Your Flat Screen TV Is Bad For The Environment

What are we going to do with all these retired LCD TV’s? Treehugger discusses

Researchers at Purdue University realized we were facing a major e-waste problem — 3 million tons of e-waste were generated in the U.S. in 2007 alone — one that was about to get worse as people began retiring LCD flat-screen TVs and monitors made before 2009. Those models are backlighted with cold cathode fluorescent lamps or CCFLs, which contain mercury, making them hazardous to dispose of or incinerate.

“Over the next few years, it is expected that hundreds of millions of CCFL-backlighted LCDs will retire each year,……

Wait, wait, back up a second: what was that about containing mercury? And it being bad? Treehugger is one of the uber-enviro/warmist websites that are big supporters of CFLs, which, as we know, contain mercury. And they’re thrilled that the Central Planning Office has provided legislation that all but forces people to choose between CFLs or really expensive LED bulbs.

Though, it is a good idea to properly dispose of your used electronics.

It’s a governmental conspiracy by the big oil companies to dispose of their mercury waste in to our homes through government regulations and tax write-offs.

One, it is football season. I dare these aholes to even try to take one single flat screen out of the home of one of millions of Americans who watch football. Even One. I would arm myself and go defend that one. God help them if they come for mine.
And as far as disposing of them, like Teach says- of course it should be done responsibly. But what about the CFLs and I still haven’t read of their plan to dispose of the electric car batteries.
    People are such morons.

“wait wait” Teach while you are waiting please check and see what the relative amounts of mercury in each CFL which last for years and the amountr in the flat screen TVs. After you do THEN have the hissy fit

And your point is Mr. Silly?
Are you saying that it is ok to put, no… FORCE US to put Mercury and Mercury gas in to our homes?

And no, these do not last years. Yes, they may last longer than a traditional bulb IN GENERAL, but I also don’t have to take my traditional bulb to the landfill wrapped in a towel and packaged in a box marked toxic and then pay a special dumping fee. I also don’t have to clear the room should a cheaper knockoff CFL shatters, or when the transformer melts or emits toxic fumes.

Why are you ok with the government mandating that mercury be forced in to a child’s home?
