Surprise! After Raising Taxes On Millionaires In England, 2/3rds Bolt For Greener Pastures

Really, who would have thought this would happen?

(UK Telegraph) In the 2009-10 tax year, more than 16,000 people declared an annual income of more than £1 million to HM Revenue and Customs.

This number fell to just 6,000 after Gordon Brown introduced the new 50p top rate of income tax shortly before the last general election. (snip)

Far from raising funds, it actually cost the UK £7 billion in lost tax revenue.

With every action, there is some sort of reaction. In this case, those with money take it somewhere else, someplace that would appreciate the investment. Furthermore, those with money will always be able to find ways to shelter it and remove it from taxation. Instead of taxing the “rich”, why not find creative ways to get them to pump the money into the economy? You want them to spend it, you want them to invest it, you want them to create businesses. No, they don’t create businesses to create jobs, they do it to make money for themselves and investors. But, as a sidebar, they create…..jobs!

Does anyone think left leaning Hollywood creates movies to create jobs? No. They generally do it to make money. How about far left Progressive Peter Lewis, owner of Progressive Insurance? Think he’s in it to provide jobs? Nope. To make money.

And what happens when people are working? They are paying taxes. Income taxes to the state and federal governments. Sales tax. Property tax. Wealth is created. Wealth flows. If you tax the hell out of people with money, there will be less money invested, less money in business creation, and, consequently, less money coming in to the treasuries.

France, Spain Back Plan To Create “Palestinian” State, Germany Says No

Well, we already know that Spain and France are willing to surrender to terrorists and hardcore Islamists, so, we should not be surprised in the least

(The Blaze) Spain’s foreign minister says Spain will vote in favor of recognition of a Palestinian state at the U.N. General Assembly this week.

Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo told parliament Wednesday that Spain would support the Palestinian bid at the U.N., because it feels it is the best way to advance toward peace.

As TheBlaze reported on Tuesday, France became the first major European country to come out in favor of U.N. recognition, a move seen as a setback for Israel. The timing of the French move seemed to be rooted in an attempt to sway other European nations in the same direction. In Spain’s case, such a notion took root.

The resolution would turn “Palestine” from an observer to a nonmember observer state, which is a big step in moving the terrorist territories of “Palestine” into a full fledged voting member of the United Nations, an institution rife with dictators, bullies, and terrorists. The vote is to come on Thursday. Portugal and Switzerland have already stated the will vote for the “Palestinians”. Germany, on the other hand

Germany will not back a Palestinian bid for a diplomatic upgrade at the United Nations, the government spokesman said on Wednesday.

“We are assessing the situation and want as much agreement as possible with our European partners… But it is certain that Germany will not vote for such a resolution,” spokesman Steffen Seibert told a news conference.

In other words, they won’t back the bid to make a terrorist “nation” into a member of the UN. Perhaps if those in Gaza and the West Bank would stop launching suicide attacks and rockets against Israeli civilians, oh, and calling for the utter destruction of Israel and Jews, something could be done. Alas, many Progressives/liberals worldwide want the same thing.

Leadership In The Obama Era: A PR Blitz On The Fiscal Cliff

This is what you get when you elect a community organizer with no executive experience to replace the complete SCOAMF who was in office from 2009-2012

(Washington Post) The White House signaled Tuesday that it will try to marshal the momentum from President Obama’s reelection triumph into another victory at the negotiating table, launching a full-fledged public relations effort to avoid a “fiscal cliff” that could jolt the nation back toward recession.

Administration officials said Obama will hit the road this week for a campaign-style series of events with ordinary Americans, including a visit to a toy manufacturer in suburban Philadelphia on Friday. That trip and others will be aimed at increasing pressure on Congress to reach an agreement on heading off a series of automatic spending cuts and tax increases that are scheduled to begin in January.

The push comes as top Democratic and Republican leaders work to avoid a standoff on the issue, which includes debate about Obama’s insistence that tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans enacted by President George W. Bush should expire.

So, instead of talking with those who are actually negotiating the details of some sort of compromise plan (of course, with Obama, it’s typically “talking down to”) he goes into what he knows best the only mode he knows, that of the permanent campaign. He won’t be putting any ideas, other than “raise taxes, raise taxes, sqwack, Obama want a cracker” (I’m sure someone will find a way to consider that raaaaacist), on the table. In fact, I’m quite confident that he will take most entitlement spending reform off the table.

Obama’s move to mobilize his reelection apparatus for the fiscal debate signals that he intends to follow through on remarks he made during the campaign, when he suggested that major reform required public pressure from outside the Beltway.

“You can’t change Washington from the inside,” he said at a Univision forum in Miami in September. “You can only change it from the outside.”

And since Obama is incompetent except when it comes to campaigning, he’ll hit the road, which gives him a good opportunity to have some great lunches that Michelle’s food agitation program won’t allow school children to have, all while avoiding becoming involved in the hard work negotiating the details. This is leadership in the Obama era: duck responsibility, act as a community agitator, let others do the hard work, put no plan on the table.

UN Climate Chief Pretty Much Admits COP18 Going Nowhere

Tom Nelson finds this little gem at the end of this NY Times story, which I had read but missed

She said she was already preparing her closing remarks for the Doha talks.

“It’s in my head now,” she said. “I’m going to say, ‘This is another firm step in the right direction, but the path is still a long road ahead.”’

That comes from “Christiana Figueres, the Costa Rican diplomat who serves as executive secretary of the U.N. climate convention”, who already has her closing speech saying that this was a waste of time, money, and, oh, will put out approximately 25,000 tons of CO2 to tell other people to stop putting out CO2.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee Refuses To Have A Tree Lighting Ceremony

And this guy is nominally a Republican?

(WPRI) There will be no Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Smith Hill this year.

A spokeswoman for Gov. Lincoln Chafee tells Eyewitness News the tree will be on display at the State House as usual, and is in the process of being decorated. However, the governor will not be hosting a formal lighting ceremony.

Instead, local school choruses will be invited to sing at the State House in a series of concerts leading up to Christmas.

If you remember, Chafee refused to call it a Christmas tree last year, referring to it as a “holiday tree.” One of the comments is perfect

All I want to know is since they are trying to separate church from state as to not offend people, will the Governors office be closed on Christmas Day to assist the people from Rhode Island? just saying….

Good point. If people like Chafee refuse to acknowledge the reason for the season, then they should be working on Christmas, which falls on a Tuesday this year. They should refuse all holiday pay, and not get an extra day off. Nor leave work early on Christmas Eve.

Bummer: Gaia’s Fever Down For A Second Straight Year

Morning Joe: Why Are These Liberals So Darned Angry?

Simply because they’re liberals, Joe

(Daily Caller) On his Monday broadcast, MSNBC “Morning Joe” host attempted to understand a phenomenon that not only plagues his network’s primetime lineup, but apparently his Twitter account as well: Why are liberals “angry” after winning the White House again and holding on to control of the U.S. Senate?

Scarborough explained his difficulty with this question, after he was apparently exposed to it over the weekend on Twitter, where he said he was going to talk about football.

“People are crazy,” Scarborough said. “I went on the Twitter this weekend. I did. And this is what I don’t understand. John Heilemann, I’ve got the Google, too, on the Internet. I went on the Twitter just to talk football. Man that machine — can I just tell you? This is what I don’t get. Maybe you can help me because you hang out with these people while you’re in the opium dens across the greater Manhattan area. Why are liberals still so angry on the Twitter?”

Why, Joe? Because that’s who they are. Let’s make one distinction, though: these are Progressives, the far left extremists. And this goes back a long, long time, but really started to ramp up in the 1990’s with the expansion and availability of the Internet. Then along came he Clinton impeachment issue, and they went truly nuts. They were miserable people throughout the Bush years, and became more miserable when the Democrats took back the House and Senate in 2006. Things didn’t get better when Obama won in 2008, because they wanted more and more and more. Nor did it get better this past November 6.

I’ve always said that Progressives would be mad that someone gave them a cute ‘n fuzzy puppy, because such cuteness is rage inducing, and they will find a way to turn it into a negative, like point out that puppies poop and chew on things, and, oh, yeah, they are supposedly bad for “sustainability” and cause Gaia to have a fever through globull warming. These are people who get mad because something made them happy. Take one to the beach and they’d bitch about the hot sand, the consistency of sun block, the bird calls disturbing them, the water being wet and salty, will whine about the price of parking non-stop, and wonder when everyone can leave.

These are people who look at the glass as empty. And they expect Someone Else to fill out. There is no deep explanation for it, since, as Dennis Green said “they are who we thought were.” Simply miserable people.

BTW, Joe? It’s simply “Twitter”, not “the Twitter”.

White House: Social Security Should Be Off Limits In “Fiscal Cliff” Talks, But Won’t Show Their Plan

Other than raising taxes and gutting the military, is there anything Team Obama is willing to discuss? They’ve already shrieked that Obamacare is off limits, even though it is another in a long line of entitlement programs that can’t be paid for

(CBS News) It appears another issue of disagreement has surfaced in regard to the negotiations over the so-called “fiscal cliff”.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said Monday that Social Security is one entitlement program that should be addressed on a “separate track.”

“We should address the drivers of the deficit and Social Security currently is not a driver of the deficit,” Carney told reporters today. The senior retirement program is solvent for another 21 years, at which time recipients could see a reduction in benefits.

Social Security accounts for one third of federal spending, and the pool of people paying in to the program shrinks every year. Back in 1950 the ration of workers to benefit recipients was 5.1-1. In 2009 it is 3-1. It’s estimated that by 2030 it will be 2-1, but it could actually be 1-1 or even more recipients than workers. And Cox and Archer point out

As of the most recent Trustees’ report in April, the net present value of the unfunded liability of Medicare was $42.8 trillion. The comparable balance sheet liability for Social Security is $20.5 trillion.

What is on the table? Who knows, because the White House refuses to release a plan

After a reporter asked how President Obama was planning to engage in the messaging war over the “fiscal cliff,” White House Press Secretary said that he didn’t want to “ruin the fun” of fiscal cliff negotiations. …

“It would ruin the fun, if I gave you all the details now,” Carney said with a smile.

Can you imagine the media response were Tony Snow or Dana Perino to give that answer during the Bush years? Apparently Team Obama thinks this is a game. But, does anyone think they actually have a plan? Remember, this is the guy who wasn’t bothering to meet with his economic panel. The guy who commissioned a big plan (Simpson-Bowles) then immediately blew it off. Who said “the private sector is doing fine.” The guy who put his big plan on a post it note.

The GOP should counter Obama’s talking points with a real plan that would include $3 in spending cuts now for ever $1 in tax increases later, put Obama on the hook.
