As Supreme Court considers end to DACA, some Dreamers are already leaving US behind

Born in South Korea but raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Eun Suk “Jason” Hong seemed on the cusp of another American success story when he graduated from college in 2015.

Hong, whose mother brought him to the U.S. at age 10, landed a job as a financial planner and was looking forward to starting a career.

But in 2017, President Donald Trump moved to do away with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the program that allowed him to work legally in the U.S., and Hong’s outlook began to change. In August, he quit his job and moved to Spain to seek a master’s degree in business administration.

He’s now barred for a decade from returning to the country where he grew up. But he’s also left behind the anxiety of America’s immigration wars.

Hong is among the “Dreamers” – undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children – who are leaving their adopted home in frustration. With the Supreme Court poised to rule on DACA’s future by June, some are taking matters into their own hands and moving to Europe, Mexico and Canada.

Well, bye. Better not get caught in Mexico illegally. Their laws are pretty strict, and they could quickly end up in jail.

When Trump announced his plan to terminate the DACA program in September 2017, there were 689,800 active DACA recipients. That’s declined by more than 40,000, to 649,070, according to the latest figures on the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services website.

Trump says the Obama-era initiative is unconstitutional, but his move to phase out the program has been blocked by legal challenges. The Supreme Court is expected to announce sometime before the end of June whether the president has the authority to end DACA.

Obama himself said it was un-Constitutional to enact DACA, that he had no legal authority. Any president has the power to rescind any previous executive order. That’s the way it works. We can easily see this being a split decision, with the liberals voting against Trump. They should remember that they would be ruling that no future president can cancel any Trump EO.

While one “study” claims each Dreamer generates $70,000 a year to the U.S. economy, another shows

Supporters of policies to limit immigration say undocumented immigrants cost taxpayers money, pointing to research that shows they consume more in public services than they pay for with taxes.

“Fewer than 50% of DACA beneficiaries have a high school diploma. An even smaller number have a college education,” said Matt O’Brien, director of research for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, citing the group’s own studies. “And only a tiny proportion have professional qualifications or other highly marketable skills. So it’s far from clear that any of the so-called ‘Dreamers’ have exerted any positive effect on the U.S. economy as a result of their education or job training.”

A majority of Dreamers occupy entry-level or low wage jobs in construction, food service and maintenance industries, and that means that they are in direct competition with “economically vulnerable Americans,” he said.

How many times do you read something like this?

It’s a decision that Itzel Hernandez, 26,  of Red Bank, New Jersey, has pondered too. A community organizer for the American Friends Service Committee, she was born in Mexico but moved north when she was 10. Now, she’s thinking about pursuing a master’s degree, possibly in Germany, where it’s more affordable.

Community organizer. Not really an area that earns much money, just someone who Demands things. Loudly. Perhaps if Dreamers weren’t so demanding, some sort of accommodation could have been reached. They demand healthcare, education, food, housing, money, the vote, and citizenship. If they want to leave, well, bye. The only people they should be blaming are their parents, who knowingly brought them here illegally.

Celebs Who Already Got Theirs Do Not Want World To “Return To Normal”

Pointless Celebrities Call For World To ‘Not Return To Normal’; ‘Radical Transformation’ Of Economies

Millionaire celebrities, who still do not seem to realise that the world does not revolve around them, have rallied behind a call to ‘end consumerism’ and not to allow the world to go back to how it was before the virus outbreak.

Over 200 famous people have signed a ‘plea’ titled Please, let’s not go back to normal, that calls for ‘radical transformation’ of economies and for humanity to ‘examine what is essential’.

Those who have added their names to the proposal include Madonna, Robert de Niro, Cate Blanchett, Jane Fonda, Marion Cotillard and Monica Bellucci.

Of course, most of these vacuous pointless idiots would not have the wealth, or the platform they are now using to lecture everyday people if they followed their own advice.

“We believe it is unthinkable to “go back to normal”, the letter notes, adding “Adjustments are not enough. The problem is systemic.”

“The ongoing ecological catastrophe is a meta-crisis. Unlike a pandemic… a global ecological collapse will have immeasurable consequences,” it continues.

Of course they are including Hotcoldwetdry in this, despite their own vast usage of fossil fuels to travel around, their megamansions, etc and so on.

“The pursuit of consumerism and an obsession with productivity have led us to deny the value of life itself: that of plants, that of animals, and that of a great number of human beings,” the letter also states.

Will these people follow their own decrees? Or Will they continue to rake in millions every month, jetting around the globe, living between multiple mansions, while pointing the finger at the rest of the planet and declaring that it is our “consumerism” and excessive lifestyles that have “brought the world to a breaking point.”

Of course they won’t. Tell you what: no one go to their movies, buy their records, etc, because they do not want consumerism, right?

Media Tries To Play Gotcha With Trump Press Secretary, She Utterly Owns Them

Some in the media were upset that Kayleigh McEnany had comments prepared on the subject, but, really, the press is utterly predictable

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany Is Asked Why She Downplayed Coronavirus Threat — And She Tries To Turn The Tables On The Media

In her second official briefing before the White House press corps, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany was asked about a comment she made in Feb. 25 on Fox Business Channel, in which she said that because of President Donald Trump, “we will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here.”

At the time, McEnany was working for the Trump campaign as national press secretary.

On Wednesday, Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason asked her whether she would take the comment back, given what has happened since then.

But McEnany tried to turn the tables on the media, suggesting that a number of outlets also downplayed the threat of the coronavirus.

“I was asked a question on Fox Business about the president’s travel restrictions,” she said. “I noted what was the intent behind those travel restrictions, which is, we will not see coronavirus come here. We will not see terrorism come here, referring to an earlier set of travel restrictions.”

She added, “I guess I would turn the question back on the media, and ask similar questions. Does Vox want to take back that they proclaimed the coronavirus would not be a deadly pandemic? Does The Washington Post want to take back that they told Americans to get a grip, the flu is bigger than the coronavirus. Does The Washington Post likewise want to take back that our brains are causing us to exaggerate the threat of the coronavirus. Does The New York Times want to take back that fear of the virus may be spreading faster than the virus itself. Does NPR want to take back that the flu was a much bigger threat than the coronavirus? And finally, once again The Washington Post, would they like to take back that the government should not respond aggressively to the coronavirus.” She then wrapped up the briefing and left.

‘Very unusual’: Arctic air set to hit Eastern US with record-low temperatures for May

A cold spell is set to hit the Eastern U.S. in the upcoming days, bringing along record-low temperatures and frost and snowfall to some Northeast states.

Abnormally frigid temperatures for May will be brought down from the Arctic following a much warmer-than-normal January through March this year.

Temperatures will be especially extreme to the east of the Rockies and over the Great Lakes and Northeast, as temperatures over the weekend could drop 20 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit below normal highs.

The expected blast of frigid air in May is “one of the coldest modified polar air masses on record so late in the season,” according to Michael Palmer, a meteorologist at the Weather Company.

The frigid air traveling in from the Arctic is likely related to the breaking up of the spring polar vortex, a low-pressure expanse of cold air that sits in polar regions. When the vortex breaks, cold air escapes along the jet stream and brings low temperatures to the U.S.

You know what’s to blame, right?

Emerging research posits a link between the warming Arctic and more extreme weather in the middle latitudes, as scientists debate whether as the Arctic warms up faster than the middle latitudes of the Earth, it can cause displacement of the region’s cold air to the south. Periods of a weaker polar vortex in the winter months have increased over the past 37 years, according to a 2018 study.

Extreme weather is code for anthropogenic climate change.

“The cold is very unusual,” said Ryan Maue, a meteorologist at BAM Weather.

“It is difficult to pinpoint the cause-and-effect or correlation-causation with extreme weather events and climate change,” he said. “But changes in the behavior of the jet stream are becoming more accepted by scientists looking for physical reasoning behind what we are seeing on weather maps.”

Maue called the extended cold period a “climate change triple whammy” as the drop in temperatures will limit agricultural production, keep people inside with central heating and provide a more favorable outside environment for the coronavirus spread.

I bet you had a double cheeseburger last week, didn’t you? And ate it with the engine running in your fossil fueled vehicle, right?

“This is not just some random one-off weather event but an obvious trend toward hyper-extreme atmospheric circulations outside the normal bounds of what we typically experience in May,” Maue said. “It’s not always hotter and dryer with rapid climate change, but also colder and wetter.”

Snow is also expected to fall in parts of interior New England over the weekend, with some residents of Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, northern Vermont and parts of Maine already reporting snowfall.

See? Heat trapping greenhouse gases make it so hot that it gets cold, wet, and dry! Nope, definitely not a cult.

Surprise: Russia Probe Transcripts Show Zero Collusion

Sources say Russia probe transcripts affirm officials came up empty on collusion: ‘Schiff is in panic mode’

Transcripts of House Intelligence Committee interviews that have been cleared for release show top law enforcement and intelligence officials affirming they had no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election, senior administration and intelligence community officials told Fox News on Wednesday.

This would align with the results of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation — which found no evidence of illegal or criminal coordination between President Trump, the Trump campaign and Russia in 2016 — but the numerous transcribed interviews could raise further questions about committee Chairman Adam Schiff’s past statements saying that there was “direct evidence” of collusion.

“Schiff is in panic mode,” a senior administration official told Fox News.

Earlier this week, House Republicans sought over 6,000 pages of transcripts pertaining to interviews conducted by the committee in 2017 and 2018, after the panel in September 2018 voted on a bipartisan basis to approve their public release.

A day later, acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell notified Schiff, D-Calif., that the redaction and declassification process was complete, and that the records were ready for release, putting the ball in Schiff’s court.

So, right now, we are waiting for the documents to be released, and Schiff and the rest of the Democrats are unhappy about it, because their Quixotic quest on RRR was an utter failure, that it was a bunch of mule fritters from the start, and it will just show that they knew it, and all they were trying to do was overturn the 2016 election.

Another source familiar with the transcripts told Fox News that the people interviewed by the House Intelligence Committee during its Russia probe were asked whether they had evidence that Trump, himself, or the Trump campaign conspired, colluded or coordinated with Russia during the 2016 election.

Two sources familiar with the transcripts told Fox News that not one of the 53 witnesses could provide evidence of collusion.

“The transcripts show a total lack of evidence, despite Schiff personally going out saying he had more than circumstantial evidence that there was collusion,” one source involved in House Russia investigations told Fox News.

I wonder what Schiff and the rest of the Democrats will come up with when Trump wins re-election in November?

Bummer: The Video Game Industry Is Impacting ‘Climate Change’

Considering how many young folks are believers in the climate change scam and play video games, I’m not sure blaming their favorite past-time is a good idea. Seriously, do you think they’re going to give them up, much like when the Cult of Climastrology was linking streaming movies and shows?

Video games might not appear inextricably tied to the climate crisis, but they are. There’s the electricity use of gaming devices themselves, estimated to sit at 34 terawatt-hours of energy each year, or the equivalent of 5 million cars. Once you start unraveling where else the industry intersects with environmental issues, it can be difficult to stop — from the petroleum-based substances the hardware is made of, the workers mining raw materials in already sweltering conditions, to the millions of air miles underpinning business deals. Even just a cursory peek into the future shows the internet infrastructure games are reliant upon might be submerged by rising sea levels. As the crisis rolls on, game makers are beginning to give serious thought to how they might reduce their industry’s contributions to the crisis.

OK, so, add video games to the list of things the kiddies are now supposed to give up if they truly Believe. They won’t. We all know that.

But waiting for environmental responsibility to become a promotional checkbox implies that the climate crisis might be averted through existing economic structures. It’s worth remembering that hardware manufacturers continue to operate within a framework of planned obsolescence. “It’s great that they’re getting producer and manufacturer buy-in because oftentimes a lot of the environmental rhetoric is focused on the individual level,” says Alenda Y. Chang, professor of film and media studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and author of Playing Nature: Ecology in Video Games. “But there’s no questioning of having to replace your PlayStation every few years.” In the immediate future, Sony and Microsoft will release their respective new consoles, each of which is underpinned by eye-watering technical specifications whose environmental impacts are far from clear.

Up, that’s not ‘climate change’, that is environmentalism, where things are designed to die and/or be replaced in short order, leading to landfills chock full of antiquated stuff that is like 2-3 years old. I have a washer and dryer I purchased in 1995, still work fine. A stereo from 1987. I bet some of my old cell phones would still work (if I had chargers and if would even connect anymore). Things used to be made to last. Lithium Ion batteries were supposed to last 20 years. Now you’re lucky if you get 2 years.

Ultimately, nature doesn’t care whether we’re playing thoughtful ecological adventures or the next high-tech military shooter. There are more concrete areas game makers can focus their efforts, like switching to renewable energy and considering the performance intensity of their games. If studios want to put pressure on industries’ biggest companies, including the hardware manufacturers and major service providers, collective organization might offer not only the best shot at being heard but also of enacting substantive change. As for one potential area of focus, supply chains are still woefully invisible for the most part. Greater transparency might enable a better chance of not only lessening hardware’s environmental impact but also improving the allegedly backbreaking work conditions in developing nations that continue to prop up the industry.

I recommend that any climate cultist who plays games must do so only on renewable energy. Install solar panels or no gaming. Seems fair, right?

Harvard Law Prof: Coronavirus Is an Excuse to Dump Free Speech, Property Rights from Constitution

Harvard Law Professor Adrian Vermeule suggests using the Chinese virus pandemic as an excuse to establish a new interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, implementing policies that do away with concepts such as “free speech ideology” and “property rights.”

Adrian Vermeule, a professor of constitutional law at Harvard Law School, recently wrote a piece for the Atlantic in which he argues that traditional interpretations of the U.S. constitution have “now outlived its utility,” and that it is now time for the government to take a more centralized role in people’s lives.

Vermeule argues that “circumstances have now changed” due to the Chinese virus pandemic, and that it is now possible to imagine “moral” constitutionalism, which he says is not “enslaved to the original meaning of the Constitution,” and is also “liberated” from the narrative of “relentless expansion of individualistic autonomy.”

The professor is advocating for a new interpretation of the U.S. constitution, which he refers to as “common-good constitutionalism.”

“Such an approach,” wrote Vermeule, “should be based on the principles that government helps direct persons, associations, and society generally toward the common good, and that strong rule in the interest of attaining the common good is entirely legitimate.”

Who wants to bet that Prof Vermeule would go Level 10 Apoplectic if Government attempted to limit his 1st Amendment Right to free speech and take his property away? Then we have Charlie Warzel at the NY Times

Open States, Lots of Guns. America Is Paying a Heavy Price for Freedom.

(lots and lots of yammering on gun violence and Coronavirus deaths for lots and lots of paragraphs, we’re skipping to the end)

As in the gun control debate, public opinion, public health and the public good seem poised to lose out to a select set of personal freedoms. But it’s a child’s two-dimensional view of freedom — one where any suggestion of collective duty and responsibility for others become the chains of tyranny.

This idea of freedom is also an excuse to serve one’s self before others and a shield to hide from responsibility. In the gun rights fight, that freedom manifests in firearms falling into unstable hands. During a pandemic, that freedom manifests in rejections of masks, despite evidence to suggest they protect both the wearers and the people around them. It manifests in a rejection of public health by those who don’t believe their actions affect others.

In this narrow worldview, freedom has a price, in the form of an “acceptable” number of human lives lost. It’s a price that will be calculated and then set by a select few. The rest of us merely pay it.

Damned freedom! I recommend the government look to restrict Freedom of the Press, just a threat, and see how the leftist press which doesn’t seem happy that Other People have freedom, reacts. I’m betting, again, Level 10 Apoplexy, denunciations of Fascism and tyranny. And not a shred of self-awareness that they’re fine with taking freedom from Other People, but not themselves.

We Can Kill Two Birds With One Stone On Bat Soup Virus And ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

No, the climate cultists will not give up in attempting to use a worldwide virus that has scared, infected, and killed people, locking them down, losing their businesses, etc, to force their Beliefs on everyone.

COVID And Climate Change: How To Kill Two Birds With One Stone

Investing in a green recovery from COVID-19 will deliver rapid short-term growth and long-term economic gains while also tackling climate change, according to a new study from Oxford University.

Researchers from Oxford’s Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment looked at whether economic stimulus packages in the wake of coronavirus would help or harm progress on measures to limit climate change. They found that, far from impeding growth, investing in green policies and infrastructure would lead to both a robust economic recovery and long-term positive outcomes for society.

In addressing the twin problems of the global downturn and climate change, the authors, who include the Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, wrote: “The recovery packages can either kill these two birds with one stone—setting the global economy on a pathway towards net-zero emissions—or lock us into a fossil system from which it will be nearly impossible to escape.”

Interestingly, the massive investment in “green” stuff during the 2008 economic downturn didn’t really do much, as so many of the companies went out of business, and others couldn’t survive without continuous outside funding and government subsidies (much like the old liberal Air America radio). Your average citizen isn’t spending $10,000 or more on solar panels for their home. They aren’t spending $36,000+ on pure plugins, plugin hybrid sales are dismal, and even hybrid sales are tepid (it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the Honda CRV Hybrid, since its release coincided with the start of Bat Soup).

Why doesn’t Oxford invest their own money into “green” stuff? Have they gotten rid of all their fossil fueled vehicles used to run the school? Erected solar panels and wind turbines all across campus? Why does it always seem that Warmists always want government and others to spend their money, but they never want to spend their own money doing what they recommend?

In their paper, to be published in the Oxford Review of Economic Policy, the researchers surveyed 231 key figures from G20 countries, from central bank officials to economists, about the relative performance of 25 types of stimulus measures. The survey found that experts and officials worldwide believe recovery measures can and should be in line with climate goals, and furthermore that such measures produced better economic outcomes than “business-as-usual” models.

Of course they do. Because implementing more Hotcoldwetdry measures will give government more power. And make it harder for citizens to move around. Let me ask: if this stuff works so well, why has Europe’s economy only been so-so with all their climate policies?

The researchers further found that recovery packages “will reshape the economy for the longer-term, representing life and death decisions about future generations, including through their impact on the climate.” In their final analysis, the authors conclude that green stimulus measures “have better prospects for increasing national wealth, enhancing productive human, social, physical, intangible, and natural capital.”
