I’ve been following politics for a long, long time, well before Al Gore’s Internet became a big hit and allowed the average citizen to put their opinion out there, and for the life of me I still don’t understand the serious mental machinations that Liberals go through to come up with mule fritters like this from the anonymous editorial board
On the main Opinions page, this is positioned as “Want a safer country and stronger rule of law? Pass comprehensive immigration reform.” Because nothing says “rule of law” by legalizing people who broke the law.
Much of the country was still waking up to the mayhem and confusion outside Boston on Friday morning when Senator Charles Grassley decided to link the hunt for terrorist bombers to immigration reform.
“How can individuals evade authorities and plan such attacks on our soil?†asked Mr. Grassley, the Iowa Republican, at the beginning of a hearing on the Senate’s immigration bill. “How can we beef up security checks on people who wish to enter the U.S.?â€
What the Fish Wrap misses is that Chuck Grassley was talking about legal immigration and how to look out for crazies like the Boston Bombers, not the people who come across the borders and that the Left (and some squishy Republicans) want to create a pathway to citizenship for.
Until the bombing came along, the antis were running out of arguments. They cannot rail against “illegals,†since the bill is all about making things legal and upright, with registration, fines and fees. They cannot argue seriously that reform is bad for business: turning a shadow population of anonymous, underpaid laborers into on-the-books employees and taxpayers, with papers and workplace protections, will only help the economy grow.
Au contraire, we have plenty of arguments, but, there is absolutely no need to manufacture any more. The same ones work perfectly well. Does a mother come up with new arguments to use on a 5 year who wants cookies before dinner? No. And our arguments against giving illegals a pathway to citizenship are just as valid.
But, I am amused by the “making things legal and upright”, as if making people who broke our laws legal is peachy keen. We aren’t talking about someone who was ticketed for speeding: we’re talking about people who intentionally broke our sovereignty, who may be violent criminals, who may have stolen Social Security numbers and people’s identities, ruining those people’s lives. We’re talking about people who use and abuse our social systems, costing the taxpayer money, and have demanded that America kowtow to them with things like signs, forms and such in Spanish, providing education to their kids, free healthcare, and so forth. Yet so many do not bother to attempt to be a part of America. They do not bother learning English, but expect American’s to learn Spanish. They drive with no license or insurance and harm or kill US citizens. Is it any wonder many Americans are annoyed by illegals (obviously, all that doesn’t apply to all illegals, and many are people who have overstayed their visas).
And once they’re on a pathway to citizenship, how will it help the economy to put another 11 million or so into an already crummy Obama economy, competing for the limited pool of jobs?
There is a better way to be safer: pass an immigration bill. If terrorists, drug traffickers and gangbangers are sharp needles in the immigrant haystack, then shrink the haystack. Get 11 million people on the books. Find out who they are.
Newsflash for the Times: the bad people will not come out of the dark, and this will simply provide an incentive for more illegals to come.
And if we are serious about making America safer, why not divert some of the billions now lavished on the border to agencies fighting gangs, drugs, illegal guns and workplace abuse? Or to community policing and English-language classes, so immigrants can more readily cooperate with law enforcement? Why not make immigrants feel safer and invested in their neighborhoods, so they don’t fear and shun the police? Why not stop outsourcing immigration policing to local sheriffs who chase traffic offenders and janitors?
And boom, there you go, the Fish Wrap wants to not only legalize the illegal aliens, but open up the border, forgetting that the only way conservatives will go along with any of these schemes is to secure the borders so we do not have to deal with this again 20 years in the future. All they want is to create more Democrat voters and more people dependent on The Government.

Much like the global temperature since 1990, but this really, really upsets Warmist Jeff Spross at Joe Romm’s highly partisan and George Soros funded Climate Progress
The global effort to produce less carbon-intensive completely stalled over the last two decades, according to a new reportby the International Energy Agency. The paper put together a measure of carbon intensity — how much carbon is released per unit of energy created — and found its essentially been flat in the United States since 1990, while dropping slightly for Europe and rising for China
The combined result was that the carbon intensity of the world’s energy production dropped 6 percent from 1971 to 1990, but then flat-lined afterwards.
The headline wonders why this has happened. After some blah blah blah and noting that energy usage has double (which is apparently a big problem for the Warmists when it comes to other people, especially the people in “developing countries”, having energy) we get
Instead, thanks to our refusal to put a price on carbon, America remains the single largest subsidizer of fossil fuels in the world. Instead of doing the heavy lifting on renewables ourselves, we’re leaving the less fortunate of the world to carry the burden.
Why would we put a price on carbon? It’s not carbon that Warmists say is the problem, it’s carbon dioxide. There’s a big difference. The very fact that Warmists refuse to use proper terminology shows they care little for science and a lot for social movements.

It’s just a little one feature in the Bowdoin Orient by Hugh Ratcliffe, but amusing nonetheless
There is no longer a scientific debate concerning the existence of climate change. Despite what the National Association of Scholars may claim, anthropogenic warming is not a premise to believe in but rather a scientific fact. In the past few weeks the College has seen a frenzy of debates, panels and meetings dedicated to issues of climate change and sustainability. But what seems to be missing from the discussion is an acknowledgement of the gravity of the situation—just what it is that’s at stake.
Climate change is an unscientific term. Warmists have been attempting to shut down debate for decades. A .08C increase in global temps since 1990, and .28F since 1997. Not exactly doom worthy. Warmists are not interested in science, because science is always debatable.
Stopping climate change is not just about saving the polar bear. It’s not about hotter summer afternoons and it’s certainly not about the rise of the Prius. In a 2009 address, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that climate change “is the greatest collective challenge we face as a human family.†Unfortunately climate change is insidious, and by the time we realized it was occurring, it had already been going on for nearly a century. Yet we have already begun to feel the disastrous consequences of a warming climate all across the globe, and it is only going to get worse.
How much worse can .08C over 20+ years be? Hugh follows up with lots of things Doooooom!!!! in the future. So, what does Hugh recommend?
Sustainability and divestment may indeed be the sacrifices Bowdoin must make to play its part. As an elite institution dedicated to the common good, we don’t do nearly enough to fight against the real effects of climate change.
Ah. Divestment. The current Warmist trope where they want schools and businesses to stop all links with evil fossil fuels companies, yet, Hugh, like most Warmists, refuses to tell us what changes he’s made in his own life, nor does he recommend changes for others. Strange, that, wouldn’t you say? I bet he drinks lots of CO2 infused beer and takes road trips in fossil fueled vehicles.

(Part-Time Work Becomes Full-Time Wait for Better Job)
The American economy has generated 30 straight months of job growth. But for millions of people looking for more work and greater income, that improvement provides little solace.
In March, 7.6 million Americans who want more hours were stuck in part-time jobs, about the same as a year earlier and three million more than there were when the recession began at the end of 2007.
These almost invisible underemployed workers do not count toward the standard jobless rate of 7.6 percent. A broader measure, which includes the involuntary part-timers as well as people who want to work but have stopped looking, stands at 13.8 percent.
Let’s not forget about all the people who’ve dropped out of the jobs market in despair, sitting at levels not seen since the malaise era of Jimmy Carter.
Even for those who have been able to take advantage of the better job market, the opportunities have not been good. Since the economy began to recover almost four years ago, hiring has been concentrated in relatively low-wage service sectors, like retailing, home health care, and food preparation, and in contingent jobs at temporary-hiring companies. For example, nearly one out of every 13 jobs is at a restaurant, bar or other food-service establishment, a record high.
Remember the good old days during Bush’s presidency when the media and Bush hating liberals whined about all the jobs being “bad jobs” because many were low paying, though the unemployment rate was much lower than today and far fewer people had dropped out of the jobs market? Now we see that the Obama economy is about low paying jobs and part time jobs, despite the massive amount of money, much of it (43 cents on the dollar) borrowed by President Obama and Congressional Democrats.
While increases in part-time and temporary work can sometimes be an early sign that employers will soon take on more permanent hiring, many workers have been trapped in such jobs far longer than they had anticipated.
Not in the Obameconomy, where they are now the new norm, and this condition will get worse as Obamacare kicks in and companies scale back hours and jobs to avoid the draconian requirements (which the Times eventually points out).
But, hey, this is what you voted for, America. You thought Obama was cool and super awesome and forgot that his policies have been disasters. So, suck it up.

Hey, remember when some Conservatives were really hot to trot with Chris Christie, and really wanted him to run for President, or at least be on the ticket as VP? And some said “hey, um, he may have some good qualities for Conservatives, but, really, he’s about as squishy a Republican as it gets?” Yeah, um
(NJ 101.5) Gov. Chris Christie unveiled gun control and violence prevention measures that are as comprehensive as they are ambitious.
Christie acknowledges there is no way to prevent all violence in our society, but he says it is the job of government to question, to scrutinize and to demand more in an attempt to address the problem.
The plan calls for expanding New Jersey’s already strict gun control laws, expanding government-funded mental health treatment, making it more difficult for kids buy or rent violent video games, requiring that would-be gun owners show government-issued IDs and bolstering penalties for gun-related crimes.
“It’s hard for me to sit here today and say, ‘If all these things got imposed we’d see an ‘X’ percentage drop in gin violence in this state.’ I don’t know,†said Christie. “Bad people are going to do bad things and so, would greater penalties deter people? You hope they do.â€
So, he has no idea if anything he proposes will do a damned thing, but he’s going to push it anyhow. So, what’s he want to do?
But, refer back to the part about him not having a clue in the world if any of this would make a difference. And NJ already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country, so this is simply piling on to the draconian restrictions already placed on law abiding citizens.

Let’s be perfectly clear, Gov Cuomo was stating it’s all kinda the same, but just to bring the two up together is facepalm worthy
