authentic.

They then go on to try and “prove” the document is real. And fail. As MCardle stated in a previous post

It was probably not written by anyone who had intimate familiarity with Heartland’s operations, because it made clear errors about the Koch donations–the amount, and the implied purpose.  It also hashed the figures for a sizable program, and may have made other errors that I haven’t identified.

The time zones and other things seem to have been changed. The Koch donation was for health care, not globull warming. There are massive run on sentences. The style is different from the other documents, both in the dump and docs on different subjects from Heartland. My favorite paragraph is this one

Heartland plays an important role in climate communications, especially through our in-house experts (e.g., Taylor) through his Forbes blog and related high profile outlets, our conferences, and through coordination with external networks (such as WUWT and other groups capable of rapidly mobilizing responses to new scientific findings, news stories, or unfavorable blog posts). Efforts at places such as Forbes are especially important now that they have begun to allow highprofile climate scientists (such as Gleick) to post warmist science essays that counter our own. This influential audience has usually been reliably anti-climate and it is important to keep opposing voices out. Efforts might also include cultivating more neutral voices with big audiences (such as Revkin at DotEarth/NYTimes, who has a well-known antipathy for some of the more extreme AGW communicators such as Rornm, Trenberth, and Hansen) or Curry (who has become popular with our supporters). AVe have also pledged to help raise around $90,000 in 2012 for Anthony Watts to help him create a new website to track temperature station data. Finally, we will consider expanding these efforts further, or developing new ones, if funding can be obtained.

It’s a Warmist’s wet dream, basically saying that there is tons of coordination being driven, when, in reality, Realists see a big story somewhere, like at WUWT, Climate Depot, Tom Nelson, Junk Science, or others, and post it up.

Then there is the phrase that has bothered me from the get-go: “anti-climate.” Has anyone seen a Climate Realist say they are “anti-climate”? I thought not. And Realists actually look forward to the Warmist voices, and continually challenge them to debates, which the warmists are too chicken-sh*t to accept.

Of course, most of the Warmists are accepting DeSmog’s “analysis” as fact, as a way of confirming their biases, as a way of saying “see? Those damned deniers hate science, and look at their coordination!” A bit like calling the kettle black.

Six Takeaways From The Arizona Debate

Whew! Last nights debate, the 220th one during this primary season….what? It was only number 20? Seems like 220. Anyhow, it came and went, and Politico’s Maggie Haberham breaks it down with six takeaways

1. Rick Santorum didn’t get it done

The evening could have been Santorum’s moment to move the needle in his favor, and he simply couldn’t make it happen.

The former Pennsylvania senator, who has been an agile debater with a surprising ability to take the fight to Romney in past debates, seemed nervous, tired and uncomfortable at the outset. The seating dynamic, with the four hopefuls at a table, nearly bumping elbows, may have played a part in that.

I only saw a small bit of it (was working), and he did seem a bit tired. His body language was a bit off. At one point, after he attempted to skewer Romney, Santorum was leaning way back in his chair as Romney skewered him. Perhaps Mitt needed a Certs? It was almost a “whatever, dude” moment, like a kid being scolded by his dad. Not quite as bad as Ron Paul wearing his big brothers ill fitting suit, though.

2. Mitt Romney won

It wasn’t a knockout, and it was far from Romney’s best performance of the year. But the former Massachusetts governor did what he needed to do, on a night that was far from stellar for his rivals.

Romney was buoyed, as he was in the Florida debates, by a crowd that favored him — a product of a favorable state, or smart campaign advance work, or both. Either way, he was cheered on repeatedly, and it worked for him.

The crowd did seem to be with him. So did the CNN moderator, in the few questions I heard.

3. Santorum and Romney really don’t like each other

On this, who cares?

4. Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul were basically non-factors

With the exception, of course, of how they worked to ding the other candidates. This was most pronounced in the case of Paul, whose “bromance” with Romney is now an openly-discussed fact of the 2012 campaign, including by the Texas congressman himself.

Again, I only heard a short bit, but Gingrich gave an excellent, though off question, response regarding government over-reach and the problems with the federal bureaucracy. Paul was his usual “America is a nation of warmongers, and illegal wars, and, why doesn’t anyone take me seriously?”

5. Some issues will last long after the debate

6. The likely season finale went out with a whimper, not a bang

From what I’ve read about the rest of the debate, the questions asked missed quite a bit. Illegal immigration was addressed a bit, but, what about housing? That’s a huge issue in Arizona. The questions were designed to get the candidates fighting, rather than lay out their own positions, and even to keep them off of mention the horrific job Obama has done as president, comparable to Sun Microsystems Jonathan Schwartz.

What’s your take?

Obama To Blame Others For Rising Gas Prices Thursday

While attempting to toot his own horn

(Bloomberg) President Barack Obama will try to head off the political impact of rising gasoline prices as Republicans vow to make the price at the pump an issue in the 2012 election campaign.

Obama plans events this week focusing on his administration’s efforts to expand domestic exploration and development of alternative energy sources to combat cyclical spikes in gas prices.

He’s going to blame China, Iran, speculators, people who fail yo properly inflate their tires and get tune ups, anybody but himself.

The White House press secretary, Jay Carney, came to his daily press briefing armed with statistics about domestic exploration and said Obama favors various forms of energy, including higher fuel-efficiency standards, nuclear reactor development and alternative energy research.

He will discuss the steps his administration has taken to increase domestic production of oil and natural gas, raise fuel efficiency standards and promote new construction of nuclear facilities, officials said.

How’s that worked so far? Much like the unemployment rate, the US has had sustained high gas and energy prices throughout Obama’s time as emperor, er, president. And the rates continue to rise.

This will be a purely political speech, one in which Obama ducks all responsibility, and one in which he provides no true solutions. The phrase you’ll be hearing in your head is “suck it up, buttercup. Buy a Volt.” Because energy just magically appears from unicorn farts in Obama World. And one in which the taxpayers pay for his gas for the 17 car motorcades and unnecessary fossil fueled flights to campaign events and vacation spots.
