If only there was something Warmists could do, like giving up their own use of fossil fuels and making their lives carbon neutral. Anyhow, for something so groundbreaking and historic, it sure seems as if it was worthless, and vindicates Trump for (sorta) pulling the U.S. out
The Paris Climate Accords Are Looking More and More Like Fantasy
Remember Paris? It was not even two years ago that the celebrated climate accords were signed — defining two degrees of global warming as a must-meet target and rallying all the world’s nations to meet it — and the returns are already dispiritingly grim.
This week, the International Energy Agency announced that carbon emissions grew 1.7 percent in 2017, after an ambiguous couple of years optimists hoped represented a leveling off, or peak; instead, we’re climbing again. Even before the new spike, not a single major industrial nation was on track to fulfill the commitments it made in the Paris treaty. To keep the planet under two degrees of warming — a level that was, not all that long ago, defined as the threshold of climate catastrophe — all signatory nations have to match or better those commitments. There are 195 signatories, of which only the following are considered even “in range†of their Paris targets: Morocco, Gambia, Bhutan, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, India, and the Philippines. This puts Donald Trump’s commitment to withdraw from the treaty in a useful perspective; in fact, his spite may ultimately prove perversely productive, since the evacuation of American leadership on climate seems to have mobilized China, eager to claim the mantle and far more consequential to the future of the planet because of its size and relative poverty, to adopt a much more aggressive posture toward climate. Of course those renewed Chinese commitments are, at this point, just rhetorical, too.
Much like with the Kyoto Protocol, which was long on words and celebrations and almost none of the signaturies achieved their goals.
How not good? Another new paper sketches in horrifying detail what this failure would mean, though its findings are smuggled in under cover of rhetorical optimism. In the new issue of Nature Climate Change, a team lead by Drew Shindell tried to quantify the suffering that would be avoided if the planet were kept below 1.5 degrees of warming, rather than two degrees — in other words, how much additional suffering would result from that additional half-degree of warming. Their answer: 150 million more people would die from air pollution alone in a two-degree-warmer world than in a 1.5-degree-warmer one.
Numbers that large can be hard to grasp, but 150 million is the equivalent of 25 Holocausts. It is five times the size of the death toll of the Great Leap Forward — the largest non-military death toll humanity has ever produced. It is three times the greatest death toll of any kind: World War II. The paper’s math is speculative, of course, and there will surely be those who take issue with its methodology. But it also looks at deaths solely from air pollution — not from heat waves, drought, agricultural failure, pandemic disease, hurricanes and extreme weather, climate conflict, and more. And the paper reaches that figure, 150 million, only for a world that is two degrees warmer, when everything we are seeing now tells us that two degrees, always an optimistic target, is becoming more and more of a long shot.
These people. Always ramping up the scaremongering, yet, strangely, taking no action in their own lives. Replacing an incandescent lightbulb with a CFL or LED doesn’t count.

The NY Times has given retired Supreme Court justice John Paul Stephens, a Nixon appointee who turned more and more left as his time went on, a platform to make the argument, and they even provide a cute graphic showing a musket and a scary looking assault rifle!
John Paul Stevens: Repeal the Second Amendment
Rarely in my lifetime have I seen the type of civic engagement school children and their supporters demonstrated in Washington and other major cities throughout the country this past Saturday. These demonstrations demand our respect. They reveal the broad public support for legislation to minimize the risk of mass killings of school children and others in our society.
That support is a clear sign to lawmakers to enact legislation prohibiting civilian ownership of semiautomatic weapons, increasing the minimum age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 years old, and establishing more comprehensive background checks on all purchasers of firearms. But the demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform. They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment.
So, because people have Feelings, and support banning all private ownership of semiautomatic weapons….wait, they were telling us that it is just “assault weapons” they want to ban. Now it’s all semi-autos? Huh…we should repeal the 2nd? Rather a far jump.
Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.†Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.
For over 200 years after the adoption of the Second Amendment, it was uniformly understood as not placing any limit on either federal or state authority to enact gun control legislation. In 1939 the Supreme Court unanimously held that Congress could prohibit the possession of a sawed-off shotgun because that weapon had no reasonable relation to the preservation or efficiency of a “well regulated militia.â€
Law abiding citizens aren’t against reasonable restrictions: even the NRA is for them. Or, at least were, until Leftists made it quite clear that their intention was to nickle and dime gun ownership to the point were almost no law abiding civilians could own, possess, and carry a firearm, all while being soft on criminals who wouldn’t follow the laws. And an op-ed like this makes it even more clear that the Left’s idea is to disarm all law abiding citizens, removing their ability to protect themselves from criminals and tyrannical government.
In 2008, the Supreme Court overturned Chief Justice Burger’s and others’ long-settled understanding of the Second Amendment’s limited reach by ruling, in District of Columbia v. Heller, that there was an individual right to bear arms. I was among the four dissenters.
That decision — which I remain convinced was wrong and certainly was debatable — has provided the N.R.A. with a propaganda weapon of immense power. Overturning that decision via a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Second Amendment would be simple and would do more to weaken the N.R.A.’s ability to stymie legislative debate and block constructive gun control legislation than any other available option.
Go for it. Give it a shot. I think all Democrats should trot out the repeal of the 2nd as a major campaign theme. Let’s see how far that gets you.
BTW, I bet these leftist bed wetters would get Very Upset if we all openly walked around carrying muskets and pistols from that era.

There’s no doubt that R. Daryl Fisher, a candidate for Buncombe County sheriff, and a Democrat, has a lot of experience as a law enforcement officer. But, then there’s this
https://twitter.com/RealRedElephant/status/977667911811719169
Any weapon that is designed for use by the military I think we should ban. You’ve heard people say you have to pry my gun from my cold dead hands. (shrugs) OK.
Video also available at Pacific Pundit.
He’s attempted to counter this with two posts, here and here, the latter being the big one, and has even told people discussing this in the Facebook comments to watch the whole video.
The video he ended up removing from his Facebook page. So brave!
And, in the latter one, we find this typical “oh, shit, I got caught” line
If you want to know what my statements were, listen to all of the videos in their entirety. There is one statement that many up to now have taken offense to. That statement starts out with language similar to, “Don’t believe the scare tactics,” and I say that some gun enthusiast might say, “You will have to pry my gun from my cold dead hands.” This is also a movie quote. The crowd laughed and I made a joke. I admit the joke was a mistake and I should not have joked. But I go on to relay that the government cannot take away any guns or any items that were legally sold before any new laws take effect. To do this would be unconstitutional because that would constitute what is called an ex post facto law. Responsible gun owners have nothing to worry about. We have to do something different because what has been done is not working.
Just a joke, people!

Remember, though, you should have that steak, because it is Bad for ‘climate change’
Pepper skies with salt to slow global warming https://t.co/zH7gUoSS6v
— Tom Nelson (@TomANelson) March 26, 2018
From the link
Faced with a planet that is on average 1.2C hotter than it was before the industrial revolution, scientists have been nothing if not ingenious.
Ideas for slowing the pace of global warming include filling the oceans with iron filings, flying a giant mirror into space and lofting ice-spraying gondolas into the stratosphere on balloons.
The latest notion, proposed at a scientific conference in Texas, would involve dusting the atmosphere 11 miles above the Earth’s surface with a fine layer of table salt.
What could possibly go wrong?

It never was really hard to figure out what the March For Life really wanted: restrictive gun control used against law abiding citizens, versus getting tough on criminals who use guns, the people who shouldn’t have guns because of criminal backgrounds and issues that make others a danger to others/themselves, as well as fixing the problems that occurred due to government problems as we saw with the local police, sheriff’s department, school, and FBI in the Parkland shooting case
In Gun Control Marches, Students Led but Adults Provided Key Resources
They were rallies that would not have happened without the fervor of the students: teenage survivors of last month’s massacre in Parkland, Fla., frightened high schoolers in the Midwest, unnerved university students in the Northeast.
But the March for Our Lives demonstrations that unfolded on Saturday, from Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington to the streets of Salt Lake City to a small town in north Georgia, ultimately represented twin triumphs: of organic, youthful grass-roots energy, and of sophisticated, experienced organizational muscle.
Although the events, which together drew hundreds of thousands of demonstrators across the country, were inspired and often led by students, many protests simultaneously benefited from groups with more financial resources and organizational skills than the teenagers had on their own.
“We definitely teamed up,†said Madison Knoop, 18, who organized a rally of 2,500 in Montpelier, Vt., with the support of groups dominated by adults. “They were so helpful for the entire process.â€
Of course, the NY Times’ Jess Bidgood, Alan Blinder, and Vivian Wang attempt to explain all this astroturfing away, then shooting the explaining away down
Skeptics of the marches seized on the roles of major interest groups, suggesting that the students were unwitting participants in political warfare that should be reserved for adults. But organizers and supporters of Saturday’s events have done little to disguise that millions of dollars and thousands of hours were directed toward the weekend’s protests.
Then there’s this
Everytown for Gun Safety, which was founded and financed by Michael R. Bloomberg, the billionaire and former New York mayor, proudly declared that it had doled out more than $1 million in grants to local organizers. A nonprofit led by former Representative Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, arranged for more than 200 people from the Parkland area to attend Saturday’s march in Washington, and said it had worked with the owner of the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft, to use the N.F.L. franchise’s plane to bring some people to the capital.
Not really mentioned in the article is the sure notion that the left wing teachers in their schools were placing gun grabber thoughts in their heads, telling them to use their 1st Amendment Rights to get rid of their 2nd Amendment Rights, the very ones which help protect the 1st, 4th, 5th, and most of the others from government tyranny.
“The kids did everything,†said Jenn Hoadley, 36, who helped students organize a march in Anchorage. “All I did was say, ‘You want a stage? Cool. I’ll find one for you. You need a sound system? Cool. I’ll find one for you. You want to march in the park? I do paperwork to help you get that done.’ They planned it all, and they should be given credit for that.â€
So, the kids did everything except for most of the stuff. Who booked the buses? Who payed for them? Drove them?
Certainly, some of the older “kids”, including those in college, did stuff. We can’t completely short-change them. But, most seemed directed by the big leftist groups
Ms. Knoop said Women’s March officials shared their organizing skills and spreadsheets with contact information for politicians, media outlets and other organizations that might want to help out. Ms. Knoop applied for a permit to hold a rally on the steps of the gold-topped, Greek Revival State House in Montpelier and said a group called the Peace & Justice Center handled the liability insurance. And Ms. Knoop worked with Gun Sense Vermont, which advocates tighter gun laws in the state. The group also helped with planning and managed the event’s finances, including one of the grants Everytown issued.
“They handled the finances, any donations we got, they were paying for everything, which was really, really helpful,†Ms. Knoop said.
Oh, good, they were taking direction from a group that is big on gun grabbing (rather than letting women have firearms to protect themselves) as well as being heavily anti-Semitic.
Anyone who wants to give up their Constitutionally guaranteed Rights to government voluntarily is a dumbass. Period.

The only service that should be available for illegal aliens is a one way trip back to their country of origin. With perhaps a stay in jail if warranted
New Study Shines Light On The Services Lacking For Immigrants In Ohio
A new report on Ohio immigrants finds a lack of adequate access to educational opportunities, trustworthy and affordable legal services and accessible and affordable healthcare.
“Our Pathway to a Brighter Future” is the result of 18 months of research by the Health Landscape of Cincinnati and others, and was designed to figure out what the immigration population looks like in Ohio and what services are lacking.
Immigration attorney Allison Herre of Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio worked on the report and is disturbed that there are fewer than 35 immigration attorneys in the entire state. “It really opens up the door for fraud in this area,” she says. “Immigrants are very susceptible, being scammed by non-immigration attorneys trying to just get money from them and telling them they can do things that they can’t really do.”
Another area of concern is reliable and affordable healthcare. The report says 25 percent of foreign-born non-citizens are uninsured when compared to foreign-born naturalized at 6.5 percent and native born at 5.2 percent.
In addition, Herre says immigrants need more English classes and GED classes in Spanish. Just 39 percent speak English well.
Let’s break this down. First, the article doesn’t really say this study includes a heavy dose of illegal aliens. The study does, noting “those who have uncertain legal status” in the executive summary. But, the pro-illegal forces attempt to make legal immigrants and illegal aliens one and the same. And, a lot of those legally being settled in Ohio have been brought in as refugees, rather than people who wanted to become U.S. citizens.
Second, of course lawyers want more lawyers. Follow the money.
As for healthcare, illegal aliens aren’t our concern. Our citizens come first. And for legal immigrants, part of their citizenship requirement is that they be able to pay for their own lives. No government assistance. We would we want to bring in people who immediately go on the dole? Likewise, why would we bring in people who cannot communicate with U.S. citizens? People going through the citizenship process in full have to speak English, which means that there are quite a few in Ohio who are non-traditional immigrants and illegals.
The report says only a fraction of Ohio counties have ESOL services (English for Speakers of Other Languages). They are concentrated in Franklin County, with a smattering of services in Hamilton and Montgomery counties.
And? People coming to the U.S. should be able to communicate in our language before coming.
According to the report, there are 83,000 illegal aliens, or, undocumented immigrants as the study calls them, in Ohio. Which means there are probably at least double. And 4,000 “Dreamers”. The study, which starts to read more like a pro-illegal alien propaganda piece from Think Progress, even includes the thoughts of Maria, a DACA recipient, noting that she is “fearful on a day-to-day basis of how easily my status and my future can change with any decision by our current administration.â€
On the bright side, the study is calling for “philanthropy” to fund the services for the illegals. Which, of course, would soon turn to meaning “government should pay for it.”

Global experts gather in Christchurch to tackle climate change
Some of the world’s brightest minds are gathering in Christchurch this week to discuss how best to tackle the ever-pressing issue of climate change.
The city will host 120 scientists from 59 countries as they examine how to manage some of the thorniest problems caused by our rapidly-changing environment.
As members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – a global coalition of scientists and academics – they will spend the next five days drafting a report that will inform and influence how governments deal with the problem in the decades ahead.
And, of course, one of the things they’ll complain about is the use of fossil fuels by Other People, and the need to make those other people reduce their use of fossil fuels.
Artists have also created a street mural on the topic, part of which includes green-themed poems, one by 17-year-old Burnside High student Samantha Jory-Smart.
Street art. Otherwise known as graffiti, ie, destruction of property.
Meanwhile, did you remember that last night was Earth Hour, when Warmists spend 1/8760th of the year pretending they’re doing something
(ABC News) Hundreds of landmarks worldwide turned out their lights for one hour on Saturday night, starting at 30 minutes past 8 p.m., in order to bring attention to the issue of climate change. The symbolic shutdown is organized every year by the World Wildlife Fund and called the Earth Hour. It bills the event as the “world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment.”
Well, that’ll do it, eh!
