Fatwa! Against Bin Laden no less

Nice to see that some in Spain get it:

Muslim clerics in Spain issued what they called the world’s first fatwa, or Islamic edict, against Osama bin Laden on Thursday, the first anniversary of the Madrid train bombings, calling him an apostate and urging others of their faith to denounce the al Qaeda leader.

The ruling was issued by the Islamic Commission of Spain, the main body representing the country’s 1 million-member Muslim community. The commission represents 200 or so mostly Sunni mosques, or about 70 percent of all mosques in Spain.

All I can say is "WOW!"

Yeee-ah I thought it was wonderful that the Spainards were finally getting the idea.

But it did peeve me ONCE AGAIN, that even though President Bush made a concerted effort in the days after 9/11 to reach out to American Muslims (and I should add, in the years since) …

NO AMERICAN MUSLIM GROUP HAS COME OUT STRONGLY AND PUBLICLY AGAINST ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISTS AND THEIR ACTS OF TERRORISM.

Gee, where are they? ? ? ? ? ? Maybe they’d like to turn in their visas, green cards, citizenship, and go to a place where their beliefs are valued…um, um, um,

running out of choices as democracy spreads…um, OK, they can still go to Syria!

  2. I am hoping that it will be a wake up call for Muslim leaders in the USA and other countries. Not expecting much, though.

And it only took them a year…

Well, at least they did do it, so as Maggie points out, it is quite a bit more than Muslims in America… and that does tend to point out what Muslims in America think about Osama, whether they admit it or not.
