You know, the kind of “climate change” which has seen a tiny uptick of .08C since 1990
Climate change leaves Chicago area in deep water
It wasn’t a hurricane, but nearly five inches of rain fell in the Chicago area Thursday.
“This is a new kind of storm associated with climate change,†said Tom LaPorte, spokesman for the Chicago Department of Water Management. “It’s been around for five or six years. Other storms are rather local, but in this case the entire region got really walled.â€
Interesting that other storms are rather local, but not in Chicago! It’s “climate change”!!!!!!1!!!! Every weather event is now blamed on “climate change”, and, to be clear, they mean Man-induced climate change. All Chicago area Warmists should immediately give up their fossil fueled travel.

The more we learn about the Gang Of 8 immigration bill, the more we find out just how flawed it is. Liberals seem to love it, which should be the first clue that when all is said and done, it will simply be an amnesty bill. Shame. They could have done something that made sense, that truly put teeth in securing the southern border, holding those who come legally first and then overstay their visas accountable, and finding ways to do what we can to make sure that people do not become illegal aliens (such as holding companies that hire them accountable with massive fines and criminal penalties and restricting public money and services from them). Alas, no. And Rubio is ruining his brand
(USA Today) Florida Sen. Marco Rubio spent about 15 minutes with conservative radio host Lars Larson on Thursday defending a sweeping immigration bill he and seven of his colleagues unveiled just hours before.
When Rubio was done, Larson’s first three callers complained that the bill would reward people who broke the law to be here, and they didn’t believe the border would be secured as the senators promise.
The interview illustrated that Rubio, a Republican and favorite of the Tea Party, will have difficulty convincing conservatives who have helped kill past attempts at immigration overhauls that the time is right to back his effort.
At this point Rubio is appearing to be more of a John McCain/Lindsay Graham Republican squish. He’s essentially on a “charm offensive” to sell this crap-burger of an immigration bill to Conservatives, a bill which is set up similar to Obamacare. Remember how far left Democrats threw in a few features that were popular, such as not being able to be denied insurance for pre-existing conditions? Yet, those were surface offerings, simply designed to make that crap-sandwich popular while the other 90% of Obamacare was horrific. Same with this Gang of 8 immigration bill.
But other Republicans said that Rubio is just what the party needs right now. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has been candid about the need to gain ground with Hispanic voters after GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney garnered only 27% of the Hispanic vote in the 2012 election.
Lionel Sosa, a San Antonio-based media consultant who advised the campaigns of the last three Republican presidents, said that with the rise of the Tea Party, it’s become more difficult in recent years to walk the line between courting Hispanic voters while appeasing the “very, very conservative elements” of the party on immigration.
If the price of “courting Hispanics” is to provide amnesty for law breakers, then the price is too high. Particularly since, from all appearances, most will be Democrat Party voters. The mechanisms for securing the border seem weak and politically charged, and what we will see is mostly a token measure. And then we get more ObamaCare styled portions. Here’s the part about getting tax money out of illegals
(Politico) They chose the milder approach and punted the details to the Treasury Department and IRS to hash out down the road.
“Getting back taxes is incredibly difficult, particularly when someone has paid into a fraudulent Social Security number,†Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), a member of the gang, told POLITICO. “You might have a case where the government owes more back than it gets in. So I don’t know. We’ll leave that up to the IRS to figure how we do it.â€
Punting on the issue puts the details in the hands of the experts, but it also means leaving a big question mark until after the bill is enacted.
This is the same thing they did with ObamaCare, namely, directing federal agencies to Do Something, leaving the details up to those agencies, rather than actually writing hard law. Which, much like ObamaCare, has created many unintended consequences and given the agencies, filled with hard left Progressives, the ability to make it up as they see fit. How much will the IRS spend to collect this money? Knowing the way the government works, they’ll probably spend more than they collect. If they bother trying.
Rubio may not be “cranky old John McCain”, but that matters little to Conservatives, who tend to look more at substance than flash. He’s putting his “compassion” for illegals over the rule of law, and if he thinks Conservatives are going to buy this legislation, he’s got another thing coming. Conservatives turned on Bush 43 when he pushed shamnesty and will do the same with Rubio.

A very fluid situation, at least regarding the 2nd suspected Boston Marathon bomber.
(UK Daily Mail) One of the Boston bombing suspects is dead and the second is on the loose and said to be ‘armed and dangerous’ after a dramatic shootout in the suburbs of the city.
The terrorist dubbed ‘Suspect 1’ by the FBI died in hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and possible blast injuries after a fierce gun battle rocked the Watertown area hours after a police officer was shot dead at the nearby MIT campus.
The other, named today as 19-year-old Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, who was seen on CCTV wearing a white baseball cap, has gone on the run.
Boston Police Chief Ed Davis said: ‘There is a terrorist on the loose who wants to kill people – do not open your door’.
Today, sources said the suspects were believed to be from the Russia region near Chechnya and had lived in U.S. for at least one year.
According to the news coverage I was viewing as I woke up, the 2nd suspect was supposedly throwing devices on the ground for which the Boston bomb squad was called out, though none seemed to have any secondary explosions one would expect from a bomb.
Right now there are quite a few officers surrounding an area in Watertown with more and more officers streaming in, so it appears as if they have him surrounded.
So, it looks like the highly partisan Left will not get their wish that the bombers were Americans, preferably on the Right. Does this have anything to do with Islamic terrorism? Possibly, as there has been quite a bit of a problems with Islamists in Chechnya for quite some time, though it was generally aimed at the local area and at Russia. Why they would do this in Boston? That’s the $25,000 question. There were jihadis from Chechnya found in Iraq and Afghanistan. Is this related? Or just two wackos?
More: the name of the second suspect is nineteen year old Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev. Everything is pretty much shut down in Boston. Schools, mass transit, you name it.
More: Law enforcement has been surrounding a home, explosions were heard, as were possible shots. Cops do not seem to be on as much edge as they were just 10 minutes ago, so, something happened. Perhaps a 3rd person of interest?
Person, not a suspect, is in police custody at the house on Norfolk St, where the brothers lived – @nbcnews

There are conflicting reports on when they came
Update: Boston bombing suspects came to U.S. with their family in 2002 or 2003
— NBC Nightly News (@nbcnightlynews) April 19, 2013
Some are still saying all came recently. Some say the family came in 2002-2003, and older brother came recently. Wouldn’t change the fact that they are not homegrown domestic bombers, but foreigners linked to a country that is 90% Muslim with lots and lots of them being radicalized.
More: Over at Grist (which, as you might know, I tend to make fun of regarding “climate change” but is still one of my favorite sites), Jesse Zimmerman has some interesting, and disturbing, pictures of an empty Boston.

Something interesting in the newest shamnesty bill
(Daily Caller) The Senate’s Gang of Eight immigration bill offers $50 million in taxpayer-funded assistance to help illegal immigrants file for the multi-stage amnesty offered by the controversial bill.
The proposed spending is intended to help illegals get “registered provisional immigration status,†which is the first stage of the legalization process.
The money can be given to activist groups to support immigrants who need help “completing applications and petitions, including providing assistance in obtaining the requisite documents and supporting evidence … applying for any waivers for which applicants and qualifying family members may be eligible,†according to Section 2106, beginning on page 131 of the complex 844-page bill.
So, a sop to far left groups to enrich their coffers as the help people who broke our immigration laws get their amnesty.
@marcorubio What say you about immigration bill giving $50 million to help illegals get their amnesty?
— WilliamTeach (@WilliamTeach) April 18, 2013
Rubio is turning into a McCain/Graham squish. Obviously this means that the left side will want him to be the next GOP presidential candidate.

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” Benjamin Franklin
Many wise men have said something similar. Alas, no one is listening
(Politico) Nearly 6 in 10 Americans say wealth is distributed unfairly in the United States, and a majority want the federal government to play Robin Hood to fix the problem, according to a poll released Thursday.
Only 33 percent of Americans think the current distribution of wealth in this country is fair, according to the Gallup Poll, while 59 percent say it is not. Fifty-two percent said the United States should redistribute wealth through heavy taxes on the rich, while 45 percent disagreed.
And this is how the Republic dies, not with agony but by wanting to steal the fruit of other people’s labor.

Doooooooooom!
Surfers would like this. But, you know, doom!
Scientists are beginning to predict how climate change will influence the height of waves.
The impact on wave height has been a neglected area of research until now.
CSIRO research scientist Mark Hemer says buoys and satellites scientists around the world have been modelling how changes in atmospheric circulation will influence sea swells.
“We see an increase in wave heights in the Southern Ocean and we see decreases in a lot of the rest of the global oceans,” he said.
Waves in the Southern Ocean could increase by half a metre over the next century.
Wait, so in lots of the rest of the global oceans they saw a decrease? It’s pretty much just the Southern Ocean that saw an increase? Could it have to do with some other factor? Well, duh, of course not, it has to be “climate change”. Meaning you driving a fossil fueled vehicle. But, this could happen!!!!!
Would you be surprised that this “research” will be included in the upcoming IPCC report, surely shown as doom? I bet they won’t include
Those aren’t scary figures.
Obviously, they will be branded heretics, personally denigrated, and said to be in the pay of Big Oil and Big Coal
(Nature World News) The government is overreacting to a largely unreal threat of global warming and NASA isn’t helping, states a report issued by The Right Climate Stuff (TCRS) research team.
Comprised largely of ex-NASA engineers and scientists, the team acknowledges in their report that “climate science is not one of our data technical specialties,” but that, nonetheless, given their experience in their separate fields of physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology and others, they felt the need to speak out.
Recently retired James Hansen never had a degree in “climate”, either.
Specifically, the report responds to what the group feels is unfounded pulpit pounding by certain NASA bureaus regarding a false damnation of global warming that is seen strictly the result of human sin in the form of carbon dioxide emissions.
“Many of us felt these alarming and premature predictions of a climate disaster with so little empirical data to support these claims, would eventually damage NASA’s reputation for excellent and objective science and engineering achievement,” the report states.
The group points out that the science is not settled in the least, that natural processes dominate the climate cycle (and are poorly understood), that CO2 lags behind temperature change by roughly 800 years, and
“Ergo, CO2 does not appear to be the throttle that controlled the temperature cycles of the last 700,000 years.” Though, they argue, the temperature appears to affect the levels of CO2 – a concept that for many may feel like standing on one’s head.
They go on to point out that Mankind does have other affects on the climate and environment through other aerosols, such as methane, along with land use (I’ve mentioned both many times in saying that Man is responsible for about 10-15 of the warming, much of which is perceived and localized). Much of what they are saying is that the changes to the climate, much of which are simply part of a natural weather pattern, are caused by unknown mechanisms which are mostly natural. The Sun. Water vapor. Land use. Shifting land patterns through geologic processes. Etc. Climate and earth forces are too dynamic to simply say “CO2 is the cause of this warm period”.
Rather, they believe, “A potential global warming issue has been identified that should be treated as a potential problem for which root cause is not definitely known.”
Is the current warming a potential problem? Sure. The same way a cool period is a problem. Same as if it became a hot period. There are also lots of benefits from all. Climate and weather will always happen, and will never conform to the flat-earth mentality of Warmists. Who still refuse to change their own behavior to match their rhetoric.
