Kirstin Powers: Sarahcuda Should Blow Off The Press

What is the world coming to when KP and I agree?

Palin’s lack of availability is more extreme, but until reporters show that they want to do an objective interview with no agenda, the McCain camp is within its rights to limit access

Which is a problem. Running for office is now like being a game-show contestant: Can you navigate the series of booby-trapped events set up by people experienced at focusing on the silly? Rather than trying to elicit information that will help voters discern if the candidate will be a good president (or veep), the press focuses on coaxing the candidate they don’t like into saying something that will eliminate him or her from the game.

What ever the McCain campaign’s motives are I really do think this is hurting her. There are only a few more weeks until the election. I know very little about Sarah Palin and I would like to know more. Seeing how she handles unscripted moments with reporters would help. Instead, this is what the campaign is doing:

From the pool report account of what happened after McCain and Palin’s meeting with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvilli and Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko:

McCain then looked around the room and gestured as if to welcome questions. The AP reporter shouted a question at Gov. Palin (“Governor, what have you learned from your meetings?”) but McCain aide Brooke Buchanan intervened and shepherded everybody out of the room.

Palin looked surprised, leaned over to McCain and asked him a question, to which your pooler thinks he shook his head as if to say “No.”

Let’s see: the media has been mostly negative and insulting towards Palin AND her family, and, on the flip side, has not done due diligence on Obama and Biden. Hmm, what kind of information will you get out of them, Silke? Something like

Palin looked surprised, leaned over to McCain and asked him a question, to which your pooler thinks he shook his head as if to say “No.”

Inserting bias in there, eh? The pooler thinks. Not much definitive there, just a personal assumption.
