Happy Independence Day! An excellent day to remember what this nation was founded on. I’ve always liked the above pinup, just seems to encapsulate the holiday. There are a few more of my favorites below the fold.

And by worse, I mean worse for the disciples of the Cult Of Climate Change
(Daily Caller) When Barack Obama promised to slow the earth’s rising sea levels and heal the planet during the 2008 campaign, he probably had no idea that curbing carbon dioxide emissions might not lower the sea levels.
A study published in the Journal of Geodesy found that the sea level has only risen by 1.7 millimeters per year over the last 110 years — about 6.7 inches per century — all while carbon dioxide concentrations in the air have risen by a third, suggesting that rising carbon concentrations have not impacted the rate at which sea levels are rising.
The study used data from the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment satellite mission and analyzed “continental mass variations on a global scale, including both land-ice and land-water contributions, for 19 continental areas that exhibited significant signals†over a nine-year period from 2002 to 2011.
The results echoed a study conducted last year, which also found that sea level has been rising on average by 1.7 mm/year over the last 110 years. This was also suggested by two other studies conducted in the last decade.
“The latest results show once again that sea levels are not accelerating after all, and are merely continuing their modest rise at an unchanged rate,†said Pierre Gosselin, who runs the climate skeptic blog NoTricksZone. “The more alarmist sea level rise rates some have claimed recently stem from the use of statistical tricks and the very selective use of data. Fortunately, these fudged alarmist rates do not agree with real-life observations. Overall the latest computed rates show that there is absolutely nothing to be alarmed about.â€
Well, that’s just a fastball to the groin, wouldn’t you say, Warmists?
Of course, Warmists will say “see? We were right. The sea level is going up!” Yes, yes it is. Alas, what this confirms is that global sea level rise is pretty much within the statistical norm. What does that mean? Essentially, over the last 7,000-8,000 years the sea rise has been estimated to be an average of 6-8 inches per century. The reason that time frame is used is due to the effects of the ending of the last glacial age leveling off. From around 20k years ago, the sea rose roughly up to 140 meters (459 feet) in roughly 13,000 years, heading into the Holocene.

Now, think back to math class: how does one arrive at an average? We take a bunch of numbers, add them together, and divide by the number of data points. What this means is that during the past 7-8K years, there have been times where sea rise has been much higher warm periods), and times where much lower, perhaps even negative (cool periods). Yet, this warm period is simply average regarding sea rise.
Of course, what Warmists will tell us … if they even acknowledge the study… is that maybe it’s at the lower edge of average now, but in the future, dooooooom! And then they’ll jump in their fossil fueled SUVs to run errands.
PS: Just to be perfectly clear, the Earth is currently in a warm period, which could last for another couple hundred years, but, once again, we see that it is primarily natural, not driven by CO2.
What is it about July 4th that brings out the worst in Liberals? For a party that says they are “progressive” and future looking, they sure seem to focus on all the bad that has occurred, and whine and whine and whine. The Washington Post features not one, not two, but three negative pieces (in fairness, they have a few positive pieces, but why bother with the negative on this day?). First, here’s the Editorial Board whining about the Declaration of Independence
“WE HOLD THESE truths to be sacred and undeniable,†Thomas Jefferson wrote in his first draft of the Declaration of Independence (the composition of which was regarded as something of a minor administrative chore, as noted by the historian Joseph Ellis). He showed the draft to John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, who suggested “self-evident†instead — perhaps a polite way of saying to the British crown: “as any fool can plainly see.†Although Jefferson (uncharacteristically) accepted the change without complaint, the “truths†that all men are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights were not self-evident to everyone, even in the American colonies, where a sizable part of the population was loyal to Great Britain and a great many more simply wanted the revolutionary turmoil to end so things could get back to normal.
The obvious contradiction of the Declaration’s fine sentiments — the institution of slavery — had to be swept under the rug in 1776 lest southerners withdraw from the fragile and sometimes fractious coalition that was forming behind the idea of independence….
Here’s E.J. Dionne Jr calling for Marxism
Last week, the Aspen Institute gathered a politically diverse group of Americans under the banner of the “Franklin Project,†named after Ben, to declare a commitment to offering every American between the ages of 18 and 28 a chance to give a year of service to the country. The opportunities would include service in our armed forces but also time spent educating our fellow citizens, bringing them health care and preventive services, working with the least advantaged among us, and conserving our environment.
Yes, he does mean the military, in terms of Lefties joining in order to liberalize the institution. Add in the far left service stuff. And here’s the kicker: The American Revolution Was a Flop
The easiest way of assessing whether the United States would have been better off without its revolution is to look at those English-speaking countries that rejected the American Revolution and retained the monarchy, particularly Canada, which experienced an influx of American refugees after the British defeat. The U.S. performance should also be assessed against the ideals the new country set for itself — namely, advancing life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Lot’s of whines about slavery, which the writer, a Canadian, acknowledges was defeated during the Civil War. Complaints about citizens being incarcerated (no mention that liberal justice system policies makes this worse). Whines about this, whines about that.
Which brings us to the related matter of the revolution’s long-term impact on politics. While the Canadian, Australian and British governments have shown they can get things done, including passing tough austerity budgets in recent years, the norm in Washington has become paralyzing partisanship and gridlock.
In these senses, the American Revolution was a flop. Perhaps it’s time for Americans to accept that their revolution was a failure and renounce it. (For their part, many Russians have.)
I’ll resist the notion to smack this Canuck around while insulting Canada: it’s not Canada’s fault that the WP published this drivel for Independence Day.
Many other papers have pulled the same thing, negative articles and op-eds. Kudos to the NY Times for avoiding this (except for one linking slavery to the American Revolution.) Here’s their Editorial Board
There is something self-evident about the Fourth of July. We know its origin and its meaning. Its iconography is straightforward, even if the text behind it — the Declaration — is complex. It retains a simplicity that resembles no other major holiday. It celebrates a vital principle, but it is lacking in rites and ritual. We set aside the day, which seems to include a bit of everything — family, patriotism, parades, and simply doing nothing. Yet you could say its significance can be found in the doings of any ordinary American day — something that’s all too easy to forget until July Fourth comes along as a reminder.
I’m going to avoid what the loonies at the Left wing blogs say, however, if you want the most loony tunes piece, here you go
That’s why I’ll do no flag waving or banner display. I’ll recite no Pledges of Allegiance, nor stand for the Star Spangled Banner. Patriotic speeches and other jingoistic claptrap will draw no applause from me.
There’s so much loony (in some cases, wrapped around real issues) in the piece that I couldn’t even figure out what to excerpt, so I simply went with the the above. Whines about Vietnam, complaints about America in 3rd world countries, drones, rendition, Dick Cheney, Bush, the 2000 Election, and so much more (but never mentions Obama by name) from Mike Rivage-Seul, who is a liberation theologian (read: far far left moonbat), who, really, just put into words what so many Liberals think. Yet, he’s still here living in the United States, a country he seems to hate. Much like other Lefties, who never seem to leave the country they despise.

When I first saw this article at both WRAL and the Raleigh News and Observer, I was really hoping that there would be a Memeorandum thread, with a whole bunch of liberals freaking out over what are common sense restrictions. I got the first, but not the second. From the N&O
A bill restricting abortions that popped up in the state Senate without public notice Tuesday evening and received swift approval would force clinics to meet expensive license requirements and make it more difficult for doctors to perform the procedures.
Hmm, license requirements for what are medical procedures? Scary!
Under the bill, which was tacked onto another measure dealing with Islamic law, abortion clinics would have to meet license standards similar to those of ambulatory surgical centers. According to legislative staff, only one clinic in the state currently meets that standard. The state’s four Planned Parenthood clinics don’t meet it. The bill would also require doctors to be present when women take drugs that induce abortions.
One would think that the liberal abortionistas would want to make sure women are protected while having a medical procedure. Just the tone of the N&O story tells me that’s not the case.
Democrats said Republican arguments about safety were a sham, and the real incentive is to restrict abortions.
“This is really about limiting women’s rights,†said Sen. Angela Bryant, a Rocky Mount Democrat.
Over half the article is about Democrat whining over the proposed legislation and being “outraged”, which requires one more vote in the Senate before heading to the House. But, what does it all do? To the WRAL article, which lists a few of the provisions
Added to this is the licensing provision previously mentioned. Do any of those provisions actually restrict abortion on demand? Or do they simply make sure that the procedures are safer and that women are protected? As one of the comments at WRAL notes “There should not be any objections to these practical requirements… unless the health and safety of the mother is not really important.” The N&O commenters, mostly far lefties, barely mention the abortion issues, and instead focus on the main idea of the bill, noting that foreign laws, like Sharia law, will not be applied in North Carolina.
The Raw Story, another good reliable moonbat site says the bill would force all but one infanticide, er, abortion clinic to close. First, why do liberals hate women so much that they do not want the clinics to be safe? 2nd, is anyone surprised that none of the states’ four Planned Parenthood offices would meet the licensing guidelines? Liberals want lemonade stands licensed, but not abortion clinics.
Buzzfeed has copies of the bills.
What we see here as that, except for a small minority of Democrats, such as Kirstin Powers, Democrats will not except any common sense solutions to abortion whatsoever. They yammer on about “common sense gun laws” and try and pass those, even though there are already lots and lots and lots of laws about guns, yet, allowing health care providers to refuse to perform an abortion? Heresy!
As a sidebar, an Ohio right to life group trolls the heck out of a few Ohio Democrats who voted for abortion restrictions.
More: here we go, more unhinged abortion on demanders chime in.

It would probably be uncharitable to note that other groups, such as liberals, progressives, Atheists, Democrats, along with (NMP) Obama, tend to be absent
(NJ.com) “It can get pretty emotional,” said Hudgins, 43. “We just want people to know that we love them and didn’t forget about them.”
Hudgins arrived in the Garden State last week as part of an army of out-of-state volunteers who are being dispatched to New Jersey this summer by Mission Discovery, a Christian organization that organizes relief missions for children and adults.
And what they’re finding is that Sandy’s destruction goes beyond the images of homes chewed up by storm surges. Sandy’s devastation, they said, can also be found in once-flooded basements that still have not been cleaned and in homeowners who are struggling to move on.
“It’s not just the physical destruction – it’s the emotional destruction,†said 18-year-old Tommy Treser, who just graduated high school. “That’s what surprised me.â€
They are trying to focus on the emotional fallout, along with the physical fallout, of Superstorm Sandy. Kudos to Mission Discovery.
