Shockingly, Reducing Your Carbon Footprint Involves Changing Your Lifestyle

I’m shocked. I thought it was all about spreading awareness, telling other people how to live their lives, and taking unnecessary fossil fueled flights to exotic vacation spots for climate conferences

(Good Education) Cooler Smarter: Practical Steps for Low-Carbon Living came out this week. And true to its promise, it uses research to determine which green actions make the most difference. I’m disappointed in the answers they came up with, though—not because they’re wrong or overly complicated, but because they’re not.

After two years of research, UCS found that the most important strategies for reducing a person’s carbon footprint are to change “what and how you drive, the energy you use at home, and what you eat.”

So, after all that time they came up with “practice what you preach”? The horror!

The author points out that this is basic knowledge, and, for AGW, everything else is secondary.

If we already know how to live without creating so much carbon, that raises a more disturbing question: Why aren’t we doing it? There is any number of excuses: Fixing buildings requires investing a chunk of cash up front, and deciding on the right retrofits is a complicated process. Meat is too good to give up. Clean energy is more expensive. If Congress had only passed cap-and-trade, we wouldn’t need to be making these choices, because more carbon-intensive products would cost more and fewer people would buy them.

Because it’s haaaaaawd, and others should be forced to Do Something by government decree.

Joe Biden: My Parents Always Believed I Could Be Vice President

The Blaze covers Biden’s angry and unhinged rant in Ohio, and pulls out this amusing quote

My mother believed and my father believed, that if I wanted president of the United States, I could be, I could be vice president. [Actual quote as it was delivered]

The gift that keeps on giving (around the 51 second mark)

I like how Joe equates tedious, menial, thought not-necessary jobs as “middle class.”

Reasonable Climate Scientist Says AGW Is Like Exploding 400K Atomic Bombs A Day

Remember, these are the folks that are supposed to be interested in sciiiiiiiience, not hyperbole (via Climate Depot)

(Vancouver Observer) The amazing persistence of CO2 in the air has allowed billions of our small emissions, like those from the Enola Gay, to amass into an ever growing threat to civilization. How fast is that threat growing? In a must-see TED talk, NASA climate scientist James Hansen say the current increase in global warming is:

“…equivalent to exploding 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs per day 365 days per year. That’s how much extra energy Earth is gaining each day.”

That’s 278 atomic bombs worth of energy every minute – more than four per second — non-stop. To be clear, that is just the extra energy being gained each day on top of the energy heating our planet by 0.8 degree C. It is the rate at which we are increasing global warming.

Of course, this means we are doomed. That massive increase of 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit during the 2oth century proves it. Amazingly, the article gets even dumber after that

Warmer air can hold more water. Last year, NASA said satellite measurements showed it rained so hard around the world that the oceans fell.

Funny how they also seem to find a way to blame anthropogenic global warming for everything that happens that disputes their theory hypothesis crystal ball.

According to research by Hansen and others, extreme heat used to cover less than 1 per cent of our earth’s surface. But our CO2 has now cooked 10 per cent of our planet into “extreme heat” conditions at any given point in time.

Say, what caused all those deserts around the world before fossil fuels?

For a laugh, read the whole article.

Obama Budget So Popular Not One Democrat Voted For It

In fact, budgets are so unpopular that not one Democrat cast any vote in favor of a budget

(Washington Times) President Obama’s budget suffered a second embarrassing defeat Wednesday, when senators voted 99-0 to reject it.

Coupled with the House’s rejection in March, 414-0, that means Mr. Obama’s budget has failed to win a single vote in support this year.

Republicans forced the vote by offering the president’s plan on the Senate floor.

All sorts of ObamaZombies have tried to position this as some sort of GOP gimmick, forcing the Senate Dems to actually *GASP* vote on budgets. The Mahablog, The Politico, and many others highlight this vote as being a gimmick, as not being fair. It’s not like voting is what Congress is supposed to do. Along with actually passing a budget, which is kinda required by law.

Anyhow, Powerline points out

Four different Republican budgets were taken up by the Senate. The House budget (commonly referred to as the Ryan budget) was voted down 41-58. The vote on Pat Toomey’s budget was 42-47; the vote on Rand Paul’s budget was 16-83; and the vote on Mike Lee’s budget was 17-82. The common denominator was that no Democrat had the courage to vote for any of them.

John Hinderaker also provides this handy dandy quote from Jeff Session

Today, before the whole nation, the majority party running the Senate effectively declared that as long as they’re in charge this country will not have a budget.

Their message is simple: Send Washington more money. Don’t ask us what we’ll do with it. They’re determined to avoid public accountability as our nation spends its way to financial disaster.

If there is no budget, then why do The People have to send them tax money? There is no accountability, we have no idea what they will do with our money. But, if you fail to send tax money to them, you’ll be in legal trouble. If they shirk their legal duties, well, they surely won’t hold themselves responsible.

Latest Democrat Distractions: Torture And JP Morgan

They darned sure don’t want to talk about the economy, which, under their stewardship, crashed when they assumed control of Congress. When adding a Democrat president to the mix, they added legislation that didn’t help alleviate the recession, and made the private business environment toxic. The recession officially ended in June 2009, yet the United States has wallowed in pathetic conditions since. So, what now? Two from The Hill

The Senate Intelligence Committee plans to finish a long-awaited report on “enhanced interrogation techniques” this summer, reviving the debate over whether the United States has engaged in torture.

The panel’s lengthy report has been more than three years in the making and examines controversial interrogation techniques such as water boarding and sleep deprivation.

The release of the report is likely to move the issue of enhanced interrogation to the forefront of the political debate as the parties vie for control of Congress and the White House.

I think we can expect Senate hearings on this, calling forth witnesses, subpoenaing former interrogators and Bush era officials in order to create a circus and throw some red meat to their base. Republicans point out that we wouldn’t have gotten Osama Bin Laden without the use of enhanced interrogation methods. It’s a cute distraction, eh? However, Repubulicans will be able to point out that the Senate Democrats haven’t held hearings on Fast and Furious, a program which ended up killing Americans.

Democratic candidates are using JPMorgan’s $2 billion loss in campaign attacks against Wall Street, a trend liberal groups predict will escalate between now and election day.

Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren (D) led the charge earlier this week by calling for a “new Glass-Steagall Act” that would limit what types of trades banks can be involved in. She followed that with a radio ad touting her work on Wall Street reform that said, “she told all the Wall Street banks to clean up their act.”

While it would probably make sense to create a separation between holding banks and trading banks, there was nothing illegal in the loss. Furthermore, perhaps Warren should stop taking Wall Street money.

New Mexico House candidate Eric Griego (D), a liberal netroots favorite in a tough primary race, released his own ad on Tuesday calling for “Wall Street bankers who broke the law go to jail.”

Perhaps Griego could point out who broke which law. So far, being a fool and making bad investments isn’t illegal.

The article goes on to discuss how many “progressive” organizations think this will become a campaign issue deep into general election time. I say to the Democrats “go for it.” It’ll give Romney and the Republicans a chance to highlight Obama’s own donations from Wall Street, investment bankers, links to Jamie Dimon, etc. Also, they’ll have the opportunity to highlight the enormous amounts of taxpayer money Democrats and Obama have wasted on failed projects, including the weatherization scheme, Solyndra, and First Solar. Are you better off now than you were before the $800 billion Stimulus?

Indonesian Snowflakes Learn About The Most Dangerous Greenhouse Gas

You know, the one necessary for life on earth

(Jakarta Globe) Rizki, together with 24 other students from his school, recently attended a four-day climate change education forum and expo from April 19-22. The event was organized by the Indonesian National Council on Climate Change (DNPI), as part of efforts to raise environmental awareness ahead of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, or Rio+20, that will take place in Brazil from June 20-22.

The expo in Jakarta offered students tangible solutions to risks posed by climate change.

Rizki and his classmates were briefed on the importance of planting trees to capture carbon dioxide, the most deadly greenhouse gas, which is produced primarily by the combustion of fossil fuels, and forest fires.

I don’t think it is quite as deadly as dihydrogen monoxide, will kills tens of thousands yearly. It can even kill if you don’t have it. Just a few inches can sweep you away and kill you. And it is often accompanied by dangerous electricity and wind. It can come in a frozen form, too. When it is at high levels, it can make people feel miserable.

Most of the story is about indoctrinating the kids, and even their parents, if the parents dare have a different opinion. The article does fail to mention why so many Warmists will be taking unnecessary fossil fueled flights to exotic Brazil

Romney Leads Obama In NC

After all the Democrat smearing of North Carolina post Amendment 1 passing, calling North Carolinians all sorts of names, how’s the race shaping up? (Via Ed Morrissey)

Mitt Romney has moved out to an eight-point lead over President Obama in North Carolina after the two men were virtually tied a month ago.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Tar Heel State shows the putative Republican nominee earning 51% of the vote to Obama’s 43%. Two percent (2%) like some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided. That’s a big change from last month when Romney posted a narrow 46% to 44% lead over the president in Rasmussen Reports’ first survey of the race in North Carolina.

Democrats have signaled North Carolina’s importance as a key swing state by deciding to hold their national convention in Charlotte this summer.

Ed breaks Dow the polling data, which includes some shocks for Obama and the Democrats regarding women’s support for Romney.

It’s still early in the race, but this kind of poll will surely put Team Obama closer to panic mode.

Zimmerman Had Broken Nose, Martin Had Damaged Knuckles

None of this should imply that Zimmerman wasn’t in the wrong. But, it does lend credence to the narrative laid out by George Zimmerman and at least one supposed witness, and highlights that those who immediately called for Zimmerman to get the death penalty, or just arrested and sent to jail, should wait for evidence

(ABC News) A medical report compiled by the family physician of accused Trayvon Martin murderer George Zimmerman and obtained exclusively by ABC News found that Zimmerman was diagnosed with a “closed fracture” of his nose, a pair of black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head and a minor back injury the day after he fatally shot Martin during an alleged altercation.

Appears as if he was in a fight and had his head bashed into the ground.

(WFTV) WFTV has confirmed that autopsy results show 17-year-old Trayvon Martin had injuries to his knuckles when he died.

The information could support George Zimmerman’s claim that Martin beat him up before Zimmerman shot and killed him.

As the article goes on to point out, there could be two reasons for this: Trayvon could have been the aggressor, or, he could have been defending himself/trying to get away. But, there has been no narrative that Zimmerman assaulted Trayvon prior to the shooting.

Liberals wanted some sort of cause to be able to scream “racism”, and they found it in Trayvon. Even though Zimmerman is a Hispanic. Liberals did not care about evidence and the rule of law, nor “innocent till proven guilty.” They wanted their gallon of blood.
