It’s wonderful. A month after the yearly UN Conference on the Parties climate scam fest, where tens of thousands of True Believers took long fossil fueled trips to complain about Other People using fossil fuels, there will be another climate scam conference in Paris. This is actually in what is supposed to be the straight news section of Time magazine
50 World Leaders Will Discuss Climate Change in Paris. Donald Trump Wasn’t Invited
Foreign policy experts on both sides of the aisle predicted that President Trump’s decision to take the U.S. out of the world’s most significant agreement to fight climate change would leave the U.S. isolated on the issue.
Now they have one of their first examples of that argument.
Less than a year since Trump announced withdrawal from the Paris climate deal, a group of 50 world leaders — ranging from Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to British Prime Minister Theresa May — will gather in Paris this week for an invitation-only climate change summit hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. Trump was not invited.
Checking Trump’s twitter, I don’t think he cares. It would be funny if he called out these 50 world leaders for their hypocrisy in using fossil fuels and having huge carbon footprints.
Macron’s two-day climate change conference, officially billed as the One Planet Summit, will focus on how to finance both the global transition away from fossil fuels and measures needed to adapt to changes already underway caused by global warming. While world leaders from across the globe have reiterated their commitment to the Paris Agreement since Trump’s withdrawal announcement in June, ensuring adequate finance for climate related projects has remained difficult.
In other words, it’s about how Government can force you little peons to pay for the beliefs of the leaders while they live the high life.

CNN, in between doing stupid stories, and having their reporters focus on the stupid, decides to run something interesting and deep, noting that Democrats have a tough choice on DACA
With just two weeks until Congress is expected to leave town, the fate of roughly 700,000 young immigrants still hangs in the balance.
And, it could be up to Senate Democrats now to decide whether they will make protections for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program recipients a condition of their support for a must-pass spending bill or punt the issue to next year when they still have months to work it out.
There’s a whole host of issues that must be dealt with by the end of the year including reauthorizing a spying program, funding disaster relief and paying for the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which has all sparked questions about whether Democrats will insist DACA also be included in that list of year-end spending priorities.
Republican leaders have thrown cold water on the idea that a DACA deal could get attached to a year-end spending package, leading to questions about whether Democrats — under pressure from their base — would shut down the government over a program that doesn’t begin to expire fully until March. Activists and some Democratic members point out that the must-pass spending deadline could be the party’s best opportunity to exert pressure on Republicans who don’t want a government shutdown to occur when they control all levers of government.
In other words, will Democrats jam up the works, and even force a government shutdown, over protection of illegal aliens over the legal citizens and residents of the United States?
Many of the more extreme Democrats are more than willing to go this route, and they are really taking over the party from the oldsters like Pelosi. And they want a clean DACA bill, meaning that it gives everything to Dreamers, and does nothing on border security, sanctuary cities, judges to process deportees, and so forth. But, will they take the side of the illegals to gum needed legislation up over U.S. citizens? I guess we’ll see.
I’m not going to give you an early graphic that will give you an idea here as to what is going on with this Washington Post op-ed by Michael Gerson. Is it about ‘climate change’? Illegal immigration? Islamist jihad? Subjects that typically interest me, so, what could it be?
It’s America’s turn to ‘fight on the beaches’
The Winston Churchill biopic “Darkest Hour†is a movie that should be seen, but not entirely believed. Gary Oldman’s alternately fierce and vulnerable Churchill is a triumph of both acting and the cosmetician’s art. Just hearing him deliver snippets of Churchill’s speeches is worth the ticket price. (Am I the only one who tears up at the words “We shall fight on the beachesâ€? My wife: “Probably.â€)
But the central conceit of the film — that a deflated, defeated Churchill required bucking up by average Brits — is fiction. Very nearly the opposite was true. The policy of appeasement was broadly popular in Britain during the early to mid-1930s. In 1938, a majority supported Neville Chamberlain’s deal at Munich (which ceded much of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany in return for . . . nothing). It is more accurate to say that Churchill summoned British courage and defiance by his intense idealization of British character. He saw heroic traits in his countrymen that even they, for a time, could not see. (snip)
But on June 3, even as British troops were being evacuated at Dunkirk, Churchill’s private secretary Jock Colville wrote in his diary: “Winston is tired of our always being on the defensive and is contemplating raids on the enemy. ‘How wonderful it would be,’ he writes to [Gen. Hastings] Ismay, ‘if the Germans could be made to wonder where they were going to be struck next instead of forcing us to try to wall in the Island and roof it over.’†In the midst of catastrophe, Churchill was dreaming of Normandy (and North Africa and Italy). Not the thoughts of a defeated man.
Obviously, Gerson is quite taken with the movie, and Winston Churchill. He mentions that the future freedom of England was down to Dunkirk raid, and things would certainly have been much darker had Churchill lost his nerve, and “we learn the power of unreasonable optimism…” So, of course, we then get to the real point of this piece
Many of us view this example, not only with appreciation, but with longing. The problem of our time is not only arrogance without accomplishment or swagger without success. These are common enough in politics. Rather, it is the arrival of leadership that survives by feeding resentment, hatred and disorienting flux. Leadership urging us — at angry rallies, in ethnic stereotyping, through religious bigotry — to forget who we really are as a people. Leadership that has ceased to believe in the miracle at our country’s heart — the inclusive, unifying power of American ideals.
But the moment is not permanent. Many are looking for a place to invest their hope. And some leader, we trust, will rise who calls his countrymen to choose decency and civic friendship above the destructive pleasures of hatred and blame. Who can see and summon the best in American character, even if, for the moment, it is hidden.
In the meantime, we shall fight on the beaches.
While not named, you can certainly easily extrapolate that this is All About Trump, in a derangement syndrome fashion. He might not be named, but it is rather transparent. And typical of the unhinged #Resistance nutters. Let’s make it more specific: Gerson is putting Trump in the place of the Nazis, for which some leader needs to rise to take him on.

It’s always something with these people. It’s always a new tax or fee or something that limits personal choice and freedom. Funny how that works out, eh?
(UK Guardian) ‘Sin taxes’ to reverse the rapid global growth in meat eating are likely in five to 10 years, according to a report for investors managing over $4tn.
The global livestock industry causes 15% of all global greenhouse gas emissions and meat consumption is rising around the world, but dangerous climate change cannot be avoided unless this is radically curbed. Furthermore, many people already eat far too much meat, seriously damaging their health and incurring huge costs. Livestock also drive other problems, such as water pollution and antibiotic resistance.
A new analysis from investor network Farm Animal Investment Risk and Return (Fairr) Initiative argues that meat is therefore now following the same path as tobacco, carbon emissions and sugar towards a sin tax, a levy on harmful products to cut consumption. Meat taxes have already been discussed in parliaments in Germany, Denmark and Sweden, the analysis points out, and China’s government cut its recommended maximum meat consumption by 45% in 2016.
“If policymakers are to cover the true cost of human epidemics like obesity, diabetes and cancer, and livestock epidemics like avian flu, while also tackling the twin challenges of climate change and antibiotic resistance, then a shift from subsidisation to taxation of the meat industry looks inevitable,†said Jeremy Coller, found of Fairr and chief investment officer at private equity firm Coller Capital. “Far-sighted investors should plan ahead for this day.â€
I searched for a Gordon Ramsey gif where he’s saying “oh fuck off”, more apropos, but, no luck.

Thank goodness that Bill DeBlasio is so concerned with climate change and horse drawn carriages
(NY Post)Â An ISIS-inspired suicide bomber set off a homemade explosive device at the Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station Monday morning, law enforcement sources said.
The man — a 27-year-old who lived in Brooklyn and is possibly of Bangladeshi origin — had wires attached to him and a 5-inch metal pipe bomb and battery pack strapped to his midsection as he walked through the Manhattan transit hub, sources said.
The man partially detonated the device, which he was carrying under the right side of his jacket, prematurely inside the passageway to the A, C and E trains at Eighth Avenue and West 42nd Street around 7:40 a.m., sources said.
Police took the man into custody.
Thankfully, only two others received minor injuries. It was NYPD Bill Bratton who stated that the person was ISIS inspired.

In all fairness to DeBlasio, crime in NYC has taken a dip. The suspect has been identified as Akayed Ullah. He reportedly had a second explosive device, and it’s believed that the station was not the target, at least not where the bomb went off. Ullah is currently housed at Bellvue Hospital, and is reported to be in bad shape.

The Cult of Climastrology long agon made the polar bear, a massive animal that has no problem killing other animals and humans, the face of climate change doom. They’re having apoplexy over one in particular, and, among the news fables on it, this is possibly the nuttiest
Video of starving polar bear fuels fears of climate-linked extinction
Studies warn that polar bears could be extinct by 2050.
The world’s tragedies often have images that end up defining them: A 5-year old screaming in Iraq after her parents were killed by U.S. soldiers. A starving child being stalked by a vulture during a ruthless famine in Sudan.
A video released this week of an extremely emaciated polar bear has served a similar purpose: as a rallying cry and stand-in for a largely unmitigated environmental disaster.
The video was shot by Paul Nicklen, a nature photographer and contributor to the National Geographic magazine for the last 17 years. He is also a biologist by training and the co-founder of Sea Legacy, a nonprofit that uses storytelling and images to advocate for the environment.
Nicklen’s video, which he shot on a trip for Sea Legacy, depicts an emaciated polar bear, its coat patchy, seemingly near death on an island in a Canadian territory inside the Arctic Circle. It searches for food in a rusted garbage can and chews what Nicklen said was an old snowmobile seat.
Nicklen told National Geographic “We stood there crying – filming with tears rolling down our cheeks.†Here’s what it looked like
Heart-breaking video of a starving polar bear on iceless land shows how #ClimateChange is destroying #wildlife pic.twitter.com/1vXzMVK6mP
— World Wildlife Day (@WildlifeDay) December 10, 2017
Really, it’s no surprise that the Cult of Climastrology would take this one polar bear and run with it to the extreme. It’s what they do. They’ve made these predictions many times, and then populations of polar bears grew too big to actually sustain, and have fallen off.
The hysteria was so bad that even uber-Warmists (and nice guy) Eric Holthaus chimed in
Important fact check from a wildlife biologist on those horrible starving polar bear images we've all seen. This is why it's important to get the facts and science right first in any climate communication. (And why PB's aren't great messengers) https://t.co/NLwh7iqctc
— Eric Holthaus (@EricHolthaus) December 10, 2017
You can read the whole thread Eric links at Twitchy. Jeff Higdon suspects that it is a different problem, most likely cancers which go through populations. And the population the PB is from is considered stable. And “What the Sea Legacy crew should have done was contact the GN Conservation Officer in the nearest community and had this bear put down. And necropsied. The narrative of the story might have turned out quite different if they had.”
Cristina Mittermeier, co-founder of SeaLegacy, told CBC Radio why they filmed the incident and released the video
“While Mittermeier said the bear had no obvious injuries and she believes it was too young to die of old age, she contends that’s irrelevant. ‘The point is that it was starving, and …as we lose sea ice in the Arctic, polar bears will starve.’â€
In other words, it was a prop. Animals get sick. That’s nature. Fabius Maximus points out
But if sea ice loss due to man-made global warming had been the culprit, this bear would not have been the only one starving: the landscape would have been littered with carcasses. This was one bear dying a gruesome death as happens in the wild all the time (there is no suggestion that a necropsy was done to determine cause of death, just as with Stirling’s bear that supposedly died of climate change.)
In fact, research done by polar bear specialists that work in the field shows that the most common natural cause of death for polar bears is starvation, resulting from one cause or another (too young, too old, injured, sick). From Amstrup in Wild Mammals of North America: Biology, Management, and Conservation
…
Warmists keep trotting out a tiny number of polar bears starving as PROOF!!!!! of global warming doom. It’s interesting that they throw Darwinism out the window in order to push their cult.

The Editorial Board of the Washington Post takes yet another stab at protecting those who are unlawfully present in the United States who aren’t committing crimes, except for low level ones, and actually ends up proving that Trump’s tough talk and action on illegal immigration is working when we compare the story to headline
Trump’s deportation tough talk hurts law-abiding immigrants
DESPITE PRESIDENT TRUMP’S tough talk about deporting millions of “bad hombres,†the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants in the United States have no criminal record. That poses a quandary for deportation agents who, prodded by the administration to get tough, have intensified the pace at which they round up not just criminal undocumented immigrants, but law-abiding ones as well.
Of roughly 143,000 unauthorized immigrants living in the United States who were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30 — a 30 percent increase over the previous year — more than a quarter had no criminal convictions. As for those who had been convicted, most were guilty of non-violent charges including drug, traffic and immigration offenses such as re-entering the country after deportation.
Which is exactly what those working for immigration agencies wanted to do, because it’s their job to enforce federal immigration as passed by the federal legislature and signed by the Chief Executive. I bet the same members of the Editorial Board would be pretty darned upset if someone was pinching their food from the breakroom fridge, and calling for heads to roll. Oh, and re-entering the U.S. after deportation is a felony.
Many Americans may feel little compunction about ferreting out illegal immigrants with criminal records, but what of the tens of thousands convicted of no crime or never even arrested for one? Remember: Most unauthorized immigrants (excepting those arrested at the border) have been living in the United States for at least 15 years, and large numbers have spouses, children and other relatives who are citizens.
I’m good with it. It’s not my fault. I feel no remorse. If you can’t do the time, do not do the crime. They all knew what they were doing when they came illegally/overstayed their visa, and knew that they could be arrested and deported at any time after. And they had plenty of time to attempt to become a legal citizen any time along the way. This is on them.
Here’s where it gets fun
What’s more significant is the apparent decline in attempted illegal border crossings, as measured by Border Patrol apprehensions, which, at 310,000 in fiscal 2017, hit a 46-year low. Fewer apprehensions mean fewer illegal crossing attempts. That’s a good thing, reflecting, most recently, Mr. Trump’s campaign rhetoric, as well as the continuation of a long-term decline since 2000, when apprehensions exceeded 1.6 million. During that period, economic conditions have improved inside Mexico and the Border Patrol has doubled its number of agents.
Sooooooooooo, it looks like Trump’s tough talk on illegal immigration is working? Huh. How about that?
Trump’s tough talk on law abiding illegals can’t hurt them, because, by definition, they are not law abiding. It’s always cute when Democrats try and come up with an argument in defense of illegals and attempt to go Trump Derangement Syndrome, and whiff on both.
