Rich Paying Their Fair Share And More

Sheesh, more facts get in the way of Obama’s dependence on raising taxes on “the rich” (has he sent a check to the IRS yet?)

(The Blaze) How will households at different income levels pay federal income, payroll, corporate and estate taxes for 2013?

Despite claims that those at the top aren’t paying their “fair share,” the Tax Policy Center reports that the often-maligned “1%” will have an average income of $1.4 million, paying $514,144 in taxes. They’ll foot over 30 percent of the total bill.

The top 20 percent of Americans, meanwhile, will pay nearly 72 percent of the federal tax burden.

Said top 20% have an average income of $204,490, right in the wheelhouse of where Obama and the Donkeys want to increase the tax rate. The middle 20%, with an average income of $46,562, pays 8.6% of the federal burden (this data comes from an AP report).

Yet, Liberals will continue to call for raising taxes on “the rich”. Why? These facts have been roughly the same since those “Bush tax cuts for the rich”. PINO Obama got his tax increase on those making $400k single/$450 joint. He now wants all sorts of taxes out of removing deductions (as he calls them, loopholes, the same things he used himself on his tax returns). He wants to change the capital gains tax to nail “the rich” more. What will this accomplish?

What it looks like is that Rich Democrats have created a way to gin up anger amongst their bat guano insane base to deflect from how damaging Democrat economic policies are.

Watcha Reading?

Since last Sunday I finished Collapse (New America Book one) by Richard Stephenson. Damned good book about what the collapse of America could look like, with idiot politicians all around. Stephenson goes to great pains to avoid political labels. He also uses lots of personal stories with great characters. War with Iran, massive hurricanes, power hungry people, an America in a massive depression, gas $20 a gallon and people can’t afford it to get out of the way of a coming hurricane, so many ideas, and none of them will have you saying “nope, can’t happen.” Really looking forward to the follow up this summer.

Almost done with Darker Things (The Lockman Chronicles 1) by Rob Cornell. Another excellent read, some vampires, werewolves, ghosts, bad mojo, and excellent character development. Good interplay between a retired agent who specialized in taking down darker things, who finds out he has a 13 year old daughter.

Had started Rhubarb by MH Van Keuren, started well, but then just malaised along, never really going anywhere. Many reviewers at Amazon disagree on pacing.

When done with Darker Things, will either move on to Dark Legion, the 2nd book in the series. Or, possibly It’s not Quite Saturday Night at the Cavern.

Warmists At UK Guardian Really Upset About Climate Realist Blogs Included In Weblog Awards

Warmists, being mostly fascists, really hate the idea of opposing viewpoints being out in the public domain, and possibly winning awards

Climate sceptics ‘capture’ the Bloggies’ science category

Ever since 2001, blogs have had their own opportunity to have their moment in the spotlight and chance to bath in adulation. The Weblog Awards – or “Bloggies”, as they’re more affectionately known – start receiving nominations online each January before the organisers announce the shortlists for each category in February.

As with any online voting system, there is always scope for “gaming” the system – as well as a motivation among interest groups to do so. But, despite a glitch in 2003, the Bloggies have largely managed to avoid such controversy.

However, over the past couple of years there has been growing concern about the reliability of the “Science or Technology” category, which was first created in 2011. (Before then, it was known as “Computer and Technology”.) Is it, some ask, being gamed by climate sceptics?

Or, it could be that they’re just more popular. People like getting real information, instead of the mule fritters provided by Warmists. The Bloggies founder, Nikolai Nolan, isn’t happy about this, either

Unfortunately, I have no good solution for it, since they follow proper voting procedures and legitimate science blogs don’t want to make an effort to compete.

Got that? Bloggers who provide actual science and facts and data aren’t “legitimate”. If Warmists could shut them down, they would. We all know that the political left does not like free speech for their opponents.

Of the 17 blogs longlisted in the science or technology category, 13 (by my reckoning – italicised) were either run by climate sceptics, or popular with climate sceptics. (The situation wasn’t quite as stark in the politics category, but the weighting towards climate sceptic blogs – or blogs that are, let’s say, ideologically supportive – was still clear to see.)

And, unsurprisingly, the author, Climate Astrologer Leo Hickman, has never heard of most of the blogs. Perhaps he should expand his horizons.

And, yeah, the lefties commenting at the Guardian aren’t happy, either.

Paper Which Just Laid Off A Bunch Of Employees Hysterical Over “Austerity”

It’s nice to wake up on a Sunday morning and give a hearty chuckle followed by a good facepalm. The NY Times’ Jackie Calmes needs KCCO

The latest budget impasse ushered in a new round of austerity on Saturday, with the nation facing reduced federal services, canceled contracts, job furloughs and layoffs.

For those who live in Liberal World, let’s provide an explanation as to the Sequester: it reduces the rate of federal spending growth by a tiny percent. If a federal agency is currently budgeted for 1 billion this year, they aren’t going to get 998 million next fiscal year. They will receive slightly less than the budget increase, so, instead of 1.1 billion, they’ll get 1.0998 billion.

The progress on deficit reduction over the past two years will also probably hamper job creation and the economic recovery. Private and government forecasters project that sequestration alone will cost about 700,000 jobs this year and will shave at least a half percentage point from economic growth. The Congressional Budget Office now forecasts a falling deficit but stubbornly high unemployment in coming years.

First of all, if the people who run the federal agencies cannot deal with tiny reductions in future increases of budget allocation and maximize the money they have, perhaps they should be replaced with people who understand How To Make A Budget. Start with refusing to pay for cost overruns (this could save hundreds of billions each year).  Stop funding masters degrees for people in Indonesia (16-20 million). $500 million on a study to get 5 year olds to sit still (Gorilla glue is much cheaper). Reduce overlapping programs. Oh, and here’s $25 billion a year to maintain unused federal buildings.

Second of all, unemployment has been high throughout Obama’s terms, thanks to horrible Democrat policies which have turned a recession into a stagnation. Expect, though, Obama and the MSM to blame every job loss on Republicans not caving to Obama’s incessant demands for more taxes so he has more to spend (anyone who thinks extra tax revenue, including from the increase on those making $400K or more, will be used for debt/deficit reduction is a fool.)

Third, the NY Times has been practicing actual austerity as of late

(Reuters) On the cost-cutting side, the Times, which has repeatedly waved wads of buyout cash at its staff to reduce headcount, most recently persuading an additional 30 of its 1,100-plus journalists to leave the building permanently.

The Fish Wrap has been on a job cutting bender for years, with the latest coming at the beginning of 2013. They’ve been divesting themselves of assets (such as the Boston Globe) in order to streamline their operations. There was concern they would default on their debt, which included the silly stock buyback and building a new home office. They’ve dumped several departments, such as shutting down the Green Blog. They’re doing all they can to avoid insolvency. But, they still have a hissy fit when the federal government has a potential for layoffs.

Climate Astrology: Piranha In South Carolina

No, no, no alarmism here

(Esquire) South Carolina has a seacoast, which apparently has eluded the notice of Governor Nikki (Kelly Ayotte Stole My Place In Line!) Haley, because her administration evidently has decided that the state is uniquely immune to the Great Climate Change Hoax, which greedy scientists insist will make the oceans bigger if we don’t watch out. So, when her state’s wildlife department compiled a report on the effect that the GCCH could have on South Carolina, Haley and her minions responded to it in the time-honored free-market way. They buried the report. It did, alas, leak, and now the former chief of the state’s wildlife department is making noise about it.

What does the report say?

“From a wildlife and natural resources standpoint, climate change is definitely going to have an impact,” said Frampton, who wrote a two-page foreword to the climate report. The climate report lists potentially substantial threats to South Carolina – ranging from the invasion of exotic eels and piranha to flooding of seaside homes and destruction of ecologically valuable marshes if temperatures continue to rise.

Sadly, climate astrologers really believe this. Alas, they don’t believe in adjusting their own lives to match their rhetoric.

The DNR’s draft study says that, with temperatures in the South projected to rise up to 9 degrees over the next 70 years, the Palmetto State should prepare for increases in wildlife disease, loss of prime duck hunting habitat and the potential invasion of non-native species such as piranha and Asian swamp eels. Many such exotic species have taken hold in Florida, but as temperatures rise, could move into South Carolina, the report said.

The Real Hockey Stick Is Found

Yeah, that is the real data for the global temperature since 1980. That big spike in 1998? El Nino. (via Real Science from WoodForTrees). Meanwhile, CFACT has a billboard campaign going that shows no change in the global temperature since 1997, using HADCrut4 data.

Oh, and just to head the Warmists off at the pass, yes, the global temp is still higher than it was in 1980. That’s what happens during warm periods in the Holocene. It was still warmer in the 1930’s, and really, we’re talking about an increase of .4 Celsius, not exactly planet boiling, eh?

Oops: PINO Obama States Sequestration Is Not The Apocalypse

Yeah, remember the doom and gloom from (NMP) Obama? From his silly press conference yesterday

(NBC News) “This is not going to be an apocalypse, I think as some people have said. It’s just dumb. And it’s going to hurt. It’s going to hurt individual people, and it’s going to hurt the economy overall,” he concluded.

This was during his jedi mindmeld and “I’m not a crook, er, dictator” PC, which everyone focused on. Of course, he’s turned right around and said we’re doooooooooomed during his weekly address and did his typical blamestorming as leader of the Democrat party and PINO (POTUS In Name Only)

(The Hill) In his weekly address on Saturday, Obama said the $85 billion sequester went into effect late Friday because congressional Republicans refused to compromise.

It’s rather hard to compromise when your opponent is constantly demonizing and insulting you. It’s even harder to compromise when Obama can’t be bothered to actually have discussions with Republicans. Heck, he barely discussed it with Democrat Congressional leaders.

Obama called the spending cuts unnecessary, adding that they are only happening because “Republicans in Congress chose this outcome over closing a single wasteful tax loophole that helps reduce the deficit.”

Still, he argued, there is a “caucus of common sense.”

“And I’m going to keep reaching out to them to fix this for good.”

Meaning he’s going to continue his Blamestorming leg of his Neverending Campaign.

The rest of the weekly address is just what you’d expect: blame, castigation, “fairness”, “excess spending in our tax code”, but never mentions actually reducing the amount Los Federales spend (I was unable to use the official White House transcript, as the page comes up with 404 not found error, much like Obama’s leadership and actual plan)

(WPTV) We all agree that it’s critical to cut unnecessary spending. But we can’t just cut our way to prosperity. It hasn’t worked in the past, and it won’t work today. It could slow down our recovery. It could weaken our economy. And it could cost us jobs – now, and in the future.

We sure haven’t been able to spend our way to prosperity. And cutting and balancing sure worked during the 1990’s. Perhaps he could mention what is “unnecessary”? We should start with everything that is considered “non-essential” during a government shutdown. How about ditching the $325,000 robotic squirrel and and $445,000 for a climate change musical that was considered (shocker) boring?

Here’s Cathy McMorris Rodgers with the GOP response

(CNN) Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a Republican from Washington state, countered, “This week, the president traveled 180 miles to Newport News, Virginia, instead of traveling one and a half miles to Senator Harry Reid’s office on Capitol Hill to negotiate a replacement of smarter spending cuts.” (snip)

“We can’t let Washington continue spending money it doesn’t have, especially when it’s taking that money straight from your wallets,” McMorris Rodgers said. “The problem here isn’t a lack of taxes. … Spending is the problem, which means cutting spending is the solution. It’s that simple.”

But, that’s what the Blamestormer-in-chief wants, unlimited spending power to remake America, and damned the future generations.
