District 9 – The Review

3 simple words: Go. See. It.

If you like science fiction, this is simply an awesome movie, somewhat in the vein of Alien Nation, with the aliens being located in South Africa, though the premise surrounds a man who works for an agency that controls the aliens. But, during a big relocation project he ends up…….. Nope, you have to see it.

The aliens are believable, the plot is believable, the action scenes are excellent and believable, the sets are great, and they do not go overboard with the CGI and everything else. Cool ending. There is quite a bit of “handy cam” and shaky cam, so, if you do not like that, you might have issues, but, it is not over-done, and makes the film.

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them.

I’ll give it a solid A minus. Most definitely worth seeing in the theater.
