The Racial Justice Reckoning Over Sports Team Names Is Spreading

Lots of people, especially many Native Americans, loathe the name of the Washington, D.C., NFL team, the Redskins.

“The origin of that name is rooted in murder and violence and genocide and hate,” says Crystal Echo Hawk, the founder and CEO of the advocacy group IllumiNative. “It’s a dictionary-defined racial slur, full-stop.”

And lots don’t.

Echo Hawk says a 30-year stalemate over the team name suddenly broke when the team’s corporate sponsors demanded a new name, and the team agreed to consider it.

“What changed was the murder of George Floyd,” says Echo Hawk. “And it changed everything in this country.”

What does George Floyd have to do with the name of the Redskins? How did we go from police reform to this?

“I think we’ve reached a point where the Redskins name is now more of a burden than a benefit to the team,” says Mike Lewis, a marketing professor at Emory University.

Lewis says this reckoning — he calls it a “purity spiral” — is just getting started.

“I’ve been looking at this stuff for years and the Redskins has always been sort of the focal point for the controversy,” he says. “The Indians second, the Chiefs probably third. The Braves and the Blackhawks don’t take a lot of heat for whatever reason. But at this point, I think all sorts of team names are now in play.”

The Cleveland Indians have launched a formal name review.

That leaves primarily the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team. The three teams all claim to venerate Native Americans.

Crystal Echo Hawk says the names Braves, Blackhawks and Chiefs are not racial slurs, but they do carry baggage.

If fans of these teams think this will stop, good luck with that.

“It’s the imagery that gets associated with those names. It’s the racist fan behavior. When a fan paints their face red, right? That is blackface. Blackface is wrong. We, I think most people in this country, get that now,” says Echo Hawk.

They’re coming after the tomahawk chop at Braves and Chiefs games. They’re coming after the logos and the names. It won’t stop.

French Political Party Recommends Forcing Companies To Advertise Responsibly For ‘Climate Change’

Funny how climate cultists always go to the well of Governmental control, eh? In case you don’t see it, the party, split from others in the French Parliament, is called “Ecology Democracy Solidarity”. Nothing too Modern Socialist about it, right?

Push to make French advertising a weapon against climate change

Advertising in France may be about to get a lot greener after a bill was tabled in parliament that obliges large companies to use their advertising euros as a force for environmental good.

Putting forward the proposed law, the newly created political group Ecologie, Démocracie et Solidarité (EDS) argued that advertising had the potential to be a “powerful lever” in propelling France’s ecological transition.

The bill aims to give advertising a driving role in the transition towards a greener economy, and to iron out the “incompatibilities” between some ads and France’s green ambitions.

Along with a series of progressive bans on polluting products and services, it suggests the creation of a “responsible advertising” support fund to help retrain professionals working within the advertising sector.

So, not only does EDS want to force companies to advertise in a Specific Manner, but, they will require “re-education camps” for advertising execs.

Group co-president Matthieu Orphelin said the world of advertising needed to undergo a major revolution if it was to play any real role in the fight against climate change.

“Let us be the first country to make advertising work towards a serious goal, to put advertising at the service of the (ecological) transition,” Orphelin told FranceInfo radio.

Why do they need to play a role? Their job is to literally accept commissions from companies to create ads to get people to buy the products and services of companies and such, right? It’s not their job to be good little climate cultists.

EDS estimates that, each year, French companies pour 34 billion euros into the country’s marketing industry – something they say should be redirected towards protecting the environment and preserving resources.

Warmists always want to spend Other People’s money.

NY Times Allows Op-Ed Advocating For The End Of Israel

NYT Publishes Peter Beinart Op-ed Calling for End of Israel

Liberal writer Peter Beinart’s latest oped published in the New York Times Wednesday has sparked outrage among U.S. Jewish leaders for calling for the end of Israel.

The opinion article, entitled “I No Longer Believe in a Jewish State,” calls for Israel to be replaced with a binational, unitary state called “Israel-Palestine.”

“Israel-Palestine can be a Jewish home that is also, equally, a Palestinian home,” writes Beinart in the July 8 piece.

The head of the American Jewish Committee compared Beinart’s remarks to those of late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, who called for a similar “solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a 2001 oped published by the Times.

“NYTimes’ opeds calling for the end of Israel, the tiny sliver of land where Jews exercise sovereignty in their ancestral home: -Muammar Qaddafi, 1/21/09 –Peter Beinart, 7/8/20 Can anyone recall the NYTimes publishing opeds urging the end of any other nation (& UN member)? Hmm,” Harris wrote.

Beinart wrote

Israel has all but made its decision: one country that includes millions of Palestinians who lack basic rights. Now liberal Zionists must make our decision, too. It’s time to abandon the traditional two-state solution and embrace the goal of equal rights for Jews and Palestinians. It’s time to imagine a Jewish home that is not a Jewish state.

Equality could come in the form of one state that includes Israel, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, as writers such as Yousef Munayyer and Edward Said have proposed; or it could be a confederation that allows free movement between two deeply integrated countries. (I discuss these options at greater length in an essay in Jewish Currents). The process of achieving equality would be long and difficult, and would most likely meet resistance from both Palestinian and Jewish hard-liners.

Beinart forgets that it’s Palestinians (and terrorists operating in the name of Palestinians) who keep attacking Israel with bombs and guns and knives and more. Who intentionally attack civilians. And that Palestinians who are Israeli citizens have more rights than most people do in all the other Middle East nations.

What this all is, though, is just Excuse-making for the destruction of Israel, the only Democracy model nation in the ME, and, more importantly, the Jewish homeland, because even non-Israeli Jews like Beinart have been taught to hate Israel and Jews.

We Can’t Solve The Climate Crisis (scam) Unless Black Lives Matter Or Something

I guess this makes sense, since both movements are hardcore Leftist/Marxist (they’re Comrades try an say they aren’t, but, their agenda says they are (also, racist))

We Can’t Solve the Climate Crisis Unless Black Lives Matter

The Black Lives Matter movement is not a distraction from saving the planet. We can’t solve the climate crisis without people of color, but we could probably solve it without racists.

Whether it’s Hurricane Katrina or air pollution, storms and exposure to toxins cause much greater harm to communities of color. (Although, yes, in the longer term, climate change is coming for us all, even if you have a bunker in New Zealand.) So it follows that if we’re thinking about how to become more resilient to the impacts of climate change, we must focus on the people who are actually the most impacted. And we must understand that it is people from their own communities who are best equipped to lead them.

Funny how blacks have such problems in Democratic Party run cities. Aren’t they the BLM Comrades?

I simply don’t see how we win at addressing the climate crisis without elevating Black, and Indigenous, and Latinx, and Asian leaders. Because it is not merely a technical challenge we are facing. It’s not just about solar panels and electric cars. This is about how we implement solutions, how we replicate and scale them; it’s about communities and governments and corporations changing the way they do things–solving the climate crisis is about everything. So we need to find ways that everyone can be a part of this transformation.

What’s missing are the solutions.

If climate organizations fail to prioritize welcoming people of color, the movement will never grow large enough to succeed. Furthermore, people of color are significantly more concerned about climate change than white people are (49% of whites, 57% of Blacks, 69% of Latinx). That’s tens of millions of people of color in the U.S. who could be a major part of the solutions we need if unburdened by white supremacy.

So, wait, climate organizations are racist? Huh.

Let’s include ever more expansive understandings of justice in environmental work. Let’s integrate an understanding of interdependence. Let’s take a holistic approach inspired by ecosystems. Let’s value human diversity as much as we do biodiversity. Let’s think about the world we want to live in, and how we can build it, together.

Huh? Modern Socialist/Marxist duckspeak. Pure babble. BTW, setting buildings and fossil fueled vehicles on fire doesn’t really help the environment, nor their beliefs in carbon pollution, does it? Nor the bonfires in the streets and all the illegal fireworks (remember, the Cult of Climastrology is against both, and has tried to shut down both).

Ford Employees Demand Company Stop Making Police Vehicles

Ford faces internal pressure to end production of police-spec vehicles

A group of Ford employees has reportedly asked company executives to rethink its role in supplying vehicles to law enforcement organizations, making it the first large automotive manufacturer known to be facing internal pressure to change its relationship with American police departments.

The letter, which tipsters revealed to Jalopnik, was reportedly written by a group of employees (approximately 100, per the Detroit Free Press) who are concerned about Ford’s cozy relationship with U.S. law enforcement agencies. It comes in the wake of a message delivered to company employees in early June calling for employees to come forward with suggestions for addressing racial and social injustice. Ford employees have also reportedly raised similar concerns in virtual town halls.  (snip)

Ford supplies the overwhelming majority of police-spec vehicles to American agencies at virtually every level of government. Hackett has reportedly said that Ford executives have no plans to change that. The company has also stressed that The Ford Foundation, which contributes to the Black Lives Matter movement, is not affiliated with the company, despite some recent reports to the contrary. Its philanthropic arm is the Ford Motor Company Fund.

Ford has approximately 190,000 employees. Sounds like these roughly 100 need to find a new company to work for, or, make themselves so high ranking that they can make these changes. If Ford doesn’t make them, they’re just handing all that money over to a competitor. GM would jump at the chance, as would Nissan (Pathfinder). Even Toyota might be interested (probably based on the 4Runner).

“Other employees have since signed onto the letter (though it’s unclear how many) and they want the company to take some kind of action by July 15,” according to Jalopnik, an automotive and transportation news website that first reported the issue. “Our resources can and should be diverted to other forms of first response and public safety,” the employees wrote.

Heck, if the signing employees don’t like this, then they should resign in protest. Oh, right, they won’t give up their cushy union jobs. Usually, it would not be far off base to wonder if Ford will give in, but, there is way too much money at stake to listen to a bunch of whiners whining.

It’s not controversial that the Ford Police Interceptor helps officers do their job. The issues plaguing police credibility have nothing to do with the vehicles they’re driving. In fact, as we imagine the future power of our connected vehicles, smarter Ford vehicles can be used to not only improve officers’ ability to protect and serve, but also provide data that can make police safer and more accountable. Just think, dating back to the Model T, Ford has more than 100 years in serving first responders and that leadership over the decades has been earned by co-developing our purpose-built vehicles and technologies with police and emergency agencies to make our vehicles the number one choice for agencies.

So, those employees can bugger off.

Good News: Wall Street Is To Blame For ‘Climate Change’, Police Brutality, And The Wealth Gap

What Do the Racial Wealth Gap, Police Brutality, and the Climate Crisis Have in Common? Wall Street

In case you missed their tweets and statements, Wall Street wants you to know that it is definitely, without a doubt, very much not racist. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, even took a knee for one particularly well-lit photo opportunity. Yet, peek behind the curtain and it’s clear that white supremacy continues to pull Wall Street’s strings.

Not that this should surprise anyone.

For generations, the slave trade and the financial system operated in a twisted symbiosis. Banks provided loans to white plantation owners to buy black slaves. Plantation owners used slaves as collateral to take out more loans. In southern states, as many as eighty percent of mortgages were taken out using enslaved black people as collateral.

That was hundreds of years ago. The people involved are long dead.

When plantation owners defaulted on their debts, banks would take direct ownership of slaves. JPMorgan Chase has admitted that its forebears owned more than 1,250 enslaved people. It should surprise no one that Wall Street was New York’s first slave market. And banks weren’t the only ones making a killing. Insurance companies like AIG and New York Life sold policies to slave owners guaranteeing pay-outs if their slaves were killed or injured. In all, forty percent of cotton revenue may have ended up in New York.

Sounds like we have to #CancelNYC.

A report by the Action Center on Race and the Economy has highlighted how Wall Street made $891 million in profit from what they call police brutality bonds―high-interest rate loans to cities and counties that cover the costs of police brutality legal settlements.

Um, what of those cities and counties with the claims? Oh, right, uber-far left Common Dreams will excuse them because they are mostly run by Democrats.

Then there is the fact that since the Paris Agreement was signed, the world’s largest banks have loaned more than $2.7 trillion to the fossil fuel industry. JPMorgan Chase alone has provided over $296 billion to the fossil fuel industry in that time.

The fossil fuel corporations funded by Wall Street cause vast harm to black communities; yet, black communities reap almost no benefit from the industry. As a 2014 NAACP report documented, 68% of African Americans live within thirty miles of a coal-fired power plant, resulting in higher rates of birth defects, cancers, heart disease, and other maladies, as well as lower property values. Yet, African Americans hold only 1.1% of the nation’s energy jobs and claim just 0.001% of the revenue from energy industries.

Of course, fossil fuel companies are also wrecking our planet’s climate. As the 130 organizations in the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition have been pointing out, the money that Wall Street pipes to the fossil fuel industry is the oxygen upon which the fire of global warming burns. Without it, the fossil fuel industry simply couldn’t afford to build its new coal mines and oil pipelines.

Wall Street, it turns out, is every bit as complicit in the climate crisis as it was in the slave trade.

When will Common Dreams call out all the people who actually use fossil fuels, such as the Democrats campaigning across the country?

Biden Releases America First “Economic Plan”, Forgetting His Dismal Record During Obama Years

Biden pushes populist ‘made in America’ plan to pump up economy

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden returned to his childhoold hometown in Pennsylvania on Thursday during a trip where he proposed spending $700 billion on American products and research – in the hopes of bringing back millions of jobs lost by an economy flattened by the coronavirus pandemic.

The former vice president unveiled his populist plan during a speech at a metal works factory in Dunmore, Pa., just minutes from his childhood home in Scranton.

His proposal – called the “Build Back Better” plan – also seeks to create 5 million new jobs and is the first of four economic proposals Biden is expected to roll out over the coming weeks.

“Let’s use this opportunity to take bold investments in American industry and innovation, so the future is made in America, all in America,” Biden emphasized.

“When the federal government spends taxpayers’ money, we should use it to buy American products and support American jobs,” he added.

Perhaps some in the lapdog media could ask how well Joe Biden did administering Obama’s Stimulus. Remember how Obama called him Sheriff Joe, and they Joe would make it happen?

“I do not buy for one second that the vitality of American manufacturing is a thing of the past,” Biden said. He also touted his longstanding close ties to union workers, saying, “I had an uncle who said, ‘Joey, you’re labor from belt buckle to shoe sole.’ Well I’ve taken pride in that.”

Huh. Democrats said American manufacturing was gone when Trump was talking about bringing it back.

The first part of the former vice president’s proposal is a $400 billion investment by the federal government to purchase American products such as cement, concrete, steel, and other materials to rebuild the nation’s crumbling infrastructure.

Why does the federal government need more money for this? Shouldn’t they be buying American whenever they can?

The second part is a $300 billion investment in research for new technologies, such as electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and 5G.

Again, why? The private sector is doing just fine on their own. The private sector comes up with most new technologies, they’re the ones doing the electric car thing (not that most buyers care, and these are mostly for rich people), the last thing we need is the federal government getting involved with AI, and 5G has already been created and is being deployed. Does Handsy Joe even know that? 5G is being deployed nationwide by the major carriers, and they already have, and have had, phones for this.

The president’s reelection campaign has slammed Biden for the slow economic recovery from the Great Recession during Biden’s tenure as President Obama’s vice president.

“Biden’s policies caused the slowest economic recovery since the Great Depression, anemic job growth, and depressed wages for the workers left,” Trump campaign national press secretary Hogan Gidley argued.

That would be the Stimulus, son of stimulus, and all the other stuff from the Obama admin. Democrats like to say that Trump’s good economy is due to Obama’s policies: why’d they take over 8 years to kick in if true?

Surprise: Chance Of World Hitting 1.5C Doubles In New “Model”

Chances of global warming to 1.5C within five years doubles under new modelling

Global temperatures have a 20 per cent change of reaching 1.5C above pre-industrial levels in the next five years, according to new analysis from the World Meteorological Organisation which doubles the likelihood from an earlier assessment.

Analysis last year from the Met Office, which led on the new report, put the likelihood at 10 per cent.

The Met Office said the higher figure was produced by using models from ten different climate centres around the world for the first time.

The Paris Agreement, which governments signed up to in 2015, aims to limit global warming to 1.5C and at least 2C, based on averages over a 30-year period.

Current warming is at 1C, which the WMO said would continue over the next five years, with a one in five chance that one year would hit 1.5C and a 70 per cent chance that one month would.

So, if the world is at 1.8 Fahrenheit now, they’re claiming that there’s a 20% chance of having a year were it gets to at least 2.7F, and 70% a full month would be at 2.7F. Despite only rising 1.8F since 1850, something that is utterly normal during a Holocene warm period. The Medieval Warm Period was almost 1.8F higher than it is today, with, get this, no fossil fueled vehicles. Depending on the data, the MWP may have spiked almost 3.5F from the Dark Ages before dropping back to the Little Ice Age. Previous warm periods may have been warmer.

But, you know, this is all your fault for eating a cheeseburger the other day. And the climate cult has some fearmongering to offer.
