Man With Giant Carbon Footprint Visits Glacier, Tells Us We’re Doomed

As you might be aware, Mr. Obama took a long, fossil fueled trip to Alaska to complain about ‘climate change’. This has made many in the Cult of Climastrology squee, and proclaim the doom, such as the NY Times Editorial Board, which focuses on Obama proclaiming that “we’re not acting fast enough”, that the message is urgent, and, hey, look, this glacier is melting!!!, because Obama took a fossil fueled automobile convoy, then on fossil fueled helicopter, followed by a trip on a fossil fueled boat for a nice photo op

(Washington Post) President Obama has often complained that Congress moves at a glacial pace, and on Tuesday saw a glacier that might be moving a bit faster than some pieces of legislation.

Standing near the foot of the Exit Glacier, which has receded 1.25 miles since 1815 and 187 feet last year alone, Obama said “this is as good of a signpost of what we’re dealing with it comes to climate change as just about anything.”

It was the second day of a trip melding a warning message about climate change and visits to some of the nation’s most beautiful spots. In front of a gravelly creek bed, he said that when glaciers retreat, the water runs down and raises sea levels, altering the flora and fauna of the park.

“It is spectacular though,” he said, sporting his aviator sunglasses. “We want to make sure that our grandkids can see this.” Earlier he said it “beats being in the office.”

The president traveled here by helicopter from Anchorage and, dressed in hiking shoes, black slacks and a greenish-gray Under Armour jacket, he went on to take a short hike up to the face of Exit Glacier, a massive two-mile-long ice block that flows down from the larger Harding Icefield.

Our grandparents, and possibly even our great-great grandparents witnessed Exit Glacier retreating, well before CO2 was above the “unsafe” level of 350ppm. Consider this from the National Park Service (via Real Climate Science)

Exit Glacier advanced from the Harding Icefield during the Little Ice Age, burying this existing forest and advancing to a maximum marked by the terminal moraine dated to 1815. With the warming trend of the 1800s, Exit Glacier began to retreat from its 1815 maximum. Very slowly, the glacier retreated 230 feet (70 m) from 1815 to 1889, averaging about 3.1 ft/year (1 m/yr) (see Table 1). The glacier then retreated much more rapidly between 1889-1899, interspersed with periods of stagnation, which are marked by linear moraines (1889, 1891, 1894 and 1899). During this time, the glacier retreated 1680 ft (512 m), about 168 ft/yr (51 m/yr). The next fifteen years was a period of a slow but steady retreat, as the g lacier retreated only 42 ft/yr (13 m/yr). In the years between 1914 and 1917, Exit Glacier experienced its most rapid retreat. In just 3 years, the glacier retreated 908 ft (277 m) or almost a foot per day. From 1917 to 1973, Exit Glacier continued to retreat with periods of slow to moderate retreat. There were five periods of retreat, with the ice melting fastest between 1961 and 1968 (115 ft/yr or 35 m/yr).

Let’s see that in chart form

Interestingly, 1961-1968 was a period of cooling, a “Pause” during the Modern Warm Period. How did all that melt occur before everyone had a fossil fueled vehicle, before washers and dryers, refrigerators and icemakers, hair dryers, air conditioning, and so much more became normal in American households?

In fact, in some of the most recent years, some of the glaciers in the Hartfield Ice Mass, of which Exit Glacier is part of, have shown growth. Regardless, melting glaciers is something one would expect during a Holocene warm period. There’s virtually nothing anthropogenic about it. I say “virtually nothing”, because Mankind does have a small effect, some of it global, some of it in the realm of land use/Urban Heat Island Effect.

Oh, by the way, Washington Post writer Stephen Stromberg is proclaiming Obama is not a hypocrite for yammering about Hotcoldwetdry while allowing new drilling in the Arctic (I never got around to posting the article on this), as several Warmist groups are saying. No mention, though, of him being a massive hypocrite for his fossil fueled travel and massive carbon footprint.

Climate Change Means The Death Of Our World And Start Of Another Or Something

Another day, another scary fable. Many within the Cult of Climastrology have recommended, even pleaded, that Warmists stop with the horror stories of future doom. Don’t expect the Cult to listen, despite the failure to move the needle

Climate Change Means One World’s Death and Another’s Birth

A FEW YEARS ago in a lab in Panama, Klaus Winter tried to conjure the future. A plant physiologist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, he planted seedlings of 10 tropical tree species in small, geodesic greenhouses. Some he allowed to grow in the kind of environment they were used to out in the forest, around 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Others, he subjected to uncomfortably high temperatures. Still others, unbearably high temperatures—up to a daily average temperature of 95 F and a peak of 102 F. That’s about as hot as Earth has ever been.

It’s also the kind of environment tropical trees have a good chance of living in by the end of this century, thanks to climate change. Winter wanted to see how they would do.

Seriously, they are stating that there’s a good chance of a 15+F increase in temperatures within 84 years, despite there only being a 1.4F increase since 1850.

The rest of the article is equally as doomy.

Kate Steinle’s Family Set To File Lawsuit Over Daughter’s Murder By Illegal Alien

There are rumors that the City of San Francisco will also be sued

(ABC7) The family of Kate Steinle is on the verge of filing a lawsuit over her murder. The young woman was shot and killed at San Francisco’s Pier 14 last month. Among those named in the lawsuit will be San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.

The multi-faceted claim will be filed Tuesday morning against Mirkarimi, who released the accused killer Francisco Lopez Sanchez from his jail. The suit also names the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The gun Sanchez is accused of using was stolen from a BLM agent’s car. The family is also suing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE

There’s a press conference scheduled for 11am

The grief-stricken mother of Steinle, Liz Sullivan, spoke with ABC7 News about how the family is dealing with their loss.

“Sometimes we’re together and then sometimes we’re falling apart at the seams,” Sullivan said.

Those who support illegal aliens forget that there are very real people suffering because of the actions of some illegals. They don’t seem to care about the tragedies caused by illegal aliens and those who coddle them, even look away from them, protect them.

Obama Claims It’s Almost To Late Do Something About Hotcoldwetdry

So, in order to fix this, he took a long, long fossil fueled flight to Alaska, accompanied by a backup jumbo jet and military fighter jets, followed by multiple huge caravans of fossil fueled vehicles

(USA Today) President Obama made an ever-more-urgent plea for nations to take action to address climate change Monday, repeatedly telling representatives of Arctic nations meeting in Alaska that “we’re not moving fast enough” to address the challenge.

Kicking off a three-day Alaska trip meant to focus attention on how the Arctic climate affects the rest of the world, Obama used near apocalyptic imagery to drive home his call to action. The result of inaction will be catastrophic in economic and security terms, he said, as more drought, wildfires, floods, leads to more refugees, more conflict and scarce resources.

In Alaska, he said, raging wildfires are helping to thaw the permafrost, releasing carbon dioxide trapped underneath into the atmosphere — “a negative feedback loop, a cycle, warming leading to more warming, that we don’t want to be a part of,” Obama said.

There’s little point in attempting to rebut this, as hysterics caught up in cult-like talking points will never ever listen and see the reality. Nor will they modify their own behavior to match their talking points.

As he has done over the past week, Obama also escalated his criticism of “people who are denying the science of climate change.”

“The time to heed the critics and the cynics and the deniers of climate change is past,” he said. “The time to plead ignorance is surly past. Those who want to ignore the science are increasingly alone. They’re on their own shrinking island.”

In Warmist World, we’re supposed to listen to the Cult of Climastrology experts, who have been consistently wrong, hence the reason to make what are essentially WAGs (wild ass guesses) 50 to 100 years down the road, because they think scary stories of Future Doom work much better than reasoned debate. Oh, and because it’s harder to prove them wrong in the short term over their future prognostications.

However, he is almost right. It’s not “almost too late”, it is 100% too late, because the climate will always change, and Mankind cannot do a damned thing about it.

150 More Hillary Emails Contain Classified Information

Who would have thought that classified and sensitive information would ever be sent to the U.S. Secretary Of State?

(The Hill) Roughly 150 of 7,000 soon-to-be-released pages of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails contain information that is currently classified, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said Monday.

“We have upgraded a number of these,” Toner told reporters during the department’s daily briefing .

“We look at these emails and we upgrade them as necessary as we see fit,” he added. “We stand by our position that the information we upgraded was not marked classified at the time it was sent.”

Of course, it doesn’t matter, per U.S. Statutes, whether they were classified at the time they were sent.

Furthermore, the very fact that information could be later classified is one of the main reasons those who work for the federal government are to use their official State Dept email address, as provided by the State Dept IT department, and approved email devices. Especially the SoS, who would surely be a target of hackers and foreign governments.

And this is the lady who wants to be POTUS, someone who cares not a whit for the proper security procedures.

(Fox News) So if the Clinton denial is to be believed, individuals in her inner circle would have simply typed or scanned classified information into a non-classified system without regard for its contents. In this case, emails would have started in, and stayed in, the unclassified system — albeit improperly, based on the findings of the intelligence inspector general.

But if it turns out emails literally jumped from the classified to the non-classified system — something the State Department claims cannot happen — it would seem to point to Clinton’s staff going to great lengths to create a work-around to do so.

A government employee doing so would commit numerous felonies, according to Bradford Higgins, who served as assistant secretary of state for resource management and chief financial officer from 2006-2009. “A violation, in addition to criminal charges and potential prosecution, would likely mean that person who committed the breach would never again be given a security clearance,” Higgins said.

A huge number of the emails have been redacted, so we can assume that they contain….classified information. And possibly some very embarrassing information. Even emails about meeting Michael Bloomberg (via Legal Insurrection)

LI’s Amy Miller notes

So far, the content that has been reviewed thus far is incriminating both from a transparency standpoint, and from a PR standpoint. Sharyl Attkisson found several e-mails that should have been released back in 2012 as part of a large-scale FOIA request for information about Benghazi. Several other outlets, including The Blaze, noted at least one highly-redacted email that instructed its recipients to both not forward, and to delete the message after reading:

If a lower level Federal employee was doing this, or if high level civilian employees of companies were doing this, they would be facing huge legal repercussions.

And Hillary was super happy to have her new, unapproved by State IT, iPad!

Warmists Now Claim Persian Gulf Might Get Cyclones

The crystal ball is working overtime

(Yahoo News) Climate change is bringing small risks that tropical cyclones will form in the Persian Gulf for the first time, in a threat to cities such as Dubai or Doha which are unprepared for big storm surges, a U.S. study said on Monday.

Tampa in Florida and Cairns in Australia, two places where cyclones already happen, would be increasingly vulnerable to extreme storms this century, according to the report, based on thousands of computer models.

The shallow and warm waters of the Persian Gulf, where cyclones have never been recorded, might generate the storms in future as a side-effect of global warming, according to the study in the journal Nature Climate Change.

We’re Totally Locked In To A 3 Foot Sea Rise Or Something

Hyperventibloviation over at CNN from 1 expert

Expert: We’re ‘locked-in’ to 3 feet sea level rise

It was less than two years ago that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its all-encompassing assessment on the current state of climate change research and made projections for the future climate of our planet.

According to the latest from NASA, however, the projections the panel made for a rise in global sea levels of 1 to 3 feet may already be outdated.

According to Steven Nerem of the University of Colorado, we are “locked into at least 3 feet of sea level rise, and probably more.”

Nerem said experts now think a rise in sea levels toward “the higher end of that range is more likely, and the question remains how that range might have to shift upwards.” (snip)

There are three main causes for rising sea levels: The expansion of warmer ocean water, melting mountain glaciers, and ice loss from the massive Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.

Of course, CNN eludes to this all being caused by Mankind’s greenhouse gas output, despite this having all happened before. Despite the 20th Century seeing just 7 inches of sea rise, when it should have seen at least double that to be a very warm Holocene warm period. Oh, and

(No Tricks Zone)  It appears the NOAA also agrees that sea level rise is not happening any where near as fast as many among us would like to think it is. At its site here, it writes the following n(my emphasis):

The graphs compare the 95% confidence intervals of relative mean sea level trends for CO-OPS and global stations. Trends with the narrowest confidence intervals are based on the longest data sets. Trends with the widest confidence intervals are based on only 30-40 years of data. The graphs can provide an overarching indication of the differing rates of regional vertical land motion, given that the absolute global sea level rise is believed to be 1.7-1.8 millimeters/year. Note that they are relative sea level trends, and are not corrected for local land movement. The calculated trends for all CO-OPS stations are available as a table in millimeters/year and in feet/century. A complete table of non-CO-OPS station trends are available as a table in millimeters/year and in feet/century.”

Hurry up and read it before this gets taken down! To be on the safe side I’ve cut out the location of interest:

Even if sea rise was high, it still wouldn’t prove mostly/solely anthropogenic causation. Just what’s been going on throughout the Holocene, not too mention the rest of Earth’s history. If we do the math, it gives us 151 millimeters, using the 1.8 figure, by 2100. That equals……..just under 6 inches over the next 84 years. So, pretty much what we saw during the 20th century, and exactly average for the last 7,000 years.

Special Ringmaster Marilyn Mosby Totally Knows How To Reduce Baltimore’s Massive Murder Rate

She does!

(Baltimore Sun) Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby on Sunday addressed the city’s historic spike in homicides in an interview on WBAL-TV.

In July, 45 people were killed — the highest number in modern history. The city is on pace for more than 300 killings this year.

Mosby said the key to driving down the murder rate is for prosecutors and police to re-establish trust with the community.

She noted her prosecutors have recently sent several killers behind bars for life, and are partnering with city police on a new “War Room” initiative — in which city and federal agencies work in close collaboration.

Oh, you thought she was actually going to go out to stop crime, instituting strong policing measures, perhaps reaching out to the community and telling them to stop being so criminal. Nope. Arresting them afterwards and sending them to jail has nothing to do with stopping the crimes in the first place.

Perhaps Mosby could have a talk with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake about rescinding her “giving space to those who wish to destroy” notion.

“This is the home of witness intimidation, where that ‘Stop Snitching’ mentality began,” Mosby said. “We have to build the trust of the community back up. … We’re absolutely on top of it.”

That mentality has nothing to do with the police and prosecutors: it has everything to do with the criminality of the citizens. This soft approach is not working, as witnessed during July. Perhaps there should be some concern that almost every single person murdered in Baltimore is Black, and the majority of the known killers are Black.

August hasn’t exactly been a good month either. And another person, Black, was murdered early Sunday. This is not the fault of the police and prosecutors, nor is community outreach going to stop anything.
