Kathmandu, Rip Curl owner slumps to huge full-year loss

The parent company of Kathmandu and Rip Curl has posted a shock $93.6 million statutory loss ($82.9 million US) – its worst in at least a decade.

KMD Brands said when excluding a $45.5 million non-cash writedown of its Oboz footwear business and other items, it still lost $28.3 million on an underlying basis for the year to July 31.

KMD said it was once again not paying shareholders a dividend, as it hasn’t since 2023, and was taking steps to carefully manage capital.

KMD announced earlier this month it was closing 21 stores, mostly outside Australia, out of its global portfolio of 328 company-owned Kathmandu and Rip Curl shops.

As for its individual businesses, its Rip Curl surf lifestyle brand made $30.6 million in underlying earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amorisation (EBIDTA), down 27% from last year, while its Kathmandu outdoor store chain posted a $1.3 million EBITDA loss after a $16 million profit in 2023/24.

Surfers know who women and men are, and with the ever growing number of women surfing, they can go with O’Neil, Body Glove, Billabong, Quicksilver, and so many other brands for surf apparel, wetsuits, boards, and more. Too bad, because Rip Curl has an awesome line. Their surfing wetsuits fit best, have room in the shoulders. Did Rip Curl think women would be appreciative of replacing Bethany with what is clearly a man in a dress with fake boobs?

With the store closures there are also supposed to be a lot of layoffs.

With “R.I.P. RipCurl” trending this week, there are two questions we should be asking.

First, when will big corporates learn that “go woke, go broke” is real?

Second, when will discrimination against women and girls end?

Thanks to the actions of Rip Curl over the past five days, the once iconic Australian surf brand is living proof that women are finally fighting back against companies using transgender women to promote products for women and girls.(snip)

Late last year Rip Curl dropped their popular brand ambassador and living embodiment of resilience and strength, surfer Bethany Hamilton, because she does not believe transgender women should be allowed to compete against women at the sport’s highest level.

And men shouldn’t. There are certain moves that are much harder for women to make due to core and leg strength, not too mention men having stronger shoulders and back muscles, easier to catch waves. So, women just stopped buying Rip Curl. And men stopped buying Rip Curl, because surfers like real women.

It seems, however, that Rip Curl like so many other big corporates (it was purchased by Kathmandu for $350 million in 2019) decided inclusion was more important than biological female role models for women and girls.

And that is one hell of a good point: you have a good, upstanding, responsible female role model for girls wanting to get into surfing, and you replace her with a guy with mental illness (who has been photo’d wearing a hijab, too boot). Which one is a better role model?

NY Times: US Isolation On Display During UN Climate Week Or Something

Weirdly, the Paper Of Record forgot to mention all the long fossil fueled trip, mostly on private jets, world leaders took to NYC

At Global Climate Summit This Week, U.S. Isolation Was on Full Display

At a climate summit at the United Nations on Wednesday, the vast majority of the world’s nations gathered to make their newest pledges to reduce planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade.

Geopolitical heavyweights including China, Russia, Japan and Germany were there. Dozens of small island states were there. The world’s poorest countries, including Chad and the Central African Republic, were there. Venezuela, Syria, Iran — there, too.

The United States was not.

There are few issues on which the United States is more diplomatically isolated from the rest of the world than climate change. President Trump’s hostility to renewable energy, which he clearly broadcast in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, is at odds with the rapid construction of wind farms, solar arrays and other renewable energy sources in a range of countries. The construction boom includes even oil-producing giants like Saudi Arabia, which is adding solar capacity at a rapid clip.

Do we care? Does Trump care? If the other nations want to mortgage their future on this scam, have at it. If the Elites in other countries want to use this to initiate authoritarianism, real, that’s on them. None of those Elites at the UN nor their staffs are practicing what they preach.

At Wednesday’s climate summit, 121 countries were scheduled to deliver a message very different from Mr. Trump’s, pledging to rein in global emissions not only for the sake of trying to slow catastrophic global warming but because renewables are getting cheaper faster than was previously thought. In some cases, renewables now produce electricity more affordably than plants that burn fossil fuels, bolstering the argument made by some countries that solar and wind can help with economic growth while providing energy security by limiting reliance on imports of fuels like coal, oil or gas.

Can they start by making their leaders take trains and sailing ships back to their home companies?

Trump Offers 21 Point Gaza Peace Plan At UN

The typical political thing to do when you see a problem is to talk about the need to fix it, go on the news stations and talk about fixing it, say you might offer legislation, you have a committee looking at it, and, if you re-elect that person they’ll get it done. Now, love Trump or hate him, when he sees a problem he doesn’t put together committees, he doesn’t yammer about working on fixing it, he just works to fix it.

Trump administration presented Gaza peace plan to Arab leaders

The Trump administration proposed a 21-point peace plan to end the war in Gaza to Arab leaders on Tuesday, which led to an exchange of ideas among the leaders over how to agree on a final proposal that could potentially drive an end the conflict, according to a senior administration official and regional sources familiar with the matter.

On Wednesday US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff expressed confidence that there would be “some sort of breakthrough” in the coming day but did not go into details.

“We had a very productive session,” Witkoff said of the meeting between President Donald Trump and the US delegation and the Arab leaders.

“We presented what we call the Trump 21-point plan for peace in the Mideast, in Gaza,” Witkoff said at the Concordia summit in New York.

“I think it addresses Israeli concerns, as well as the concerns of all the neighbors in the region,” Witkoff added. “And we’re hopeful, and I might say even confident, that in the coming days, we’ll be able to announce some sort of breakthrough.”

The plan that the US proposed included a number of points that the administration has made publicly, including the release of all hostages and a permanent ceasefire, according to a separate source briefed on the matter. It also outlined a framework for how Gaza can be governed without Hamas and included a proposal for Israel gradually withdrawing from the Gaza strip, the source said.

In all the time while Biden was president what did he do? Yammer and give aid to the people supporting the terrorists who started all this. Trump wants it ended. Other world leaders are recognizing Palestine, making things harder.

But, of course, now we wait to see if this plan gets any traction.

Anti-ICE Left Wing Loon Kills Several Illegals In Dallas

Who was Joshua Jahn, shooter in deadly Dallas ICE facility attack?

Sources familiar with the investigation into the Dallas immigration facility shooting identified Wednesday’s alleged attacker as Joshua Jahn, 29.

The gunman killed two detainees and injured another after opening fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility from a nearby building before taking his own life, police say. The detainee who survived was hospitalized in critical condition.

Jahn fired “indiscriminately” at the ICE building, as well as at a van in the sally port where the victims were shot, the Department of Homeland Security said. The three detainees were in an unmarked transport van when they were shot, before Jahn took his own life around 7 a.m., according to the sources. He was found dead with a rifle on a nearby rooftop, authorities said.

A photo posted on X by FBI Director Kash Patel showed what appeared to be rifle-caliber ammunition affixed to a clip. The rounds were engraved with an “anti-ICE” message.

Vice President JD Vance called for an end to “obsessive attacks” on law enforcement, particularly ICE.

“These horrendous killings must serve as a wake-up call to the far left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X, while chiding elected officials who demonize immigration authorities.

There are already leftards saying this was a false flag. And others calling for gun control, even though the rifle would not have been an assault rifle, not with an actual clip of rounds.

Kimmel Returns, Hosts Climahypocrite Gavin Newsom

If Disney were smart, they’d tell Kimmel to return to the original idea of the show being a mindless late night entertainment show: actors and actresses talking about their new movies and TV shows, comedians, musicians, people with animals. No politicians. But, no, he’s still doing politicians. Maybe Disney is just trying to ride it out till Kimmel’s contract expires in May 2026, at which point they will cancel the show?

Gavin Newsom gets the full Colbert treatment

Comedian Stephen Colbert joked Tuesday night that Gavin Newsom has drawn a lot of attention lately for doing something novel for a Democrat: “being interesting” — and he was only too happy to take the praise.

It went like that for the duration of the governor’s appearance on “The Late Show” — where he enjoyed a friendly interview that let him hit on his favorite topics as his popularity surges. (snip)

He has distinguished himself from other Democrats in recent months — and infuriated Republicans — by embracing a combative and often mocking approach to the Trump administration, which his team has begun skewering with social media parodies.

“This guy is flooding the zone, dominating the narratives. Facts don’t seem to matter, and Democrats, frankly, have had a difficult time pushing back,” Newsom told Colbert after the host asked why he thought his message was breaking through.

No on is infuriated: everyone is laughing at Newsom’s coms team trying to mimic Trump. Get your own schtick

Newsom added, “Democrats feel … that there’s sort of this weakness that dominates our brand and our party. I think what people appreciate is that we are willing to fight. And not only fight symbolically, by having a little bit of fun, but fight substantively. We have 41 lawsuits against the son of a bitch.”

Yes, suing to keep illegal alien criminals in the country

Newsom used the national platform to warn about what he called “authoritarian actions by an authoritarian government” and to reiterate his prediction that Trump does not want another election (besides “a Putin-type election”) while touting Democrats’ support for international climate agreements, vaccine access and opposition to mass deportations. Newsom, who’s in New York for Climate Week, argued that he’s succeeded in getting under the GOP’s skin lately because Trump and other conservative figures, such as Fox News’ Sean Hannity, can’t handle when he “put a mirror up” to the president’s behavior.

Obviously, Kimmel did not ask if Gavin took Amtrak to NYC, because we all know he took a fossil fueled private jet. As far as authoritarian, if Trump was one Newsom would be disappeared after saying it. After his coms team got nasty. After all the things Gavin has said.

And then people wonder why no one watches Kimmel (and other late night shows): it’s too heavily political.

“Day-Zero Droughts” Coming Soon Or Something

Where ‘day-zero droughts’ could happen as soon as this decade

Many parts of the world are predicted to endure “day-zero droughts,” periods of extreme and unprecedented water scarcity, which could happen as soon as this decade in certain hotspots including parts of North America, the Mediterranean and southern Africa, according to a new study.

It’s well known that climate change, driven by burning fossil fuels, is throwing the global water cycle off balance and causing scarcity. What’s much less clear is when and where extreme water shortages will hit. The new research helps provide answers and some of them are surprising, said Christian Franzke, a climate scientist at Pusan National University in South Korea and an author of the study published Tuesday in Nature Communications.

The scientists used a large number of climate models to assess the timing and likelihood of day-zero droughts. These are “unprecedented water scarcity events, events which haven’t occurred so far,” Franzke said. It’s when “you turn on your water tap and no water comes out,” he told CNN.

Day-zero droughts arise from the confluence of various factors, including a prolonged dearth of rain, low river levels and shrunken reservoirs, as well as rocketing water demand to supply people, farms and industries.

Computer models, LOL. They tell the doomsday scientists whatever they want. Anyhow, what happens if this doesn’t happen? Who loses their job, pension, and reputation?

More than a third of these regions, including the western United States, could face this situation as early as the 2020s or 2030s. The finding that day-zero droughts could happen so soon, at current levels of global warming, was “something that surprised us,” Franzke said, even though a few cities have already come perilously close.

Oh, right, no one will remember this particular bit of scaremongering, it’s meant for now, to freak people out and get politicians to pass laws. But, I think people are mostly done being scared. I’ve always watched a ton of horror movies since I was young and read horror books. There’s little that scares me anymore.

Good News: 2 Million Illegals Gone In 250 Days

Trump’s immigration crackdown: 2 million illegal immigrants gone in just 250 days

The Department of Homeland Security celebrated on Tuesday that two million illegal immigrants have either self-deported or have been deported since the start of the Trump administration.

“The numbers don’t lie: 2 million illegal aliens have been removed or self-deported in just 250 days— proving that President Trump’s policies and Secretary Noem’s leadership are working and making American communities safe,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “Ramped-up immigration enforcement targeting the worst of the worst is removing more and more criminal illegal aliens off our streets every day and is sending a clear message to anyone else in this country illegally: Self-deport or we will arrest and deport you.”

Amid President Donald Trump’s heightened efforts in supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s mission, which includes increasing the agency’s budget by $75 billion through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, ICE is on track to shatter its record by deporting nearly 600,000 illegals by the end of the year. So far, ICE has successfully deported 400,000 illegal immigrations. Meanwhile, 1.6 million illegals have voluntary left the country. Since May, the Trump administration has offered illegal immigrants that decide to self-deport a free flight as well as $1,000. It is uncertain how many illegal migrants have taken the Trump administration up on its offer.

I was told that the only thing that could be done was pass a law that would have shut *wink wink* the border down when daily encounters exceeded 4,000 a day. Those claiming asylum would be quickly given work permits. Denials would take years to adjudicate. And then give amnesty and stuff with a promise that border security would be ramped up. Meanwhile, Trump comes in and puts people in place who have policies that simply shut illegal immigration down and caused illegals to get out. It tells them “don’t come”.

And DHS said “it’s just getting started” as it intends to recruit more ICE agents thanks to funding from Trump’s “one big beautiful bill.” While offering $50,000 sign-on bonuses and other recruitment bonuses, ICE has received more than 150,000 applications in the past couple of weeks. ICE has also signed more than 1,000 286(g) agreements, which gives local and state enforcement officers the tools and authority to perform specified immigration officer functions.

Keep it going. They say there are around 11 million in the US. Most likely the number is well over 20 million.

At UN, Trump Calls ‘Climate Change’ “Greates Con-Job Ever Perpetuated”

Trump calls climate change policy ‘greatest con-job ever perpetrated’, faults it for West’s decline

President Trump argued Tuesday that policies meant to mitigate the effect of climate change are all just a bunch of hot air, calling them “the greatest con-job ever perpetrated” in scathing remarks to the United Nations General Assembly.

“You know, it used to be global cooling. If you look back in the 1920s and 1930s, they said global cooling will kill the world,” Trump riffed during his wide-ranging speech. “Then they said global warming will kill the world.”

“Now they can just call it climate change, because that way they can’t miss,” he vented. “Climate change — because if it goes higher or lower, whatever the hell happens, is climate change.

“It’s the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world.”

Trump went on to argue that ominous predictions about the Earth’s temperature rising to dangerous levels due to fossil fuel emissions have been wildly overstated.

“All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people that have cost their countries fortunes,” Trump groused without naming specific examples.

Too bad Trump didn’t point out that all the Elites attending the UN yearly conference all took fossil fueled flights to the U.S., and a goodly chunk took private flights, not even commercial. Then they took fossil fueled limos/SUVs to the UN. Would have been great if Trump had a slide show of all the climate cult believers getting off the planes and out of the vehicles.

“I’ve been right about everything, and I’m telling you that if you don’t get away from the green energy scam, your country is going to fail,” Trump crowed at another point. “I’m the president of the United States, but I worry about Europe.”

“The carbon footprint is a hoax made up by people with evil intentions, and they’re heading down a path of total destruction.”

The whole thing is about control of the peasants. It’s all authoritarian politics, and the peasants have been breainwashed to give away their money and freedom to government. And, for those who realize this, the Elites do not care. You will comply.
