Good News: Senate Dems Vote To Increase Flying Fees So You Can Be Groped

In a sane world, when most in the private sector have cut back on their home budgets thanks to this long term economic downturn made worse by Democrats, agencies like the Transportation Security Administration would simply do more with less and/or see reductions. (The Hill) The Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday moved forward with legislation to increase airline passenger security fees, beating back a GOP attempt to keep them at current levels.

The 2013 Homeland Security appropriations bill would increase one-way fees for passengers from $2.50 to $5 in order to close a budget shortfall at the Transportation Security Administration.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) said the $315 million in funding would otherwise come from taxpayers and argued it is better to stick passengers who rely on TSA with the bill.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) sponsored an amendment to strip out the fee increase and offset the loss of revenue with cuts to state and local grants, emergency food and shelter funding, and dropping $89 million in funding for a new highway interchange leading to the Homeland Security’s new headquarters in southeast Washington, D.C. Hutchison noted that the Senate had decided not to increase the fees in the recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill. (which was defeated)

In a sane world, flyers wouldn’t see their fees double so that the TSA can grope flyers, including senior citizens, babies, people in wheelchairs, kids with MS on crutches, nuns, and all manners of people who in no way fit the profile of someone who plans on hijacking an airplane. In a sane world, we wouldn’t be spending $89 million for a new highway interchange so Homeland Security employees can get to work a few minutes sooner.

Remember when Democrats were against abuse of power and loss of personal liberty and privacy? Yeah, that was when Bush was president, and people were not forced to undergo enhanced screening procedures.

Scientific American: Are We Past The Hotcoldwetdry Tipping Point?

How many times have we been told that the Earth is going to pass some ecological tipping point only to see it pass without fanfare (the SA story even starts by telling us about a failed one)? Here comes yet another (via Tom Nelson)

(Scientific American) Don’t look now but we are running in midair, a new book asserts. In 2052: A Global Forecast for the Next Forty Years (Chelsea Green Publishing), Jorgen Randers of the BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, and one of the original World3 modelers, argues that the second half of the 21st century will bring us near apocalypse in the form of severe global warming. Dennis Meadows, professor emeritus of systems policy at the University of New Hampshire who headed the original M.I.T. team and revisited World3 in 1994 and 2004, has an even darker view. The 1970s program had yielded a variety of scenarios, in some of which humanity manages to control production and population to live within planetary limits (described as Limits to Growth). Meadows contends that the model’s sustainable pathways are no longer within reach because humanity has failed to act accordingly.

The title of the SA article is “Apocalypse Soon: Has Civilization Passed the Environmental Point of No Return?”, but it should probably be entitled “Someone Wants To Sell Some Books Which Kill Trees By Scaring Everyone With Junk Science About Something Which Could Happen Decades From Now.”

It’s really no wonder Warmists always try and position the dire affects of hotcoldwetdry as being way in the future: all their short term predictions fail.

Joe Biden: “Being A Plumber Doesn’t Qualify You To Be President”

How about being a community organizer who wrote a few books and started his political career off in the living room of domestic terrorists? Never having done any actual work in the private sector, never having had to lead a company, make a profit, balance a spreadsheet? Does that qualify a person?

(MSNBC) “Your job as president is to promote the common good,” he said, comparing the job of a president to that of a private equity mogul. “That doesn’t mean that private equity guys are bad guys; they’re not. But that no more qualifies you to be president than being a plumber!”

Except, the plumber might understand economics a bit more than a community agitator. But, if the president’s job is to “promote the common good”, then why has Obama saddled the US with well over $5 trillion in new debt in just over 3 years on the job? Why did he waste hundreds of billions financed by China to repay campaign contributors? Why did he waste billions on “green” companies that were bound to fail?

Biden, who spoke to a crowd of over 450 supporters and students at Keene State College, called the private-equity business itself “legitimate,” but pushed the administration’s argument that its imperative of wealth creation for investors doesn’t translate to the skill set of a national leader.

“Folks, making money for your investors, as Romney did very well, is not the president’s job,” he said. “The president has a different job.”

Going by Obama’s job performance, it would appear that the job is to play golf, take lots and lots of vacations, bow to foreign leaders, and campaign. He rarely positions himself as President Of the USA. He mostly acts as a thin skinned dictator who brooks no disagreement.

But, Biden is kinda right: nothing qualifies anyone to be the most powerful person in the world. Some, though, have a better shot at being successful because of their backgrounds. Someone who has dealt with running a big company, who understands how the economy really works, and has been responsible to hundreds, if not thousands, of people, plus has experience being the governor of a State certainly has a better chance of not be a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure than a Marxist community agitator.

Latest Poll Shows Romney Slaughtering Obama In North Carolina

Though, I don’t think I’m allowed to use the term “slaughtering” in the era of New Tone. Anyhow, this new poll shows dead, buried, and decomposing cat bounce for Obama

(WRAL) President Barack Obama and likely Republican challenger Mitt Romney are in a virtual tie for North Carolina’s 15 electoral votes in this fall’s election, according to a WRAL News poll released Tuesday.

SurveyUSA polled 524 likely voters statewide between Friday and Monday and found that 45 percent would vote for Romney and 44 percent for Obama if the election were held now. Six percent remain undecided.

A month ago, a WRAL News poll had Obama leading in North Carolina by four points, 47 to 43 percent. That poll included registered voters, however, which is a larger group than likely voters.

Right now you’re asking yourself if Teach has gone nuts terming that 1 point lead as “slaughtering”. The nuts part is debatable, but separate from this issue. Take a look at the survey link in the first paragraph. Remember, this is likely voters as opposed to registered, and a swing for Romney. Consider that Obama only enjoys 84% of Black support in the poll, an obvious resulting from many factors, including Obama’s recent “evolution” on gay marriage, though only 36% say gay marriage is an important factor. Romney beats Obama 52% to 27% among Hispanics. Romney leads in every age group but 18-34, which tends to vote less than the other groups. But, here’s where Obama is really getting slaughtered

That’s an R/D/I sampling of 29/44/24. Democrats are given a 15 point higher sample in a state Obama won by a whopping .4% in 2008, and one that saw the General Assembly taken over by Republicans in full for the first time in 110 years in 2010. For Obama to be trailing by 1% among Likely Voters with Democrats heavily over-sampled shows just how big Obama’s troubles are in NC. Granted, it’s a long time till the general election, and anything can happen, but, for a guy who wanted to hold the Democratic National Convention in NC, this is really, really bad news.

Flat Earthers Worried About Earth’s Water Cycle

(UPI) The Earth’s dry lands are getting drier and wet ones wetter as climate change shifts and accelerates the globe’s water cycle, U.S. researchers say.

Everybody panic!!!!!!1!!!!

Changing patterns of salinity in the global ocean during the past 50 years show a clear fingerprint of climate change on the shift in worldwide rainfall and evaporation, they said.

How dare the Earth change! It’s been completely static for 4.5 billion years….wait, did they say “past 50 years”?

Scientists with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California along with colleagues at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization say the Earth’s water cycle has strengthened by 4 percent 1950-2000.

It begs the question “what about from 2001-2011”? Oh, and then there is another question “what affect did the cooling that was occurring during the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s have on the water cycle?” Because there was roughly a 50 year period where the temperatures were dipping. So the study would include that cooling period. Meaning that the water cycle was affected by both cooling and warming, and still……changed. That’s just weird.

What If Occupy Gave A World Wide Demonstration And No One Came?

I was looking through my Instapaper account, searching for an old article on globull warming, and forgot that I saved this UK Guardian article from May 11th, which was a hoot. It’s in the “Comment is free” section (unless you oppose globull warming, then you get banned), written by the “International Raping Women, er, Occupy Movement”

We are living in a world controlled by forces incapable of giving freedom and dignity to the world’s population. A world where we are told “there is no alternative” to the loss of rights gained through the long, hard struggles of our ancestors, and where success is defined in opposition to the most fundamental values of humanity, such as solidarity and mutual support. Moreover, anything that does not promote competitiveness, selfishness and greed is seen as dysfunctional.

I thought those values were freedom and love. Silly me

But we have not remained silent! From Tunisia to Tahrir Square, Madrid to Reykjavik, New York to Brussels, people are rising up to denounce the status quo. Our effort states “enough!”, and has begun to push changes forward, worldwide.

This is why we are uniting once again to make our voices heard all over the world this 12 May.

How’d that work out? Did anyone even notice? Hell, I read the article and meant to write something about it on the 11th or 12th, and forgot about it.

We want another world, and such a world is possible:

1. The economy must be put to the service of people’s welfare, and to support and serve the environment, not private profit. We want a system where labour is appreciated by its social utility, not its financial or commercial profit. Therefore, we demand:

No private profit, eh? Would the Occupiers be willing to give up their money so they can no longer purchase iPods, cell phones, laptops, Tablets, fancy shoes, etc and so on, and give it all to The State? Yeah, I didn’t think so. What they want is Someone Else to give up their profit.

Anyhow, their demands are just what you would expect: free everything, paid for by Someone Else. Free healthcare, housing, education through college, childcare (wait, aren’t kids bad for globull warming?), full paid for retirement, and, gotta love this one

Apart from bread, we want roses. Everyone has the right to enjoy culture, participate in a creative and enriching leisure at the service of the progress of humankind. Therefore, we demand the progressive reduction of working hours, without reducing income.

There is just way to much to fisk in this manifesto by the (mostly ignored) International Poop On Police Cars, er, Occupy Movement. Read it all for amusement.

UK Families To See Energy Prices Skyrocket Under Green Energy Reforms

(UK Telegraph) Plans designed to help Britain “keep the lights on” while also hitting its climate change targets will be published in the Government’s long-awaited draft energy bill today.

The proposals are intended to secure investment in clean energy generation methods to avert a looming gap in supplies as a number of power stations come to the ends of their lives.

However, ministers said today that the measures are likely to mean households paying more for their energy as companies would need “incentives” to build expensive new plants.

Mr Davey, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, said it was impossible to “turn back the tide” of rising energy prices and that consumers should expect rising bills.

Davey goes on to discuss how consumer power bills would be rising anyhow, because, er, the UK government has already whacked so many existing power sources in the name of the Church Of Gore, and the loss of those energy sources means there is not enough power for the demand, causing said rise, and those energy sources are gone because of the over-whelming Warmist need to forcibly reduce the UK’s “carbon” footprint, so they need to be replaced with expensive “green” sources that barely provide power. Gotta love how that works.

Surprise! Women Being Excluded In Egypt

Who would have thought women would be relegated to the sidelines in Egypt, being made second class citizens, if you will, as the Islamists consolidate their power in?

(Washington Post) After Egyptian women stood shoulder to shoulder with men in the protests that toppled Hosni Mubarak, many looked forward to a role in the revolution’s next steps. But 15 months later, as Egyptians prepare to vote for a new president this week, rights activists complain that women are being excluded from key decisions.

“At the time of the revolution, women were needed to fill out the numbers,” said Hoda Badran, head of the Egyptian Feminist Union, which was banned under Mubarak but reinstated last year. “Now, the decision-makers don’t need women, and we’re back to this idea that femininity is inferior and masculinity superior.”

Women hold just over 2 percent of the seats in Egypt’s new parliament, down from about 12 percent in the last elections held under Mubarak. The sharp decline followed the elimination of a quota to ensure women’s representation, which had been seen by many as a way to stack the body with members of Mubarak’s political party.

After Mubarak was deposed, the ruling military did not include them in the writing of new Constitutional amendments. And

Badran and other women’s rights activists are particularly worried that the well-organized Muslim Brotherhood will use its religious and charitable groups to encourage uneducated and poor women to vote for its candidate, Mohammed Morsi. Morsi opposes women being allowed to serve in the presidency. He has called for the implementation of Islamic law and, at campaign rallies, referred to Islam’s holy book, the Koran, as the constitution.

Islamists taking over, women being treated poorly – kinda what people said would happen. Egypt has some of the best protections for women of any Islamic country, but

But the Islamist-dominated parliament is discussing several proposals that could change women’s status here. They include lowering the legal age of marriage for girls from 18 to 13 and revoking divorced mothers’ custody of their boys at age 7 and girls at 9, rather than at 15, a move that would be in accordance with a strict interpretation of Islamic law.

It’s interesting to note that none of the usual suspects are making waves about this real war on women, much like they tend to ignore how women and gays are treated in Iran.
