Washington Post: Hey, You Warmists Are Idiots And Fighting The Wrong Battle

Well, the editorial board doesn’t specifically call the climate astrologers idiots, but, it’s implies it

Environmentalists are fighting the wrong battles

Really, they’ve been fighting the wrong battles for over 20 years. Instead of dealing with real environmental issues and wisely pushing for cost effective alternative energy, they’ve been hysterical and wrapping every real issue under the banner of hotcoldwetdry, er, climate change, attempting to control the weather, while virtually refusing to make anything other than token changes in their own lives. Anyhow

PRESIDENT OBAMA began his second term with a promise to push harder on energy and climate change. The events of the past week remind us that he won’t have to contend just with Republicans and coal-state Democrats determined to oppose reasonable measures to combat global warming. He will also have to sidestep environmentalists demanding that he fight the wrong battles.

Last Friday, the State Department released a new draft analysis of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, opposition to which has become a counterproductive obsession of many in the environmental movement. In its 2,000 pages, the report dismantled the case that nixing the Canadian pipeline must be a priority for anyone concerned about climate change, explaining anew that accepting or rejecting the project won’t make much difference to global emissions, U.S. oil consumption or world oil markets.

The Board points out that no matter what, that tar sand oil is going somewhere. Why not bring it to the United States, and, really, the world demands oil (I’m sensing the WP has an ulterior motive here, considering that they require lots of fossil fuels to do their jobs and deliver their papers).

They also tell the Warmists to not bother going after Obama’s pick to head the Energy Dept, Ernest Moniz, because Moniz supports expansion of nuclear power and natural gas. Warmists should stop have this “knee jerk opposition” to natural gas, which will supposedly reduce “carbon emissions” and can be done safely.

Instead of indulging in distractions, Mr. Obama and his friends in the environmental movement should push for policies that could make a significant difference by cutting demand for carbon-intensive fuels. As we argued Sunday, a carbon tax is a cause that really is worth fighting for.

Of course the WP likes a carbon tax. It most likely wouldn’t affect them. At least not in terms of having to purchase permits. When their own costs start spiking after they realize that the rosy prognostications by the Brookings Institution’s Adele Morris weren’t worth the tree killing paper they were written on, well, they might change their tune. And, darn it all, if there was only something the WP could do in their own lives to reduce their own “carbon emissions”.

But, still, the WP is correct in that Warmists are picking the wrong fight, especially when so many took lots of fossil fueled travel from around the country to attend the D.C. protest the other week.

Colorado Dem To Rape Survivor: Being Raped Is Less Dangerous Than Carrying A Gun

The real war on women

(The Blaze) Rape survivor Amanda Collins bravely spoke about her horrific attack during a Monday legislative hearing concerning Colorado’s proposed ban on concealed firearms on college campuses. She explained how she wished she would’ve had a firearm to defend herself from her rapist, which could have possibly prevented the attack from occurring.

After calling her story “unsettling,” Democratic state Sen. Evie Hudak quickly went after Collins, saying “actually, statistics are not on your side, even if you had a gun.”

“You said that you were a martial arts student, I mean person, experienced in taekwondo, and yet because this individual was so large, was able to overcome you even with your skills, and chances are that if you had had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you,” she added.

Hudak claimed that for every one woman who used a handgun to kill someone in self-defense, 83 were murdered by them.

“Respectfully senator, you weren’t there,” Collins said before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday. “Had I been carrying concealed, he wouldn’t have known I had my weapon; and I was there. I know without a doubt in my mind at some point I would’ve been able to stop my attack by using my firearm.”

Democrats would rather see women disarmed and vulnerable to criminals, which highlights that what they are attempting to do is disarm law abiding citizens looking to defend themselves from criminals rather than go after the criminals. And this would turn law abiding citizens into criminals per law for simply wanting a firearm to protect themselves and their families. And, hey, if women have to be raped to reduce the number of guns in the hands of the citizenry, well, that’s a small price to pay.

And, hey, it’s not like “one in four collegiate women report experiences that fit the legal definition of rape and one in five woman are raped during their college years.” Oh, wait, it is just like that. And Colorado is set to vote on  quite a few pieces of legislation that mostly go after the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens on Friday

Colorado is the same state where lawmakers have proposed using ballpoint pens, rape whistles and safe zones as an alternative to people defending themselves with a gun. Additionally, the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs advised women to urinate and vomit on an attacker.

Criminals are thrilled that Colorado may become a gun free zone.

Surprise! Warmists Blaming Volcanoes For Masking Globull Warming

Can volcanoes reduce global warming? Sure. But the point of this research is simply to provide cover for those who are pushing anthropogenic global warming in an age where atmospheric concentrations of CO2 continues to rise but the global temperature stagnates

(Business Line) Sulphur dioxide emissions from moderate volcanoes around the world can mask some of the effects of global warming by 25 per cent, a new study has found.

A team led by the University of Colorado Boulder looking for clues about why Earth did not warm as much as scientists expected between 2000 and 2010 now thinks the culprits are hiding in plain sight. (snip)

Neely said previous observations suggest that increases in stratospheric aerosols since 2000 have counter balanced as much as 25 per cent of the warming scientists blame on human greenhouse gas emissions.

It’s always about protecting the cult.

“But overall these eruptions are not going to counter the greenhouse effect. Emissions of volcanic gases go up and down, helping to cool or heat the planet, while greenhouse gas emissions from human activity just continue to go up,” Toon said.

Sixteen years with no increase in the global temperature. A whopping .28F increase since 1990. Yet, CO2 goes up. Funny how Warmist prognostications always fail.

Program That Tracks “Green” Jobs To Get Sequester Axe

In other news, there’s a program that tracks green jobs. The employees must be either very bored because they can’t find any or work very, very hard attempting to find a green job that lasts longer than a few days

(Daily Caller) A controversial Bureau of Labor Statistics program that tracks U.S. green jobs will get the axe, according to Bloomberg News, because of the automatic budget cuts, called the sequester, which are set to take effect today if lawmakers can’t reach an alternative agreement.

Bloomberg reports that a Feb. 26 email sent to Labor Department employees said a clean-energy survey would be one of three data reports cut due to sequestration, according to Bloomberg’s anonymous source.

Obama and the Dems wasted more money on “green” jobs with the Stimulus than the cost of the Sequester.

Gun Deaths And Violent Crime Down Since 1992

A random act of journalism from the Washington Post

Back in the crack-infused 1980s, young men with guns and drugs ruled the single block of Hanover Place NW. People who lived in the two-story rowhouses one mile north of the Capitol fell asleep year round to the sounds of the Fourth of July, a pop-pop-pop that they hoped was firecrackers. It rarely was.

But after two decades of consistent and dramatic declines in homicides and gun violence in Washington and many other major cities, Hanover Place is mostly quiet these days. Complaints to the police tend to be more about kids shooting craps on the sidewalk than about drug dealers shooting at rival street crews. On a block where houses were unloaded for as little as $30,000 in the 1990s, the most recent sales have ranged from $278,000 to $425,000.

As welcome as such changes have been, explanations for the nation’s plummeting homicide rate remain elusive, stymieing economists, criminologists, police, politicians and demographers. Have new police strategies made a difference, or have demographic shifts and population migrations steered the change? Could the reasons be as simple as putting more bad guys behind bars, or does credit go to changes made a generation ago, such as taking the lead out of gasoline or legalizing abortion?

Despite a big jump in the US population, violent crimes have gone way down. And crime from those scary looking assault rifles has gone down, and is actually rather low. This is a good thing. I’ll suggest that one of the reasons for reduced violent crime is the expansion of privately owned guns, especially among women. Instead of being victims, citizens can now fight back.

Yet, elected Democrats want to disarm law abiding citizens, not continue to work to stop criminals. Colorado is close to passing draconian laws, much like New York did, and are even considering banning concealed carry on college campuses. Let’s not forget, forcible sex crimes dropped heavily when people were allowed concealed carry on college campuses.

(Seattle PI) Senators (in Colorado) are also taking up two gun-control measures for the first time. One is a controversial measure by Democratic Senate President John Morse to hold gun sellers and owners liable for potential misuse, such as the commission of a crime.

The other new gun-safety measure up for debate is a Democratic proposal to tighten education standards for people seeking permits to carry concealed firearms.

As more and more of these laws are drafted and possibly passed we see that liberals are not interested in protecting citizens 2nd Amendment rights, as their talking points say, but taking them away. A little cut here, a bigger cut there, and those rights disappear. Meanwhile, criminals would love these laws, since they won’t follow them. Just look at how these draconian laws and regulations work in Chicago.

Rich Paying Their Fair Share And More

Sheesh, more facts get in the way of Obama’s dependence on raising taxes on “the rich” (has he sent a check to the IRS yet?)

(The Blaze) How will households at different income levels pay federal income, payroll, corporate and estate taxes for 2013?

Despite claims that those at the top aren’t paying their “fair share,” the Tax Policy Center reports that the often-maligned “1%” will have an average income of $1.4 million, paying $514,144 in taxes. They’ll foot over 30 percent of the total bill.

The top 20 percent of Americans, meanwhile, will pay nearly 72 percent of the federal tax burden.

Said top 20% have an average income of $204,490, right in the wheelhouse of where Obama and the Donkeys want to increase the tax rate. The middle 20%, with an average income of $46,562, pays 8.6% of the federal burden (this data comes from an AP report).

Yet, Liberals will continue to call for raising taxes on “the rich”. Why? These facts have been roughly the same since those “Bush tax cuts for the rich”. PINO Obama got his tax increase on those making $400k single/$450 joint. He now wants all sorts of taxes out of removing deductions (as he calls them, loopholes, the same things he used himself on his tax returns). He wants to change the capital gains tax to nail “the rich” more. What will this accomplish?

What it looks like is that Rich Democrats have created a way to gin up anger amongst their bat guano insane base to deflect from how damaging Democrat economic policies are.

Watcha Reading?

Since last Sunday I finished Collapse (New America Book one) by Richard Stephenson. Damned good book about what the collapse of America could look like, with idiot politicians all around. Stephenson goes to great pains to avoid political labels. He also uses lots of personal stories with great characters. War with Iran, massive hurricanes, power hungry people, an America in a massive depression, gas $20 a gallon and people can’t afford it to get out of the way of a coming hurricane, so many ideas, and none of them will have you saying “nope, can’t happen.” Really looking forward to the follow up this summer.

Almost done with Darker Things (The Lockman Chronicles 1) by Rob Cornell. Another excellent read, some vampires, werewolves, ghosts, bad mojo, and excellent character development. Good interplay between a retired agent who specialized in taking down darker things, who finds out he has a 13 year old daughter.

Had started Rhubarb by MH Van Keuren, started well, but then just malaised along, never really going anywhere. Many reviewers at Amazon disagree on pacing.

When done with Darker Things, will either move on to Dark Legion, the 2nd book in the series. Or, possibly It’s not Quite Saturday Night at the Cavern.

Warmists At UK Guardian Really Upset About Climate Realist Blogs Included In Weblog Awards

Warmists, being mostly fascists, really hate the idea of opposing viewpoints being out in the public domain, and possibly winning awards

Climate sceptics ‘capture’ the Bloggies’ science category

Ever since 2001, blogs have had their own opportunity to have their moment in the spotlight and chance to bath in adulation. The Weblog Awards – or “Bloggies”, as they’re more affectionately known – start receiving nominations online each January before the organisers announce the shortlists for each category in February.

As with any online voting system, there is always scope for “gaming” the system – as well as a motivation among interest groups to do so. But, despite a glitch in 2003, the Bloggies have largely managed to avoid such controversy.

However, over the past couple of years there has been growing concern about the reliability of the “Science or Technology” category, which was first created in 2011. (Before then, it was known as “Computer and Technology”.) Is it, some ask, being gamed by climate sceptics?

Or, it could be that they’re just more popular. People like getting real information, instead of the mule fritters provided by Warmists. The Bloggies founder, Nikolai Nolan, isn’t happy about this, either

Unfortunately, I have no good solution for it, since they follow proper voting procedures and legitimate science blogs don’t want to make an effort to compete.

Got that? Bloggers who provide actual science and facts and data aren’t “legitimate”. If Warmists could shut them down, they would. We all know that the political left does not like free speech for their opponents.

Of the 17 blogs longlisted in the science or technology category, 13 (by my reckoning – italicised) were either run by climate sceptics, or popular with climate sceptics. (The situation wasn’t quite as stark in the politics category, but the weighting towards climate sceptic blogs – or blogs that are, let’s say, ideologically supportive – was still clear to see.)

And, unsurprisingly, the author, Climate Astrologer Leo Hickman, has never heard of most of the blogs. Perhaps he should expand his horizons.

Here are the science and tech blogs

The ones in italic are the “skeptic” blogs. There are many more which could be added to that list, especially Tom Nelson, who does more with headlines than most do with articles (though, admittedly, a lot is “inside baseball”, where if you’re not familiar with the issue, you won’t get it) and provides linkage to match Instapundit.

And, yeah, the lefties commenting at the Guardian aren’t happy, either.
