Everybody panic!!!!!!! The Cult Of Gore is at it again

(WNYC) Sea levels along a quarter of the East Coast, including around New York City, are rising more quickly than the global average, according to a new study. (I’ve already explained that the rise has mostly been consistent in NYC for well over a hundred years)

The study, published last week in the journal Nature Climate Change finds that sea levels are rising three to four times more quickly than average along a 620-mile stretch from central North Carolina to north of Boston.

One theory to explain the accelerated rise involves the gradual warming of the area south of Greenland, which slows down the ocean currents that run south to north along the eastern seaboard, Sallenger said. Scientists believe the slower currents change the slope of the seas, pushing up sea levels along that portion of the East Coast. More work needs to be done to test that theory.

Um, captain? The WNYC writer, Soterios Johnson forgot some other info from the Nature article

Climate warming does not force sea-level rise (SLR) at the same rate everywhere. Rather, there are spatial variations of SLR superimposed on a global average rise. These variations are forced by dynamic processes1, 2, 3, 4, arising from circulation and variations in temperature and/or salinity, and by static equilibrium processes5, arising from mass redistributions changing gravity and the Earth’s rotation and shape. These sea-level variations form unique spatial patterns, yet there are very few observations verifying predicted patterns or fingerprints6.

All those can be blamed on natural variations that have always occurred as part of the Earth’s life cycle. Consider that the Atlantic Ocean has, in scientific fact, been getting larger due to volcanic activity along the mid-Atlantic ridge that pushes the North American and Eurasian Plates further apart, ie, plate tectonics, to the tune of 1-10cm per year. The Earth is slowing down, which can change gravity and circulatory patterns. Land uplift and rebound can have an effect. Mass redistribution.

Furthermore, the article takes great pains to mostly avoid inferring anthropogenic causation (there is a tiny bit in reference to “should temperatures rise in the twenty-first century as projected, the NEH SLRD will continue to increase”), and mention aerosols from volcanoes. And

In the Holocene geologic record of an NEH marsh, the authors of ref. 28 found evidence of several rapid SLR increases separated by 900 yr or more that they associated with gyre changes.

The “gyre” is a large ocean circulatory pattern. And the article says this has happened before. Did we have cars back then? What do you think about the doomsaying article now, Captain?

Eric Holder’s DOJ: Executive Priviledge Not OK For Texas

More hypocrisy from the most transparent administration ever, which is blocking release of documents that are looking into a “botched” gunrunning operation that resulted in at least 1,400 missing weapons, at least 300 deaths of Mexican citizens, and at least two federal agents being killed

(Breitbart) The Department of Justice is asserting that the governor of Texas, as well as state legislators, have no executive or deliberative process privilege to shield documents — even as Eric Holder and President Obama assert executive and deliberative process privilege to shield documents from Congress in its investigation of Fast & Furious. That refusal has already resulted in Holder being held in contempt by the House of Representatives in a 255-to-67 vote that was joined by 17 Democratic representatives. (snip)

As if the DOJ stonewalling of Congress is not bad enough, however, Eric Holder apparently does not believe that executive privilege is either “fundamental,” as he put it, or even legitimate to the operation of state governments. His Justice Department is in litigation with the Lone Star State over its new voter ID law. After the Justice Department objected to this common-sense election reform on the erroneous claim that it is discriminatory and violates Section 5 of the Voting Rights Acts, Texas filed suit in federal district court in the District of Columbia.

In fact, the Justice Department filed motions in April and May to compel Texas to produce those documents. In one motion filed on April 25, DOJ argued that there was no “deliberative process privilege over documents in the possession, custody, or control of the Office of the Governor.” The Texas governor has a potentially stronger claim of privilege than even the one asserted by President Obama, because Obama is shielding DOJ documents and agency deliberations that do not involve his own White House communications and his own personal decisions. In other words, the very type of stronger executive privilege that would protect presidential communications is, according to Eric Holder, non-existent when it comes to the chief executive of Texas.

It gets even better, with Holder’s politicized DOJ claiming that state legislators not have the same protections that federal legislators have under the “speech or debate clause”. You should go to the any DOJ building in the country to complain….but don’t forget to bring your ID, which is required for entrance.

Oh My: White House Wants Democrats To Campaign On Obamacare

In about two weeks or so, think back to this article by The Hill when Obamacare has disappeared from mention by Democrats and the White House. They will not want to campaign on Obamacare, much like they conveniently forgot that they passed Obamacare in the runup to the historic beatdown in 2010

The White House is encouraging congressional Democrats to go on the offensive after the Supreme Court upheld the president’s signature healthcare legislation Thursday, urging members on the campaign trail to “illustrate how the President and Democrats in Congress are standing up for the middle class.”

The memo, written by White House senior adviser David Plouffe and sent to the House and Senate Democratic caucuses, says the party should be happy to debate Republicans on taxes.

Oh, yes, please, let’s have a debate over the taxes in Obamacare. We’d love to see how Democrats spin a massive tax increase on the middle class.

“After over a decade of watching the security of the middle class erode, Republicans in Congress are determined to return to the exact same policies that led to the economic crisis,” Plouffe argues. “The President refuses to settle for a country where a shrinking number of people do really well, while a growing number of Americans barely get by.”

What Plouffe is saying is that you should trade taxes for a (fictional) bit of health security. Even though most Americans already have health insurance. I suppose he thinks that it is good for people with health insurance to pay much more of their earned income to prop up a piece of legislation that is highly unpopular.

I wasn’t aware of a lack of health insurance leading to the current economic problems. That’s a new one. Though I do have to wonder if that quote was taken out of context by the Hill. It doesn’t seem to fit. But, then, Democrats do like to spew talking points that often make you wonder if you’re have the same conversation quite often.

Good Grief: Waldo Canyon Fire Is “What Climate Change Looks Like”

(People’s World) Colorado’s Waldo Canyon Fire – which has forced the evacuation of 35,000 people, destroyed 346 homes, and burned for six days at the edge of Colorado Springs – is the most destructive brushfire on record for the state. According to experts, this havoc is just the beginning of what global warming will wreak in the future.

This is what climate change looks like.

Bad News For Hotcoldwetdry: Jeep Sales Booming

(USA Today) Chrysler Group plans to add workers at the Toledo plant to build more Jeeps, and might add a third shift at the Ram truck plant.

In what’s becoming a string of good-news announcements nearly as striking as the bad-news disclosures of just three years ago, Fiat-controlled Chrysler says demand for its Wrangler is so strong it needs to hire more people to build more Jeeps.

And it’s mulling a third shift at Warren, Mich., where it builds the Ram full-size pickup. Ram’s updated for 2013.

MPG for both the Wrangler and the Ram are pretty low. Doesn’t Chrysler know that they are bad for Gaia, and could make it hotcoldwetdry through usage of evil fossil fuels? I guess bailed out Chrysler doesn’t care: they prefer actually selling vehicles that people want rather than pitiful electric cars. Speaking of electric cars

(NY Times) Electric car sales have so far ranged from disappointing to dismal. But Lee Broughton, head of corporate sustainability for Enterprise Holdings, the parent of Enterprise, National and Alamo, has an idea about how they might be improved: by enlisting an American demographic he calls the “urban eco-curious.”

In 2010 Enterprise invested in electric vehicles, buying 350 Nissan Leafs, but it found that its customers were not really interested. Consumers hesitate to rent them for the same reason that they hesitate to purchase: “range anxiety,” or worry about how far the car will go without a charge.

So, people have no interest in even renting them. For Enterprise Holdings, though, they’re stuck with a whole bunch of Leafs

Rental car companies are in a perfect position to educate consumers about the new technology, Enterprise’s chief executive, Andy Taylor, suggests. “We have the capacity to provide the perfect channel for introducing, testing and socializing new vehicle and other transportation innovations,” he said in a speech this week.

Let me know how that works out. People do not want to be lectured by a rental car company: they simply want to rent a car.

Superman has come to save the day. And Superman says “all hands on deck“. Let me give you some of the transcript to his Weekly Address so you do not have to watch it….that’s weird. If I click the link, I get a 404 error, “the page you are looking for is not found.” Kinda like Obama’s feasible policies.

(CNN) “For those of you who can provide some help, you should get on the online site of the American Red Cross,” Obama said from Colorado Springs. “They’re very active in this community and you can make your contributions there. We’re going to continue to make sure that the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Forest Service, our military and National Guard and all the resources that we have available at the federal level are brought to bear in fighting this fire.”

Where has he been the last two weeks? Michelle Malkin was asking that yesterday ahead of Champ’s visit

Did you know that President Obama has been incommunicado with Colorado’s governor for more than two weeks as the nation’s worst wildfires rage across the state? Maybe he thought we were all “doing fine.” After an embarrassing Beltway press briefing revelation about our out-of-touch White House, the administration finally decided to divert the campaigner in chief from his nationwide fundraising frenzy for a quick look-see at our devastated city on Friday. It’s “leadership from behind” you can count on.

On Wednesday, press secretary Jay Carney acknowledged that Obama hadn’t talked to Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper in 15 days. Holy smokes. The High Park fire, which has consumed nearly 90,000 acres and claimed nearly 257 homes west of Fort Collins, ignited on June 9 and is still active. During a campaign swing just last week, first lady Michelle Obama made a brief mention of the High Park fire before launching into her standard GOP-bashing stump speeches.

And let’s not forget about Obama’s gutting of the aerial tanker fleet. Interestingly, Obama avoided any mention of the healthcare ruling that occurred on Thursday. Looks like he’s already running from his own signature legislation.

Stop Fretting Over Roberts, And GOTV

Smitty makes a good point

While the analysis (over Roberts’ ruling) is worthwhile, I hope this weekend sees a shift away from fretting about Roberts and a renewed focus on getting the Court of Public Opinion arranged for the November opinion, which stands even more crucial.

As I wrote in the comments, that’s what I’ve been saying. Judicially and Constitutionally, the position of Roberts and the liberals on the Court was horrible. We know why, and we can argue it to death. But it will get us nowhere. Let’s get out there and win this election. Hold the House, see Romney win the presidency, and get at least to the 50 Senators threshold (remember, if Romney is president, a GOP VP will be the deciding vote).

Obama and the Dems damned sure didn’t want to campaign on Ocare, and didn’t, and saw a historic 2010 loss. Do you think Obama wants to campaign on taxes on the middle class? Romney and the GOP have done a darned good job in forcing issues and doing it quickly. They will attack on the Mandate tax, and the mandate has been and still is exceptionally unpopular. And they will attack on all the other taxes. It’s another front to attack on besides the economy. Though it is linked to the economy.
