“This Event is held in Peaceful Protest of Injustice and Inequality Everywhere. — Ace Speedway.” https://t.co/Fw3GCtBlu1
— Durham Herald-Sun (@TheHerald_Sun) June 7, 2020
From the incredibly leftist Durham Herald Sun, which doesn’t seem happy
Racing took place on Saturday night at Ace Speedway in Alamance County, with at least a couple of thousand fans in attendance.
On Friday, Sheriff Terry Johnson said his officers would be there to enforce Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order that limits outdoor gatherings to 25 people as part of the state’s efforts to combat the coronavirus. Johnson made it clear he did not agree with the order.
It does not look like that happened, though, as a reporter from a Gannett newspaper who was on the scene said there were at least 2,000 people in the stands. (snip)
“This sign is outside of Ace Speedway tonight,†Ferguson tweeted on Saturday from the track. “Governor Roy Cooper urged Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson to enforce his executive order in phase 2, which said no more than 25 people can gather. Ace Speedway said tonight’s race is a peaceful protest.â€
Saturday marked the speedway’s third racing night of the season, and second since drawing a rebuke from Cooper.
This is the same Governor Cooper who marched with protesters last Monday, not following social distancing protocols, and said nary a word about hundreds and hundreds gathered together to protest. The gov wants it both ways.
See, there are still a few articles about Hotcoldwetdry which bring in Coronavirus, particularly when discussing economic recovery, but, the climate cultists are mostly now moving on from Bat Soup Virus and attempting to hijack Black Lives Matter
Last week, my family and I attended an interfaith rally in Los Angeles in defense of Black life. We performed a group ritual in which we made noise for nine minutes to mark the last moments of George Floyd’s life. My wife, my oldest daughter, and I played African drums to mark those nine minutes with the rhythm of a beating heart. Da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, over and over again.
While we drummed, I realized how difficult it is to keep up any physical activity for nine minutes straight. Most of us can’t even sit completely still on our butts for nine minutes; if you’ve ever meditated, you understand why they refer to sitting as practice.
As I struggled to maintain my posture and keep up the rhythm, I thought about the level of commitment it takes to hold someone down for nine minutes straight. The realization horrified me. The cop who has been charged with murdering George Floyd had to have been deeply committed to taking his life. The police officer had so many chances to let up the pressure, to let George live. Yet the officer made the choice not to.
To spend nine minutes taking the life-breath from another person: That is what white supremacy does to white people. That is what white supremacy does to the rest of us too. White supremacy robs each of us of our humanity. It causes white people to view Black people as less than human. Every one of those cops watching George die was convinced that the man pinned to the ground was less than human, was in some way disposable.
Here’s one question: how do we know Chauvin is a white supremacist, and not just a murderous asshole? Another question would be “why do things like this mostly happen in areas run by Democrats?” And yet another would be “what is your plan to deal with this other than drumming for 9 minutes?” Oh, and, how about “why is the Sierra Club so overwhelmingly white in their employment and the people who support them? Hop Hopkins, who writes this article, is one of the very, very few black voices working for the Sierra Club
An idea—a long-overdue realization—is growing in the environmental movement. It goes something like this: “We’ll never stop climate change without ending white supremacy.†This argument has entered the outdoor recreation and conservation space thanks to the leadership of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color in the climate justice movement. The idea has taken on new force as folks in the mainstream environmental movement do our best to show up for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and all the Black people still living and subject to police violence.
I know that a lot of people are struggling with the thought that addressing the environmental crises must involve dismantling white supremacy. At Sierra Club meetings, some people hear me say something like that and think, “Damn, fighting climate change wasn’t hard enough already? Now we have to end racism and white supremacy too? Seriously, man?†(snip)
Here’s why: You can’t have climate change without sacrifice zones, and you can’t have sacrifice zones without disposable people, and you can’t have disposable people without racism.(snip)
In order to treat places and resources as disposable, the people who live there have to get treated like rubbish too. Sacrifice zones imply sacrificed people. Just think of Cancer Alley in Louisiana. Most of the towns there are majority Black, and nowadays they call it Death Alley, because so many Black folks have died from the poison that drives our extractive economy. Or think of the situation in the Navajo Nation, where uranium mines poisoned the wells and the groundwater and coal plants for decades poisoned the air. Or consider the South Side of Chicago, where I used to live, which for years was a dumping ground of petroleum coke (a fossil fuel byproduct) and where residents are still struggling against pollution-related diseases. I’ve lived in a lot of places, and just about every place I’ve ever lived has been targeted by big polluters as a dumping ground.
You know what the weird thing is? The vast majority of these “disposable zones” are in areas run by the Democratic Party. It’s almost like the party of the KKK and Jim Crow, who was a lot against the Civil Rights Act, has switched to patronizing blacks with free money and crappy affordable housing (paid by government) and all sorts of stuff to get their vote but really think of them as disposable, and it’s easier to control black people if you keep lots in areas that are “disposable”.
If all of this seems too neat a narrative, I’d ask if you remember Hurricane Katrina. In the aftermath of the storm, Black people who were just out looking for essential supplies were described by the news media as “looting†a grocery store. White people who were doing the same thing were described as “finding†bread and water. I’d ask if you remember Eric Garner and Dylan Roof. Eric Garner was choked to death by police for selling “loosies,†or single cigarettes. Dylan Roof murdered nine Black people during a Bible study group at their church; after being arrested, the police bought him a meal at a Burger King on the way to the police station.
Can someone explain to Hop which political party most of the media votes for and covers for and uses their talking points?
All I know is that if climate change and environmental injustice are the result of a society that values some lives and not others, then none of us are safe from pollution until all of us are safe from pollution. Dirty air doesn’t stop at the county line, and carbon pollution doesn’t respect national borders. As long as we keep letting the polluters sacrifice Black and brown communities, we can’t protect our shared global climate.
It’s a very long screed, long on whines, short on offering any solutions. But, I’ll give it an A for effort for attempting to hijack the George Floyd movement, which will cause lots of people to tune out to the notion that there really does need to be some reform in law enforcement, from the FBI to state, county, and local police.

See, when they told us that they wanted to defund the police, they really didn’t mean they wanted to actually to defund the police, just to reduce their budgets by large amounts, right? No more precincts in black communities, right?
Minneapolis City Council announces veto-proof push to disband police in George Floyd aftermath
Minneapolis’ left-leaning City Council members on Sunday announced a veto-proof push to disband the Minneapolis police department, ramping up a major conflict inside the city following the death of George Floyd while in police custody.
Many activists have been pushing at least for their cities to defund local police departments, a move many other analysts considered unrealistic. The measure has been the main focus for many people protesting against police brutality.
Supporters of the move told Fox News, “We recognize that we don’t have all the answers about what a police-free future looks like, but our community does. We’re committing to engaging with every willing community member in the city of Minneapolis over the next year to identify what safety looks like for you.â€
The city council members spoke at a protest at Powderhorn Park, a neighborhood in Minneapolis. The number of supporters in attendance represented a veto-proof majority to push the measure through, Fox 9 reported.
See, not defund, dismantle. They have absolutely no plan as to what happens without a police department, what replaces it, who deals with crime, anything, but, they’re charging full ahead. It’d be funny as hell if every officer up and quit, went to work elsewhere. Let’s see how much city council members like calling 911 and having a social worker come by to give them a hug and a lecture on their privilege.
Meanwhile, the major of Minneapolis, and utter simp, is against the plan
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Sunday reiterated that he doesn’t support abolishing the city’s police force, hours after a veto-proof majority of members of the Minneapolis City Council said they want to take that drastic step in the wake of the in-custody death of George Floyd.
Frey, who ordered a police station to evacuate as rioters burned it to the ground last month, was shouted down by a large gathering of demonstrators near his home on Saturday when he defied their demands to shutter the city’s police forces entirely.
“I’ll work relentlessly with Chief [Medaria] Arradondo and alongside community toward deep, structural reform and addressing systemic racism in police culture,” Frey said in a statement to KARE. “We’re ready to dig in and enact more community-led, public safety strategies on behalf of our city. But, I do not support abolishing the Minneapolis Police Department.”
Frey is about to learn all about the SJW virtue signaling cancel culture mob made up of Democratic Party voters who will come after him. If everything holds to form, they will be calling for his head, wanting to have a recall vote if he won’t resign, wanting their pound of flesh. Good luck mayor! You’re about to get an abject lesson in leftist politics.

NPR Advises Readers to ’Decolonize†Their Bookshelves by Removing White Authors
National Public Radio (NPR) posted a tweet Saturday urging every reader to begin “decolonizing your bookshelf.â€
According to NPR, “white voices have dominated what has been considered canon for eons.†The public broadcaster advises fans to begin “decolonizing your bookshelf†by removing the works of white authors.
In essence, "decolonizing your bookshelf" is about actively resisting and casting aside the colonialist ideas of narrative, storytelling, and literature that have pervaded the American psyche for so long, says @itsjuanlove. https://t.co/pbSBx8Z4So
— NPR (@NPR) June 6, 2020
NPR suggests that “decolonizing your bookshelf†is about “about actively resisting and casting aside the colonialist ideas of narrative, storytelling, and literature that have pervaded the American psyche for so long.â€
They posit:
If you are white, take a moment to examine your bookshelf. What do you see? What books and authors have you allowed to influence your worldview, and how you process the issues of racism and prejudice toward the disenfranchised? Have you considered that, if you identify as white and read only the work of white authors, you are in some ways listening to an extension of your own voice on repeat? While the details and depth of experience may differ, white voices have dominated what has been considered canon for eons.
U, no thanks. I like the books I like. Quite frankly, I don’t even consider the color of the science fiction, horror (especially zombie), and thriller authors I read. If they happen to be white, well, they’re writing stuff I’m interested in.
But, here’s the big thing: this is the kind of crazy that is going to drive people away. Virtually everyone agreed that the killing of George Floyd was a tragedy and a horrible thing and we do need to look at reform for law enforcement (interestingly, Liberals don’t see the need to reform the heavily politicized FBI). Conservatives and Liberals are in agreement that some law enforcement is out of control and we don’t like the militarization of law enforcement. Then we get the riots and looting and vandalism and property destruction and assault. Calls to defund the police. Assaulting and blaming police who had nothing to do with the murder. Mixing in ‘climate change’. Demeaning white people (even though a goodly chunk of police shootings are done by non-white officers). Threats. Mixing in gender confused stuff. And crazy crap like “burning” your books by white authors.
The Atlantic once wrote that Occupy Wall Street wouldn’t work
Any protest that hopes to accomplish some goal needs, well, a goal. If a demonstration like this lacks concrete objectives, then its purpose will be limited at best and nonexistent at worst. At this time, all the protest really appears to stand for is a general dislike of Wall Street. But what does that mean?
BLM has some goals, but, they are being shifted all over the place, and they are black supremacist and even racist to some degree. They are going to isolate themselves just like last time. OWS had their chance, I think most of us agreed that the super rich and big companies had power and the average citizen was ignored by government, then they went loony with all their SJW stuff. People will soon start tuning out from the current issue due to the same over-reach.

Can we stop with all the Coronavirus commercials now, particularly from health companies and featuring health professions? Can we just open up the economy now? Remember when all the health professionals were complaining about how dangerous this all was? Remember when they were complaining about the kids at spring break? How about the reopen protests? Remember when we were told things like
Should #StayAtHome protestors who endanger other Americans by not following @CDCgov guidelines about physical distancing be required to sign a waiver refusing medical attention at a hospital and not take up a ventilator if they contract coronavirus? #COVID19 #StayHome
— AprilDRyan (@AprilDRyan) April 20, 2020
Now, though
A group of health and medical colleagues has penned an open letter to express their concern that protests around the United States could be shut down under the guise of coronavirus health concerns.
The letter — which went on to draw more than 1,200 signatures — focuses on techniques to reduce harm to people protesting racial injustice.
“We created the letter in response to emerging narratives that seemed to malign demonstrations as risky for the public health because of Covid-19,” according to the letter writers, many of whom are part of the University of Washington’s Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
“Instead, we wanted to present a narrative that prioritizes opposition to racism as vital to the public health, including the epidemic response. We believe that the way forward is not to suppress protests in the name of public health but to respond to protesters demands in the name of public health, thereby addressing multiple public health crises.”
Hey, I have zero problem with protests, I’m all for them if people are upset. I’ve written many posts saying that citizens had the right to protest, both from the federal and their state Constitutions, to protest to reopen the nation, and I won’t be hypocritical in saying the folks now shouldn’t. The Constitution doesn’t just apply to stuff you believe in. As long as it stays peaceful.
Of course, we were told that giant gatherings were Bad. That they spread COVID-19. That we couldn’t go to church. That we couldn’t have a party. That we couldn’t travel anywhere. That we couldn’t go outside and garden. That we couldn’t walk the dog with no one near us or be in our front yards or paddle board in the ocean alone with no one within hundreds of yards of us.
The letter focuses on health guidance for protestors and law enforcement, such as wearing masks, advocating to not hold people who are arrested in close proximity and opposing the use of tear gas for health reasons.
Um, what about close proximity for the actual protesters? The first two things we were told was wash your hands and stay 4 dancing penguins, er, 6 feet apart. Aaaaaaaand if they are supporting Constitutional protesting, why would there be arrests or the need for tear gas?
“However, as public health advocates, we do not condemn these gatherings as risky for COVID-19 transmission. We support them as vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of Black people in the United States. We can show that support by facilitating safest protesting practices without detracting from demonstrators’ ability to gather and demand change. This should not be confused with a permissive stance on all gatherings, particularly protests against stay-home orders.”
Remember when it was risky to drive to a second home? Remember when it was risky to do anything but sit at home and the health professionals told you to stay home and got government to create orders that made you sit at home? In their letter, which is published in full at the link, they write
Prepare for an increased number of infections in the days following a protest. Provide increased access to testing and care for people in the affected communities, especially when they or their family members put themselves at risk by attending protests.
Wasn’t the idea to keep people from getting it? So we were told and locked down over, had businesses shuttered, many businesses which will never re-open. People not earning, people out of work.
There are all sorts of Leftists who are creating Narratives why these protests are OK but the others weren’t. The federal and state constitutions are not just for things you approve of.

I know that you’re utterly shocked that climate cultists would hijack current affairs
There Is No Climate Justice Without Defunding the Police
The U.S. has erupted in protests over the brutal killing of George Floyd by police. The protests have largely been peaceful. The police response has not.
Over the past week, widespread police violence has gripped the nation. Police have shot protestors with rubber bullets, tear gassed them, and beat them with batons. Using live bullets, police shot and killed David McAtee, a black chef in Louisville, and left his body in the streets for 12 hours. Armored vehicles and cops in tactical body armor have taken over the streets in response to protests that are specifically about police violence against black communities.
Do we need to discuss the riots, looting, arson, property destruction, murder and attempted murder during the protests? If you’re throwing bottles at police who are just standing there, well, they need tactical body armor. I’ve always thought the police should be allowed to throw anything that was thrown at them back towards the protesters.
There are many very good reasons to defund and demilitarize police forces across the country, including the fact that research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) shows it provides “no detectable benefits in terms of officer safety or violent crime reduction, on average.†But there’s another reason that’s also tied to the disproportionate suffering of black and brown communities. The climate crisis is exacerbating existing inequalities, and a militarized police force will only make those inequalities worse. There’s a better way forward, though, one that prioritizes resilience—taking funding away from the force that is over-policing and racial profiling black communities, and putting that funding into preparing them for a 21st century of dangerous weather driven by the climate crisis.
This screed meanders back and forth, and seems pretty upset at the militarization of the police, all the gear given to police departments from the military (guess what, a lot of Conservatives agree with that), but, climate cultist Brian Khan at Gizmodo is linking this all to ‘climate change’ and climate justice, because, well, it’s a cult.
It’s why stopping the transfer of military-grade equipment to police is a first step to just climate adaptation. It’s why ending bail and asset seizures that needlessly land people in jail is good climate policy. And it’s why the growing number of laws that criminalize protests are bad climate policy and should be rolled back.
See, if cops didn’t have all that gear, climate change wouldn’t happen. And
Beyond that, defunding the police is another key step. A number of groups have been calling for a divest-invest strategy where cities pull money from the police and put it into community programs that actually make those places better (groups are advancing a similar policy for fossil fuels). In the context of climate change, that could include everything from improving access to healthcare, transit, and open streets. Ultimately, how that money is spent is a decision that’s best left to communities themselves.

You really do need to take time to read the entire thing. It’s nuttier than the norm.
