Romney Castigates Reporter Over Stupid Questions

Via Hot Air from Buzzfeed comes this video of Romney being interviewed by CBS4 in Colorado. As Allahpundit points out, the money quote comes at about 2:15. Watch the whole lead up to understand why Romney is annoyed, having to discuss social issues

“Aren’t there issues of significance that you’d like to talk about? The economy? The growth of jobs? The need to put people back to work? The challenges of Iran?”

Why would the MFM want to discuss those issues? Those aren’t winners for Obama.

Dems War On Women: 324,000 Drop Out Of Civilian Labor Force In Two Months

I’m sure those who are giving up on finding work are comforted by Obama opining on gay marriage, spiking the ball on Osama, and discussing dogs

(CNS News) 324,000 women dropped out of the nation’s civilian labor force in March and April as the number of women not in the labor force hit an all-time historical high of 53,321,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The civilian labor force consists of all people in the United States 16 years or older who are not in the military, a prison, or another institution such as a nursing home or mental hospital and who either have a job or are unemployed but have actively sought work in the previous four weeks and are currently available to work.

This year (in both January and April), only 57.6 percent of the women in the civilian noninstitutional population were in the labor force. That is the lowest rate of labor force participation by American women since April 1993, according to historical data maintained by BLS.

I’m sure this has nothing to do with the policies of Obama and the Democrats: perhaps it is due to ATMs messing with free birth control causing all these women to get pregnant. Perhaps women are abandoning the workforce due to the Japanese earthquake/tsunami. And, it’s probably George Bush’s fault.

Pathetic: Obama Says Military Fights “On His Behalf”

During the most narcissistic president ever’s Robin Roberts interview on his pandering change on gay marriage, he had this to say (via Weekly Standard and Gateway Pundit)

“…When I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together; when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

Despicable. Cluebat for Mr. Obama: they don’t fight on your behalf. They fight on the behalf of the United States, on behalf of their loved ones, their service branch, their unit, their comrades. Elliot Abrams, at the Weekly Standard link above

Most Americans thought they were fighting for the country, not on Barack Obama’s behalf.  Slip of the tongue, to be sure, but can one think of another president who’d have made it?  They are fighting under his command, under his orders, to be sure, but this particular locution is offensive and solipsistic.  Mr. Obama has switched his position on the sanctity of marriage back and forth and has a new one, again, today, revealed when politics made that advisable to him and to his campaign.  Whether this is the end or he will “evolve” some more is anyone’s guess.

But let’s leave our soldiers out of this. They aren’t fighting for Mr. Obama and his campaign, and no one sent them out to risk their lives to win same sex “marriage.”

Everyone is a pawn in Obama’s world.

President Who Doesn’t Support Gay Marriage Disappointed In NC Vote

This guy’s a hoot

(The Hill) President Obama’s campaign said he was “disappointed” that North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in the state.

“The president has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same-sex couples,” Obama North Carolina campaign spokesman Cameron French said, in a Tuesday statement on the vote over Amendment 1.

“He believes the North Carolina measure singles out and discriminates against committed gay and lesbian couples, which is why he did not support it,” said French. “President Obama has long believed that gay and lesbian couples deserve the same rights and legal protections as straight couples and is disappointed in the passage of this amendment. On a federal level, he has ended the legal defense of the Defense of Marriage Act and extended key benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.”

Yet, Obama doesn’t support gay marriage himself. And, after two days of constant questions from the White House press corps, today’s press conference was cancelled.

Me, I’m pretty disappointed in Obama’s handling of the economy. Shocked? No. It’s about what I expected from him.

Oh, and, according to Fox News, he’s supposed to have an interview with Robin Roberts and his position will “evolve.” In other words, he’s going to cave.

Update: He’s caved:

President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.

In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place, based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.

The gay and lesbian community might want to ask if he is patronizing you simply to get donations and votes. The Lonely Conservative has more on that subject of liberal support.

Good Grief: Now Eye Disease Is Blamed On Globull Warming

They really can’t help themselves (via Tom Nelson)

(HuffPo) Two years ago, retired teacher Vera started experiencing eye discomfort, irritation and crusting of the eyelids. She was prescribed a short course of antibiotics for what her doctor suspected was a simple eye infection, but several months later she was still having problems.

“My eyes felt constantly gritty and dry, and my lids were red and flaky. I was treated for a range of eye conditions, but nothing seemed to make a difference,” says Vera.

Many trips to eye specialists later, she was diagnosed with chronic blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelid, of unknown cause. And, after trial and error with different treatments, she now has a routine that keeps her discomfort and pain in check. However, some days her eyes flare up for no apparent reason: “I just wish I knew why I keep getting this,” she says.

It may be difficult to pin Vera’s symptoms to global warming, but scientists all over the world agree that increased levels of ultraviolet radiation reaching the surface of the Earth, resulting from ozone depletion at high altitude, and a toxic mix of air pollutants are responsible for serious eye disorders.

In order to validate this notion, some scientists are conducting a survey of people who spend time outdoors. Too bad there’s no control group which considers past eye health.

Scientists also believe that the rise in global temperature attributed to the greenhouse effect of global warming can be linked directly to some eye conditions, and that airborne pollutants, such as sulphur dioxide, soot and dust, can cause dry eyes, irritation and visual impairment.

They can believe all they want: can they prove it? Let’s save them the trouble. No, they can’t. All they can do is make an inference based on circular logic and fantasy.

Obama Offers Post It Notes In Lieu Of Leadership

Have you seen the latest? (via Doug Powers)

(Washington Post) President Obama called on Congress on Tuesday to support a five-point “to-do list,” which features job creation and mortgage relief measures, in his latest effort to paint the legislative body as an obstructionist force during an election year.

Obama has proposed all of the measures before. But as Washington has grown more polarized during the presidential campaign season, the president has been trying to use Congress as a foil to highlight his administration’s efforts to pass legislation to stimulate the economy.

So, nothing serious. Just a campaign gimmick. Check.

“In this make or break moment for the middle class, there is no excuse for inaction, no excuse for dragging our feet. None,” Obama told the crowd at a nanotechnology facility at the State University of New York at Albany.

During Obama’s remarks, two flat-screen television monitors showed a graphic in the form of a green Post-It Note titled “Congress To-Do List” and laying out the five items with un-checked squares next to them.

It’s make or break, yet, what does Obama have to offer?

Doug suggests that instead of “Foreward,” Team Obama should have gone with “Post it notes you can believe in.” How about “Abdication of responsibility”?

North Carolina’s Amendment 1 Passes

WRAL is so bummed that they can’t even write a detailed story on it (and the story still isn’t showing up on my Droid app)

North Carolina voters elected to change the state constitution on Tuesday, prohibiting any union outside of a marriage between a man and a woman from being recognized in the state.

The marriage amendment captured 61 percent of the vote, with about 80 percent of precincts reporting late Tuesday.

Much of the rest is a reiteration of opponent talking points. At 11pm, with 94% reporting, it is 1,244,833 for Amendment 1, 795,628 against. A 61/39 split.

How soon till a lawsuit is filed to stop A1? I’m betting by the end of Thursday.

Lots more going on. Romney took NC. Of course. It’ll be McCrory (R) vs. Dalton (D) for the governorship. George Holding took out incumbent Paul Coble. I’m regretting my vote for Tim D’Annunzio. He’s a flake, but, he’s the GOP candidate for NC4. Renee Elmers cruised to an easy primary, as did Walter Jones. District 8 doesn’t have anyone above 40%, which is necessary for a win.

Allahpundit has more on non North Carolina races. Oh, and for those carpetbagging liberals who don’t like it, I95 and I85 run north and south, I40 heads west. Funny how so many northern liberals who denigrate the South keep moving from their northern cities to the South.

Morning update: unshockingly, Liberals are pushing the “FRAUD!!!!!!1!!!!” meme because some people were given the wrong ballot. In NC, if one is 17 but will be 18 on election day in November, they can vote in a primary, but not for things like the Amendment, where the actual substantive vote is today. There were some reports that some 17 year olds were given the ballot with the Amendment, and some over 18 weren’t. Obviously, this is some deep, dark, Christian Taliban conspiracy, rather than simple errors on voting day.

John Hawkins highlights some of those ultra civil and tolerant liberals opining on the issue.

And more: for those pushing the “fraud” meme, that’s not working in the typical liberal areas

The Triangle voted against the amendment. It lost 43-57 in Wake County, 30-70 in Durham, 21-79 in Orange County, and 46-54 in Chatham.

Mecklenburg County also voted against the measure, 46-54. And it was narrowly defeated, 49-51, in both Buncombe and Watauga Counties.

The Avengers 3D – The Review

Eh.

That’s pretty much it. Perhaps I expected too much after all the hype. Perhaps it’s because it seemed to be a stilted movie with boring dialogue which superimposed visuals for 3D effect over a good screenplay, which creates little emotion, as happens with many 3D movies. It becomes more about explosions and violence and mayhem simply for the sake of explosions and violence and mayhem.

It also seemed to mostly be the next Ironman movie. Captain America, the Hulk, etc, tended to be more of supporting characters. Scarlett Johansson was pouty and….that’s about it. I kept expecting Samuel L. Jackson to deliver lines from Revenge Of The Sith. I really did not like the Captain America line about the stars and stripes being outdated. Surprisingly, Joss Whedon turned in a rather emotionless movie.

Is it worth seeing? Yeah, the afternoon matinee. Perhaps it would be better to see in 2D. Remember, I wasn’t particularly pleased with Avatar in 3D, but, I really like that movie on ye olde Blu-ray player. 6 out of 10 crossbones.
