Warmist: Rising Seas Means….More Land (?)

I wonder if this will be the new Warmist meme as sea level rise refuses to cooperate, much like how Warmists found a way to say that cold, very snow winters were the result of warming (via Tom Nelson)

(maribo) The short answer, I suppose, is yes. I can point to many shorelines that don’t look the same as they did seven years ago. The long answer, however, is that the change is quite often not what you might expect on a planet with a rising ocean. In many cases, there’s more land.  The reason is that shorelines are constantly changing in response to natural variability and human disturbance, in addition to the global trend. That’s the subject of my recent article in EOS and our video “Lessons of Bikeman“.

Yeah. Ok. Except, the actual data shows fluctuation well within the norm for sea rise for Kiribati, and none over the past few years. But, it could be destroyed by poo infested waters.

Romney Slams Obama’s Stimulus At “Bridge To Nowhere”

Jumping back in the Wayback machine, I mentioned the bridge in Hillsborough, N.H., back in mid 2010 as one of the complete wastes of money from the Stimulus. $150,000 was wasted on some stone work and railings for a historic bridge that 1. stops and 2. literally goes nowhere.

(LA Times) Mitt Romney rounded out a week focused on what he views as overspending by the federal government with a critique of President Obama’s stimulus program during a speech in front of what opponents call New Hampshire’s “bridge to nowhere.”

Romney has argued throughout the campaign that Obama’s $787-billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was a waste of money that did little to jump-start the economy — and he has charged that the federal government has inflated the job numbers associated with various projects.

On Friday, Romney mocked a project to preserve and enhance the historic Stone Arch bridge, work that was to include new surfacing, construction of parking area and bike trails linking the site to surrounding businesses.

“You all know the story of this bridge; this is part of the president’s stimulus plan. He went out and borrowed $787 billion and said that if we’re allowing him as Congress allowed him to borrow that kind of money, that he would hold unemployment below 8%, and it hasn’t been below 8% since,” Romney said, criticizing the amount of stimulus money that was spent for each job created.

The photo is from the LA Times story, and they have a bigger copy. Here’s a closer view of the bridge from my previous article

Some will say “it’s just $150k, what’s the big deal?” How many people could have been fed with that money? Why should the government waste taxpayer money?

Surprise! Men With Links To Occupy Movement Charged With Terrorism

Now, if these folks were arrested prior to a Tea Party rally, most of the media would be digging heavily to determine their links to the TP, or, heck, simply insinuating the connections and telling us this means the TP is simply violent. There’s very little interest when it comes to left wing activists

(NBC Chicago) Three protesters arrested Wednesday night at an apartment in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood have been charged with terrorism conspiracy stemming from allegations they planned to make Molotov cocktails, police said.

Brian Church, 20, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Jared Chase, 24, of Keene, N.H.; and Brent Vincent Betterly, 24, of Oakland Park, Mass., were being held on charges of conspiracy to commit terrorism, possession of an explosive or incendiary device and providing material support, Chicago police Lt. Kenneth Stoppa told the Associated Press early Saturday.

Personally, I think the use of terrorism charges is a little much. It seems to be very much over-used.

Their attorney, Sarah Gelsomino, said the men were “absolutely in shock and have no idea where these charges are coming from.

“The National Lawyers Guild deplores the charges against Occupy activists in the strongest degree,”  Gelsomino said in a statement decrying the charges. “It’s outrageous for the city to apply terrorism charges when it’s the police who have been terrorizing activists and threatening their right to protest.”

Ah, so they’re Occupiers, per their lawyer.

The far left agitators claim that they had beer making equipment, not bomb making equipment, and that the arrests were in retaliation for a traffic stop by the Chicago police that was filmed. The police say the arrests were part of a month long investigation. A judge had signed off on the search warrant prior to the bust. Of course, the left wing agitators have taken a page from the al Qaeda manual and claim they were abused, showered with insults, not allowed to use the bathroom, etc. Time will tell whether the charges will stand. But, really, can anyone really believe that Occupiers would be violent? We surely saw no rapes, murders, stabbings, mayhem, vandalism, theft, throwing rocks, or attempting to blow up bridges from the Occupy movement, right?

The Election 2012 Raaaaacism Meme Grows

We knew that Left, the Obama campaign, and their media syncophants would play the race card: what else do they have? Obama pushed the meme a bit himself the other day when he appeared on The View, stating that “when you have a name like mine, the race is going to be a bit tight.” Couldn’t have anything to do with your agenda and policies, and performance, could it, champ? Then there’s this (via PJ Tattler)

(CNN) “My heart says he will win here, but my head says it’s going to be awfully tough for him,” said Gary Pearce, a longtime Democratic consultant and adviser to former Gov. Jim Hunt. “This is a tight state for him. Race is part of it. The economy is a big problem. Four years ago he was new, he was exciting. He was hope and change. That has worn off now. The glow is gone. It’s going to be tough for him to catch magic in the bottle again.”

The economy is part of it, but, it’s mostly raaaaacism. There there’s this Colbert King op-ed at the Washington Post, promoted on the WP’s Internet front page as “White like him”

Missing in his Liberty offering, as with some other Romney speeches, is any recognition — not praises, mind you, but simple acknowledgment — that 21st-century America is more than a white, middle-class country. (snip)

But what does the man who seeks to lead this country have to say about, and to, this rapidly changing nation of diverse people with diverse interests and needs?

Thus far, Romney’s thoughts and policy prescriptions seem focused on America’s largest — and slowest-growing — racial group: his own. (snip)

The question is much broader and more significant: When Mitt Romney thinks and speaks of Americans, do those who don’t look like him even come to mind?

Maybe, unlike Democrats, he looks out and sees Americans, not class, race, and interest groups…..na, gotta be raaaaacism.

There recent Jeremiah Wright references were, of course, raaaaacism, not a serious inquiry initiated by Wright after it came to light that the Obama campaign (supposedly) attempted to bribe Wright to just go away. Attacks on Mormonism, well, those are OK, of course.

Greenie Pig Suggests Not Buying Anything New For A Month

Then we’d be Saved!

(Grist) Nothing like deprivation to muddy up your understanding of “want” vs. “need.”

For instance, here’s a sampling of items I’ve considered “needs” over the past two weeks: new sports bras, shower curtain, new couch pillows, lime-squeezer kitchen gadget, iPad case, duchess satin bridesmaid dress, cat scratching post, and a handmade silver ring shaped like a poppy. This is doubly remarkable, as I’m not really the shopping type. But I’m also in the middle of a self-imposed No New Stuff May, and we all know what happens when you start branding the fruit forbidden.

My No New Stuff month is a challenge not to buy anything brand-new for the 31 days of May (food and certain toiletries obviously excepted, you sickos). Why? I already have everything I need to stay hale and hearty, and my small apartment wouldn’t fit much more stuff, anyway. But really, it’s a small stand against a “Bigger, Better, More!” culture that tosses perfectly good items into landfills and gobbles up new resources to build still more stuff — much of which we don’t even need.

In all fairness, she does have a point about too much stuff being discarded into landfills……wait, she has an iPad? OK, it was given to her by work, but iPads are bad for Globull Warming, because they use lots of energy.

On a roll, I decided to freshen up our old shower curtain. It had put in a couple of years of solid service, and was basically fine, if rather grimy. Before No New Stuff month, my admittedly spotty thinking on the matter had been, “Shower curtains have a limited shelf life, right? At a certain point, they just get too gross to save.” Maybe, but honestly, mine was nowhere near that point. So I sighed, yanked it down, and spread it flat for a deep cleaning.

We’re saved!

If Warmists really want to try a month long project, they should give up all fossil fuels for a month. See how that goes.

PS : the Warmists are not really happy with me in the comments at Grist. I do enjoy their deflections, though.

Feds Spent A Meager $70 Billion On “Climate Change” Since 2008

But Warmists are concerned about a few million spent in “denying” the Cult of Gore

(Daily Caller) The Congressional Research Service estimates that since 2008 the federal government has spent nearly $70 billion on “climate change activities.”

Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Inhofe presented the new CRS report on the Senate Floor Thursday to make the point that the Obama administration has been focused on “green” defense projects to the detriment of the military.

The report revealed that from fiscal years 2008 through 2012 the federal government spent $68.4 billion to combat climate change. The Department of Defense also spent $4 billion of its budget, the report adds, on climate change and energy efficiency activities in that same time period.

Warmists whine about the Koch brothers, Exxon, Shell, Heartland, etc and so on spending a paltry few million dollars here and there on what Warmists call a “disinformation campaign.” Yet, Warmists have the money of the federal government US taxpayer to prop up their religion.

And they still fail to act on their beliefs. No, Warmists, changing a lightbulb or two doesn’t count.

Queen Pelosi: Don’t Protect Military Religious Leaders From Decisions Against Their Faith

What she’s saying is that there she prefers laws that restrict people from the free practice of their religion

(CNS News) House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she stands with the White House in opposing a provision in the House defense authorization bill that would prohibit anyone in the military from ordering a chaplain to act against his or her “conscience, moral principles, or religious beliefs” or against the religious beliefs of the denomination to which he or she belongs.

Pelosi described the conscience-protection provision as a “fraud.”

The provision is broadly written to deny anyone in the armed forces the authority to “direct, order, or require a chaplain to perform any duty, rite, ritual, ceremony, or function” that is contrary to his or her conscience, moral principles or religious beliefs or the principles or beliefs of his or her religious denomination.

Among other things, the provision would protect a chaplain from deleterious career repercussions if he or she refused to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony because it violated their religious beliefs.

Shockingly, many chaplains might have a problem with being forced to marry gays, just like gays might have a problem with not being allowed to be married.

Interestingly, in Pelosi’s world, if chaplains should have no dispensation to follow their faith, then “conscientious objectors” should have no dispensation to avoid combat duties based on their beliefs. Fair is fair.

Altercation Between Zimmerman, Martin “Ultimately Avoidable”, Drugs In Martin’s System

More evidence released in the case

(CNN) Just over two weeks after the fatal shooting, and less than a month before an arrest was made, police in Sanford, Florida, urged prosecutors to take George Zimmerman into custody after arguing his killing of Trayvon Martin was “ultimately avoidable.”

This disclosure came out Thursday, part of a wealth of information released that is related to the case, including the medical’s examiner’s finding that the 17-year-old Martin had traces of drugs in his system in an autopsy conducted hours after his death.

Overall, the newly released material paints the most complete picture yet of how investigators built the case, as well as its complexity. The police perspective was most succinctly stated in a March 13 “capias request” — a request that someone be taken into custody — sent to the state’s attorney. It speaks to the fact that Zimmerman ignored a police dispatcher’s advice not to chase Martin, as well as his communications with Martin prior to the shooting.

What kinds of drugs?

Martin’s blood contained THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to autopsy results released Thursday. The autopsy was conducted February 27, the day after the teenager was shot dead.

A little something in there for everyone. Zimmerman could have retreated. Martin had been smoking marijuana at some point (note, it stays in the system for up to 30 days), which highlights that he wasn’t some angelic little darling.

That said, can the prosecution make a case for 2nd degree murder, or did they vastly over-reach?
