Absurdity Extreme

The woman who admits she ran down a man on Interstate 40 took the stand Wednesday in the case against a friend who tried to cover for her.

Rabah Samara faces felony and misdemeanor hit-and-run charges for his role in the death of Stephen Gates. Gates was changing a flat tire on Interstate 40 on Oct. 4, 2003, when he was hit by a Cadillac Escalade.

Prosecutors said Emily Caveness was behind the wheel, but switched seats with Samara, who drove off. Caveness worked a deal with prosecutors. In August, she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for failing to report an accident in exchange for her testimony.

Let me get this straight. She ran someone over (by accident), admitted it, switched seats with a friend, and gets charged with a misdemeaner? Is it any wonder people do not think the legal system is broken?

Aye. This IS how the system works. A plea bargin always beats an actual prosecution — over and over again. Why? Because the government refuses to do their actual job of funding the police and courts, because they’re spending too much money on social programs and education.

let me set all of you straight on this subject. I personally know these people, and I know the man who is being charged quite well. he forced her out of the driver’s seat so he could flee,b/c he is a coward. the woman and other two people in the car begged him to stop but he would not. the witnesses at the scene yelled at him to stop, and still he did not. like I said, I know him personally, and he is worthless excuse for a person. trust me, he is at fault.

  3. Good info, Ravenwolf. Don’t misunderstand me, Samara should be going to jail for a long time. I just do not think that Ms. Caveness should get off so lightly, as it was her that hit Stephen Gates.

true, emily should get some form of punishment. we should know fairly soon, hopefully. she is a weak willed person unfortunatly, a very nice person, but easily led by others.
