Washington Post Seems A Bit Upset Over Prosecuting Felons Who Voted Illegally

This is the Biiiiiig editorial of the day for the Washington Post, in which they are Offended on behalf of….people who broke the law, because raaaaacism

An assault on minority voting continues in North Carolina

WHEN ELECTION officials in North Carolina audited the 2016 vote, they found 441 ballots had been cast by felons on probation or parole who voted despite a state law barring them from the polls until their sentences are complete. Those votes were illegal, but most state prosecutors sensibly declined to bring charges on the grounds that the offenders didn’t know the law, weren’t alerted to their ineligibility and didn’t realize they had done anything wrong.

Not so in Alamance County, a small locality in the Piedmont where a dozen individuals convicted of felonies, nine of them African Americans, cast votes. There, the Republican district attorney, Pat Nadolski, has gone forward with prosecutions that reflect his own lack of judgment while reminding the nation of North Carolina’s recent poisonous racial history.

In North Carolina, where 70 percent of the population is white, blacks represent a hugely disproportionate share of convicted felons and incarcerated people. African Americans make up more than two-thirds of the 441 citizens statewide identified as having voted illegally.

Aaaaaaand? Oh, right, raaaaacism. Just because.

In the case of the Alamance 12, as they are now known, most seem to have had no intent to break the law; they were simply unaware of it. As it happens, a bill to require intent as a precondition for prosecuting illegal voters died this year in the state legislature.

I literally had to look up the “Alamance 12”, because this is pretty much a complete non-story here in the Raleigh area, and Alamance County is just to the west of us, between Greensboro and Durham. The main city is Burlington. I’ve yet to run across a story at WRAL, WTVD, WNCN, Spectrum News, the News and Observer, Charlotte Observer, or any others. I see there are a few minor ones in a few outlets, but, no one cares except a few race-baiting activists. Because these people initially broke the law. Then they decided to break it again by voting illegally. Whether they meant to or not, breaking the law is breaking the law. If they happen to be black, that’s immaterial.

But, see, this isn’t really about the “Alamance 12”, oh, no

The prosecution of the Alamance 12 plays into the canard, peddled by President Trump and some other Republicans, that fraudulent voting poses a threat to the republic. In fact, there is no evidence that intentional voting fraud takes place in any significant numbers in North Carolina, where nearly 4.8 million ballots were cast in 2016, or anywhere else. The true offense is this kind of disproportionate prosecution. Republicans should ask themselves whether, in a democracy, it is admirable to find themselves continually on the side of those who are trying to discourage and narrow the vote.

It’s about Trump and Republicans being big meanies for wanting to protect the integrity of one person one vote and making sure that people who should not be voting do not vote. That’s the last paragraph of the WPEB’s screed.

New Aquarium!

I was actually visiting the parents from Wednesday, came back Saturday afternoon. It’s a good thing I did. The plane was way late leaving Trenton due to thunderstorms, and I walked in to check my two tanks. Notice a little water around the edge of the 10 gallon, a nice Marineland with the day/night type light. Looked great. Moved it to look under, and saw a leak. Thought I could get away with it till Sunday, but, not, leak became worse and worse, had to put the fish in a tiny tank and put the other one outside.

I had only planned on getting a 20 gallon, but, this one is on sale at Petsmart for $78, 29 gallons.

I went from 20 inches wide, 12 width, 12 height to 30x12x18. I like the width, didn’t necessarily need it so high. To build one would have cost a whole lot more. Light covers are not cheap, add in about $38 for a 20 gallon wide tank, filter, wouldn’t need another heater, though. Now I have to get a few bigger decorations, though I’ll have to see how the plants grow. Also, a background. And I’ll have to get a bunch more Fire Gouramis and Tiger Barbs, down to 2 and 3, respectability. My pleco, which had gotten a bit big for the 10, will love it. Only downside is there is no moonlight, and, perhaps it might be a little too bright. Of course, without tall decorations, the light doesn’t get diffused much.

Have to move the painting above it up a bit.

I can’t move the Blue Gourami from the small tank on the right, though. Only fish he gets along with are Mollies, especially the reddish/orange ones. The whole purpose of that tank was for that one fish, which chased all the others around. No nipping, just chasing. Petco has replaced the 6.6 gallon with a 6.8, it’s a gorgeous tank for a shelf. You have to be reeeeealy careful with live plants, though, because they can foul the filters fast.

We’re Living In A ‘Climate Change’ Diaster Movie Or Something

Your mother called and said to stop being so overly dramatic, it’s just a paper cut

Big Smile, No Teeth: Did you realise? We’re living in a disaster movie

The future is now. Unfortunately, when I say that I mean the disaster of a future we all feared would show up when we spoke about the need to curb climate change.

Cape Town, South Africa, was fast headed to Day Zero, the day the water would run out, which was staved off only by the residents learning to use substantially less water; now, winter rains are refilling their depleted reservoirs.

The summer’s global heatwave has seen hundreds of people killed by heatstroke across the globe as countries see new temperature records, with Japan hitting 41.1°C, a city in Algeria, Ouargla, recording the highest temperature in Africa at 51.3°C, and a town called Quriyat in Oman logging the hottest ever night in recorded history at 42.6°C.

This is not normal weather. (proof?)

Having a heatwave somewhere in the world isn’t surprising. Having a heatwave everywhere in the world at the same time is the start of a disaster movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This is not going anywhere good.

Well, that movie didn’t do so well, and Climatruthers do not want to change their behavior to match their talking points. Anyway, the author continues his tale of dooooom, ending with

And so too must the rest of the world. We can make changes to help decrease our carbon footprint. We have to. Just like the residents of Cape Town, all of us have to do what it takes to avoid global disaster.

Humans have a tendency to wait until the last moment to jump out of the way of disaster even though we can see it coming from a long way off.

We must demand decisive action on climate change from our governments because the third act of that disaster movie is coming up and we want a happy ending.

Funny, writer Jason Godfrey forgets to offer solutions. Nor did Andy Martin with his “Climate change has doomed us – now what on earth should we do about it?” essay. Just lots of gloom and doom and whining and stuff. I had a boss way back in the day who said “if you’re not offering solutions, you’re just whining.” You know what my solution would be: Warmists should walk the talk and make their lives carbon neutral.

If All You See…

…is extreme weather dropping oodles of extreme rain, you might just be a Warmist

The blog of the day is Weasel Zippers, with a post on DNC deputy chair Keith Ellison being accused of beating and threatening former girlfriend.

I’d almost never drop my 2 cents in on these posts, but, extraordinary accusations require extraordinary proof, and, despite Ellison being a horrible human being, he is innocent till proven guilty.

“Anti-Racists” Go To Charlottesville, Show They’re Anti-Police

The anti-cop hatred from the political left continues. Here’s The Hill soft peddling it

Anti-racist protesters in Charlottesville angered by heightened police presence, riot gear

Anti-racist protesters staging non-violent demonstrations in Charlottesville, Virginia, Saturday said they were aggravated and perplexed by the heightened police presence that involved dozens of law enforcement officers in riot gear.

The nearly 200 protesters were gathered to march against white supremacy almost one year after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville turned violent, resulting in the death of local resident, Heather Heyer.

On Saturday, hundreds of police officers surrounded Charlottesville’s downtown area throughout the day in order to preclude any violent outbursts, according to multiple reports. Though there were no white nationalist events scheduled, many feared a repeat of last year, when authorities were blasted for being underprepared for the violence that broke out.

According to The Washington Post and Associated Press reports, the nighttime protesters mobilized against the police presence, which some described as aggressive and which some compared to last year’s white supremacists.

“Last year they came with torches,” said a large banner in downtown Charlottesville, according to the Washington Post. “This year they come with badges.”

A goodly chunk of these “anti-racist” people support anti-white writer Sarah Jeong, who’s now part of the NY Times Editorial Board. Oh, and goodly chunk of these “anti-racist” people are members of Antifa, and prone to violence, and usually starting the violence.

https://twitter.com/Cameron_Gray/status/1028427967238733824

First these Useful Idiots cry that the police didn’t protect them, then they cry that they are over-protecting them. And, perhaps the police were needed because these Antifa nutters like to put their hands on people

Of course, the media are doing their best to protect the violent Antifa members while slamming the neo-Nazis (they deserve condemnation).

Pollak: Almost Nobody Cares About Charlottesville Except NBC, CNN, and 200 Neo-Nazis

The media — particularly NBC and CNN — are abuzz about the anniversary of last year’s Charlottesville riot, which Americans had largely forgotten.

The only people who care are a handful of neo-Nazis, and the journalists who amplify them in an effort to tarnish the White House, boost Democrats’ election prospects, smear conservative media, and vent their contempt for the rest of America. (snip)

Ahead of the anniversary on Sunday, President Donald Trump condemned racism — again — on Saturday: “The riots in Charlottesville a year ago resulted in senseless death and division. We must come together as a nation. I condemn all types of racism and acts of violence. Peace to ALL Americans!” His daughter and adviser, Ivanka Trump, offered a more elaborate condemnation of racism and violence, and urged all Americans to come together.

It is a plea that will fall on deaf ears.

But, the media is also in a tizzy over those remarks, showing their deaf ears, such as the NY Times with Before ‘Unite the Right’ Rally, Trump Does Not Condemn Supremacists. Hey, the NY Times forgot to condemn their resident racist Sarah Jeong, so, their moral authority is rather tainted.

Doom Today: The Black Widow Spiders Are Coming Because You Eat Burgers

It’s always something with these Climahysterics. Always some sort of coming doom. Here’s today’s

BLACK WIDOW SPIDERS ARE HEADING NORTH DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE

As climate change warms the earth, black widow spiders are moving north.

The spiders are notorious, because venom is 15 times stronger than a rattlesnake’s. A bite can cause aches, pains, and paralysis of the diaphragm which make breathing difficult.

In a study published in PLOS One on Wednesday, Canadian researchers reported that over the past 60 years the northernmost point black widow spiders live has moved 31 miles north, into southern Canada. The scientists believe that the spread of the spiders, which prefer a temperate climate, is due to climate change.

Of course, this is not proof of anthropogenic or natural causation. It’s just happening. But, how did they arrive at this conclusion?

The team used citizen data to make updated species distribution maps for the spider. “In our project, the citizen science data was essential in modeling distributions of spiders,” Christopher Buddle, a co-author on the study and professor at McGill University, said in a statement. “People who are excited about discovering where species live can contribute in meaningful ways to scientific progress and this is exciting, important, and is changing how we do research.”

If people are finding cobras in NYC, that doesn’t mean they have established a foothold: it just means one escaped from the zoo. Regardless, things change on earth. The climate changes. Species ranges change. It’s like these people who say that Darwinism is holy writ immediately drop that belief for Hotcoldwetdry.

Peak 2018: Tourists In Rome Come To Blows Over Best Place To Take A Selfie

You might be thinking “well, why didn’t one take a selfie then get out of the way for the other?” Because they’ll take dozens of selfies in order to get that one perfect one, especially if they’re trying to get that sexy one for Instagram

Female tourists set off 8-person brawl at Rome’s Trevi Fountain — and it’s all because of selfies

One of Rome’s most famous landmarks was the backdrop for a vicious brawl Wednesday night — and it all started with a desire to take selfies.

The Guardian reports that local police were called to the Trevi Fountain — the iconic, Nicola Salvi-designed tourist destination famous for appearing in films such as Roman Holiday and La Dolce Vita — after two women came to blows. The reason for the dispute? Both women wanted to use the same spot to take selfies.

As Italian newspaper La Repubblica was the first to report, the two tourists — a 19-year-old Dutch woman and a 44-year-old Italian-American — argued over the space, with their respective family members eventually getting involved. All told, eight people were reportedly involved in the fight, which required four police officers to break up.

There’s already plenty of bad behavior going on at this fountain, and many others. People wading in (and recreating the scene from Federico Fellini’s film La Dolce Vita, in which the late Swedish actor Anita Ekberg wades into the fountain), dipping their toes, swimming, dropping food in, and so forth. Rome authorities are looking at ways to make it so people walk by scenes such as the Trevi Fountain without stopping. Bad apples are ruining for everyone else.

Boston Globe Wants Media To Go To War With Trump Next Week

Here’s Excitable Joe Scarborough

The thing is, the media has already gone to war with Trump. This started before he even won the primary, and would have gone on no matter who won the primary. It goes on against elected Republicans and Republican voters. We didn’t start this, Trump didn’t start this, but, we’ve been calling for decades for elected Republicans to stand up and take on the media. And when Trump did this we get

BOSTON GLOBE CALLS FOR ALL MEDIA OUTLETS TO PUBLISH ANTI-TRUMP EDITORIALS NEXT WEEK

The Boston Globe has called for the coordinated publication of editorials by any and all news outlets criticizing President Trump’s rhetoric on the press, scheduled for next week.

They have asked a number news organizations to publish editorials condemning the president’s labeling of the press as “the enemy of the people.”

Marjorie Pritchard, who oversees the Globe’s editorial page, says dozens of newspapers have agreed so far to write their own editorials, according to the Associated Press.

The Globe’s decision comes as a response to the president’s increasingly hostile rhetoric towards many news organizations — what the Boston newspaper calls his “dirty war against the free press.” Trump has consistently called out specific news organizations like CNN and MSNBC

What they want are papers to publish them on August 16th, but, really, this will be virtually nothing different from the rest of the week. Month. Year. If Trump came out in support of an assault weapons ban, keeping abortion illegal, a stronger Paris Climate Agreement, etc, the media would still find a way to slam him.

The media may not be the enemy of the people, but it sure is the enemy of Republicans/Conservatives. And anytime you think “perhaps Trump went a little too far by saying/tweeting X”, remember that the Boston Globe, a news outlet, wants all news outlets to band together to go after the duly elected president. But barely even chided Obama when he was literally spying on reporters.
