Washington Post: The Green New Deal Isn’t Big Enough Or Something

It’s wonderful that the Washington Post is giving a platform to a hyper-partisan hyper-Warmist hyper-virulent Trump hater to peddle this type of hyper-leftist Progressive (nice Fascism) stuff on the Green New Disaster, er, Deal. You know, the one which Democrats, including its main sponsor, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, refuse to hold a vote on in the House, and freaked when the Republicans forced a vote on it in the Senate

The Green New Deal isn’t too big. It’s not nearly big enough.

As progressives have coalesced around the Green New Deal, its proponents say that its ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions would, if adopted, protect the Earth from catastrophic global warming. An article in the Nation called the Green New Deal “our best hope for saving the planet,” because it would “confront climate change on the scale that this crisis demands.” Some present averting climate disaster as a kind of national race against a foreign enemy, like a Manhattan Project for the whole economy. “In the 1960s, the U.S. pointed the full power of its military-technological industry at going to the moon,” wrote the Atlantic’s Robinson Meyer. Rep. Alexandria “Ocasio-Cortez wants to do the same thing, except to save the planet.”

So why won’t she demand a vote on it? She has tweet pinned about ‘climate change’ and the GND and she retweeted one on the 3rd about the need to declare a climate emergency. Perhaps an actual reporter, rather than the typical sycophants, can ask her why she won’t demand a vote? Oh, right, because she said it’s more about messaging and never meant to be passed. But, voting is rather the point of elected officials, is it not?

You never would know from these encomiums that the Green New Deal cannot stave off calamity by keeping the planet from warming 2 degrees Celsius above preindustrial temperatures, the threshold endorsed by most scientists. That’s because, like the 1930s New Deal and the 1960s space program, the Green New Deal is focused on the United States.

Space program? Huh what? Do they still teach history in schools?

Yet the United States is currently responsible for only 15 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, and that share is declining as pollution from the developing world rises. So while radical cuts to U.S. emissions — which are the largest per capita after a few Persian Gulf nations and Australia — are necessary, they’re insufficient. Every other rich country also needs to make similar cuts, immediately. The developed nations with large emissions (Saudi Arabia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Britain and others) can afford their own Green New Deals; perhaps they can be persuaded to do their parts, if we do.

But developing nations — such as India, Pakistan, Ecuador and Malaysia — aren’t going to unilaterally constrain their own economies. If carbon-based energy sources help them compete in the global marketplace, that’s what they’ll use — unless, economists say, they get financial help to develop sustainably, with industrialization powered by renewable energy instead of oil, gas and coal. And there’s only one place they can get that help: from wealthy countries like ours. Giving them cash needs to be part of any Green New Deal.

So, Adler rather admits that the GND will “constrain”, in other words, destroy, the economies of nations, but, hey, we’re rich, we can give away money from our “constrained” economy to other nations, right? You don’t mind ponying up money while you’re cost of living skyrockets, right? If you still have a job, that is.

Conservative critics, pointing to inflated estimates of its possible costs, have said the Green New Deal is too big. But when it comes to saving the planet, it’s not nearly big enough. (snip)

The next president could go further and tell allies such as Germany, Japan and Canada that their status as major trading partners protected by the U.S. security umbrella is now contingent upon their making steep emissions cuts…

Right, right. The same people have thrown snit fits over Trump telling allies to pay more of their fair share for things like NATO, as well as to lower their tariffs. But, hey, we have a planet to save from….well, something that is almost completely natural and has been happening throughout the Holocene, as well as the Earth’s history. Adler keeps going on and on (it is an extremely long piece for the opinion section), but the point is to force the GND internationally, implementing the big tax, big government, big loss of freedom to government ways of the Green New Deal.

Democrats Are Super Excited Over Triumphant Victory On ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

Remember, the Democrats passed their silly climate legislation which was beat down by many Cult of Climastrology groups as being worthless/not doing nearly enough. Also, remember that Democrats did not want to vote on Obama’s Paris Climate Agreement

Triumphant, eh? It won’t get a vote in the GOP controlled Senate, and if Cocaine Mitch put it up for a vote, Democrats would object that it was a stunt and vote “present.” And, let’s say it did pass the Senate: Trump would veto it. So, this is going nowhere. Triumphant, eh?

Let’s remember that a main point of HR9 is to rescind Trump following the rules in pulling the U.S. out of the Paris agreement (which we cannot really be in, since it is dubious that a president can put the country in any agreement such as this without Congressional approval, which is why the entire thing is non-binding). Democrats did not like being forced to vote on it back in 2015, again, calling it a stunt to put them on the record. This is really just red meat for their unhinged base.

When will Elected Dems pledge to give up their own use of fossil fuels? How about turning off the power to the House side of the Congressional building and to parts of the office buildings, since the power mostly comes from a coal fired power plant?

Adults Need To Stop Tweeting And Start Acting On ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

Kids who cannot live in a world without social media and smartphones are Upset

‘We need to get adults to stop Tweeting and start acting’

Friday afternoon, Albuquerque middle and high school students took over a corner of the University of New Mexico’s Johnson Field—and then a busy intersection nearby—to demand action on climate change.

Alyssa Ruiz from Sandia High School told the crowd that while the United States plans to spend more than a billion dollars building a wall along the U.S./Mexico border, the Trump administration’s proposed budget for 2020 cuts spending on renewable energy. “When will our future be considered a national emergency?” she asked.

Katie Butler, a 17-year-old student from La Cueva High School, was among the co-organizers of the School Strike for Climate Action. “This isn’t about politics,” she said. Rather, climate change is a human rights issue.

And seventh grader Eliott Patton expressed the frustration echoed by many of the teens at the protest. “We need to get adults to stop Tweeting,” she told the crowd, “and start acting.”

OK, let’s get rid of school buses and require the kids to walk or bike to school. We can turn the heat down to 65 and the AC up to 78. No more outlets to charge their smartphones, and turn the WiFi routers off, due to all the vampire electricity. They’re cool with that, right? No meat will be served at lunch, no carbonated drinks, no snacks.

Arriving at the protest with his mom and two siblings, ten-year-old Alex Hanna told NM Political Report he fights for climate change “because it’s our future and we can’t waste it.”

I wonder what type of fossil fueled vehicle they used to get to the protest. ‘Climate’ action starts with themselves. And other Climahypocrites

Is giving up flying the best way to stop climate change?

I start sweating nervously every time I read about how air travel impacts the environment.

Having lived abroad for more than 20 years, I take a plane as if it were a city bus, worrying only about how to get from A to B as quickly as possible.

And yet I know there are very valid arguments for why we should substantially reduce aeroplane journeys, or stop flying altogether.

Warmist Lise Floris is a typical Climahypocrite, and, like most, finds ways to excuse her Bad Behavior. She makes small donations to offset her jet-setting lifestyle, and

Nothing can replace experiencing another country in real life, with all its culture shock and emotion.

Now more than ever, we need to find ways to understand our world. Flying may actually be required for us to experience the world with open eyes and without prejudice.

Flying in order to “be there” has taught me about many things.

With tears in my eyes, I have seen thousands of acres of palm oil plantations in Asia from the air — and their impact on wildlife from the ground.

Interesting. The massive expansion of palm oil plantations coincided with the growth of the Cult of Climastrology. While it is used in many things, including cookies, its supposed low carbon footprint and use as a biofuel have caused environmental destruction. So, Lise wants to see the destruction partly driven by her own cult. Don’t expect the vast majority of Cult members to change their ways, though. Won’t happen. Except where government action comes into play, and then they are very surprised that they stuff they wanted for Other People hurts their own lives.

Rep. Jody Hice Attempts To Force House Vote On Green New Deal

Hey, if Green New Deal co-sponsor Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won’t demand a vote on her own resolution, someone has to

House Republican moves to force vote on Green New Deal

GOP Rep. Jody Hice (Ga.) on Wednesday introduced a discharge petition aimed at circumventing Democratic leadership and forcing a vote on the progressive-backed Green New Deal.

Hice, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, said he is hoping to gain at least 20 Democratic signatures to reach the 218 needed to utilize the procedural tool.

“I’m not gonna put any Democrats on the spot right now, I’ve had some positive conversations but we’ll see,” Hice told The Hill. “There are 92 Democrats that have co-sponsored the Green New Deal so hopefully some of them will come on board and call for a vote.”

The move is the latest ploy by the GOP to force Democrats to go on the record on a controversial issue — a tactic that could place swing district members on the other side of the aisle in a difficult position.

See? Demanding a vote on legislation introduced by people’s whose job it is to vote on things is a “ploy”. Despite AOC constantly yammering about how awesome it is, Cult of Climastrology writers squeeing over it, heck, some saying it needs to be even bigger!

Ocasio-Cortez and other backers of the House resolution have not called for a floor vote and have instead said it’s messaging focused and was never meant to be passed.

She has called Republican plans a political maneuver.

“This is very similar, this is a mirroring tactic to what [Senate Majority Leader Mitch] McConnell [R-Ky.] was doing in the Senate. To not hold a single hearing just shows that they aren’t taking this problem seriously,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Hill.

OK, so when is she going to call for hearings on it? And do we really need them? You can read it in full in a couple of minutes. Perhaps take 10 to fully understand it.

Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) said he would support Democrats in the House employing similar efforts as their Senate counterparts and voting present if Republicans successfully forced a Green New Deal vote.

“I think the best strategy is to call it for what it is, a ‘got you’ deal, and ignore it,” said Grijalva.

So, wait, forcing Democrats to vote on resolutions they introduced and say the support is a “gotcha”? Huh.

Washington Post Wonders If Trump Economy Is Too Good To Be True

Buckle your seatbelts, Heather Long of the Washington Post is looking for a way to downgrade the Trump economy

Is this economy too good to be true?

The U.S. economy again defied expectations in April, as another month of strong hiring and falling unemployment forced experts to reevaluate just how good the economy can get — and how long the current expansion can last.

Employers added 263,000 new jobs last month, a record 103 straight months of job growth, and the official unemployment rate fell to 3.6 percent, the lowest since 1969, the Labor Department reported Friday.

The latest piece of good news comes accompanied by strong wage growth, hot stock markets and a first-quarter growth report last week that smashed expectations. Equally noteworthy is what economists aren’t seeing: the high levels of inflation that have accompanied previous expansions.

So, things are going pretty well, eh? Sure, there are a few things to work on, but, even with continuing automation, companies are hiring. Businesses are being created. Others are expanding. Gross domestic product is blowing the blase’ Obama GDP away. No one is talking about the massive, historic numbers of people who dropped out of the labor market like under the previous White House resident. We’re even seeing the return of some manufacturing jobs. So, of course

As the economy continues to grow past what many predicted was possible, some analysts and officials are wondering if the current state of the economy is too good to be true — and that experts must be missing warning signs.

Some expressed concerns about rising debt after the Trump administration undertook heavy borrowing to fund tax cuts and additional government spending to boost growth. President Trump is actively pushing for more, including a $2 trillion infrastructure package, additional military spending and extra stimulus from the Federal Reserve.

Funny, we weren’t treated to “concerns” while Obama was getting his massive Stimulus, borrowing from China, doing smaller stimulus after stimulus, adding $9 trillion to the debt, etc. But, the media does this every time the economy is roaring during a Republican presidency.

But few, if any, deny the remarkable overall strength of the U.S. economy.

“ ‘Spectacular’ is the only way to describe this jobs report,” said Sung Won Sohn, an economist at Loyola Marymount University and SS Economics. “It is hard to believe that this 10-year-old recovery keeps pumping out home runs.”

Previous eras of such economic performance ended painfully. The prosperity of the 1960s was followed by runaway inflation in the 1970s; the long expansion of the 1990s burst along with the tech bubble; and the gains of the 2000s ended when a collapsing housing bubble spiraled into a global financial crisis and the worst recession in generations.

“Things are great, doom starts soon!” And they’ll blame it on Trump. It’s like they want doom to happen.

Naggy U.K. Goverment Advises Subjects On How To Live Their Climate Friendly Lives Or Something

Say, I wonder if the U.K. government will give up its own big carbon ways. No more fossil fueled trips for elected lawmakers and government employees. Get rid of their military. Nah, they’ll just nag the peasants

The Climate Change Lifestyle: Experts Identify 3 Personal Habits That Could Help Save the Planet

Eat less meat. Ride a bike. Watch your energy bill.

If you’re wondering how to reduce your personal impact on climate change, a U.K. government advisory group has a guidebook for you, buried in a sprawling report released Thursday on how the country can achieve “net zero” greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

That fresh target meets the requirements of the Paris Agreement, which commits member countries to set their “highest possible ambition” to keep global temperatures from rising by 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and ideally below 1.5 degrees, to prevent the worst effects of climate change. (You don’t need a reminder on what those are, do you?)

Temperatures are already 1 degree above pre-industrial levels, so the report says acting on the recommendations—which cover widespread shifts in business, policy, and consumer behavior—is urgent.

Being 1C above 1850 temperature is a) no proof that it is mostly/solely due to Mankind, and b) utterly normal during the Holocene and coming out of a cool period. Here’s more on this nuttiness

Anyone out there keep their homes 66F or less for heating? I keep mine at 68, but, that’s my choice. Other people keep it at 70. A graphic in the story shows

The only way this is done is through government force. So, that is what they will push.

Cartoonist Who Drew Anti-Semitic Graphic For NY Times Blames “Jewish Propaganda”

Go figure

Good of CNN, usually unhinged Brian Stetler, and the others to offer this

Reporters in The New York Times (NYT) newsroom could hear the protesters outside on Monday. “Shame on you!” they shouted. Some held signs that accused the newspaper of being anti-Semitic. Others waved American and Israeli flags.

The demonstrators packed Eighth Avenue in New York City in response to a recent cartoon that was baldly anti-Semitic. The image appeared in international editions of The Times last Thursday. It called to mind “a very dark time in Jewish history,” lawyer Alan Dershowitz said at the protest. “I ask myself, how could it have happened?”

That’s what staffers at The Times wanted to know too. In interviews this week, 16 Times staffers described a short-staffed international publication; an opinion section prone to self-inflicted wounds; and an ongoing debate about the newspaper’s biases and blind spots. (snip)

“I don’t think anyone in our office believes for one second there is an issue with institutionalized anti-semitism at the NYT,” one staffer in an international bureau said. “But as with all newsrooms that have gone through radical restructuring in recent years, that so many checks and balances have been removed and that this could go up without being seen by a second pair of eyes makes reporters and editors alike concerned.”

Yes, the checks and balances that would keep anti-Semites from working for the NY Times, especially the international edition, what with the rising Jew hatred in the mid-East and Europe.

Portuguese artist António Moreira Antunes has been drawing political cartoons for 45 years. He recently decided to take on the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and recently re-elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. (sadly, the next quote is way, way, way down in the article)

In an interview with CNN, conducted in Portuguese, Antunes said he was surprised by the outrage. He said he has the “utmost respect” for the Jewish peoples’ past, but said that doesn’t mean they can be “above criticism.”

He claimed that anti-Semitism charges are a misunderstanding “made through the Jewish propaganda machine, which is, anytime there’s criticism it’s because there’s someone anti-Semitic on the other side, and that’s not the case.”

He blamed right-wing figures: “The Jewish right doesn’t want to be criticized, and therefore, when criticized they say ‘We are a persecuted people, we suffered a lot… this is anti-Semitism.'”

So, he’s totally learned from this incident. The casualness of anti-Semitism on the political left is disturbing. And mainstream.
