Halloween cancelled due to climate change soc.li/CVWQwsF
— Richard Tol (@RichardTol) September 26, 2012
It should be noted that while Richard Tol is a Warmist, he’s not in the “alarmist” category. He hasn’t taken wacko extreme views, advocated for many of the extreme economic measures (though he does support a “carbon” tax), and was critical of the people exposed by the Climategates. He seems to be an honest scientist who does believe in man-induced warming, though he does call the impact “small”.
(Telegraph) Farmers say there will be a shortage of pumkins this Halloween as the bad summer weather means the crop is down by 20 per cent and many are still green.
Pumpkin growers in Lincolnshire are now racing against time to get the harvest finished before the frost claims more of their crop.
At David Bowman Pumpkins, near Spalding, which is Europe’s largest producer of the vegetable, around 40 per cent are still green because of the cold weather.
“It’s terrible, pumpkins don’t like the wet and cold and that’s what we’ve had all summer,” said Mr Bowman, whose farm normally produces two million a year, around three quarters of the British crop.
Sadly, Warmists have been saying that the cold rainy weather in the U.K. is because you drove a fossil fueled vehicle, releasing greenhouse gases that make the atmosphere warm.

Another breathless doom and gloom report, upset that weather happens
(Reuters) More than 100 million people will die and global economic growth will be cut by 3.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030 if the world fails to tackle climate change, a report commissioned by 20 governments said on Wednesday.
As global average temperatures rise due to greenhouse gas emissions, the effects on the planet, such as melting ice caps, extreme weather, drought and rising sea levels, will threaten populations and livelihoods, said the report conducted by humanitarian organisation DARA.
Hey, I wonder what happens when it gets cold? Like when 75 million died simply from the spread of the Black Plague at the beginning of the Little Ice Age? And the people who died of starvation because crops wouldn’t grow? And the Viking settlements wiped out because their livelihoods were too agrarian?
It calculated that five million deaths occur each year from air pollution, hunger and disease as a result of climate change and carbon-intensive economies, and that toll would likely rise to six million a year by 2030 if current patterns of fossil fuel use continue.
Except, CO2 is necessary for life on Earth. It is not a pollutant. And, more importantly, can they scientifically prove this prognostication? No, they’re projecting that all these deaths occurring now will get worse, creating a prognosticating causal relationship

An increase in CO2 is not going to cause 700k more deaths a year. Nor does a warmer atmosphere create more skin cancer. And Malaria was around well before the industrial revolution and CO2 passing 350ppm.
Anyhow, what are the solutions? Would it shock you to learn that they want governments to spend lots and lots of money to create a “low-carbon economy”? Or that the study itself was financed by governments? Follow the money.

Now, if we could only get him to talk about “dirty weather”, he could speak on Al Gore’s Current TV!
(Policymic) -The environment as a common wealth and heritage of the entire humankind and a constant guarantor of man’s survival has been seriously damaged and devastated as a result of irresponsible and excessive use of resources particularly by capitalists across the world, a situation that has caused massive drought, flood, and pollutions inflicting irreparable damage and jeopardizing seriously human life on Earth.
Any guesses who?
Meanwhile, said Warmist also met with “peace activists.“

Don’t you love how people who are big “carbon” offenders like to preach?
(The Hill) Two senior House Democrats are circulating a detailed tally of extreme weather in the U.S. and worldwide as they seek to rebuild political support for congressional action to battle global warming.
Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.) – authors of the big climate-change bill that narrowly passed the House in 2009 – released a report Tuesday about record-setting heat waves, droughts, violent storms and other costly disasters.
Bad weather only started with the invention of the combustion engine, apparently.
“While the Republican-led House of Representatives refuses to take climate action, carbon pollution is mixing a deadly cocktail of heat and extreme weather that is costing lives and billions of dollars in damages,†Markey, the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, said in a statement.
The most deadly hurricanes all occurred below 350ppm. The Dust Bowl the same. Perhaps Markey should talk to his buddies in the Democrat led Senate
Airlines for America (A4A) commended the Senate for passage of S. 1956, which would allow the Transportation Secretary to direct U.S. airlines to not participate in the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) because it violates international law and U.S. sovereignty. The EU ETS tax has faced stiff opposition from the airline industry and international governments.
“Congress has spoken – U.S. airlines should not be subjected to this illegal scheme that amounts to little more than a cash grab for the European Union as none of the funds collected are required to be used for environmental purposes,” said A4A President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio, noting that the House previously passed a similar bill.
Will Markey and Waxman vote for or against the bill?
Ever since the planned terrorist attack on our Libyan compound and diplomatic personnel “spontaneous uprising” over a stupid video which none had actually seen, per the administration, there has been much hang wringing and navel gazing over the freedoms enshrined in our 1st Amendment. It’s the usual pattern, where something happens, liberals blame someone for saying something mean, and then start wondering about whether free speech is all that it’s cracked up to be, instead of saying “I disagree with what you’re stating, but, I’ll fight to the death to defend your right to say it”. And here comes Eric Posner at Slate wondering if the US overvalues free speech
The universal response in the United States to the uproar over the anti-Muslim video is that the Muslim world will just have to get used to freedom of expression…….Muslims need to grow a thick skin, the thinking goes, as believers in the West have done over the centuries. Perhaps they will even learn what it means to live in a free society, and adopt something like the First Amendment in their own countries.
But there is another possible response. This is that Americans need to learn that the rest of the world—and not just Muslims—see no sense in the First Amendment. Even other Western nations take a more circumspect position on freedom of expression than we do, realizing that often free speech must yield to other values and the need for order. Our own history suggests that they might have a point.
King George and his governors saw no point in freedom of speech, either. And once that free speech starts being chipped away, where does it stop? What freedoms will next be targeted?
More from Q&O
You see one of the acknowledged problems with freedom is it’s messy. That’s right, people get to make choices you don’t agree with and, even more importantly, get to act on them without your permission.
And the Left, much like Salafists, don’t particularly care for any dissent.

It’s not just Muslim leaders in other countries (Via ZIp)
(PJ Media) The leadership of the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City have launched an online petition campaign for President Obama to back a bill to limit the free speech of American citizens they deem offensive.
The petition states:
The undersigned Board Of Directors and members of the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City (ISGKC) urges you to sponsor a bill that outlaws any action that may insult one’s religion. We utterly disagree with the violence that has taken place and the death of United States Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and other members of the United States embassy staff in Libya. We support the apprehension and conviction of those responsible for such acts.
Continued below the fold
We understand the First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights and, as such, prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, etc., but when the allowance of “free†speech incites violence it should be banned.Â
The film behind the violence that is occurring in part of the Muslim world, “The Innocence of Muslimsâ€, although it may be amateurish, its contents are very disturbing and insulting to the religion and has ignited an already volatile part of the world. The film is repulsive to the sensibilities of Muslims and offends the religion of Islam in multiple ways; by denigrating the seriousness of Islam, our Prophet and the Muslims in general. We believe that it would be in everyone’s interest to ban such actions from reoccurring.
Actions as such should not be tolerated as they are very offensive. The violence that has taken place as a result of this film is very alarming. As Muslims, violence of any sort is prohibited in our religion. Those people who are carrying out these acts cannot possibly call themselves devout Muslims as they are acting out of pure rage and not out of religious duties. We condemn the violence and feel that, in spite of the First Amendment of the U. S. Constitution, action may be necessary to pass such a bill or, at least, censure such actions in order to calm the current situation as well as prevent future re-occurrences.Â
Here’s the kicker
American Muslims are hard-working, law abiding, and tax paying citizens. Everyone respects freedom of speech and the First Amendment in general, however, when freedom of speech results in defaming and insulting others and provokes the killing of innocent people, it should be outlawed. In light of the recent situation, the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City hopes you may take up this cause and urge other representatives to do the same. We appreciate your time and efforts.
In other words, free speech is cool, unless it insults Islam, because many Muslims are prone to violence, therefor we should ban anything that could make violent Muslims act out in a violent manner.
At the United Nations, Islamic nations are going to use the yearly Big Meeting to push for anti-(Islamic) blasphemy laws. And the Seattle Times says that free speech is a “volatile issue” at the UN. Perhaps it’s high time that the UN be disbanded if free speech is “volatile.”
