Obama Discusses “Affordable” Care Act And “Far Right Republicans” In Weekly Address

Continuing with his normal use of the resources of the White House, owned by The People of the USA, for hyper-partisan campaign style speeches, (NMP) Obama loves him some “Affordable” Care Act for Other People, and whines at Republicans (video here, if you can stomach it) in his Weekly Address

Hi, everybody Democrat voters (WT-had to fix that).  This Tuesday is an important day for families, businesses, and our economy.

It’s the day a big part of the Affordable Care Act kicks in, and tens of millions of Americans will finally have the same chance to buy quality, affordable health care as everyone else.

If “affordable” means “seeing your premiums skyrocket“, well, yeah. If it means 30 million left without insurance, sure, OK, Sparky. If it means people being dumped from their company policies and seeing America turned into a part-timer economy, yup.

It’s also the day that a group of far-right Republicans in Congress might choose to shut down the government and potentially damage the economy just because they don’t like this law.

Say what you will about George W. Bush, he was never this hyper-partisan or derogatory towards his opponents (perhaps he should have been, at least now and then, but that’s a different discussion). Obama never acts as POTUS, but as President Of Those Who Vote Democrat.

If you’re one of the vast majority of Americans who already have health care, you already have new benefits you didn’t before, like free mammograms and contraceptive care with no copay, and discounts on prescription medicine for seniors.  You’ve already got new protections in place too, like no more lifetime limits on your care, no more discriminating against children with preexisting conditions like asthma, or being able to stay on your parents’ plan until you turn 26.

Problem is, those are masking issues (except for the contraception thing, which is pandering to those who don’t feel like spending a few bucks a month for protection as they have irresponsible, casual sex), things that are popular, designed to be the honey masking the taste of nasty medicine. Or, if you like, some nice chipolte ranch, tomatoes, and a pretzel bun on a s**t-burger.

I will work with anyone who wants to have a serious conservation about our economic future.  But I will not negotiate over Congress’ responsibility to pay the bills it has already racked up.  I don’t know how to be more clear about this: no one gets to threaten the full faith and credit of the United States of America just to extract ideological concessions.  No one gets to hurt our economy and millions of innocent people just because there are a couple laws you don’t like.  It hasn’t been done in the past, and we’re not going to start doing it now.

He’ll work with the President Of Iran, but not Republicans. He’s added over $6.5 trillion to the debt. Yet, he blames Republicans in Congress for his prolificant spending during the years Dems controlled Congress. Where’s his own budget? It is consistently late, and so horrible that even the Democrat controlled Senate won’t vote for it.

IPCC Hedges Bets On Warming Pause For Lifetimes

A whole generation has not known any statistically significant warming. Could more generations be without? (via Junk Science)

(Reuters) The IPCC reiterated that a warming trend is “unequivocal”, and some effects would last far beyond the lifetimes of people now alive, such as heat penetrating ever deeper into the oceans.

In other words, the oceans ate their warming, which is very convenient (but doesn’t explain why this didn’t happen during the previous spikes during the Modern Warm Period), and they aren’t quite sure if the current pause will last for several decades (such as the late 40’s through the late 70’s) or longer, but they need a way to Blame Mankind in order to get some of that sweet sweet taxpayer money.

BTW, Ace notes that the NY Times finally realizes that taking Michael Mann’s tree ring based “hockey stick” was a mistake.

Bummer: People Hate Envirowackos And Feminists

(Salon) Why don’t people behave in more environmentally friendly ways? New research presents one uncomfortable answer: They don’t want to be associated with environmentalists.

That’s the conclusion of troubling new research from Canada, which similarly finds support for feminist goals is hampered by a dislike of feminists.

Sadly, the envirowackos cause all legit environmentalists to be lumped together. And despised.

In one (study), the participants—228 Americans recruited via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk—described both varieties of activists in “overwhelmingly negative” terms. The most frequently mentioned traits describing “typical feminists” included “man-hating” and “unhygienic;” for “typical environmentalists,” they included “tree-hugger” and “hippie.”

Not all environmentalists are hippies and tree-huggers. I’m not. I like clean air, water, and land. I like trees. The wackos cause a negative stereotype of all.

The results of three additional studies suggested this aversion to perceived stereotypical behavior impacts people’s behavior. In one of them, 140 Americans (again recruited via Mechanical Turk) read an article about climate change and “the need for individuals to adopt sustainable lifestyles.”

“Climate change” is not about the environment, and these wackos have further eroded belief in environmentalism. Thanks, wackos!

Rand Paul: If Elected Democrats Don’t Want Obamacare For Themselves, Why Should You?

Writing in the Washington Times, Rand Paul makes the point that Democrats tend to not want the “Affordable” Care Act for themselves

Earlier this week, in an effort led by Sen. Ted Cruz, some of my Republican colleagues and I took to the Senate floor with the intent of making Washington listen. The American people have made it abundantly clear that they do not want Obamacare. In fact, a majority of elected officials, the same officials that voted to implement this health care mandate, do not want it, either.

Last summer, in a 5-4 decision authored by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., the Supreme Court wrongly concluded that Obamacare’s individual mandate could stand. As a consequence of the court’s ruling, starting on Oct. 1, whether they want it or not, Americans will be compelled to purchase a government-mandated product — health insurance — or pay a tax.

What should infuriate you the most is the fact that the same elected officials who implemented this mandate have recently declared themselves exempt from it. That is to say, these officials are forcing you to partake in something that they themselves are refusing. If Obamacare is so great, why then are federal employees and elected officials getting special treatment and opting out?

If President Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Harry Reid and Chief Justice Roberts love Obamacare so much, they should live under it. Their actions speak louder than words, and it is erroneous for these leaders to even attempt to claim that Obamacare is a step forward for Americans.

Senator Paul goes on to describe many of the negative outcomes that have so-far occurred thanks to the “Affordable” Care Act. The layoffs, the dropping of coverage, moving employees to under 30 hours a week, the extremely weak jobs market, and so on.

I have a proposal. I have offered an amendment that would outlaw any special exemptions for government employees. This amendment requires all federal workers to purchase health insurance from the new Obamacare exchanges, instead of receiving taxpayer-funded subsidies.

I am also introducing a more broad constitutional amendment, which states that Congress shall make no law that treats citizens differently from the elites in the federal government.

He wants to remind lawmakers that they are not above the American citizenry. You can bet that the amendment will be shot down by the Democrat controlled Senate, if it even makes it out of committee. As to the Constitutional amendment, which I mentioned the other day, he should first bring it up in the Senate, and find a fellow Republican to bring it up in the House. This would require a 2/3 vote in favor in both, and we know Democrats will not vote for it. This would be good politics.

Then, he can attempt to get the States to call for a Constitutional Convention. With 27 controlled by Republicans, he would need 33. Would Democrat legislatures approve of having the Convention? It would then require three fourths of the States to ratify. 38 states. With 17 controlled by Dems, that would be tough. It would depend heavily on what the people in the States want. And there might be enough, even amongst Democrats, to push for Washington to have to submit to the same laws they pass for the citizens.

Hooray! IPCC Says It Is “Extremely Likely” Warming Is Caused By Your Use Of Fossil Fueled Vehicles

The last IPCC report, AR4, stated that it was “very likely” that they were full of bat guano, er, that Mankind was at fault for the tiny bit of warming (mentioned in the AP report) since the Little Ice Age, now…

(USA Today) Global warming is “unequivocal” and it is “extremely likely” that humans are the primary contributors to this warming, according to a report released Friday morning in Stockholm by the U.N.-created Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the world’s top climate research group.

“Human influence has been detected in warming of the atmosphere and the ocean, in changes in the global water cycle, in reductions in snow and ice, in global mean sea level rise, and in changes in some climate extremes,” the report says.

I’ll agree that Mankind has some small influence, perhaps 10-15%, mostly from agriculture, landfills, land use, and the Urban Heat Island Effect, but, sea rise is well within the norm of the average for the last 7,000 years (this is when the monster sea rise from the end of the last glacial age slowed down), meaning that this is a light warm period. It has not accelerated. As for the rest, no big deal, either. It’s what is expected during a warm period.

The report says that it is now more certain than ever that “human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming” since the 1950s.

Which is funny, considering that the 1950’s through late 1970’s was a period of cooling. Remember the articles wondering if the earth was heading towards a new ice age? Perhaps the IPCC could explain the extreme warmth of the 1930’s? And rising temps post Little Ice Age?

The report says that “each of the last three decades has been successively warmer at the Earth’s surface than any preceding decade since 1850” and that in “the Northern Hemisphere, 1983–2012, was likely the warmest 30-year period of the last 1400 years.”

Well, duh. That’s what happens when a warm period follows a cold period. Does. Not. Prove. Causation.

As for the supposed “pause” in global warming since 1998, the report says that this may be due to changing climate models and that a fuller understanding of this pattern requires further study.

So, it’s now caused by faulty computer models? Seriously? That’s the tactic they’re taking? Oh, and that they don’t know what’s going on? What makes them think they know for the rest?

This all comes from the summery for policymakers, and prognosticates a temperature rise by 0.3 to 4.8 degrees C by the end of the century unless Government puts in massive controls on your life with lots of taxes and all the other things they’ve been pushing. That’s 0.5-8.6 F. That’s one whopping difference in prognostication, wouldn’t you say? Unless you’re forced to give up your fossil fueled lifestyle, we’re all going to burn and be flooded and live in drought and see more snow and ice and experience more earthquakes and volcanoes. Doom! Now watch the Warmists fly off in droves in fossil fueled vehicles for a nice working vacation in Poland for this year’s IPCC COP19.

Bummer: We’re Wired Not To Believe In Hotcoldwetdry

I don’t know about you, but I need some solid proof to not only believe in something, but to take action. Hey, I believe we’re probably not alone in the universe, but, unlike “climate change”, I haven’t seen gobs and oodles of evidence against that Belief, unlike anthropogenic global warming

(UK Guardian) And that something else has a lot to do with the way we are wired as humans. We often prefer denial to confronting our problems, inescapable as they may be. We often shirk from responsibility for our share of the mess and hope that others will do the clean-up. We have an immoral tendency to weasel out when we feel that the bill will be footed by distant strangers or future generations. And we are loth to accept as true something that might jeopardise our cherished way of life. Therefore, some of us are more than willing to listen to charlatans telling us what we like to hear, for example that climate change is a hoax and that we should think positively and all will be well.

Were it not man-made, it would be tempting to say that climate change is a problem from hell. It has all the characteristics of a problem that cannot be solved and perhaps not even managed. But some people are simply not willing to give up the fight. The stakes are too high for that, and while the belief in the transformative power of knowledge may be heroic we don’t have anything better. The climate scientists at the IPCC cannot be praised enough for holding on against all odds.

Obama To Speak At Community College About ACA To Folks Who Will Have No Job Prospects

Thanks in part to the “Affordable Care Act”, all these youths will wait in long lines to get substandard health care from a limited amount of doctors. Oh, and will be lucky to get a low paying part time job in the fast food industry, thanks to Obama policies, including the ACA

(Patch) President Obama will cross the District line into Maryland Thursday to urge young people to sign up for the Affordable Care Act just days before parts of it go into effect, according to the White House.

Obama will appear at Prince George’s Community College in Largo to talk about the program known as Obamacare as conservative members of Congress take steps on Capitol Hill to try to defund the plan.

Yet another campaign style speech. How will these youths afford to pay even the fine if they have no jobs post-graduation?
