Precious Snowflakes Sue Obama Administration Over “Climate Change”

This is a funny case of “hoist on your petard”. Obama has been whining about “climate change” for his entire time in office, and even before. He’s even thrown a few bones the way of the Cult of Climastrology. This goes for John Kerry, as well. Yet…

Youth Sue Obama Administration For Allowing Climate Change, Violating Constitutional Rights
“We have a moral obligation to leave a healthy planet for future generations.”

Twenty-one young people from around the country filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration on Tuesday accusing the federal government of violating their rights by contributing to climate change through the promotion of fossil fuels.

The plaintiffs, who range in age from 8 to 19, filed their complaint in U.S. District Court in Oregon. The complaint lists numerous defendants, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, the Department of Energy, the Department of the Interior, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Defendants have for decades ignored their own plans for stopping the dangerous destabilization of our nation’s climate system,” the plaintiffs said in their complaint, which was filed with the help of the Oregon-based nonprofit Our Children’s Trust. “Defendants have known of the unusually dangerous risk of harm to human life, liberty, and property that would be caused by continued fossil fuel use and increase [carbon dioxide] emissions.”

And what is the point of all this?

But in the eyes of Olson and the plaintiffs, that’s not enough. They are asking for a court order to force Obama to immediately implement a national plan to decrease atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide to 350 parts per million — a level many scientists agree is the highest safe concentration permissible — by the end of this century. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has already hit 400 parts per million.

They are very, very upset over the use of fossil fuels. Very upset

(Julia) Olson, a public interest attorney, has been working closely with plaintiff Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, 15, since 2011. It was Martinez who originally asked Olson to prepare the case against the United States government.

Martinez, who serves as the youth director for Earth Guardians, spoke before the United Nations General Assembly in June and demanded world leaders take action against climate change. It was his third time addressing the United Nations.

It’s a long way from Boulder, Colorado to New York City. Did Martinez walk or ride a bike? Most likely, we can say with 97% confidence that he took fossil fueled flights. Which would violate his own Constitutional rights according to the lawsuit!

It will be amusing seeing Obama, Kerry, et all defend themselves against this suit.

#BlackLivesMatter Activists Are “Getting Their Message (Of Violence) Across

Did you know that two activists protesting the death of Michael Brown (a punk kid who robbed a store, assaulted a police officer, attempted to take his gun, ran away when it went off, then stupidly charged the police officer, resulting in Brown being shot and killed) where arrested for violence?

(St Louis Post-Dispatch) A prominent figure in the Ferguson protest movement posted bail late Wednesday afternoon and departed the St. Louis County Justice into the arms of cheering supporters who had just ended a brief demonstration on her behalf.

“It’s beautiful,” said Brittany Ferrell, accepting hugs from some of the 75 demonstrators who just moments before had locked arms before a small contingent of Clayton police officers positioned outside the South Central Avenue entrance to the jail.

What were the hugs for?

Ferrell, 26, was freed after posting 10 percent of the $10,000 bail imposed after she was charged with felony property damage, trespass and peace disturbance.

The charges stem from what authorities said was an attack on a SUV driver who attempted to push past Ferrell and other demonstrators blocking Interstate 70 in Earth City on Monday afternoon.

Another activist, Alexis Templeton, 21, was charged with third-degree assault, trespassing on the interstate and peace disturbance. She was released earlier Wednesday afternoon.

The #BlackLivesMatter crowd blocked the I-70 during rush hour Monday, and one driver had had enough, and was slowly trying to force her way through. Templeton (a woman) punched her in the face through her car window, giving the driver a black eye. Ferrell kicked her car, causing $5,000 in damage. This is what they were celebrating with hugs and stuff. Violence against “Whitey”.

The purpose of the Monday highway protest, (Mike, another charged with trespass) said, was to delay westbound rush hour motorists bound for St. Charles, a county he described as a destination for “white flight.”

That’s a rather racist statement, but, hey, can you blame them for bailing when they see these Black activists loot, pillage, riot, and burn their own neighborhoods? When there is violence, shootings, and murders?

“I think we’re getting the message across,” said Mike.

Yes, you are, a message of violence.

Interestingly, they’re acting just like their (criminal) martyr, Michael Brown. Running ruffshod over society, punching people in cars.

California Gives Even More “Rights” To Illegal Aliens

Why not just give California to Mexico at this point?

California gives immigrants here illegally unprecedented rights, benefits, protections

It started with in-state tuition. Then came driver’s licenses, new rules designed to limit deportations and state-funded healthcare for children. And on Monday, in a gesture heavy with symbolism, came a new law to erase the word “alien” from California’s labor code.

Together, these piecemeal measures have taken on a significance greater than their individual parts — a fundamental shift in the relationship between California and its residents who live in the country illegally. The various benefits, rights and protections add up to something experts liken to a kind of California citizenship.

Democratic lawmakers and immigration activists, with diminishing opposition from the GOP, continue to seek new laws and protections. These measures include cracking down on employers withholding pay from low-wage workers and expanding state-subsidized healthcare to adult immigrants without papers.

It’s not like at least a third of California prisons are holding violent criminal illegal aliens or something.

A few comments from Californians

  • Does anyone find it odd that an American citizen who wrote a bad check at age 18, cannot get a license to cut hair or clean teeth ? In the meantime, an illegal alien with multiple murders in Mexico, can become a lawyer, get a home loan, and of course a California Drivers License. Have you noticed the increased traffic in LA, while the hit-and-run rate is rarely reported in the press and hovers above 50%, because illegal aliens can now get a drivers license without buying insurance. Instead of carefully driving to and from work because they are unlicensed and their car will be impounded, they now can go anywhere, anytime with their worst penalty from a nasty officer being a $25 fix-it ticket for failure to provide proof of insurance, when in fact they are uninsured. Welfare checks and full union membership is coming.
  • Wonder if the DOJ will go after Brown and legislative Democrats as they went after Arizona for legislating against federal law?
  • It does not mean much to be a American Citizen anymore in California. Everything the D’s do here in CA are to benefit them. This insures the votes to keep them in office. This also insures they have a cheap work force to cut the grass, clean the office and cook them dinner. Ever notice where the sanctuary cities are they are heavily D’s? Again there are no benefits to be a citizen. Sad really.

Of course, what California does will end up costing the taxpayers in the rest of the country.

Warmists Decide Sunspots Are Inconvenient, Change Up Data

The sun has always been one of the prime drivers for the weather, which creates climate in the long-term. This has been inconvenient for the Cult of Climastrology. So, what is a good little cultist to do?

(CBS News) Sunspots have long been used by climate skeptics to explain away a rise in global temperatures.
They argued that solar activity appeared to trend upwards over the past 300 years, on pace with global temperatures, peaking in the late 20th century. This, adherents say, demonstrates that the sun has played a significant role in modern climate change.

But now a group of scientists has found that one method for counting sunspots — as a measure of solar activity — was wrong. Called the Group Sunspot Number, this method showed a rise in sunspots from 1885 to 1945 culminating in what is called the Modern Grand Maximum.

By recalibrating that method in what they call Sunspot Number Version 2.0, Frédéric Clette, director of the World Data Centre, Ed Cliver of the National Solar Observatory and Leif Svalgaard of Stanford University, concluded that sunspot activity had been relatively stable since the 1700s and that there was no Modern Grand Maximum.

The team, which presented its results at the International Astronomical Union in Hawaii, said the findings closely mirror another historical record for sunspot activity, the Wolf Sunspot Number.

The latest findings make it difficult to explain the observed changes in the climate that started in the 18th century and extended through the Industrial Revolution to the 20th century as being significantly influenced by natural solar trends.

Surprise!

Say, Where Do Presidential Candidates Stand On The Subject Of Hotcoldwetdry?

Now, many Conservatives and Republicans may be thinking “this whole climate change issue is meaningless, and better left off the agenda for the debates”. At surface level, they seem correct. When it comes to polls on what Americans care about, climate change is almost always dead last or next to last. However, the Cult Of Climastrology will never give up on their push, because it is not about science, or protecting the environment, or limiting the temperature of the Earth to no more than a 2C increase (interestingly, none of their proposals would address this). This is about politics, and implementing regressive, authoritarian policies, being the Progressives (nice fascists) that they are. Policies that would control the lives of citizens, private entities, and economies, shifting more and more power to a centralized governmental system.

So, it is important to understand where candidates stand on this issue

(NPR) Last week, President Obama released a plan to cut carbon emissions from power plants. Climate change has also been cropping up on the presidential campaign trail — both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have released their own proposals.

Nearly three-quarters of Americans now favor government action on climate change, but the candidates — and big donors who support them — still range widely in opinion. Some call it a hoax and oppose government action, while others have called for sweeping change.

Many are for action, until they learn of the cost of living increases and loss of freedom associated with those policies.

“It’s actually quite remarkable how stable opinions have been,” said Jon Krosnick, a Stanford professor who has surveyed Americans about global warming for the past two decades. “The vast majority of Americans have said they think the planet’s been warming over the past 100 years and attribute that, at least partly, to human activity as the cause.”

Count me, and most Skeptics, in that majority. It’s just that we say that mankind only plays a small role, and quite a bit of that is from land use and the Urban Heat Island Effect (not to mention massaged data).

Despite the fact that the majority of Americans believe in climate change, only around 4 out of 10 Americans said Obama and Congress should view global warming as a top priority in 2015, according to a Pew Research Center poll. Most Americans thought the economy and fighting terrorism were top priorities.

In that poll, climate change came in next to last.

As for where the candidates land, well, hit the link for the full details, being a huge layout. There are six questions

  1. HAS SAID CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL
  2. HAS SAID CLIMATE CHANGE IS MAN MADE
  3. HAS CALLED FOR SOME DEGREE OF ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE
  4. HAS EXPLICITLY SAID HE/SHE WILL COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE IF ELECTED
  5. HAS MADE SPECIFIC PROPOSALS TO REDUCE EMISSIONS
  6. OPPOSES KEYSTONE XL

Climate change is real. That is not the debate. It’s about causation. Again, Mankind does play a small role. And there is nothing wrong with reducing some emissions, particularly from methane and several other strong greenhouse gases. But, giving massive control to the federal government, along with policies that increase the cost of living, which primarily harms low and middle income citizens, are bad ideas.

For Republicans, would you guess that Bobby Jindal’s record as a Warmist is worse than Lindsay Graham’s? Neither seems to be gaining traction. Jindal could, potentially, but Graham is going nowhere fast. George Pataki’s record is pretty bad, as well, but, he’s not a front runner, and won’t be. John Kasich is, and he has called for some measures on Hotcoldwetdry. He just doesn’t want any that could negatively affect the economy. People need to ask him some very pointed questions. This goes for Jeb Bush.

For Republican voters, whether a candidate believes Mankind plays a role is immaterial: it’s whether they would institute policies. And, BTW, none are against Keystone XL.

Team Obama To Push Iran Deal Hard During His Vacation

I’m sure many elected lawmakers will appreciate a call with the “thwack” of golf balls being hit in the background

(The Hill) The White House and its allies are redoubling their efforts to win support for the Iran nuclear deal during President Obama’s two-week vacation at Martha’s Vineyard.

Obama’s vacation represents an opportunity of sorts for opponents, since the president’s bully pulpit will be relatively silent.

Over the break, opponents are blanketing TV airwaves with commercials attacking the deal as they seek to raise pressure on lawmakers to oppose it.

To counter that effort, Obama is expected to make additional calls to undecided lawmakers to get them to support the deal during his vacation.

White House officials are also calling lawmakers over the five-week congressional recess.

One has to wonder: if this deal is so darned good, why the need to convince people on its merits?

Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz — the top two U.S. negotiators with Iran and the administration’s most active salesmen — convened a rare roundtable with reporters from regional newspapers on Monday to talk up the agreement.

Three of the papers invited to attend are from New York, allowing top administration officials to rebut Sen. Charles Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) argument against the deal to readers in his home state. Schumer, the only Senate Democrat to announce his opposition so far, has called on the administration to negotiate a better deal.

“It is absolutely mistaken for somebody to assert that ‘Oh, we’ll get a better deal,’” Kerry said, according to the Buffalo News.

At this point, they’re almost right. Kerry and his team, certainly with help from Obama, crafted this horrendous peace of garbage that provides almost nothing for the needs and wants of the United States, while giving the farm away to Iran. It only pushes the threat of a nuclear armed Iran down the road, provided they do not cheat. It fails to address the horrendous human rights problems in Iran (it is always strange that liberals, the self-described champions of gays and women, refuse to condemn Iran). Team Obama has created a situation where, if this bad deal is scuttled, Iran won’t bother with another.

Democrats are being asked for, and are giving, their support to the deal simply because Obama is a Democrat. They aren’t bothering to consider the negative implications for America’s security, nor the danger of an Iran flush with cash. If Obama was a Republican, they’d be dead set against this deal, some because it is a bad deal. And Republicans would be against the deal on the merits. At the end of the day, Democrats will own this disastrous deal. Every poll shows Americans are against this deal. Even in New York City.

But, even Democrats are coming to the conclusion that the deal is a bad one. In a Monmouth poll, only 41% of Democrats want this deal passed.

Fortunately, Iran would never use goods it can obtain once sanctions are lifted for oppression, torture, and terrorism. Right?

Good Grief: Illegal Aliens File Tort For Being Detainted

OK, fine, ship them back to their home countries. Immediately….oh, hey, wait, this would be Obama’s fault, since he’s in charge

(AP)  Five immigrant mothers held in facilities with their children are seeking millions of dollars in damages from the U.S. government for what they contend is psychological and physical harm as a result of being detained, according to court papers filed Monday.

Andrew Free, a Nashville immigration lawyer representing the women, filed tort claims against the Department of Homeland Security, alleging the detained women and their children received inadequate medical care, suffered psychological trauma and in some cases were wrongfully imprisoned.

The tort includes Customs and Borders and ICE, both of which roll up to Obama.

But, seriously, they filed because they were detained because they are illegals.

But Free said that the reality of family detention is far different and that the government has “fallen below the standard of care that they owe to these detainees,” as well as violated their rights as asylum seekers by using detention as a deterrent.

Yet, they came illegally. They should have been deported immediately. From the comments

The nerve of these miscreants is beyond belief…you sneak into a country illegally, are fed and housed and receive medical care – all free – then have the unmitigated gall to complain and sue!

Boom.

Climate Change Is A Demanding, Demurring Moral Question Or Something

Maxwell, Dotson, who’s an “Activist, entrepreneur, millennial”, is totally concerned with Hotcoldwetdry, and finds it to be a moral issue, writing at the Huffington Post. After the standards whines, like

Throughout the United States, current problems and future concerns include droughts (like the current conditions in California), heat-waves, rising sea levels, floods (like the tragic flooding in Texas), increases in both the size and intensity of storms (think more Superstorm Sandys) among others. (see? Hotcoldwetdry!)

we get

We must call climate change what it is — a demanding, demurring moral question. While the calculus for effectively weighing this question is nebulous at best, the necessity of action is clear. The current state, according to Stephen Gardiner of Washington University, a leading voice in the discussion, is a “perfect moral storm” where a convergence of extenuating factors, incentive misalignments and environmental realities creates a system our current ethical and governmental structures are powerless to address.

If it’s so moral, why are Cult Of Climastrology members not making changes in their own lives?
