With ICE Raids Looming, Immigrants Worry: ‘Every Time Someone Knocks, You Get Scared’
All week, Veronica had distracted herself from a constant barrage of news about a series of coordinated immigration raids that the Trump administration planned to begin this weekend in cities across the country.
She worked late every night, preparing for a weeklong family vacation to Florida to visit Disney World and go fishing. She booked a three-bedroom apartment for herself and 13 family members. She packed her 4-year-old daughter’s Mickey Mouse backpack and “Frozenâ€-themed suitcase with clothes, stuffed animals and a blanket to sleep with.
But then, the woman who cleans Veronica’s home, who is undocumented, showed her cellphone videos of immigration arrests happening in Miami. The woman warned that Freddie, Veronica’s husband and partner of 15 years, who is undocumented and has a standing deportation order, could be swept up. Other family members and friends started to call, saying the same.
Wait, wait, are we supposed to feel bad for Veronica, who is a stand-in for all the illegals? That deportation order didn’t originate from ICE, nor from POTUS Donald Trump: a federal judge would have signed it, after Veronica’s husband exhausted the immigration process.
President Trump’s promises on Friday that the administration would execute a series of immigration arrests nationwide added to fears that have been growing among immigrant communities for more than a month, as the raids have been debated, scheduledand then rescheduled.
The operation will target some 2,000 undocumented immigrants who crossed the border recently, in groups of family units. That is a departure from what is typical for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who tend to focus on deporting adults who entered the country alone. But word of the operation seems to have struck fear across undocumented communities, including among people who have been living here for years.
Not mentioned in the article is that the operation is for those who have been ordered to leave the U.S., voluntarily or involuntary, by federal judges.
A 17-year-old girl, who lives in one of the shelters and who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said a shelter employee used coded language to warn her family to go into hiding and to return on Monday. “They said, ‘Your room is going to be very hot this weekend. Come back Monday when things cool off,’†she said.
And that would be a felony, helping someone avoid a lawful federal deportation order.
Across the country, news of the operation sparked fear, even among immigrants who were unlikely to be affected — such as those who had never had an encounter with federal authorities, and were therefore unknown to the government, according to lawyers who were making preparations on Friday.
And they should be afraid, being that they are here in violation if United States law. Why is this so damned hard to understand? All this is saying that Democrats are for Open Borders. If they refuse to deport illegals under court order, who would they deport? They even protect illegals who serious crimes on their records.
Democrats really should be asked the specific questions “which illegal aliens can we deport?” and “which illegals can we stop at the border?”

These Pictures Of Activists Begging You To Take Climate Change Seriously Are Intense
Since last year, activists with the climate activism group Extinction Rebellion have been grabbing headlines across Europe for their disruptive protests. Founded on the principle of using nonviolent civil disobedience, they intend to force people to pick a side: address climate change or cooperate with a system that is dragging the world toward catastrophe.
While they’ve been getting their name and message out there with their activities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, South Africa, and elsewhere, winning over converts in small groups with their vision of change is what’s caused their numbers to swell, BuzzFeed News’ J. Lester Feder reports.
Here are some of the most eye-catching pictures from their protests, demonstrations, rallies, and actions around the world.

I’m taking it seriously. How about you? (more below the fold)

In reality, Republicans have, at best, a 2% shot at winning the seat in NY14. It is a purely safe seat for Democrats. But, it might cause Democrats to nominate another Democrat to primary her, especially with all the in-fighting between her, her squad, and Justice Democrats against Nancy Pelosi and the other Democrats
Second Republican announces plans to challenge Ocasio-Cortez in New York
Republican John Cummings on Friday announced plans to challenge Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for her seat next year.
Cummings said in an interview with the New York Post that he was inspired to launch his own congressional bid by Ocasio-Cortez’s long shot run last year.
“But to just come from the outside and take somebody on is really difficult,†Cummings, a 59-year-old civics teacher and former police officer, told the Post.
“It was pointed out to me by my students that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pretty much made my excuse — and I’ll use their quotes — ‘a lame one,’ †he added of the former bartender. (snip)
Cummings is the second Republican to announce a challenge to Ocasio-Cortez, joining Ruth Papazian.
Regardless of who eventually wins the GOP’s congressional nomination, Ocasio-Cortez will enter the race with a huge advantage in a district that Hillary Clinton carried over President Trump by nearly 58 points in 2016.
Remember, though, AOC polls very badly in her district. What happens if one of these Republicans starts offering ideas that the people in NY14 like and gains traction? Meh, it almost doesn’t matter, AOC will get primaried. She’s caused too many problems in the Dem party.
Nice to know that a court actually rules on Law rather than their personal political leanings now and then
Appeals court gives Trump a win in sanctuary city case
A federal appeals court gave President Donald Trump a rare legal win in his efforts to crack down on “sanctuary cities” Friday, upholding the Justice Department’s decision to give preferential treatment in awarding community policing grants to cities that cooperate with immigration authorities.
The 2-1 opinion overturned a nationwide injunction issued by a federal judge in Los Angeles. The court said awarding extra points in the application process to cities that cooperate was consistent with the goals of the grant program created by Congress.
“The Department is pleased that the Court recognized the lawful authority of the Administration to provide favorable treatment when awarding discretionary law-enforcement grants to jurisdictions that assist in enforcing federal immigration laws,” the Justice Department said in an emailed statement.
“This ruling reverses a lawless decision that enabled Sanctuary City policies, putting the safety and security of all Americans in harm’s way,” the White House said later Friday in an emailed statement. “We urge citizens across America to demand that Democrat leaders cease their support for Sanctuary policies that deprive Americans of life, limb, and liberty.”
If cities do not want to cooperate with federal law enforcement, if they do not want to enforce federal law, then why give them money? Let them get it by raising taxes on their own citizens and/or asking for money from the state.

Obviously, the solution here is to ban all streaming porn, and everyone go back to VHS…wait, no, they are made of plastic, which comes from oil. How about DVDs? No, plastic as well. Magazines? Nope, dead trees. Well, we’re just going to have to ban porn except in person to save the Earth from getting a fever
Streaming online pornography produces as much CO2 as Belgium
The transmission and viewing of online videos generates 300 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, or nearly 1 per cent of global emissions. On-demand video services such as Netflix account for a third of this, with online pornographic videos generating another third.
This means the watching of pornographic videos generates as much CO2 per year as is emitted by countries such as Belgium, Bangladesh and Nigeria.
That’s the conclusion of a French think tank called The Shift Project. Earlier this year, it estimated that digital technologies produce 4 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions and that this figure could soar to 8 per cent by 2025.

The move to ever higher quality videos, such as 8K resolution, will contribute to pushing up emissions further. So too could the launch of game streaming services, such as Google’s Stadia, but the report did not try to estimate their impact.
The authors call for measures to limit the emissions from online videos, such as preventing them from autoplaying and not transmitting videos in high definition when it is unnecessary. For instance, some devices can now display higher resolutions than people can perceive. The report says regulation will be necessary.
“This once again demonstrates the need for the designers of digital services to think carefully about the overall  impact of the services they provide,†Preist says. “For individuals, upgrading our devices less often, owning less devices, and not demanding mobile high quality internet connection everywhere are probably the most important actions we can take.â€
To limit climate change we need to reduce energy consumption as well as switching to renewable sources, says one of the report’s authors, Maxime Efoui. “Producing new energy infrastructure generates emissions, even if the electricity produced is eventually renewable,†he says.
Who’s going to limit this? The streaming companies? Good luck with that. This is about Government making laws and rules to control things.
Though I’m personally OK with a federal government law stopping autoplay. Fricking annoying. I was amused by the use of the lady from the Distracted Boyfriend meme, though.

Remember, these same people attempting to force Everyone Else to give up their fossil fuels per government decree mostly refuse to voluntarily give up their own. The article even features a pithy picture of a nuclear detonation!
Why we need a non-proliferation treaty for fossil fuels
The burning of fossil fuels is the primary cause of the current climate crisis. And yet the Paris Agreement, the landmark accord which is meant to keep the world from passing warming of 1.5C, does not even mention them.
We need a new approach which puts front and centre the increasingly obvious need to fairly leave the majority of fossil fuel reserves in the ground.
(blah blah blah, typical Warmist claptrap)
In a paper in Climate Policy, we make the case for a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty (NPT). Taking its cue from the non-proliferation treaty for nuclear weapons concluded after just three years in 1968, a fossil fuel version could have three pillars.
These parallel those of the nuclear NPT: non-proliferation (an agreement not to exploit new reserves), disarmament (the managed decline of existing fossil fuel infrastructure) and peaceful use (the financing of low carbon alternatives through a global transition fund). (snip)
These are actions which national governments could list as part of their climate commitments under the Paris Agreement to raise the level of ambition.
See, the only way to make this happen is by Government force. Funny how that always seems to be the solution, eh?
