Surprise: Vast Majority Of Americans Against Getting Rid Of Fossil Fuels

Biden did spend some time during the SOTU yammering on about EVs and renewables and reducing fossil fuels (when he wasn’t being his normal “what the hell did he say?” guy), but, what do the American people have to say?

Americans agree climate change is an issue — but differ on what to do

electric vehicleThree-quarters of Americans believe the U.S. ought to participate in international efforts to address climate change, but a majority remain pessimistic about those efforts.

Pew Research Center poll published Tuesday found that 53 percent of those surveyed didn’t think the world would avoid climate change’s worst impacts. That grim sentiment cut across party lines.

“There’s some skepticism that change will be enough to avoid the worst effects,” said Carey Funk, the center’s director of science and society research. “That was shared, generally speaking, across parties.”

The survey results, which analyzed the responses of more than 10,000 Americans, follow a new report from the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that said climate change is endangering people already and will disrupt food systems, force tens of millions more from their homes and threaten gains in global health unless drastic action is taken.

The survey, which was conducted before Russia invaded Ukraine, shows that Americans are deeply divided over climate and energy policy and differ over how to address global warming as its primary cause.

I wonder what it would look like if you take it now?

Two-thirds of Americans think the United States should use a mix of fossil fuels and renewables in the future, rather than phase out fossil fuels completely, the Pew research says. About 28 percent — including more than half of Republicans — oppose the U.S. taking steps toward becoming carbon neutral.

Interesting: most Americans seem to understand that things do not run without fossil fuels. Reading between the lines, you can bet those same people realize that electric vehicles are, at this time, for people who are making a lot of money, not for the average citizen. Someone making $50K a year isn’t particularly interested in a $40K and up EV, understanding just how much that monthly payment would be, and then there’s the whole problem with charging them. What do you do on trips? What do you do if you live in an apartment? Does anyone actually believe Biden is going to be putting all his promised EV chargers up in low and middle income areas? Again, I support them in theory. I’ve always said I’m not a fan of fossil fuels, as they do pollute, excluding CO2. They aren’t even close to being ready for primetime for all.

As for being carbon neutral, those who said we’re ready rarely ever take actions in their own lives.

The Pew polling says about 35 percent of adults believe policies aiming to reduce the effects of global warming harm the U.S. economy, according to the Pew research.

Carr argues that’s shortsighted.

“People say, ‘Oh, adaptation is really expensive, we don’t want to pay for that,’ as if we’re not already paying for climate adaptation every time we have to renourish a beach or build a seawall or rebuild a coastal town when it gets flooded,” Carr said, arguing that a proactive approach would be effective and avoid “tremendous” costs later.

High ranking climate cultists always say this, yet, they aren’t doing anything in their own lives, eh? Where’s Biden’s electric limo and large convoy of electric SUVs? When he’s flying in a big, military helicopter every weekend to Camp David or his home in Delaware, what are we to believe?

The poll really shows that, while people support more wind, solar, etc, they are against the federal government requiring it while doing away with dependable, reliable, affordable fossil fuels at this time.

Brandon Admin To Introduce New “Test To Treat” Strategy

Two years into the Wuhan Flu, and as the Omicron wave crashes, Brandon finally decided that medicines are a thing

WATCH: Biden outlines COVID plan in State of the Union, says Americans can soon move ‘back to more normal routines’

Normal? We watched the Super Bowl with all the celebs and politicians not wearing masks despite a mask mandate, and engaging in no social distancing

President Joe Biden declared Tuesday that “it’s time for Americans to get back to work” as he announced new efforts to allow people to return to normal activities safely after two years of pandemic disruptions.

Yeah, we said this a year and a half ago, when we knew who was most at risk

Biden used his State of the Union address to announce that his administration was launching a “test-to-treat” initiative to provide free antiviral pills at pharmacies to those who test positive for the virus.

He also highlighted the progress made on the pandemic since last year, with a dramatic reduction in cases, readily-available vaccines and tests, and new therapeutics soon becoming more accessible.

“Tonight, I can say we are moving forward safely, back to more normal routines,” Biden said. “It’s time for Americans to get back to work and fill our great downtowns again.”

His comments come ahead of the White House release of a new “National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan” on Wednesday. The White House said it would be “a roadmap that will enable us to move forward safely, and sustain and build on the progress we’ve made over the past 13 months.”

Progress? More people have died under Biden’s watch than under Trump, despite all the mask mandates and having vaccines available thanks to Trump’s Operation Warp Speed. Hey, can all the nurses and others get their jobs back? They were heroes first, then turned into villains for refusing to take the vaccine, which is essentially in experimental phase (yes, I still support them, but, that’s me). Therapeutics? The things Biden and the Dems have blown off because Trump and Republicans wanted them to be used? And that Biden has also blocked? These might have been helpful during Delta and Omicron.

Would these be the therapeutics that Joe has slow walked his entire presidency? It’s a little late in the game for this, right?

(NY Times) The White House has been working on a detailed new coronavirus response strategy, which officials said they would introduce on Wednesday. It is expected to address a broad range of issues, including developing new vaccines and therapeutics and how to keep schools and businesses open even if the pandemic takes a turn for the worse.

The idea behind the strategy is to get the nation out of crisis mode and to a place, Mr. Biden has said, where the virus will no longer disrupt everyday life, and Americans will learn to live with it. Mr. Biden spoke in broad strokes about the way forward, providing few details.

A goodly chunk of us were already there. Even many of Brandon’s voters have moved on from believing in the heavy hand of government. He’s promising to have 1 million doses of the Pfizer pills this month, and a million next month, despite being relatively scare since the FDA finally approved them.

It is interesting: the polling caused Democrats to suddenly abandon most of their mask mandates, we aren’t hearing about vaccine mandates, we saw at the SOTU that social distancing disappeared, and now Brandon is talking about opening things up and pushing therapeutics.

Bummer: Climate Cult Scientists Are Ready To Go On Strike Because No One Is Listening

The thing is, the big shots in the climate cult do listen, and try and shove climate cult policies down the throats of the little people, who are also listening. They just don’t like the policies in practice, knowing how it will hurt their own lives. And, most are tired of the doomy prognostications from people who do not seem to practice what they preach

These Climate Scientists Are Fed Up and Ready to Go on Strike

Sometimes, Bruce C. Glavovic feels so proud to be an environmental scientist, studying coastal planning and teaching future researchers, that it moves him to tears.

Other times, he wonders whether any of it has been enough. Scientists have proved beyond doubt that climate change is transforming the planet for the worse. Yet their work has mostly failed to spur governments to address the issue. When all the signs are telling scientists that their research is not being heard, it is tragic, Dr. Glavovic said, that they just keep producing more of it.

“We’ve had 26 Conference of the Parties meetings, for heaven’s sake,” he said, referring to the United Nations global warming summits. More scientific reports, another set of charts. “I mean, seriously, what difference is that going to make?”

Twenty six, eh? When they all take fossil fueled flights to great vacation spots to push politicians to implement controls on citizens.

It was this frustration that led Dr. Glavovic, 61, a professor at Massey University in New Zealand, and two colleagues to send a jolt recently through the normally cautious, rarefied world of environmental research. In an academic journal, they called on climate scientists to stage a mass walkout, to stop their research until nations take action on global warming.

Who will miss them? People who love doom-mongering? If they stop doing research government won’t give them money, and that’s where the majority of funding is coming from.

Predictably, many researchers balked, calling the idea wrongheaded or worse — “a supernova of stupid,” as one put it on Twitter. But the article gets at questions that plenty of climate scientists have asked themselves lately: Is what we’re doing with our lives really making a difference? How can we get elected officials to act on the threats that we’ve so clearly identified? Do we become activists? Would we sacrifice our credibility as academics, our cool composure, by doing so?

What credibility? They’re simply doom-mongers. What are they doing with their lives? Pushing hyperbolic, over-wrought missives of Coming Doom in an attempt to get governments to take more money from citizens and force citizens to live their lives in a certain way. Authoritarianism. Do they even consider what they’re trying to create?

Dr. Glavovic says he believes a pause on research would give his fellow researchers a chance to think, really think, about how best to use their skills in the slender window humans have left for altering the planet’s trajectory. “The clock is ticking,” he said.

Let’s see all of you stop using fossil fuels and make your own lives “carbon neutral.”

If you have to use the backdrop of war to push your climate beliefs, you’re a cult, an activist, not a scientist.

Democrats Turn Against Mask Mandates Due To Science And Politics, But, Mostly Politics

See, it’s all about a mix of Science! and politics

Democrats turn against mask mandates as Covid landscape and voter attitudes shift
The decision is being driven by a mix of science and political science.

When President Joe Biden gives his State of the Union speech on Tuesday, the mask mandate will be gone in the Capitol, reflecting a stark nationwide shift for Democrats against the public safety rule that has fueled a red-versus-blue culture war.

Behind the shift is a blend of science and political science.

The Covid-19 landscape is improving, with vaccines and booster shots easily available and proving highly effective at preventing severe illness or death. The Centers For Disease Control say 70 percent of Americans reside in areas with low or medium Covid levels. All 50 states have eased or eliminated mask mandates, and the White House formally ditched its requirement Monday.

Interestingly, most Democrats are not in favor of doing away with mandates

Some interesting numbers

After vanquishing Donald Trump by promising to get the virus under control, Democrats are now positioning themselves to declare victory against Covid ahead of a tough midterm election, amid recent polling data showing that Americans are less fearful of Covid-related illness and eager to return to normal life.

“We’ve beaten Covid. Time to take off the masks. Time to get back to life. Let’s open up our businesses. And let’s — everyone go back to having as normal a life as we can,” Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz. said Friday on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.”

Beaten!

Again, despite all the masking, and vaccines (which Joe, Kamala, and other Dems said wouldn’t happen quick, and they wouldn’t trust them), Delta and Omicron skyrocketed. So, this is totally about science, right?

In all these Democrat states that removed mask mandates, or mostly removed, the positivity rate is higher than before Omicron hit. Why didn’t they remove the mandates back during the summer of 2021? It wasn’t politically expedient.

On ‘Climate Change’, Delay Means Death Or Something

CNN, which has, so far, refused to give up their own use of fossil fuels to run their operations, is really taking the newish UN IPCC report to a new doomy level

‘Delay means death’: We’re running out of ways to adapt to the climate crisis, new report shows. Here are the key takeaways

Climate change is on course to transform life on Earth as we know it, and unless global warming is dramatically slowed, billions of people and other species will reach points where they can no longer adapt to the new normal, according to a major report published Monday.

Sherman Potter Bull Cookies

How did humanity survive during previous Holocene warm periods, several of which were much warmer?

The UN-backed report, based on years of research from hundreds of scientists, found that the impacts from human-caused climate change were larger than previously thought. The report’s authors say these impacts are happening much faster and are more disruptive and widespread than scientists expected 20 years ago.

Of course they find this. Have to keep the funding train going.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the report “an atlas of human suffering and a damning indictment of failed climate leadership,” and he warned that “delay means death.”

“The facts are undeniable. This abdication of leadership is criminal,” Guterres said in a statement. “The world’s biggest polluters are guilty of arson of our only home.”

He also said that “current events” showed the world was too reliant of fossil fuels, calling them “a dead end,” in an apparent reference to the Ukraine conflict and energy crisis.

Would this be the same Guterres who presided over the big climate conference last Fall in Glasgow, Scotland, which saw a huge number of people fly in on fossil fueled private jets, along with all the others taking commercial? Absolutely no one is surprised by the Yammering Of Doom from a climahypocrite, though, eh? Nor that he wants Government more empowered to force citizens to comply.

After Working Hard To Help Make Ukraine Happen, Media Working To Make Nuclear War Happen

We all know that the news has always in the corner of “if it bleeds, it leads.” And they like to fear-monger, be apoplectic, ramp up the doom and gloom. That might not be the best thing to do in this case, starting with the Washington Post

The Ukraine crisis is now a nuclear crisis

Russia’s publicly announced nuclear alert has turned the Ukraine war from a crisis involving nuclear powers to an actual nuclear crisis.

With the caveat that we do not have many details about what the Russian alert entails, it is nevertheless a clear sign that President Vladimir Putin does not believe that the conventional military campaign in Ukraine is achieving the political outcomes he wants.

Putin has turned to nuclear weapons because they offer another way to increase pressure on both Ukraine and its international backers to come to the settlement that Russia wants regarding Ukraine’s status. Yet his decision raises serious risks of both deliberate and inadvertent nuclear escalation.

This is a scary moment, but it’s not unprecedented or that surprising. Here is why.

A long piece designed to put the scare in people, get them all worried and anxious. All so people will pay attention to the news, and hopefully buy some papers, maybe get an Internet subscription.

Yes, Russia could use nuclear weapons

“Nuclear war is part of our strategic culture. Yes, we would start one if our homeland, our way of life, was threatened, absolutely. Why wouldn’t we?”

That’s what a retired Russian diplomat told me on the sidelines of a track-two dialogue between US, Russian and Chinese experts back in 2012. And to be honest, for several years, I didn’t believe him. I took his comments as bragging, atomic machismo, if you will.

The context of the conversation was a response to a question to my Russian colleague on the subject of Moscow’s nuclear weapons doctrine and thinking. Russia for several years has believed in the concept of escalating nuclear tensions to deescalate tensions, or what defense scholars call “escalate to deescalate.” (snip)

Back in 2012, I pressed my Russian colleague, asking in what other situations Russia would use nuclear weapons, if any. He explained that “if anything threatens our ability to exist as a nation and prosper, it is my view that we would use nuclear weapons.”

I didn’t believe him then, but I do now.

With Russian President Vladimir Putin now putting his nation’s nuclear forces on alert status, Moscow is signaling to us that recent arms shipments, sanctions, lashings in the media, and pressure placed on the Putin government are rattling nerves.

This one is actually much better analysis that the Washington Post piece, which seems more like your typical know-it-all liberal reporter who knows nothing, but, is still fearmongering. And

There are plenty of links, more than plenty. Surprisingly, Biden is the voice of reason to the media

Biden says Americans should not worry about nuclear war after Russian actions

President Joe Biden said on Monday Americans should not worry about a nuclear war after Moscow put its nuclear deterrent on high alert amid a barrage of Western reprisals over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In response to a question about whether U.S. citizens should be concerned about a nuclear war breaking out, Biden said “no.” He was responding to a shouted question at the end of an event at the White House.

The media, especially the analysts, need to chill

(BBC) UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told the BBC on Monday that the heightened alert was an attempt by the Kremlin to remind the world that it had a nuclear deterrent and to distract from what was going wrong on the ground in Ukraine.

“We will not do anything to escalate in that area… but at the moment this is a battle of rhetoric that President Putin is deploying,” he said.

This is what those who are truly in The Know are saying, it’s just rhetoric. Please stop trying to make this happen, media.

Biden Admin Finally Slaps Sanctions On All Russian Central Bank Assets

Finally catching up to Europe

US effectively freezes Russian central bank assets held by Americans

The U.S. said it is blocking financial transactions of Russian central bank assets, effectively freezing any of those assets held by Americans.

The freeze is effective immediately, a senior administration official said in a briefing for reporters on Monday. The official said that the U.S.’s actions are in conjunction and cooperation with the European Union, Japan, the UK, Canada, and others. This means that not only will Russia not be able to access funds in U.S. dollars, they will be unable to use dollars in the other countries turn to other banks and other currencies.

By making the move effective immediately, before markets open, the official said, Russia will be unable to move assets to avoid or mitigate the consequences.

“Our strategy,” the official said, “is to make sure that the Russian economy goes backward as long as President Putin decides to go forward with his campaign.”

Except for one thing

According to the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), this is not a complete and total block of the central bank, as OFAC is authorizing certain transactions with Russia’s central bank that are “energy-related,” and that additional authorizations could follow if necessary.

So, Russia will still be able to make lots of cash from exporting oil and natural gas.

Maybe blowing out for the whole weekend wasn’t the best idea, eh?

Bummer: ‘Climate Change’ Could Maybe Possibly Make Health Worse

This is all because the UN IPCC report is coming out. There are all sorts of fear-mongering articles out there, and here’s one

Global health has improved for decades. Climate change could change that.

As temperatures warm, the health risks of climate change are expected to intensify in the U.S. and worldwide.

The effects of climate change have already left millions of people hungry, caused deaths during heat waves and strained some people’s mental health as they are forced to leave their homes because of extreme weather, according to a major report from the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, that was released Monday.

So far, scientists say, world leaders are falling short not only at reducing fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions but also in making their communities more resilient to the health issues aggravated by climate change.

There have always been heat waves, weather has always caused hunger problems, and forced people to move. Interestingly, Humanity moved forward faster than ever during this Modern Warm Period, and the people whining about fossil fuels refuse to give up their own use.

In the decades before the Covid-19 pandemic, measures of human health worldwide largely improved. Now, climate change could put those trends in jeopardy.

“For many aspects of human well-being, we are actually in a period of decades of progress,” said Brian O’Neill, a chief scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory who studies climate change risks and helped author the IPCC report. In particular, O’Neill cited the trend of reductions in worldwide poverty, malnourishment and child mortality. “Climate impacts slow that progress or put it at risk.”

The findings are part of a broad study by the IPCC of the effects of climate change, its impacts and how societies could adapt and prepare for a warmer climate. The assessment, which was written by 270 scientists from 67 countries, represents broad consensus among researchers about how global warming is affecting people and the environment — and the potential consequences of inaction.

Reducing poverty, improving health care and focusing on sustainable development could matter as much for people’s health and well-being as reducing emissions, O’Neill said.

In other words, if Government doesn’t Do Something we are all doomed. And they can fix this with your money and freedom!

BTW, you’ll probably see the UN IPCC and other Warmists use the deaths and health issues from Wuhan Flu in a few years in their doomy reports to say we should Do Something.
