Rochester mayor: Minnesota cities can’t carry the cost of climate change alone
As mayor of Rochester, I’m proud of the work we are doing locally to address climate change and promote sustainability. But as Minnesotans swelter through this recent heat wave and suffer from terrible air quality, I’m reminded that cities cannot carry the costs of climate change alone.
Much of our state was under an extreme heat warning last week and into this week, and temperatures are expected to spike again later this week. Temperatures are reaching the upper 90s with oppressive humidity. This kind of heat doesn’t let up when the sun goes down. It gives little chance for our homes to cool down, and provides little respite for our public infrastructure.
Cities like Rochester face mounting costs when extreme heat strikes, posing a health emergency for our residents and an all-hands-on-deck response from city staff. We operate public buildings and transportation systems that become critical cooling centers when families need them most. We maintain streets, pipes, utilities and water systems that are stressed by high temperatures, humidity and extreme rainfalls that come with our more volatile weather.
You should start with banning all fossil fueled vehicles and air conditioning. Oh, and any heating that comes from natural gas.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Lawmakers should hold these companies accountable and create a climate superfund to help local governments prepare for climate change.
One idea worth serious consideration is creating a climate superfund which would require fossil fuel polluters to pay to clean up the mess they knowingly caused. It would give state and local governments money to adapt to the changing climate, while limiting the burden on Minnesota families.
Cities will continue to do our part. Rochester will continue to cut emissions where we can, conserve energy and grow our tree canopy. We’ll continue working toward making our community a healthier, more sustainable place for our kids and grandkids to live.
Well, hey, maybe you should shut down Rochester International Airport, eh? But, good luck on the polluter pays thing, because they are already being shot down in court, and, get this, people like you, mayor Kim Norton, would actually be polluters per climate cult dogma.
As long as we’re throwing out ideas to “stop” the “climate crisis” in Rochester, shut down the Mayo Clinic.

If you’ve been to Rochester, you’ve missed out. It’s actually a small town, but home of the prestigious Mayo Clinic (hence the need for an international airport). It’s smaller than Springfield MO or High Point NC.
The “Other People” would be all of us, because corporations do not pay any taxes; they simply pass the costs of doing business down to the consumers of their products. Corporations have to do that, or they lose money and go out of business.
Our good friends on the left waxed wroth that President Trump tried to put tariffs on foreign-made products, to give a competitive advantage in those industries, saying, truthfully, that the tariffs would be a tax on American consumers. Yet those same good friends on the left seem to think nothing of putting added fees on those evil ol’ corporations, which would do exactly the same thing, be an additional tax on American consumers, but this time without any possible competition to reduce prices for anyone.

Vance Boelter was a registered Republican at one time and is a “a conservative who voted for President Donald Trump and was strongly against abortion rights”, who had created a false persona as a former military man. He founded an evangelical nonprofit, Revoformation Ministries to teach Muslims that violence was not the way.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota man who pleaded guilty to assassinating a top Democratic lawmaker and her husband is set to be sentenced in federal court Thursday.
Vance Boelter, 59, agreed to plead guilty in June, almost a year after the Minneapolis-area attacks when he stalked and assassinated House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and critically wounded state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette.
Boelter’s SUV was left in the Hortmans’ driveway and contained a list of about 70 potential targets, including “abortion providers, pro-abortion rights advocates, and Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other states”.
Boelter pleaded guilty to six counts so federal prosecutors would not seek the death penalty; instead, he agreed to serve two consecutive life sentences, plus 40 years. Prosecutors and federal defenders said it was the maximum sentence he could be issued short of the death penalty.

Funny how all climate change solutions eventually become some sort of wealth transfer. Climate loons all want someone else to pay them for things like producing energy, but never themselves for using that same energy and creating demand for it.
So funny that the mayor criticizes the energy companies that power their air conditioning while boasting about how they are running their air conditioners in public buildings.
