Climate Rules Take Fun Out Of German Autobahns

Bunch of killyjoys, always trying to ruin everything for Other People

Climate rules could put brakes on Germany’s no-limit autobahns

The days of unlimited speeding on Germany’s famously fast Autobahn network could be over if the government adopts draft proposals on climate protection put forward by its committee on the future of transport.

Charged with devising recommendations on reducing the environmental harm caused by transport, the committee also proposed fuel tax hikes and electric vehicle quotas to help Germany finally meet European Union emissions targets.

The proposals, outlined in a draft paper seen by Reuters, could prove controversial in car-mad Germany, whose decades-old motorway network is famous for no-limit sections where drivers can put even the fastest cars through their paces.

Germany could be hit with heavy EU fines if it fails to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and poisonous nitrogen oxides. Transport emissions, which have not fallen since 1990, are a particular target for reductions.

Well, good luck with this, especially the taxes, of which Germans already pay quite a lot. They should take a look at their neighbor to the west, France (there’s a joke in there, but, I won’t trot it out), and see what happened when the frog (sic) noticed the water boiling, ie, taxation up the wazoo.

The paper says measures including a motorway speed limit of 130km/h (80mph) and fuel tax rises from 2023, the abolition of tax breaks for diesel cars, and quotas for electric and hybrid car sales could deliver half the greenhouse gas emissions cuts that are needed.

The committee has yet to finalise the recommendations. It is due to report its findings at the end of March, which will then be incorporated into a climate change law the government wants to enact this year.

But the committee is well aware that many of its suggestions could be controversial.

They should recommend that government employees and elected officials be the first to live the carbon neutral life, giving up their big fossil fuels usage ways and more. See how quick they all repudiate the Cult of Climastrology, like people do when they escape Scientology.

California’s PG&E Is The First Big Business Casualty Of ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

The talking points have gone out to all the media outlets over the bankruptcy of energy company PG&E, and we can see all sorts of Cult of Climastrologist members writing wacky things, some in the opinion pages, some as opinion in the straight news sections. Here’s one of the craziest

PG&E: The First S&P 500 Climate Change Casualty

Nevil Chamberlain’s claim in September 1938 that his agreement with “Herr Hitler” had achieved “peace for our time” is one of the dramatic historical interludes that modern people look back upon with wonder.

How could so few at the time see that – rather than buying England a durable peace – giving Germany a green light to annex Czechoslovakia added fuel to the fire of Hitler’s ambition that would within a year spark the conflagration of the Second World War?

I believe that this week will prove similarly impactful in retrospect when viewed with a generation’s worth of hindsight.

For this week saw what is arguably the first bankruptcy of an S&P 500 firm due to the effects of Global Warming: Pacific Gas & Electric PCG.

Reuters reported on Monday that PG&E – a regulated utility that serves roughly 5.2 million households in central and northern California – was preparing to file for bankruptcy protection due to “potentially crushing” liabilities stemming from its equipment’s role in starting several of the enormously destructive fires of summer 2018.

PG&E itself attempted to blame ‘climate change’ for the fires last summer, in order to deflect blame for yet another massive wildfire caused by faulty equipment, particularly transmission lines. And most of the articles similar to above (but avoid the Hitler reference, something that is always in the forefront of unhinged leftist minds when a Republican is president) mention the equipment issues, which completely destroys the narrative that man-caused climate change is to blame.

Future investors will look back on these three months as a turning point, and wonder why the effects of climate change on the economic underpinnings to our society were not more widely recognized at the time.

Most likely they’ll look back and wonder why this heavily regulated by government company was failing to maintain its equipment, particularly in areas that were known to be historically dry and windy.

Elsewhere, we get

And on and on. But

University of Washington climate scientist Cliff Mass, a frequent critic of attempts to link western wildfires to climate warming, doesn’t think so.

“Climate change had little to do with either the Camp Fire of this November or the Wine Country Fire of October 2017,” Mass told The Daily Caller News Foundation. PG&E is liable for damages its equipment caused in massive California wildfires over the past two years. (snip)

“The fires were associated with a failing and poorly maintained power infrastructure, strong Diablo winds, and people living in appropriate locations on the wildland-urban interface,” Mass said.

The power lines were not rated for winds over 60 mph, which quite often happens in areas of California. Residents were reportedly warned of sparking wires prior to this year’s fires. And PG&E is attempting to pass on responsibility for the fires through the use of ‘climate change’, which will probably work as well as that guy who tried to use the Joe Biden defense as to why he fired his shotgun. Expect Warmists to continue the drumbeat of doom over PG&E, though, because facts and reality be damned.

Hot Take: Democrats Float Cancelling Super Bowl To Try To End Government Shutdown

They could easily end the government shutdown by simply giving Trump the $5.7 billion he requested, which covers a border barrier, border security, and for detention center operations. Democrats put all sorts of left wing stuff in their updated budget, just give Trump what is a pittance towards the size of the budget. But, no, they want to play this game. They should be careful. Trump is a master level troll. Nancy Pelosi tried to play a game with the State of the Union, and quickly learned that was a bad idea, as her overseas trip was cancelled at the last moment

Democrat Floats Canceling Super Bowl: ‘Would Definitely Lead to the End of the Government Shutdown’

Fox News reports a Democrat lawmaker confirmed that during a meeting of the House Democrat Conference–of which Speaker Nancy Pelosi is the leader–on Thursday morning, discussion of the shutdown’s effects on the Super Bowl caused a ruckus.

“A House Democratic Caucus meeting was roiled Thursday morning after one representative floated the possibility that the ongoing partial federal government shutdown might affect federal authorities’ ability to secure the upcoming Super Bowl,” Fox News’ Chad Pergram and Gregg Re reported.

“That definitely got everyone’s attention,” a Democrat lawmaker told Fox News anonymously.

Another Democrat lawmaker told Fox News anonymously that canceling the Super Bowl “would definitely lead to the end of the government shutdown.”

While nobody in President Donald Trump’s administration–which oversees the collection of government agencies that come together to handle travel, logistics, security, and more for major events like the Super Bowl–is suggesting that the Super Bowl be canceled like Democrats on Capitol Hill are floating, there is definitely concern about the shutdown’s impact on this year’s big game.

The largest segment of viewers for the NFL are Republican. And they have high turnout for elections. So, if you want to piss them off, even though they are still upset with the NFL, go ahead and try and run with this. They won’t be pissed at Trump: they’ll be pissed at Democrats, and you’ll entice them to show up even more for votes. But, the Super Bowl is special, so, now the Dems would also have all the celebs mad, because they can’t go to the game to be seen.

Regardless, it won’t be cancelled, and Democrats would be wise to keep this on the down low, else they learn what other fun things Trump can do to them. Love him or loath him, you have to admit that he does what we’ve been begging Republicans to do for 40 years: fight back.

Washington Post: The Next President Has To Make ‘Climate Change’ A Priority Or Something

I wonder what the carbon footprint of Jay Inslee’s campaign will be, what with all the energy, fossil fueled vehicles, food, and so forth. He’s the author of this opinion piece

The next president must make climate change the top priority

We are the first generation to feel the sting of climate change, and we are the last generation that can do something about it.

The Democratic Party must nominate a candidate who will put fighting climate change at the top of the agenda. And that’s why I’m seriously considering running for president.

The science is clear. We have a short period of time to act. And whether we shrink from this challenge, or rise to it, is the biggest question we face, as a nation and as a people.

It is also our chance to realize the greatest economic opportunity of this century: to create millions of good-paying jobs building a future run on clean energy.

For millions of Americans, climate change is no longer just a chart or a graph. It’s the smoke on our tongues from massive wildfires. It’s the floodwater invading our homes, and record-breaking hurricanes and heat waves.

Confronting this change has been the driving force of my time in public life. About a decade ago, I co-wrote a book about the need to transform our economy to one run on clean energy and the need for a national Apollo mission-style project to take on this herculean task.

Except, most people only care in theory. In practice, not so much.

But to win a national mandate for action everywhere, we must nominate a candidate who will deploy clean energy and cut carbon pollution on the ambitious scale required, even if it means deferring other worthy goals.

He’s referring to something he’s said before

Inslee hasn’t ignored those items (he just proposed a new public health care option in his state), but he has a message Democratic voters might not hear from the party’s presidential candidates: If you’re going to tackle climate change, the rest may have to wait.

“When you want college education for your kids, when you want better health care, when you want net neutrality, when you want all of those things, but your house is on fire and it’s burning down, you’ve got to put the fire out first and get your family out of the house,” he said.

Good luck with this if he thinks people are going to put off the economic issues that directly effect themselves in the immediate term for the pie in the sky man-caused climate change scam.

Who’s Ready For The Upcoming Housing Crisis From ‘Climate Change’?

This is actually a new one. I haven’t seen the Warmists yammer about it before

The mortgage industry isn’t ready for a foreclosure crisis created by climate change

A foreclosure crisis spurred by climate change is becoming a real threat to the mortgage industry as extreme storms and other natural disasters increasingly occur in places where borrowers might not have flood or fire insurance.

The industry is not prepared for the effects of such extreme weather and rising sea levels, according to Ed Delgado, CEO of national mortgage trade association the Five Star institute and a former executive at Freddie Mac.

“If we look at the basic foundation of what drives the mortgage market, it is the application of credit risk. What’s missing is the understanding of weather risk and where those weather events can take place,” Delgado said.

The current system is reactive and local and doesn’t include plans for the widespread effects of climate change. That could affect several major housing markets at once. (snip)

The mortgage market is not factoring the overall risk into its loan underwriting and is not quantifying the amount of potential losses should a wide swath of borrowers walk away from damaged or destroyed homes.

“Whether it’s fires and mudslides in California, flooding in Texas, or tornadoes in the Oklahoma region,” Delgado said. “It’s going to be a problem if the banks don’t start to pay closer attention to what those weather risks are.”

This is called weather. It’s something that has always happened. A carbon tax won’t stop it. There were plenty of huge weather impacts early in this warm period when CO2 was below the “safe” level of 350ppm, and plenty more during the previous cool and warm periods. It’s not witchcraft, it’s not Gaia being mad at mankind, and it’s not mostly/solely caused by mankind’s output of carbon dioxide. In fact, bad weather events have gone down. But, scaremongerers gotta scaremonger.

And when this doesn’t come to fruition, the Warmists will say “but, it’s coming soon! We promise! Pinky swear!”

Over 10,000 Student Warmists Dress Warmly To Protest ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

And you can bet most took a fossil fueled vehicle to the protest, and took lots of selfies and videos with their large carbon footprint smartphones. Plus all the road miles for the clothes they wore

Brussels climate protest: More than 10,000 children skip school to join demonstration in Belgian capital

More than 10,000 students skipped school again in Belgium to join a march demanding better protections of the globe’s fragile climate.

Despite the rain and cold, the colourful protest march in Brussels was bigger than the initial one last week.

Banners reading “School strike 4 Climate” and “Skipping school? No. We fight for our future”, highlighted the march, which was free of incidents.

Some schools show understanding for the no-shows.

Patrick Lancksweerdt, a director of a local school, told De Standaard newspaper that “education has to turn youngsters into mature citizens. By their actions, they proved that they are”.

They look cold, eh? And it wasn’t just in Belgium

(Seattle Times) Thousands of students are holding rallies across Germany and Switzerland to protest lack of action against climate change.

The demonstrations taking place in dozens of cities Friday were inspired by a Swedish student’s weekly “school strike.”

We’re saved! Of course, with all the ‘climate change’ energy restrictions in Germany and many other EU nations, people have moved quite often to burning wood pellets for heat. Trees. Good job.

When will these little Warmists start practicing what they preach? Bet they wouldn’t like that.

Awesome: Female Virginia Rep Openly Carries Her Firearm On House Floor

She says it is her version of the ERA and a way to protect herself from the crazy protesting and threatening liberals

FEMALE VA STATE SENATOR OPEN CARRIES ON HOUSE FLOOR — CALLS GUN HER ‘ERA’

A Virginia state senator utilized the state’s open-carry law in a unique way on Tuesday by carrying her .38 caliber revolver with her right into the state’s capitol building.

Amanda Chase, a first-term conservative state senator who has made news by being a vocal opponent of the Equal Rights Amendment, decided to carry her gun after pro-immigration activists confronted a fellow state senator the day before, forcing Capitol Police to be called, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“It concerned me,” Chase told The Washington Post, describing her feelings about the incident. “I’ve had threats. I’ve had stalkers since I’ve been in the General Assembly. I am going to continue to represent the issues that are important to my constituents, and I’m not going to be intimidated by people who would try to physically harm me.”

Chase, who has a concealed-carry permit and says she always carries concealed, open-carried on Tuesday while presenting bills in the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee. One of those bills happened to be an Equal Rights Amendment resolution alternative.

“Sometimes it’s a deterrent for over-exuberant folks. Unfortunately, in the General Assembly, we see the good, we see the bad, we see all types of things,” she told the Times-Dispatch. “It’s just for personal safety, quite honestly.”

“I’ve had people get in my face. I’ve had people come up and try to touch me inappropriately,” she told the Post. “And it is a deterrent.”

It’s actually very normal for members of the General Assembly in Virginia to carry their weapons in a concealed manner within the GA building. Of course, liberal gun grabbers are spinning the open carry

She’s actually done this on at least two days

“I’ve been called a ‘badass,’” Chase said to the Post, adding that she believes the practice“empowers women.”

“I jokingly call it my ERA.”

Carrying a firearm is a great equalizer for women. Strange how the self-professed defenders of women in the Democratic Party want to take this away.

Bummer: Healthcare Is Bad For ‘Climate Change’

Well, hey, would could solve this with Medicare For All, since people wouldn’t be getting much in the way of healthcare, right? Vox is on the case of something that no one had ever thought about before, so, hey, why not link it all up?

Doctors are frightened by climate change. Their industry is a big part of the problem.
Health care creates a tenth of US greenhouse gas emissions.

Wildfire deaths. Smoky air. Floods. Droughts. There’s no escaping the reality that global warming is rapidly exacerbating threats to human health and communities in the United States and around the world. As the top scientists have told us over and over, we need to immediately lower our greenhouse gas emissions to avoid climate change’s most catastrophic effects. Governments and businesses are particularly on the hook, but so are citizens — we are all in this together.

That includes you, doctors.

In a New England Journal of Medicine commentary published Wednesday, a pair of Boston doctors make the case that it’s high time medical professionals engage more directly in the fight to limit climate change. Lead author Caren Solomon, a physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, tells Vox she was compelled to write the piece as the urgency of the climate crisis has become clearer and clearer. (snip)

But that’s not all: It turns out that the business of saving lives is part of the problem. In the US alone, health care accounts for nearly a tenth of greenhouse gas emissions. Lifesaving equipment like CAT scanners, respirators, and dialysis machines have huge energy demands, currently met with fossil fuel energy. If US health care were a country, according to Solomon and her co-author Regina LaRocque, it would have a $3.3 trillion GDP and rank seventh in the world in total emissions. Hospitals also produce about a pound of hazardous medical waste per bed per day.

Easiest thing to do is just kill everyone, right? Meh. Warmist always find a way to ruin everything.

Anyhow, what can doctors do?

  • Hospitals can commit to 100 percent clean energy, or carbon neutrality (yeah, let’s run hospitals with unreliable, expensive energy, which will drive up prices more)
  • Doctors can educate policymakers and the public about the health impact of climate change (and this reduces the so-called carbon footprint of the medical sector how, exactly? This is just spreading awareness)
  • Heath care can divest from fossil fuel companies (and this will drive up medical costs, and, weird how this looks just like what the far left is pushing, right?)
  • Physicians need to get ready for increasing environmental health threats linked to climate change (how does this decrease their own carbon footprint?)

So, basically, they can do things that will do almost nothing. How about all the doctors giving up their own expensive fossil fueled vehicles?
