Researchers at Purdue University realized we were facing a major e-waste problem — 3 million tons of e-waste were generated in the U.S. in 2007 alone — one that was about to get worse as people began retiring LCD flat-screen TVs and monitors made before 2009. Those models are backlighted with cold cathode fluorescent lamps or CCFLs, which contain mercury, making them hazardous to dispose of or incinerate.

Wait, wait, back up a second: what was that about containing mercury? And it being bad? Treehugger is one of the uber-enviro/warmist websites that are big supporters of CFLs, which, as we know, contain mercury. And they’re thrilled that the Central Planning Office has provided legislation that all but forces people to choose between CFLs or really expensive LED bulbs.

Though, it is a good idea to properly dispose of your used electronics.

Oops: Another Obama Supported Green Energy Company Goes Belly Up

I wonder of Gov. Romney will bring this up tonight?

(Bloomberg) A123 Systems Inc. (AONE), a maker of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for electric cars, filed for bankruptcy after failing to make a debt payment that was due yesterday.

The company listed assets of $459.8 million and debt of $376 million as of Aug. 31 in Chapter 11 documents filed today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware.

A123 is one of the big companies providing batteries for the virtually worthless Chevy Volt, of which the DOE promised $263 million for aid. Grants, not loans.

 President Barack Obama called A123 Chief Executive Officer David Vieau and then-Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm during a September 2010 event celebrating the opening of the plant in Livonia, Michigan, that the company received the U.S. grant to help build.

“This is about the birth of an entire new industry in America — an industry that’s going to be central to the next generation of cars,” Obama said in the phone call, according to a transcript provided by the White House. “When folks lift up their hoods on the cars of the future, I want them to see engines and batteries that are stamped: Made in America.”

A Chinese company was working to buy out A123 when they started going downhill.

Michelle O: Hey, Reach Out To Those Knuckleheads In Your Life, Get Them To Vote

Perhaps she should reach out to the knuckleheads who failed to follow what was going on in Libya, a country that was recently under air attack by the US military. Perhaps she should reach out to the knuckleheads who failed to bother with any security briefings and conversations with their national security team before jetting off to a campaign stop in Las Vegas the day after the US ambassador to Libya was attacked, sodomized, and killed. Perhaps she should talk to the knuckleheads who’ve failed to get our economy moving

(Politico) Speaking in Delaware, Ohio, the first lady encouraged people to cast their net wide when it comes to reminding potential supporters to vote.

“Talk to everyone you know — your friends, your neighbors, that cousin you haven’t seen in a while, that student sitting next to you in class. You know he’s kind of a knucklehead,” the first lady said. “You know the one.”

“Tap him on the shoulder. Be nice. Don’t call him a knucklehead. Not to his face. You just want to encourage him to get to the polls,” Obama said. “But tell him what’s at stake.”

And there’s your First Lady, folks. Oh-so-civil. She’s apparently been hanging out with Joe Biden too much as of late, possibly while Joe was benched after all his gaffes and absurdities on the campaign trail. And, if you don’t vote Obama back in, she probably won’t be proud of America anymore.

Simply amazing. Team Obama complains about Romney’s “47%” remark, yet, here’s the FLOTUS calling Americans knuckleheads, showing their scorn for people who refuse to vote for her husband, a complete SCOAMF.

I think we know what is at stake, the very soul of America. And she’s calling people knuckleheads. Because they haven’t gone to the polls, or because they aren’t voting for a President that makes Jimmy Carter look better.

“I want you to get everyone you know to vote by mail or vote early in person…”

Unless they’re in the military, then Team Obama and Democrats want to do all they can to make sure their votes aren’t counted.

Expect Liberals to that mentioning what Michelle said to be “racist”. Just like running an ad with the “Obama phone” lady is now considered racist.

5 Things To Watch During Tonight’s Debate

The AP helpfully provides what to watch for

1. A REBOUND? After taking a drubbing in the first debate, Obama’s under big pressure to step up his game Tuesday night. He’ll try to show energy and passion. And look for him to challenge Romney’s claims more often. Obama’s comfortable taking audience questions at campaign events, and that should work in his favor at this “town hall” style debate.

“Comfortable taking audience questions”? Well, partly, because he knows that the audience isn’t going to rebut him, and it allows him to pontificate. On the other hand, he’s still missing his telepromptor, and has a tendency to yammer on and never answer the question.

2. MAN OF THE PEOPLE? The town hall format holds risk and opportunity for Romney. (the AP positions this one as possibly being bad for Romney…..um, he’s been in this format and is well practiced at debating and taking questions.)

3. MORE CIVIL? Expect a less confrontational tone. (time will tell)

4. THE PEOPLE SPEAK: What will the voters ask? (what will he far left moderator allow them to ask, and what will she herself ask in order to help Obama?)

5. MORE THAN WORDS: They won’t be moored to a lectern or table, so this is the time to check out each man’s body language. (this isn’t about Romney, this is about Obama, considering his last debate optics. Will Obama be engaged and involved, or will he pretend to be a mannequin that has better things to do like last time?)

We know what Romney will do: he’ll be attentive, involved, engaging, and speak directly to people, including Obama. Will Obama be more forceful? Will he go for smear shots and try and fire his base up, like Biden did? Will his body language be better? Will he keep his head down or look down his nose, as he often does when speaking? Will he provide anything knew, or will it be standard talking points we’ve all heard time and again?

Politico also provides 5 things to watch for

  1. Cutting the deficit in half
  2. Closing Guantanamo
  3. Immigration reform
  4. Reining in home foreclosures
  5. Israeli-Palestinian Peace

Oh, wait, sorry, those are 5 unmet Obama promises. I’m sure we can add quite a few more to that list, like uniting the country, reigning in health insurance costs, setting a new post-partisan tone in Washington, and so many more.

Hillary Clinton Takes Full Responsibility For Benghazi

Sacrificial lamb? Under the bus? Or, someone in the Obama administration who actually is willing to take responsibility?

(CNN) Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the bucks stops with her when it comes to who is blame for a deadly assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi.

“I take responsibility” for what happened on September 11, Clinton said in an interview with CNN’s Elise Labott soon after arriving in Lima, Peru for a visit. The interview, one of a series given to U.S. television networks Monday night, were the first she has given about the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

Clinton insisted President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are not involved in security decisions, Clinton said.

Well, did anyone think that Obama or Biden, as POTUS and VPOTUS, would actually be involved with anything under their purview?

BTW, if Hillary really was taking full responsibility she’d resign right now.

Anyhow, I’m thinking…

Jennifer Rubin also has some pointed questions. Here’s two of mine I’d like answered

  1. If this was originally a spontaneous uprising, what did they think about all of the Salafist flags being shown, and then raised above our Consulate (not too mention all the flags and headbands during protests around the world)?
  2. Benghazi was considered increasingly dangerous for Westerners, plus al Qaeda was all over the place: why, exactly, was our Ambassador to Libya wandering around there with virtually no security? Hell, most Ambassadors to the USA wander around with more security in D.C.

Elon U. Student Government Votes Chick-fil-a Off Campus

The latest in “liberal tolerance”

(Fox News) A North Carolina university’s student government has voted to ban a Chick-fil-a restaurant on campus because the fast-food chain’s president is against gay marriage.

Elon University’s Student Government Association voted 35-11 to ask its food vendor to find another restaurant to take its place, the Daily Advance reports.

Now, the decision goes to the Student Government Association’s executive president, Darien Flowers, who can accept the vote or veto it.

Liberals talk a good game about tolerating all viewpoints, but, in practice, they are about as tolerant as Hitler.

Muslims Protest At UK Office Of Google, Demand Mohammed Video Be Taken Down For Free Speech

Much like liberals, Islamists are very much into “tolerance” (via Jihad Watch)

(Telegraph) Thousands of Muslims have pledged a series of protests against Google HQ for a “hateful and offensive” anti-Islam video, saying they now live in an “age of mockery”.

A protest by 10,000 Muslims outside the offices of Google in London today is just the first in an orchestrated attempt to force the company to remove an anti-Islamic film from website YouTube in Britain (snip)

Organiser Masoud Alam said: “Our next protest will be at the offices of Google and YouTube across the world. We are looking to ban this film.

“This is not freedom of expression, there is a limit for that. This insult of the Prophet will not be allowed.

“Until it is banned we will keep protesting,” he added.

Here we go

Barricades were erected in front of Google’s headquarters and a crowd bearing placards with the words “We love our prophet more than our lives” and “Prophet Muhammad is the founder of freedom of speech” had amassed by lunchtime.

As Robert Spenser points out “Who says there is no humor in Islam?”

Oh, and the protesters are saying that 1.6 billion Muslims have been terrorized by the video. Snort. Oh, BTW, below the fold is a picture from a protest in front of the US embassy in London in mid-September…

Notice all the Salafist flags, similar to the ones carried by al Qaeda and The Taliban.
