And, instead of going through the legislative branch, you know, that pesky creation of the Constitution given lawmaking ability, here comes another “rule” from the CDET (via Erika Johnson)
(The Hill) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Friday raised biofuels targets for 2013 despite an ongoing legal battle with the oil-and-gas industry on the issue.
Refiners will be required to blend 1.28 billion gallons of biodiesel — which EPA includes in its definition of “advanced†biofuels — into traditional transportation fuel in 2013, up from 1 billion gallons this year.
“This action, which meets goals designated by Congress, is another step that strengthens America’s energy security by reducing dependence on foreign oil,†EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said Friday in a statement.
Ethanol is less powerful, releases just as much if not more greenhouse gases as gasoline, and uses vast amounts of water to produce, not too mention taking large piles of what could become …….. food!!!!!!!…… to produce. Which drives up the cost of food. It also causes deforestation and species eradication around the world as forests and jungles are clear cut and the animals intentionally slaughtered to create farms for materiel used to create biofuels.
But, wait, it gets better!
With prices at the pump worrying Americans, Republicans have railed against the Environmental Protection Agency’s new gas mandate that requires consumers to buy at least four gallons when purchasing from stations with hoses containing 10 percent and 15 percent ethanol-blended fuel.
On Monday, Republicans on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency Chief Administrator Lisa Jackson criticizing the agency’s approval of the sale of gasoline containing 15 volume percent ethanol.
Specifically, the EPA will require that consumers purchase a minimum of four gallons when buying from a gas station that sells gasoline containing 10 percent ethanol and 15 percent ethanol — also known as “E15″ — out of the same gas pump.
So now we have the CDET mandating how much gas someone must purchase? What if a person doesn’t have a 4 gallon tank?
“What if a rider doesn’t have a motorcycle with a four gallon tank?†Sensenbrenner asked in a statement. “Or if someone wants to fill a canister for their lawnmower or outboard boat engine, but it only holds 2 or 3 gallons? Or what if an American, struggling in this economy, just can’t afford 4 gallons of gas?â€
What if one has one of those annoying Vespas or other moped style transportation vehicle? The typical Vespa has a 2.3 gallon tank. I know that here in Raleigh virtually every gas station uses a blend containing up to 10% ethanol. Are the Vespa riders supposed to pump the extra into someone else’s gas tank? This is what happens when the Central Government is given, and takes, too much power, especially considering most of the people making the rules have never worked a day in their lives in the private sector.
You’ll remember that the Muslim bloc of nations amongst the UN Human Rights Council have attempted to pass a “defamation of religion” resolution multiple times that would make it a crime to defame Islam and Mohammed, and have tried other routes at the UN since 1999. Hillary Clinton sympathized. And we’ve seen Mr. Obama and Clinton, along with a raft of others, sympathize with Islamists being offended by a video, which was simply a pretext, considering that the video came out months ago.
Question: if this was a spontaneous grassroots demonstration, where’d all the al Qaeda style flags and headbands come from so quickly? Or is it that a ton of Muslims keep the flags and headbands that are similar to the al Qaeda ones around “just in case”?

(Daily Caller) If one well-known Pakistani politician gets his way, international law will forbid “anti-Islam†material from the Internet.
Friday afternoon, Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik wrote in a series of tweets that he has spoken with and written to the Secretary General of Interpol about enacting an international law to stop all anti-Islam propaganda online.

Considering that, as I mentioned yesterday, the US government is acting in a censorship role in asking YouTube to see if the stupid video violates the terms of service, it seems the Obama admin. thinks that offending Muslims should be stopped on-line, too. Fortunately, Google decided not to remove the video. Yet. And then we have the film maker being brought in for “questioning” on the pretense that he broke the terms of his parole. The message is “don’t insult Islam”.
And where’s the ACLU? They’re “concerned”
(Daily Caller) In a statement to The Daily Caller, director of the ACLU Speech, Privacy and Technology Project Ben Wizner said,
“To our knowledge, no U.S. government official has questioned the right of anyone to make this repellent film, and rightly so. We do get concerned when the federal government appears to throw its weight behind a request for self-censorship, but we don’t know the details of the government’s interactions with Google.â€
That’s about as squishy a message as one can offer. Boy Wonder Jay Carny stated during his press conference that White House asked YouTube to look at the TOS to see if there was a violation. On the bright side, the US State Dept. says to stop questioning them on what happened in Benghazi
The State Department told reporters Friday afternoon that it won’t answer any more questions about the Sept. 11 attack on the consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans until the investigation into the incident is complete.
“I’m going to frustrate all of you, infinitely, by telling you that now that we have an open FBI investigation on the death of these four Americans, we are not going to be in a position to talk at all about what the U.S. government may or may not be learning about how any of this this happened — not who they were, not how it happened, not what happened to Ambassador Stevens, not any of it — until the Justice Department is ready to talk about the investigation that’s its got,” State Department spokeswoman Victorian Nuland told reporters late Friday afternoon.

(Fox News) While the Obama administration says there was no actionable intelligence that could have prevented the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, there was a heightened threat in the region due to at least four attacks on diplomatic and western targets leading up to the murder of the U.S. ambassador.

Healing the planet one 40 wine bottle holder at a time
(Adelaide now) As Australian families facing electricity price hikes due to the carbon tax are told to switch off bar fridges to save money, tender documents show the Department of Climate Change plans to splash out on at least 10 bar fridges when it goes shopping for a host of high-end whitegoods this month.
The department’s tender list specifies appliances must be stainless steel, glass, fingerprint proof and energy and water efficient.
They’re looking for 23 fridges, 14 dishwashers, 26 microwaves, two ovens, two cooktops, two wall-mounted rangehoods and a 40-bottle wine cabinet with a glass and stainless-steel front.
But the government insists the energy efficiency of the building will save taxpayers money in the long run.
Yeah, about that saving money thing
The building, with a yearly rent of $6.4 million, offers 738 public servants luxury digs over seven floors, with space of 16sq m per person and two kitchenettes on each level.
Keeping the planet from overheating sounds like a cushy gig.

If anyone thinks this is about a film that came out months ago, they’re sadly deluded
(Reuters) Sudanese demonstrators broke into the German embassy in Khartoum on Friday, raising an Islamic flag and setting the building on fire in a protest against a film that demeaned the Prophet Mohammad, witnesses said.
Police had earlier fired tear gas to try to disperse some 5,000 protesters who had ringed the German embassy and nearby British mission. But a Reuters witness said policemen just stood by when the crowd forced its way into Germany’s mission.
Demonstrators hoisted a black Islamic flag saying in white letters “there is no God but God and Mohammed is his prophet”. They smashed windows, cameras and furniture in the building and then started a fire, witnesses said.

Not sure what one has to do with the other, besides the fact that the Islamists use any excuse to riot, vandalize, burn, and kill. Check out the picture at the Telegraph link regarding protesters attempting to burn the wall at the Cairo embassy: notice the al Qaeda stylized head band.
The British embassy in Khartoum was also under attack. American embassies in Tunis and Sudan are under attack.

GM’s vaunted Volt is on the road to nowhere fast
The Energy Department study assumed that General Motors would produce 120,000 plug-in hybrid Volts in 2012. GM never came close to that and recently suspended Volt production at its Hamtramck, Mich., plant, scene of a presidential photo-op. So far, GM has sold a little more than 21,000 Volts, even with the help of a $7,500 tax credit, recent dealer discounting and U.S. government purchases. When you factor in the $1.2 billion cost of developing the Volt, GM loses tens of thousands of dollars on each model.
Some such losses are normal in the early phases of a product’s life cycle. Perhaps the knowledge and technological advances GM has reaped from developing the Volt will help the company over the long term. But this is cold comfort for the taxpayers who still own more than a quarter of the firm.
Then they mention the failure of the Nissan Leaf, which, while not being built by the government, still receives the tax credit.
As these companies flail, they are taking the much-ballyhooed U.S. advanced-battery industry down with them. A Chinese company had to buy out distressed A123, to which the Energy Department has committed $263 million in production aid and research money. Ener1, which ran through $55 million of a $118 million federal grant before going bankrupt, sold out to a Russian tycoon.
Obama’s “green energy” loans are working wonders, eh?
No matter how you slice it, the American taxpayer has gotten precious little for the administration’s investment in battery-powered vehicles, in terms of permanent jobs or lower carbon dioxide emissions. There is no market, or not much of one, for vehicles that are less convenient and cost thousands of dollars more than similar-sized gas-powered alternatives — but do not save enough fuel to compensate. The basic theory of the Obama push for electric vehicles — if you build them, customers will come — was a myth. And an expensive one, at that.
This is similar to Obama’s entire economic plan, if you can call ideas written on a sticky note a plan. “If you just invest in more college education, jobs will magically appear.” “If you just invest in solar and wind, the energy will just magically appear.” “If you talk about the need for manufacturing, the sales will just magically appear.” But, Obama is trying to perform Gandalf magic, which doesn’t exist in the real world, rather than David Copperfield magic, which isn’t actually magic, it just looks like it.
Seriously, the minute one hears that they can only go 35-70 miles on a charge (with the AC or heat off), depending on the source, why would anyone spend that kind of money on what is really a compact car? What a great example of the way the Obama economy runs. Hand a chunk of a company over to the unions, have the government owning a big chunk of the company, and tell them to build a product there is virtually no demand for, and said product loses upwards of $49,000 per unit. And, while doing that, destroy other sectors.

According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and “lockdown”, under which movement is severely restricted.
The White House supposedly rebutted this, but Powerline says it was a non-denial denial. Lost in the raid where all sorts of documents indicating which Libyans were working with the US.

But, remember, this is all Mitt Romney’s fault.
In actuality, I won’t put any blame on Barack Obama, unless information comes out that this is something he should have known about, such as being part of an intelligence briefing, which he continuously skips. “The buck stops here” is a cute phrase, but the highest leader in any organization can’t know everything.

Anti-US protests, sparked by a controversial film which insulted Islam, have spread to more countries. Protests have been reported today in Iraq, Iran, Indonesia, Qatar, Kashmir, Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Sudan and Afghanistan.
Police fired teargas, water cannon and shots into the air to stop protesters reaching the US Embassy (in Yemen). On Thursday four people were killed and dozens of protesters and guards injured after protesters stormed the embassy compound.
Security near the US embassy in Cairo has been stepped up after a third night of violence. The security forces erected a concrete wall in the area in effort to protect the building.
Those walls would have been nice a few nights ago.
About 200 people held a largely peaceful protest outside the heavily guarded US embassy in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
AP says they waved black flags and held signs that read: “America has to be responsible for Islamophobia worldwide”.
Black flag, eh?

In Kabul preachers told their congregations that Muslims had a duty to protest against the film, but should do it peacefully.
If you have to implore your people to protest peacefully, there must be a concern that they wouldn’t. With Islamists, though, this is like telling boys standing near a mud puddle to stay clean.

Hmm, seems very similar to the al Qaeda flag, and is also used by hardcore Islamists around the world. The headbands have the same message, ‘There is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet.’ This is what happens when someone (cough POTUS cough) leads from behind which allowed the hardcore Islamists to join forces and ingratiate themselves with the Arab Spring protesters.
