Happy Earth Day, Which Means We Need More Gun Control. And Lunatics

OK, not really, as to the 2nd part. 3rd part? Yeah. But, I’m sure some Warmist is thinking of a way to link “climate change” with grabbing guns. However, Earth Day apparently needs to change to become more religious and, um, wait, violent, per Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite?

(Washington Post) On the 42nd Earth Day, April 22, 2012, it’s time for a change. No more flowers and beach balls that look like the earth. In Christian theological terms, it is time for righteous anger and judgment on the way in which the continued willful destruction of the planet’s ecosystem is causing widespread suffering and loss.

And what happens when Warmists, who are primarily left leaning folks, get angry? Violence. Heck, let’s be honest, they don’t really even need to be angry to get violent. So, perhaps there should be lots more gun control. For liberals.

The first Earth Day in 1970 is credited as launching the environmental movement and the idea of global warming. In 2012, the planet is in terrible trouble, and so is the environmental movement.

Uh, no. There were a few kooks who were whining about global warming, but, considering that the Earth was seeing dipping temps and by the mid-70’s people were worried about a coming ice age, um, no. It was originally about protecting the environment from real environmental dangers. Unfortunately, Warmists have taken Earth Day over and relegated those real environmental issues to B-list issues in the face of the made up hotcoldwetdry.

Anyhow, make sure to read the whole opinion piece (DO NOT drink anything, as I will not be held responsible for the damage to your Internet device), and let’s skip to the end

God is judging our sin against the planet, and She is very, very angry about it.

If anything God would be judging leftists for the wanton murder of the unborn. The Earth Day folks have made 2013 all about the “faces of climate change”. Well, if the WP article is any example, the faces are bat shit crazy.

BTW, I’d like to point out that the WP closed the comments pretty darned quick, as Ms. Susan was getting the snot knocked out of her.

More: 13 spectacularly wrong predictions from Earth Day, 1970. Makes one wonder what people 30-40 years from now will think of the Warmist predictions over the last 20 years.

Tom Freidman: Know How To Fix America Post-Boston? A Carbon Tax!

Tom should start with giving up his own mega-mansion and its giant “carbon footprint” (via Tom Nelson)

How to Put America Back Together Again

UNTIL we fully understand what turned two brothers who allegedly perpetrated the Boston Marathon bombings into murderers, it is hard to make any policy recommendation other than this: We need to redouble our efforts to make America stronger and healthier so it remains a vibrant counterexample to whatever bigoted ideology may have gripped these young men.

Bigoted? I thought we didn’t know what made them bombers, Tom? But, are you saying that Islam is a bigoted religion? My goodness, Tom!

Rebuilding our strength has to start with healing our economy…

You should tell Obama and the Democrats to resign, Tom, because their policies are disasters. But, his policy prescription comes shortly

So what to do? We need a more “radical center” — one much more willing to suggest radically new ideas to raise revenues, not the “split-the-difference-between-the-same-old-options center.” And the best place to start is with a carbon tax.

(BTW, you really, really need to read the entire facepalm worthy op-ed from Tom to understand the full effect #WarmistFAIL)

Whew! Divide Between Gun Owners And Gun Grabbers Not As Bad As Between Slave/Non-Slave States

Guess which type of state people who believe in the 2nd Amendment would be considered. The Washington Post’s editorial page editor, Fred Hiatt, discusses the Red State/Blue State schism

In the week since modest gun control died in the Senate, those of us who don’t think guns make the country safer have been inclined to blame a few cowardly senatorswhose votes could have shifted the outcome.

Unfortunately, the problem is bigger than that. Contrary to what then-Sen. Barack Obama told us in his inspiring breakout speech to the Democratic convention of 2004, there is a blue America and a red America. And the colors have been deepening over the decade since Obama spoke.

I doubt they have deepened: politics have always been a dirty nasty business, and we’ve actually seen much more violence in the past over political issues. Heck, we’ve seen formalized duels between politicians, including a sitting Vice President. It’s just that with the rise of the Internet and 24 hour cable news we see more of the partisan strife.

Fred does point out that there is more partisan strife than just with guns: also abortion, immigration and simple legislation. Then we get

The encouraging news, if there is any, is that these patterns aren’t as immutable as they were, say, with the division between slave and free states before the Civil War. Populations shift over time, attitudes change, political parties evolve. The migration of foreign-born families into the heartland, for example, may help make immigration reform more achievable than it would be if immigrants were clustered only in traditional coastal cities. And, as Third Way’s Matt Bennett pointed out to me, polls show voters often are more moderate than their politicians, even in deep blue or bright red states.

Obviously, he’s comparing Red states to slave states, forgetting that the slave states were pretty much Democrat Party states. Confederacy president Jefferson Davis was…..a Democrat. Democrats institutionalized bigotry and racism in their party platforms, as well as being pro-slavery. They created the KKK. They opposed Civil Rights legislation. Heck, they now want “slavery” to the government. The Democrat party died out quite a bit on the old Confederacy states because of their racism and bigotry, allowing the Republican Party to become the leading party.

But, you want your Constitutionally guaranteed rights (and might oppose abortion on demand and giving illegal aliens, otherwise known as people who violated our national sovereignty and laws, amnesty) you’re almost as bad as being a slave holder.

The LA Times attempts something similar in regards to a schism (without the slave/non-slave states), failing to note that the gun laws were passed on mostly party lines, in a legislature with huge Democrat majorities. Oh, and that they already have draconian gun laws, but still have gun violence. And, yes, one of the laws they were trying to pass would grab guns.

MSNBC’s Harris-Perry: Hey, The Boston Bombers Being Muslim Is Not Relevant

Yes, the same lady who thinks your kids aren’t yours, and should be fully handed over to The State

(Mediaite) Making the point that the Tsarnaev brothers’ Muslim faith at the moment bears little relevance to the investigation into the brothers’ decision to attack the Boston Marathon last week, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry observed that Tsarnaev’s faith is about as relevant to the investigation right now as are Ben Affleck movies about violent events in Boston. Her panel guests agreed and added that Americans have to “otherize” violent actors in order to absolve themselves from responsibility for or connection to their violence.

But Progressives were extremely hot to trot to paint all Conservatives with a broad brush when the bombings first happened, just like they’ve done time and time again, blaming the whole for the actions of a few or one (even when we eventually learn that the perpetrator had little to nothing to do with Conservatism, and often more to do with Left side politics). Progressives mostly seem incapable of realizing that there is a set who practice Islam that are radicalized, that are violent, that want to destroy Western culture, especially Israel, Britain, and The United States. That intentionally target civilians. They want to spread the hard-core version of Islam. This is not “Islamophobia”, it’s a plain truth. Had the two brothers been, say, Romney voters or members of the NRA or the TEA Party, we would be hearing non-stop from people like Harris-Perry about how evil Conservatives as a whole are. Perhaps we could term this “Conservaphobia”.

Now, do we know what motivated the two? Not fully. But we can certainly take some educated guesses based on the material available, which points at the two being radicalized Muslims, which those who discuss this issue refer to as “Islamists”, in order to separate them from those Muslims who aren’t raging nutjobs practicing the hard-core version. Right now there have been over 20,700 deadly terrorist attacks by these Islamists since 9/11/2001.

The Powerline guys wonder why evil makes liberals stupid, and end with

When asserting the obvious is not a respectable option, asserting gibberish becomes the option of choice for people of ordinary intellect who wish to opine. And these days, the market for such gibberish is booming.

A big question revolves around whether liberals are stupid or become stupid. Are they espousing these views because they are dogmatic idiots or because they intentionally act stupid? We saw, in the immediate aftermath, liberals talking about last Monday being tax day and Patriot’s Day, trying to make connections to people on the political Right in a manner to blame all on the Right. When it became clear that they were Muslims, and apparently the Islamist version, that there were links to other jihadis, and all the other information, liberals started forming ways to avoid linking them to Islam, and more specifically Islamists.

Whatcha Reading?

Finally finished The Twelve early in the week. Whew! Long book. Started on A Not So Singular World. Excellent premise, but the writing was so so (still more than I could have come up with, have to admit), couldn’t hold my attention past 25%. And there was no way I’d read just the 1st and not move on to the 3 followups. So, moved on to Day Soldiers by Brandon Hale (still free at Amazon Kindle store). Usually I’m not all that big on vampires or werewolves unless it’s really, really good. This was really, really good. Enough so that I finished it fast and moved on to the second one. And done with that just before I started writing this post. That’s a 272 page book and a 312 page book this week.

Now on to the 3rd book!

What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15

  1. Legal Insurrection says to add the Boston Bombers to the list of failed liberal memes

While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets” calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

Fish Wrap: Passing Comprehensive Immigration Will Increase Security And Rule Of Law

I’ve been following politics for a long, long time, well before Al Gore’s Internet became a big hit and allowed the average citizen to put their opinion out there, and for the life of me I still don’t understand the serious mental machinations that Liberals go through to come up with mule fritters like this from the anonymous editorial board

Immigration and Fear

On the main Opinions page, this is positioned as “Want a safer country and stronger rule of law? Pass comprehensive immigration reform.” Because nothing says “rule of law” by legalizing people who broke the law.

Much of the country was still waking up to the mayhem and confusion outside Boston on Friday morning when Senator Charles Grassley decided to link the hunt for terrorist bombers to immigration reform.

“How can individuals evade authorities and plan such attacks on our soil?” asked Mr. Grassley, the Iowa Republican, at the beginning of a hearing on the Senate’s immigration bill. “How can we beef up security checks on people who wish to enter the U.S.?”

What the Fish Wrap misses is that Chuck Grassley was talking about legal immigration and how to look out for crazies like the Boston Bombers, not the people who come across the borders and that the Left (and some squishy Republicans) want to create a pathway to citizenship for.

Until the bombing came along, the antis were running out of arguments. They cannot rail against “illegals,” since the bill is all about making things legal and upright, with registration, fines and fees. They cannot argue seriously that reform is bad for business: turning a shadow population of anonymous, underpaid laborers into on-the-books employees and taxpayers, with papers and workplace protections, will only help the economy grow.

Au contraire, we have plenty of arguments, but, there is absolutely no need to manufacture any more. The same ones work perfectly well. Does a mother come up with new arguments to use on a 5 year who wants cookies before dinner? No. And our arguments against giving illegals a pathway to citizenship are just as valid.

But, I am amused by the “making things legal and upright”, as if making people who broke our laws legal is peachy keen. We aren’t talking about someone who was ticketed for speeding: we’re talking about people who intentionally broke our sovereignty, who may be violent criminals, who may have stolen Social Security numbers and people’s identities, ruining those people’s lives. We’re talking about people who use and abuse our social systems, costing the taxpayer money, and have demanded that America kowtow to them with things like signs, forms and such in Spanish, providing education to their kids, free healthcare, and so forth. Yet so many do not bother to attempt to be a part of America. They do not bother learning English, but expect American’s to learn Spanish. They drive with no license or insurance and harm or kill US citizens. Is it any wonder many Americans are annoyed by illegals (obviously, all that doesn’t apply to all illegals, and many are people who have overstayed their visas).

And once they’re on a pathway to citizenship, how will it help the economy to put another 11 million or so into an already crummy Obama economy, competing for the limited pool of jobs?

There is a better way to be safer: pass an immigration bill. If terrorists, drug traffickers and gangbangers are sharp needles in the immigrant haystack, then shrink the haystack. Get 11 million people on the books. Find out who they are.

Newsflash for the Times: the bad people will not come out of the dark, and this will simply provide an incentive for more illegals to come.

And if we are serious about making America safer, why not divert some of the billions now lavished on the border to agencies fighting gangs, drugs, illegal guns and workplace abuse? Or to community policing and English-language classes, so immigrants can more readily cooperate with law enforcement? Why not make immigrants feel safer and invested in their neighborhoods, so they don’t fear and shun the police? Why not stop outsourcing immigration policing to local sheriffs who chase traffic offenders and janitors?

And boom, there you go, the Fish Wrap wants to not only legalize the illegal aliens, but open up the border, forgetting that the only way conservatives will go along with any of these schemes is to secure the borders so we do not have to deal with this again 20 years in the future. All they want is to create more Democrat voters and more people dependent on The Government.
