Catholic Organizations Sue Obama Admin. Over Contraceptive Mandate

Nancy Pelosi told us “we have to pass the bill to know what’s in it,” (NMP) Obama said “If you like your health insurance, you can keep it.” We were told that the more we know about Obamacare, the more we’d like it. How’s that working out?

(CNS News) The Archdiocese of New York, headed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., headed by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the University of Notre Dame, and 40 other Catholic dioceses and organizations around the country announced on Monday that they are suing the Obama administration for violating their freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution.

The dioceses and organizations, in different combinations, are filing 12 different lawsuits filed in federal courts around the country.

The Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. has established a special website–preservereligiousfreedom.org–to explain its lawsuit and present news and developments concerning it.

“This lawsuit is about an unprecedented attack by the federal government on one of America’s most cherished freedoms: the freedom to practice one’s religion without government interference,” the archdiocese says on the website. “It is not about whether people have access to certain services; it is about whether the government may force religious institutions and individuals to facilitate and fund services which violate their religious beliefs.”

It’s not often that lawsuits are filed about being able to freely practice one’s religion. They’re usually about removing religion from view, filed by people with delicate sensibilities. The 1st Amendment states that Congress shall pass no law denying the free practice of religion, and that is what Obamacare has done, in giving HHS the power to simply create any rule they want.

Liberals may not like this suit, in their kneejerk, thoughtless support of Obama and socialized government run healthcare, but this will highlight whether or not Liberals support the Constitution/Bill Of Rights. The NY Sun writes

Congratulations are in order for the Catholic Church, whose archdioceses in America went to federal court today to challenge the Obama administration on the contraception mandates. Something like a dozen federal lawsuits were filed against the administration by something on the order of 43 plaintiffs, including the Archdiocese of New York, among others, and the crown jewel in Catholic education in America, Notre Dame.* It seems the liberal institutions within the Catholic world have come together with the conservative ones to stand up for the rights of religious Catholics — and by extension, the rest of us — to be free of government mandates in respect of their religion.

This also begs the question “how will Catholics vote in November?” The Washington Post’s Michael Gerson discusses, and notices Obama’s flagging Catholic support. Obama seems to be doing everything possible to annoy Catholics, as well as other groups. His campaign is not about bringing people together, but dividing them.

Washington Post Fact Checker: Obama’s Terrible On Job Creation

Someone at the Washington Post will surely have received a phone call from the White House today to have a conversation with Josh Hicks, who compares and contrasts the economic records of George Bush and Barack H. Obama (I added the H because it’s raaaaacist): Obama’s remarks on worst job growth: Did he end it or should he own it?. Josh spends quite a bit of time going through numbers and such, and finally concludes

There’s no doubt that Bush owns an unimpressive record on job creation. But Obama comes in either last, second-to-last or in the bottom half among presidents since the Great Depression, depending on which way you look at the numbers.

The president said that policies from 2000 through 2008 produced the “most sluggish job growth we’ve ever seen.” Perhaps so, but the worst numbers on record occurred under his watch.

Obama chose a poor metric for measuring past administrations. To make his point with jobs data, he has to point to his own numbers and completely disavow much of them, or else ignore public-sector losses. We came close to thinking this was worth Three Pinocchios, but ultimately decided he was not necessarily including his record in the statement. Still, it’s a very fine line. The president should be much more careful about making such a sweeping claim.

I’m not going to attempt to defend Bush’s job creation policies: that’s been done to death (of course, Obama and the Dems still think they are running against Bush), but it is interesting to note just how bad the Fact Checker finds Obama’s job creation to be.

ABC News: Globull Warming Is Like WWII As A “Bad Thing”

Good. Grief. Much like Steven Goddard, I have to start this off with a screenshot of the article in order to position the psychopathy of the story

Matthew White uses it elegantly in the title of his fascinating new, big and easy-to-read reference book.

“The Great Big Book of Horrible Things: The Definitive Chronicle of History’s 100 Worst Atrocities” is a bright door stopper and mind opener.

That jaunty title, which often brings a smile to those to whom I mention it, even hints at one reason we may have evolved humor in the first place: A little sugar can make the worst sort of important news at least palatable, so we can swallow it, get it down to where we can try to digest it.

And with a growing number of the world’s climate scientists now speaking publicly about the grave global “catastrophe” and the imminent “threat to global civilization” now building in the form of manmade global warming, White’s book offers a simple, painful lesson.

It reminds us that humanity has often and recently failed to prevent collective calamity, even when many people can see it coming and try to warn everyone.

Man, if there was only something Warmists could do to reduce their own “carbon footprints” down to zero. Well, I can’t think of anything, other than “spreading awareness”: can you? I mean, this looks horrible (via Ice Age Now from Wood For Trees)

That’s the temperature trend since 2001. Scary stuff!

MSM: Obama’s Faith Is Off The Table, Romney’s Isn’t

Sunday, two of the biggest papers on the East coast decided to run long articles on Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith. The NY Times one trended on Memeorandum Sunday, and included subtle digs at Mitt being very religious (see Ann Althouse for more)

As a young consultant who arrived at the office before anyone else, Mr. Romney was being “deseret,” a term from the Book of Mormon meaning industrious as a honeybee, and he recruited colleagues and clients with the zeal of the missionary he once was. Mitt and Ann Romney’s marriage is strong because they believe they will live together in an eternal afterlife, relatives and friends say, which motivates them to iron out conflicts.

Mr. Romney’s penchant for rules mirrors that of his church, where he once excommunicated adulterers and sometimes discouraged mothers from working outside the home. He may have many reasons for abhorring debt, wanting to limit federal power, promoting self-reliance and stressing the unique destiny of the United States, but those are all traditionally Mormon traits as well.

Outside the spotlight, Mr. Romney can be demonstrative about his faith: belting out hymns (“What a Friend We Have in Jesus”) while horseback riding, fasting on designated days and finding a Mormon congregation to slip into on Sundays, no matter where he is.

And, *gasp*, he prays. A lot. Obvioiusly, that means he is a bad choice for president. How dare he have faith!

The Washington Post also took a stab at Mitt’s Mormon roots: Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith tangles with a quirk of Arkansas history

On the wildflower-studded slopes of the Ozarks, where memories run long and family ties run thick, a little-known and long-ago chapter of history still simmers.

On Sept. 11, 1857, a wagon train from this part of Arkansas met with a gruesome fate in Utah, where most of the travelers were slaughtered by a Mormon militia in an episode known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Hundreds of the victims’ descendants still populate these hills and commemorate the killings, which they have come to call “the first 9/11.”

Many of the locals grew up hearing denunciations of Mormonism from the pulpit on Sundays, and tales of the massacre from older relatives who considered Mormons “evil.”

Those are the first three paragraphs of the story, meant to put Mormonism, and Mitt, in a bad light. And then we find out

And yet, there is scant evidence that Romney’s religion is making much difference in how voters here are thinking about the presidential election and whether they are willing to back the former Massachusetts governor.

So, what was the point of the story? Mitt wasn’t alive during that time period, nor does it appear as if his ancestors were involved. Much like the Times’ article, this one seems to be an attempt to make a dig at Mormonism. The Times’ article spent quite a bit of time delving into the history of Mormonism. These aren’t the first articles that take subtle (and not so subtle) digs at Mormonism and Mitt Romeny, and certainly won’t be the last.

But, where are the articles on Obama? The original title of the Times’ article was “How the Mormon Church shaped Mitt Romney.” When will we get the one entitled “How Jeremiah Wright’s Hate Church Shaped Barack Obama”? Will we see one from the Post entitled “Barack Obama’s Black Liberation Theology Tangles With Those Who Don’t Believe In The Phrase “No, no, no, God Damn America!”?

As the media does their pro-Obama magic, will we finally hear about the polygamy of Barack H. Obama’s father, who was married to three women at once? We’ve certainly heard about the polygamy of Romney’s ancestors over a century ago (with the Left’s penchant for being against traditional marriage, why, exactly, is polygamy bad? Perhaps a liberal could explain it). It’s an obvious political bias from the media, and they wonder why people call them biased.

But, then, they really do not want to spend much time comparing and contrasting the economic records of Obama and Romney, because that doesn’t look good for Obama.

Obama To Hunt For Syria’s Chemical Weapons?

Will Liberals around the world freak out over this, as they did with Iraq?

(Zee News) The United States is accelerating its plan with Middle Eastern allies to secure Syria’s vast stockpile of chemical weapons as that crisis in that country continues to worsen, according to a report.

According to America and Middle Eastern officials, the planning, involving intelligence and military officials from at least seven countries, includes detailed arrangements for securing chemical arms with special operations troops in the event that parts of Syria are seized by militants.

The stepped-up preparations have coincided with increased military training in the region, including an unusually large multinational military exercise underway this month in Jordan, Syria’s southern neighbour, The Washington Post reports.

Do we doubt that Syria has WMD? No. We know they do. We knew Iraq had them, and was running programs to develop more. We also know that the protesters in Syria are continually becoming more and more tied to Islamic extremist groups. The bigger question is “will liberals protest with a Democrat in the White House if he goes fishing for WMD?”

Your Random Surfing For Cute Cats And Funny Puppies Is Killing Gaia!

I blame you for that devastating 1.4 degrees F rise in temperature that is killing Gaia

(NoTricksZone) Steffen Hentrich here brings our attention to a report appearing in the Austrian pressetext titled: Senseless Surfing in the Internet Is Destroying The Environment“.

If the entire Internet were a country, it would be the 5th largest consumer of electricity globally, moaned Claudia Sprinz, super-nag of Greenpeace Austria. And that figure, she claims, will triple by the year 2020. A huge consumption of resources is taking place out of pure boredom, Sprinz says. Youtube videos of cats, wondering aimlessly through the web or searching for worthless information that is forgotten three minutes later. This behavior is destroying the environment, she frets.

Sprinz says that people should go out for a walk in the park if they’re bored.

Just a single search for Chuck Norris causes as much CO2 as a car travelling 7.5 cm. 15,000 Google-searches for “funny cats” generate as much CO2 as producing a cheeseburger. Google alone produces 260,000 kilograms of CO2 per month. Every spam generates 0.3 grams of CO2.

It’s been translated, and we also learn that Ms. Sprinz wants a search button that says “Are you really sure you want to search for this and destroy the environment?” Again, this is one of the problems with Warmists: they link real environmental issues with globull warming. The environment will do fine, just like it has the myriad number of times when it was warmer on this planet. The environment will always change. Most of history is of a much, much warmer planet. Warmists are apparently Flat Earthers, though.

And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

Those 3 Occupiers Busted In Chicago Planned Attacks On Obama’s Election HQ, Among Others

I wonder if this information will suddenly turn all those lefties who immediately sided with the “NATO 3” against them

(Chicago Sun Times) A band of out-of-state “domestic terrorists” was accused Saturday of planning to attack President Barack Obama’s campaign headquarters and Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s home — and firebomb police stations and squad cars — declaring that after the NATO Summit “the city will never be the same,” police and prosecutors said.

One of the conspirators warned: “The city doesn’t know what it’s in for,” prosecutors said.

But undercover Chicago Police officers infiltrated the group of NATO Summit protesters in recent weeks. They were with the protesters while they allegedly made Molotov cocktails — bottles filled with flammable liquid that are used as firebombs, sources said.

“We have people watching them do it,” one law enforcement source told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The trio includes Brian Church, 22, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Jared Chase, 27, of Keene, N.H.; and Brent Vincent Betterly, 24, of Oakland Park, Fla. Each was ordered held on a $1.5 million bond Saturday.

They’re charged with possession of an explosive or incendiary device, conspiracy to commit terrorism and providing material support to terrorism. Federal charges are possible, but unlikely, sources said.

Of course, the trio, their lawyers, and left leaning supporters are claiming entrapment and such. Because being caught with a few Molotov cocktails, having purchased gasoline to build them, and having all sorts of weapons, such as a “mortar gun, swords, a crossbow, a throwing star, ninja knives, knives with brass-knuckle handles”, oh,  “and written plans for the assembly of pipe bombs” proves that they are simply peaceful protesters. One wanted to purchase assault rifles to “point back at cops”…wait, I thought those types of guns were completely evil in Liberal World?

Alas, Lefties are actually sympathetic towards these “mostly peaceful” comrades, and #NATO3 is trending on Twitter. I’m seeing ones about there being a big conspiracy, about the Chicago PD running over protesters, that this is an FBI plot and the materials were planted, and more silliness. Weird, I figured Liberals would be upset over the NATO3 wanting to bomb Obama’s OFA HQ. How else would liberals get their talking points and marching orders?
