Trump Gets Big Win Against Sanctuary Cities In Court

Nice to know that a court actually rules on Law rather than their personal political leanings now and then

Appeals court gives Trump a win in sanctuary city case

A federal appeals court gave President Donald Trump a rare legal win in his efforts to crack down on “sanctuary cities” Friday, upholding the Justice Department’s decision to give preferential treatment in awarding community policing grants to cities that cooperate with immigration authorities.

The 2-1 opinion overturned a nationwide injunction issued by a federal judge in Los Angeles. The court said awarding extra points in the application process to cities that cooperate was consistent with the goals of the grant program created by Congress.

“The Department is pleased that the Court recognized the lawful authority of the Administration to provide favorable treatment when awarding discretionary law-enforcement grants to jurisdictions that assist in enforcing federal immigration laws,” the Justice Department said in an emailed statement.

“This ruling reverses a lawless decision that enabled Sanctuary City policies, putting the safety and security of all Americans in harm’s way,” the White House said later Friday in an emailed statement. “We urge citizens across America to demand that Democrat leaders cease their support for Sanctuary policies that deprive Americans of life, limb, and liberty.”

If cities do not want to cooperate with federal law enforcement, if they do not want to enforce federal law, then why give them money? Let them get it by raising taxes on their own citizens and/or asking for money from the state.

Streaming Porn Has A Carbon Footprint Bigger Than Belgium Or Something

Obviously, the solution here is to ban all streaming porn, and everyone go back to VHS…wait, no, they are made of plastic, which comes from oil. How about DVDs? No, plastic as well. Magazines? Nope, dead trees. Well, we’re just going to have to ban porn except in person to save the Earth from getting a fever

Streaming online pornography produces as much CO2 as Belgium

The transmission and viewing of online videos generates 300 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, or nearly 1 per cent of global emissions. On-demand video services such as Netflix account for a third of this, with online pornographic videos generating another third.

This means the watching of pornographic videos generates as much CO2 per year as is emitted by countries such as Belgium, Bangladesh and Nigeria.

That’s the conclusion of a French think tank called The Shift Project. Earlier this year, it estimated that digital technologies produce 4 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions and that this figure could soar to 8 per cent by 2025.

The move to ever higher quality videos, such as 8K resolution, will contribute to pushing up emissions further. So too could the launch of game streaming services, such as Google’s Stadia, but the report did not try to estimate their impact.

The authors call for measures to limit the emissions from online videos, such as preventing them from autoplaying and not transmitting videos in high definition when it is unnecessary. For instance, some devices can now display higher resolutions than people can perceive. The report says regulation will be necessary.

“This once again demonstrates the need for the designers of digital services to think carefully about the overall  impact of the services they provide,” Preist says. “For individuals, upgrading our devices less often, owning less devices, and not demanding mobile high quality internet connection everywhere are probably the most important actions we can take.”

To limit climate change we need to reduce energy consumption as well as switching to renewable sources, says one of the report’s authors, Maxime Efoui. “Producing new energy infrastructure generates emissions, even if the electricity produced is eventually renewable,” he says.

Who’s going to limit this? The streaming companies? Good luck with that. This is about Government making laws and rules to control things.

Though I’m personally OK with a federal government law stopping autoplay. Fricking annoying. I was amused by the use of the lady from the Distracted Boyfriend meme, though.

Excitable California Passes Bill Requiring Trump To Release His Tax Returns To Be On Ballot

Sure, sure, this is for all who are running for president (wink wink). It has nothing personally to do with Donald Trump (wink wink)

California Passes Measure Requiring Presidential Candidates To Release Tax Returns

The California Legislature has overwhelmingly passed a measure requiring all presidential and gubernatorial candidates to release their tax returns to get on the primary ballot, which could shake things up for President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

The Presidential Tax Transparency & Accountability Act, SB 27, would require that the candidates release the previous five years of their returns. The bill passed 57-17 in the Assembly on Tuesday and 29-10 in the state Senate Thursday. It now awaits the signature of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom to become law.

The measure includes an urgency clause, which would allow the legislation to take effect immediately, in time for the 2020 election, reports ABC-7 News. The measure only applies to the primary ballot because the state constitution allows political parties to nominate their own presidential candidates in the general election.

Wait, wait, we were told this was supposed to be a Big Deal. But, if it only counts for primary season, not the general election, this is meaningless, even if someone decides to run against Trump, because Trump will still be the GOP contender. It’s a little detail that most of the Useful Democratic Idiots will miss, thinking that this will block Trump from being on the 2020 ballot when it does no such thing. It’s a feel good measure.

Eighteen other states have legislation similar to California’s, but none has become law, according to a database tracked by the National Conference of State Legislatures. California, the most populous state, has more than 24 million eligible voters.

“Presidential candidates need to put their own interests aside in the name of transparency,” bill author, state Sen. Mike McGuire (D), said in a statement. “So far, our current president has done the opposite. It’s time that President Trump steps up, stops with the obstruction, and follows through with 40 years of time-honored tradition that has made this nation’s democracy stronger.”

McGuire is confident the law would withstand a legal challenge, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Here’s a question: why even challenge this in court, when it means nothing to Trump? Perhaps for future candidates who need to be on the primary ballot, but not Trump. It is very dubiously Constitutional, since, even though this would be a state level vote, the Federal Constitution lays out the qualifications to be President, and it doesn’t specify the difference between a primary or general election.

But, Democrats just can’t help themselves, and, at this point, Trump is surely refusing to show his taxes just to drive Democrats nuttier.

We Need A Non-Proliferation Treaty For Fossil Fuels Or Something

Remember, these same people attempting to force Everyone Else to give up their fossil fuels per government decree mostly refuse to voluntarily give up their own. The article even features a pithy picture of a nuclear detonation!

Why we need a non-proliferation treaty for fossil fuels

The burning of fossil fuels is the primary cause of the current climate crisis. And yet the Paris Agreement, the landmark accord which is meant to keep the world from passing warming of 1.5C, does not even mention them.

We need a new approach which puts front and centre the increasingly obvious need to fairly leave the majority of fossil fuel reserves in the ground.

(blah blah blah, typical Warmist claptrap)

In a paper in Climate Policy, we make the case for a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty (NPT). Taking its cue from the non-proliferation treaty for nuclear weapons concluded after just three years in 1968, a fossil fuel version could have three pillars.

These parallel those of the nuclear NPT: non-proliferation (an agreement not to exploit new reserves), disarmament (the managed decline of existing fossil fuel infrastructure) and peaceful use (the financing of low carbon alternatives through a global transition fund). (snip)

These are actions which national governments could list as part of their climate commitments under the Paris Agreement to raise the level of ambition.

See, the only way to make this happen is by Government force. Funny how that always seems to be the solution, eh?

Congressional Black Caucus Furious That Justice Democrats Targeting Black Lawmakers

As I’m sure you’ve read, Nancy Pelosi is in a bit of a spat with AOC and the other 3 members of her Brat Pack, with AOC firing back at one point about  “the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.” Some other Democrats are coming back swinging at the Brat Pack, and then there’s this

CBC lawmakers rip Justice Democrats for targeting black lawmakers for primaries

Congressional Black Caucus members are furious at Justice Democrats, accusing the outside progressive group aligned with firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) of trying to oust lawmakers of color, specifically African-American lawmakers.

Justice Democrats is backing primary challengers to eight-term Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), a Hispanic Caucus member, and 10-term Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). The insurgent group also made noise this year about challenging Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), a CBC member seen as the heir apparent to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

And CBC leaders are fretting that Justice Democrats may target other black lawmakers in the coming weeks and months, including Reps. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.), Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), Emanual Cleaver (D-Mo.) and Anthony Brown (D-Md.). Brown said the group has been making calls in his district, actively trying to recruit a challenger to run against him.

“It just seems strange that the social Democrats seem to be targeting members of the Congressional Black Caucus, individuals who have stood and fought to make sure that African Americans are included and part of this process,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), a senior CBC member, told The Hill.

“I don’t know what that agenda is, but if they want to come after members of the Black Caucus, it’s two ways,” warned Meeks, the Queens Democratic party boss who clashed with Justice Democrats in a local district attorney race last month.

Now, in fairness, some of the challengers are Black, but, this sure seems to be an attempt to, using their language, silence the voices of Blacks who have done great work for the community.

Some Democrats are hoping that Ocasio-Cortez, the rabble-rousing freshman with 4.7 million Twitter followers, gets a primary challenge herself in 2020.

You can almost be this will happen. Polls in NY14 shows that only 13% of the people in that district want her re-elected. Personally, I hope she sticks around, along with the rest of her America hating pack, because this just hurts the Democrats.

Surprise: AOC’s Chief Of Staff Admits Green New Deal Not About ‘Climate Change’

Who’s surprised? Anyone?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Chief of Staff Admits: Green New Deal About Socialism, Not Climate

Saikat Chakrabarti, the chief of staff and former campaign mastermind for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), reportedly admitted that the “Green New Deal” was not originally about climate change, but changing the economy.

That claim comes from Sam Ricketts, who directs climate change policy for for Washington Governor Jay Inslee, one of the two dozen candidates for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Ricketts met with Chakrabarti this spring to make acquaintances after Ocasio-Cortez called Inslee’s climate change plan the “gold standard” in policy.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday:

Chakrabarti had an unexpected disclosure. “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal,” he said, “is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all.” Ricketts greeted this startling notion with an attentive poker face. “Do you guys think of it as a climate thing?” Chakrabarti continued. “Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”

Now, you might be thinking that this was Ricketts making it up or getting the quotes wrong, but, in fact, the Washington Post’s David Montgomery was there during that meeting, and was recording it all. This is all exactly as we’ve said: using ‘climate change’ as a front to change everything to Modern Socialism.

ACLU Sues To Stop ICE Raids On Illegals Ordered Deported By Judges

Are we at the 100% proof positive point where Democrats just need to stop with their talking point that they only want to keep the good illegals? That they respect the rule of law?

ACLU Files Lawsuit To Stop ICE Raids On Sunday That Would Target Migrants

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Thursday calling for the cancellation of raids reportedly planned by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) that would take into custody thousands of undocumented migrants.

The lawsuit, filed in district court for the Southern District of New York, argues that the majority of undocumented immigrants facing arrest have not been given proper notice to appear before legal proceedings to make their case for seeking asylum.

“Even when the government sent notices to the right address for a real hearing, it repeatedly sent them too late, for locations unreasonably far from immigrants’ homes,” the lawsuit says. “Notices thus arrived either after the date set for a hearing or just a few days before, requiring indigent families to immediately travel across the country to hearings in distant states.”

Defendants in the lawsuit include acting ICE director Mark Morgan and U.S. Attorney General William Barr.

The raids are expected to take place in at least 10 cities “over multiple days,” The New York Times first reported. The crackdown would come a few weeks after President Donald Trump tweeted about raids that he later delayed.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement Thursday that she would “stand up against any threatened incursions on our state’s civil rights because, in America, we value our immigrants.”

Good grief. The majority, if not all, who are on ICE’s targeting table have been through the entire immigration process and ordered to leave the U.S. or be deported. Seriously, the system is generally nice enough that the illegals are not taken into custody immediately and deported in so many cases, giving them time to wrap up their affairs. These illegals have been given more than enough notice. And then there’s NY AG James, who thinks we respect illegal aliens. That’s because she’s isolated in the Liberal Bubble, rather than reality, and, further, doesn’t seem to want the law enforced on illegals. I bet she goes hardcore on people engaged in lawful ownership of firearms, though, eh?

Attorney Brad Philipps, whose Los Angeles-based firm is involved in the lawsuit, said raids by ICE would be “inhumane.”

“The Trump administration’s plan to send families and children who came to this country seeking refuge from violence and abuse in their home countries back to those places, without so much as one opportunity to show a judge they are entitled under U.S. law to stay, is fundamentally at odds with what this nation stands for,” Philipps said in a statement. “We hope by this lawsuit to stop the administration’s unjust and inhumane plan in its tracks.”

See, this is where they brazenly lie. Even when they pick up some non-targeted illegals as collateral, they will still get their day in court. People like Philipps know that the Open Borders advocates are dumb enough to believe things like his statement, despite, again, all the targeted illegals having exhausted their legal methods and ordered deported by federal immigration judges.

Chicago Mayor Permanently Bans ICE From Accessing Police Databases Ahead Of Raids

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Wednesday that her city has permanently banned U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from accessing the Chicago Police Department’s databases ahead of looming ICE raids to detain undocumented immigrants.

Chicago police “will not team up with ICE to detain any resident,” the mayor said after meeting with business leaders and immigration rights advocates at Lurie Children’s Hospital. “They’re not going to be facilitating or otherwise providing any assistance in any raids ― whether it’s traffic stops [or] additional support. … We have also cut off ICE from any access from any CPD databases and that will remain permanent.”

Remember, we aren’t supposed to call them open borders.

Again, they have been ordered deported by federal judges. Omar sure seems like she’s endorsing Open Borders, eh?

New Prognostication: London To Be As Warm As Barcelona In 30 Years

Another day, another prognostication of Doom

By 2050, London’s climate will be as warm as Barcelona’s, says new study

In 2050, London’s climate will feel more like Barcelona’s, according to a new climate change study.

If this sounds like a pleasant warming — think again. London could be facing severe drought, as Barcelona did in 2008, when it nearly ran out of drinking water and reservoirs ran close to dry.

Hundreds of other major cities worldwide could be facing droughts, flooding, storms, and other climate catastrophes, said the study, which was conducted by the Crowther Lab at ETH Zurich university.

Some of these climate effects aren’t even known or predictable yet — a fifth of cities, including Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Singapore, are facing conditions so extreme they don’t currently exist anywhere in the world, according to the study.

The study predicted the future climate conditions of 520 major cities worldwide, and pairedthose predictions with the conditions of cities today. By 2050, Madrid will feel more like Marrakesh, Seattle will feel like San Francisco, and New York will feel like Virginia Beach, according to the report.

OK, so focusing on London, they claim that the average temperature will be up by 2.1C, which is 3.8F, despite global temperatures only having gone up 1.5F since 1850.

But, if we look at the graphs, Barcelona is anywhere from 8F to 13F higher daily by month for highs than London. So, they’re saying that it’s going to average 84F in July by 2050. Good luck with that.
