Bummer: Kiribati Man Denied “Climate Refugee” Status

Total bummer

(HuffPo) (Climate refugee) has primarily been an academic debate until now. New Zealand immigration authorities have just refused refugee status to a man from the drowning island country of Kiribati. The 36-year-old man sought refuge in New Zealand from climate change related harm, saying on his application that he fears for his children’s future on the coral atolls of Kiribati, which are elevated just slightly above sea level.

The I-Kiribati man has been in New Zealand since 2004. His visa expired recently, so he sought a more permanent solution to his sense of homelessness. During my recent trip to Kiribati, many spoke of New Zealand as a back up option that they would keep in the back of their mind. However, most that I spoke with want to remain in their homeland of Kiribati for as long as they can.

In other words, he didn’t want to go back to the poo infested waters of Kiribati so he decided to apply using the silly “climate refugee” crap. Pun intended.

The waters around Kiribati are not rising. In fact, the islands themselves are growing. Even if the waters were rising, how the heck do these flat earth Warmists think they came into being anyhow? The islands are coral based, hence, the seas had to be higher in the past to allow the coral to build what would become islands when the sea level went down.

But, then, who wouldn’t want to live in a paradise like New Zealand (ignoring that little issue of being on severe fault zones) versus islands that are barely above sea level to start with, are running out of fresh water because they’re tiny islands, and, oh, all that poo infested water?

Sorry, Warmists, DNC Just Doesn’t Care About You Anymore

Yesterday I noted that Grist is really bummed over the lack of climate change (hoax) discourse at the DNC abortionfest. Alas, it’s worse than they thought

(Daily Caller) Though the 2012 Democratic Party platform declares that the “national security threat from climate change is real, urgent, and severe,” it is apparently not urgent and severe enough to merit mention by speakers at the Democratic National Convention during the past two days.

The Daily Caller reviewed the speech transcripts of the over 80 speakers who took the stage at the Time Warner Cable Arena here in Charlotte on Tuesday and Wednesday, and only one mentioned climate change — and even he only mentioned it in passing.

“Thanks to President Obama, America is laying the foundation for the way we power tomorrow,” said Tom Steyer, co-founder of the Advanced Energy Economy trade association, in one of the early and therefore likely least watched speeches to the convention Wednesday.

“Gov. Romney’s road to the future will lead to dirty air and increasing climate volatility, uncertainty over energy prices, and less security, not more,” Steyer continued. “President Obama’s road to the future will lead us to energy independence, energy security, a safer and cleaner environment, and countless new jobs that can never be outsourced.”

As The DC’s Jamie Weinstein points out, that’s as close as it gets to the climate change hoax, “climate volatility”. Because weather never happened before 1980 (or, pick whatever year the Warmist wants to use).

..the words “climate change” appear in the document (DNC platform) 18 times.

So, that’s 17 times more than God. And certainly a whole lot less than “abortion”, “choice”, etc. I’d like to say I can’t blame them for ignoring the fake issue, since people aren’t terribly thrilled over the prospect of higher energy prices, higher food prices, higher costs of living, reduced energy availability, more government control of their lives, and more taxation, all to do….well, something. Dems can certainly see what has happened, and still going on, in Australia since the passage of their AGW legislation. The Aussie Labor Party is in deep, deep doo doo for passing the legislation. But, then, if Dems are willing to yammer on constantly about abortion, you’d think they could go for AGW, too.

Tom Nelson provides 5 quotes you won’t hear from Obama tonight regarding climate change. And Reason points out that  Dem voters love “choice” for abortion, but not so much when it comes to choosing a lightbulb (h/t Valentine Cotton)

Anderson Cooper: Debbie Downer Lives In “An Alternate Universe”

Y’all have certainly read about the brouhaha at the DNC regarding the vote to put God and Jerusalem as Israel’s capitol back into the Party abortionfest platform (more on that at the end of this post, except for the Right Wing News crosspost, since John has already covered it). But, what does Debbie Wasserman Schultz think?

(The Blaze) CNN’s Brianna Keilar asked Wasserman Schultz on the convention floor how she felt as one of “the most prominent Jewish lawmakers” when she learned that any mention of Jerusalem being the capital of Israel was struck from the Democratic platform.

Wasserman Schultz said a “technical oversight” led to the omission, adding that the platform was amended to reflect President Obama’s personal views and the views of the Democratic party. Conveniently, the DNC chair said a “technical oversight” also led to all references to“God” being left out of the platform.

“The bottom line is we’ve taken steps, we’ve amended it, President Obama felt it was important to reflect his personal view and it’s done. And we’re moving forward and continuing this convention,” she said, adding that she is very proud of the president’s record on supporting Israel.

But that wasn’t what sent Cooper into a tizzy. Even though video of the platform amendment vote shows a chaotic scene, many people booing and hollering in protest, Wasserman Schultz argued that “there wasn’t any discord” during the vote.

After watching the interview from the CNN studio, the always fair Cooper said: “I mean, that’s an alternate universe.”

DWS almost makes me pine for the good old days of Howard Dean. Yes, he was nasty, crazy, and overbearing, but, at least he wasn’t a complete fool.

Cooper reminded his audience that it was Wasserman Schultz who attacked Mitt Romney’s campaign because “it is the candidate who sets the platform, who designs and writes the platform. It wasn’t true when she was saying it two weeks ago — but now isn’t it fair if she claimed that about the Republican platform to claim that about the Democratic platform?”

When you’ve lost Anderson Cooper, you’ve…..well, you haven’t lost much, because so few actually watch CNN.

As for the supposed “booing” many are talking about, it sound more like about half the DNC delegates in attendance were yelling “no”, not booing. Decide for yourself

Snort-worthy Clinton: “Are We Where We Want To Be? No”

Well, it’s certainly better off not having a president who sexually harasses women, was credibly accused of rape, impeached for lying to a federal grand jury (along with suborning testimony), and had stuck a cigar in the hoo-ha of a girl young enough to be his daughter. Instead, we have a president who, um, really doesn’t care. Jennifer Rubin discusses Clinton’s long, rambling speech, of which I’ll skip the parts regarding her interpretation as I was watching my Giants lose, not Clinton’s speech, and makes a two excellent points

At his most effective, Clinton said that no president could have fixed in four years the economy that Obama inherited. And he extolled the belief that America ”always comes back.” Unfortunately, Obama promised to fix the economy in his first term. And the Obama recovery is the weakest in history. The comparison between the two presidents’ records was obvious, leaving one to consider if Clinton’s mere presence was a reminder of Obama’s weaknesses.

When Reagan took office, the economy immediately started turning around from the malaise and misery he inherited. When Bush 43 took office, the economy turned around from the issues he inherited (Dotcom implosion, WorldCom, Enron), and turned around the economy after the disastrous 9/11. Clinton turned around the economy when….the GOP took over the House. With Obama, what has he turned around? One could expect things to get somewhat better after a deep recession naturally. But…..

Like every other Democratic speaker, Clinton ignored the appalling increase in poverty under this president , a cynical betrayal of liberals’ supposed concern for the poor. No empathy or bitten lip is shown for them, or for the more than 8 percent of unemployed Americans (and millions more underemployed or who have stopped looking for work). The actual results of Obama’s policies are a sticky matter, so better to let him defend that himself.

Can anyone point to the Democrats talking about the poor? It’s all middle class this, middle class that. Of course, much of the middle class is suffering. How so? Investors Business Daily points out

  • Median incomes: These have fallen 7.3% since Obama took office, which translates into an average of $4,000. Since the so-called recovery started, median incomes continued to fall, dropping $2,544, or 4.8%.
  • Long-term unemployed: More than three years into Obama’s recovery, 811,000 more still fall into this category than when the recession ended.
  • Poverty: The poverty rate climbed to 15.1% in 2010, up from 14.3% in 2009, and economists think it may have hit 15.7% last year, highest since the 1960s.
  • Food stamps: There are 11.8 million more people on food stamps since Obama’s recovery started.
  • Disability: More than 1 million workers have been added to Social Security’s disability program in the last three years.
  • Gas prices: A gallon of gas cost $1.89 when Obama was sworn in. By June 2009, the price was $2.70. Today, it’s $3.84.
  • Misery Index: When Obama took office, the combination of unemployment and inflation stood at 7.83. Today it’s 9.71.
  • Union membership: Even unions are worse off under Obama, with membership dropping half a million between 2009 and 2011.
  • Debt: Everyone is far worse off if you just look at the national debt. It has climbed more than $5 trillion under Obama, crossing $16 trillion for the first time on Tuesday and driving the U.S. credit rating down.

There’s your “better off today”.

“Are we where we want to be today? No. Is the president satisfied? Of course not. But are we better off than when he took office? Of course,” Clinton said.

Love the way he hedged his bet with “are we where we want to be today? No.” Expect that to be the Obama position for the rest of the campaign, with lots of whining about those mean Republicans refusing to work with him, to which Republicans should answer “you’re damned right! His policies are a disaster. Look at what they’ve wrought over the past 4 years.”

Grist Really Bummed Over The Lack Of Climate Change (Hoax) Mentions At DNC

Hey, isn’t killing off lots of people through abortion on demand part of the climate change fix agenda?

(Grist) There was a lot of energy at the Democratic convention Tuesday night — just not the kind you can power a house or a car with.

Michelle Obama, Julián Castro, Deval Patrick, and other headliners on the convention’s opening night had the audience and the pundits swooning. But none of the major speakers made even a passing reference to climate change or other green issues. The one prime-time speaker who mentioned environmental protection was Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, a one-time Republican gone rogue.

I hit up some delegates for their insights on the omission, starting with a Houstonian next to me in the nosebleed section of the Time Warner Cable Arena. Had she heard any commentary on climate and energy? Had I missed something? She looked at me blankly. “No,” she said. “I think that’s scheduled for another night.”

Well, I guess it kinda is, since “climate change” has forced Obama and his abortionfest to move from Bank Of America stadium (the Carolina Panthers are probably really happy that they won’t have to clean and fumigate the stadium (the company that makes Lysol is bummed)), which would have seated 65,000 to the much smaller Time Warner Cable Arena, which only seats 21,000 because it might rain on Thursday night. Um, about that, there is only a 30% chance of scattered storms Thursday night. But, really, who’s bright idea was it to schedule an outdoor convention in North Carolina in early September, when there is always a chance of rain? And it is super humid? And typically hot?

Of course, the fact that Democrats were having to bus people in an attempt to fill the stadium has nothing to do with it.

As far as mentioning climate change? Kinda hard to push it when people took tons of fossil fueled travel from all over the country to watch the DNC and their massive use of power.

Chris Wallace On Michelle O: Speech Was “All About Government”

First off, even the AP can’t help but note some of the issues

“He reminds me that we are playing a long game here … and that change is hard, and change is slow and it never happens all at once,” she told a nation impatient with slow economic progress and persistently high unemployment of 8.3 percent. “But eventually, we get there, we always do,” she said in a speech that blended scenes from 23 years of marriages with the Obamas’ time in the White House.

And, just in time for the DNC, the US debt hit $16,000,000,000,000. As for Chris Wallace

(The Blaze) While Fox News political analyst Chris Wallace called first lady Michelle Obama’s address to the Democratic National Convention “masterful” and heartfelt, he said he was struck by the fact that nearly all of her speech was about about the importance of government in the lives of Americans.

“I’ve got to say, listening closely to the speech one of the things that struck me was it was all about government,” Wallace said Tuesday night during Fox News’ coverage of the DNC. “When she talked at the beginning about the people who exemplify the best of the American spirit, she talked about teachers and first responders and the military, all very admirable professions, but all government.”

He continued: “When she talked about ways to build the middle class, it was all about the auto bailout and student loans and health care reform, once again, all government programs…That was a subtle subtext to the entire speech.”

No, I did not watch the speech. There’s only so much pandering, lying, and patronizing I can take during an abortionfest. I did read the transcript this morning (hence the somewhat late posting times), and it is interesting to note that very little was said during her speech about the private sector. Perhaps that’s why Team Obama attempted to distance itself from the “government is the only thing we belong to” video yesterday.

Also missing from most of the other speeches was any notion that the private sector is where it gets done (except to mention 4.5 million new jobs, which even CNN is not buying), and where the money comes from to allow government to operate. Because someone went out and put it all on the line to build their business.
