Warmist: Fossil Fuels Need To Be Priced Out Of The Market

You can call this fascism, marxism, socialism, communism, whatever you want. Either way, Warmists want Super Big Government to control every aspect of your lives and the private economy. Zhao Zhong, a former nuclear engineer at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the China program coordinator at Pacific Environment, an environmental group, writes an opinion piece over at the NY Times, in context of a debate on whether nuclear energy is the way to go

Price Fossil Fuels Out of the Market

I agree that we should move away from our dependence on greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels at a faster pace and find replacements for our energy needs at magnitudes much greater than current expectations.

The single most important thing we must do is place a high price, or a strict cap, on carbon emissions to make fossil fuel energy less attractive when compared to other energy sources. We are at the beginning stages of capping coal in China but much more needs to be done. If we price coal and other fossil fuels to capture their true costs, it will immediately make all the alternatives to fossil fuels more competitive and drive innovations in the clean energy sector.

This seems to be the thoughts, er, feelings of most Warmists. Funny how they want Everyone Else to suffer for their beliefs, yet they themselves won’t give up their own use of fossil fuels, which they say is Bad.

Man With Largest Footprint In The World* Touts His Clean Energy Agenda

I’ll give you a moment to stop laughing and clean the tears from your eyes….ready? With Obamacare imploding around his ears, with the deficit continuing to skyrocket, with record debt, record numbers of people out of jobs in the long term, historic numbers of Americans giving up on getting a job in despair, running without a budget since he took office, foreign policy a mess, and so much more #Fail, what does he focus on?

(The Hill) President Obama focused on energy independence in his weekly address (video here, text here), following a week dominated by the chaotic rollout of his signature healthcare law.

Obama touted increased natural gas production, more efficient energy use and a drop in carbon emissions in his speech, arguing that lower carbon emissions don’t slow economic growth.

“Between more clean energy, and less wasted energy, our emissions of dangerous carbon pollution are actually falling. That’s good news for anyone who cares about the world we leave to our kids,” he said. “And while our carbon emissions have been dropping, our economy has been growing. Our businesses have created 7.8 million new jobs in the past 44 months. It proves that the old argument that we can’t strengthen the economy and be good stewards of our planet at the same time is a false choice. We can do both. And we have to do both.”

Well, he has the un-scientific idiot term of “dangerous carbon pollution” down pat. It’s neither dangerous nor pollution. Nor is it carbon. Properly, it is is carbon dioxide. A trace gas necessary for life on Earth. Much of the decline can be linked to the horrible economic conditions of the USA, where people came up with a term, “staycation”, for staying home during their vacation instead of traveling.

He also yammers on about how this is creating jobs and stuff. I’ll wait while you clean your screen from spitting your drink on it.

“More good jobs.  Cheaper and cleaner sources of energy.  A secure energy future.  Thanks to the grit and resilience of American businesses and the American people, that’s where we’re heading.  And as long as I’m President, that’s where we’re going to keep heading – to leave our children a stronger economy, and a safer planet,” he concluded.

Remember the list of all the green energy failures under Obama? Heck, Heritage put that together a year ago, and it continues to grow. Several Obama backed green companies have gone down the tubes since then. One of the biggest ones since was Ecotality. Fisker’s cars are catching on fire. His solar auction in Colorado bombed. The Institute for Energy Research determined

But the data are nonetheless revealing: for the over $26 billion committed since 2009, DOE Section 1703 and 1705 loan guarantees have created only 2,298 permanent jobs – that’s $11.45 million per job.

Meanwhile, he won’t approve the full Keystone XL pipeline. They’re lollygagging on fracking and drilling leases. He sends his dog on a separate plan for vacations.

*Obama’s “carbon footprint” is estimated at 41K metric tons. The average American’s is around 19 metric tons. The average for the world is 4 metric tons.

Surprise: Democrat Controlled Senate Won’t Vote On House “Keep Your Plan” Bill

Senate Democrats care so much about the plight of the American people who are losing their plans and being forced into more expensive plans with smaller networks that may not provide anything more than free birth control that they’re rushing to ignore the Upton bill

(The Hill) Senate Democrats do not expect to vote on the ObamaCare fix the House approved on Friday with 39 Democratic votes, according to a senior Democratic aide.

The aide said there is not any pressure on the Senate Democratic leadership to bring the legislation sponsored by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) to the floor.

They say that the Upton bill guts Obamacare

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) has sponsored rival legislation that would require insurance companies to offer the old plans. She has panned Upton’s proposal.

“The House bill guts and undercuts and drives a Mack truck through the Affordable Care Act by not only allowing people that had policies to keep them but allowing new people to sign on,” she said. “Their whole purpose is to undermine and throw the markets out of wack and make the Affordable Care Act not work.”

Without millions, the Team Obama mid-range estimate is that 91 million will lose their insurance, losing their coverage and being forced into the Exchange, especially the young healthies, and paying through the nose, the whole kit n’ kaboodle falls apart, awash in gobs of red ink. The Spite House won’t accept the Upton bill, either. Because they care or something.

As for Landrieu, Hot Air pulled out an old quote of hers, noting that she said she would be 100% accountable for O-care’s success (snicker) or failure. Well, this vote and the quotes by Democrats will be used ad nauseum against Democrats come the mid-term. This vote wasn’t just about allowing people to keep their plans as long as they like, but making Dems either back the American People or back their Party.

Meanwhile, North Carolina has stated that they will speed the resurrection of the cancelled plans. Which is probably more, since many companies were required to change their plans, it’s just something you do not hear about. Interestingly, I had just heard the number being 160,000. WRAL reports the number as 473,000 in the article. Which is not a number they reported in a story previously. Once people have their plans for an extra year, will they want to go through this again? Will it harm Democrats? South Carolina goes a step further in attempting to help the 150K who lost their plans. Ray Farmer, the director of the state’s Insurance Department, said

“We don’t intend to . . . [enforce] federal rules that the federal government won’t even enforce,” Farmer said.

So, they might ignore the federal rules 1 year from now, when the rules are supposed to be reinstated. Might other States follow along?

39 Dems Defect On Keep Your Plan Bill

I’m really not surprised that so few Democrats put Party and Obama over country, but 39 is a good number

(The Hill) The House passed legislation on Friday that allows insurance companies to offer health plans that were cancelled for not meeting new requirements under ObamaCare.

Thirty-nine Democrats broke with their party’s leaders and backed the bill despite a veto threat by the White House, highlighting the political problem the issue has come for President Obama’s party. Only four Republicans opposed it.

This puts 157 on record as saying “screw The People”. They tried to replace it with legislation that would only extend keep your plan for 1 year. Without people getting dropped the legislation breaks down into massive costs.

Over to you now, Dem Senate. Not that Harry Reid will allow a vote.

Is The Left Taking Over Sports Coverage, Too?

That’s the question posed by The Daily Caller’s Matt K. Lewis

Are liberals taking over coverage, too? Increasingly, that’s the way it feels. And it’s not just because Keith Olbermann is back at ESPN.

In just the last year or so, sports has been dominated by stories about NBA player Jason Collins coming out as gay, the Miami Dolphins “bullying” scandal, debates over whether or not “Redskins” is a racial slur (with some outlets refusing to even use the name), and worries over the NFL’s “concussion crisis.” (snip)

The increased politicization of sports was probably the first sign. More and more, it seems, the behind-the-scenes soap opera has overshadowed what’s happening between the lines. (snip)

And if conservatives are upset about this, it may be because this is all they have left. Progressives have long owned Hollywood, and (except maybe for Nashville) most of the popular music industry. Sports were perhaps the bastion for conservative entertainment — the final refuge for the patriotic, beer-guzzling, macho male who just wants to forget about his day job and watch a game — without hearing a lecture. Those days may be over.

It would certainly make sense. The problem for Conservatives is that Progressives have already taken over Hollywood, TV, the Lawyers guild, doctors guild, the education system, the unions, the news media, and government bureaucracies. Sure, not everyone in those industries are lefties, but certainly the leadership, which drives the sectors, are far left people. This was not something that just happened overnight, but a long, sustained campaign. Now they want sports coverage. Next, sports.

New Exciting Warmist Meme: Inequality Of Climate Change

Warmists have always dipped around the edges of inequality as they push “climate change”, which is really just another way to forced Progressive policies on the world. Much of what the UN has attempted to do is redistributive. Lately, though, Warmists have ramped up the push of “inequality”, running it up the flagpole to see if it gains traction

The Inequality of Climate Change

Typhoon Haiyan has left an estimated 10,000 dead (WT note: depending on the source, the death toll is somewhere between 3621 and 4400 as of this morning. While not good, the warmist hysteria about 10K is just that. Hysteria) and hundreds of thousands homeless in the Philippines. And it has once again underscored for many development experts a cruel truth about climate change: It will hit the world’s poorest the hardest.

“No nation will be immune to the impacts of climate change,” said a major World Bank report on the issue last year. “However, the distribution of impacts is likely to be inherently unequal and tilted against many of the world’s poorest regions, which have the least economic, institutional, scientific and technical capacity to cope and adapt.”

What they’re pushing here is the typical leftist redistributive method, yet they themselves tend to be rather stingy with their own money. But by instituting these programs which would tax the hell out of Other People, it gives Government more power.

And many, many others. Then we have this at the Huffington Post: Here’s Proof That Climate Change Is Unfair, Doesn’t Care Who’s At Fault

Typhoon Haiyan Infographic

You can see the full sized graphic over at the HuffPo if you want, but, notice something it doesn’t do: prove anthropogenic causation. Therein lies the cruz of the argument. Warmists say that any change in the weather is Mankind’s fault, you people are big meanies, then they jump in their fossil fueled vehicles to go to a spreading awareness meeting. Climate Realists say changes in climate and weather are the result of mostly/solely natural forces (if they’re honest, they’ll recognize that Man does have a small effect on both the global climate and localized conditions). Warmists want to tax the hell out of Other People and see their lives controlled by Big Government, along with the private economy. Progressivism is an authoritarian political model most resembling fascism. But they won’t really make any changes in their own lives. Makes one wonder what their real endgame is.

Syrian Rebels: Hey, Sorry For Beheading The Wrong Person, Our Bad!

Yeah, these are the people which the Obama administration was supporting in Syria against Bashar Assad

(Telegraph) Syrian rebel fighters linked with Al Qaeda have asked for “understanding and forgiveness” after mistakenly beheading one of their allies and putting the head on display.

In a video posted online, members of Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham were shown holding up the head of what they thought was a supporter of President Bashar Assad before a crowd in Aleppo, The Telegraph reported.

After the video was posted, the head was recognized as belonging to Mohammed Fares, a member of Ahrar al-Sham, a well-established rebel group that regularly fights alongside the Islamic State of Iraq, according to the report.

It was a case of mistaken identity when Fares yelled some names of Shiites revered figures. Most of the opponents of Assad are Sunni. So, they cut his head off and displayed it

(CNN) “He is an Iraqi Shiite volunteer fighter in Bashar al-Assad’s army,” a young man brandishing a knife in one hand and holding the decapitated head in another says in Arabic to a group of men all dressed in black.

“If they (al-Assad’s army) enter they will not distinguish between supporters and opponents. I swear they will rape the men before the woman,” another jihadi fighter continues in the amateur video.

Wow, these are surely the people that America wants to support, wouldn’t you say?

House To Vote On “Keep You Plan” Bill Today

I think it was a Bad Idea to bring this legislation forward: the “Affordable” Care Act is bad legislation, the rules as written by the Obama controlled HHS made it much worse, and the sooner people feel the pain themselves, the sooner we can repeal and replace this fraud of a law pushed by a fraud of a president. And really, what Obama and the Dems pushed on the American people was fraud. Possibly criminal fraud. And intentional attempt to deceive the people of the USA. Anyhow, the Washington Post wonders if the vote will be a test of loyalty for Democrats

The political fallout from the botched launch of the health-care law is presenting congressional Democrats with one of their toughest tests of party loyalty in the five years of the Obama administration.

House Republicans are expected to pass a bill Friday that could dramatically undermine the law. And after years of trying to impale the initiative, GOP leaders are hopeful that the political turmoil over the rollout will provide them the support of a sizable bloc of Democrats.

After Obama’s little PC, for which he was at least 30 minutes late, O’s chief of staff, Denis McDonough, along with some “senior staff”, huddled with the Senate Democrats. Nope, Obama wasn’t present. He gave his speech, his work was done or something. Then they huddled with House Dems

In particular, they urged House Democrats to not support Friday’s GOP bill, which would allow people to keep their old health insurance by extending the “grandfather provisions” of the health-care law to include plans purchased after the law was adopted in 2010. Democrats worry that that would keep millions of people out of the exchanges and decimate the act.

Hmm, interesting that Democrats didn’t talk about needing tens of millions to see their insurance cancelled and forced into the health exchanges/Medicaid in order for the law to work.

A large number of such defections would be a policy blow to the law, but it would be an even more significant political gut punch to the president. The White House on Thursday night said the president would veto the GOP bill if it came to his desk.

Double interesting: it’s being positioned that it is more important to give loyalty to Obama, as if he is a king or something, rather than being elected representatives of The People of the USA.
