GOP Platform Proposes To “Get Rid Of National Parks And Forests” Or Something

Hey, who doesn’t like national forests and national parks? Personally, I think it’s great that we have them to protect the environment along with special places. However, there’s something a bit unhinged (shockingly) from this Jenny Rowland article in the Climate section of Think Progress

GOP Platform Proposes To Get Rid Of National Parks And National Forests

The Republican platform committee met this week to draft the document that defines the party’s official principles and policies. Along with provisions on pornography and LGBT “conversion therapy” is an amendment calling for the indiscriminate and immediate disposal of national public lands.

The inclusion of this provision in the Republican Party’s platform reflects the growing influence of and ideological alliance between several anti-park members of the GOP and anti-government extremists, led by Cliven Bundy, who dispute the federal government’s authority over national public lands.

“Congress shall immediately pass universal legislation providing a timely and orderly mechanism requiring the federal government to convey certain federally controlled public lands to the states,” reads the adopted language. “We call upon all national and state leaders and representatives to exert their utmost power and influence to urge the transfer of those lands identified.”

The provision calls for an immediate full-scale disposal of “certain” public lands, without defining which lands it would apply to, leaving national parks, wilderness areas, wildlife refuges, and national forests apparently up for grabs and vulnerable to development, privatization, or transfer to state ownership.

In reality, what this aims to do is return certain lands back to the states, where it belongs. Why?

In most of the Northeast and South, where the only federal presence is the occasional military base or national park, complaints that the government owns too much land seem laughable.

But out west, the government lays claim to huge, state-sized swaths of land—more than 630 million acres, greater than the landmass of Texas, California, Florida and New York combined. In some states, government agencies are the biggest landowner; in Nevada, 80 percent of land is federally owned.

There’s a map at the link that highlights just how much land the government owns out west, which has long been a bone of contention among people in those areas. Is a state really a state when Los Federales own 80%? Most of it is not a national park or national forest. It’s just land that is owned and unused.

But, as typical, the hysterics on the left are hysterical. You shouldn’t expect different.

NY TImes: Hurricane Activity Has Been Quiet, But, EVERYBODY PANIC, IT’S COMING SOON! Or Something

There is so, so much nuttbaggery in this op-ed by Adam Sobel, I don’t know where to stop. Virtually the entire damned thing could be fisked, but, hey, I’m trying to run off to the gym before this t-storm (caused by my neighbor driving her fossil fueled mini-van) hits

(NY Times) THE United States coastline has been calm so far this hurricane season, just as it has been over the last decade. Since 2005, the year of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, the country has been in a hurricane “drought,” with no major hurricane (Category 3 or above, meaning winds above 110 miles per hour) making landfall. The nation’s most hurricane-prone regions, the Southeast and Gulf Coasts, have been eerily quiet.

Even so, climate scientists like me believe that human-induced climate change will strengthen hurricanes and lead to worse disasters. We know that significant global warming, over a degree and a half Fahrenheit, has already occurred since preindustrial days. So where, you might ask, are the powerful hurricanes?

They’re coming, if we don’t take more aggressive action to slow climate change.

See? They’ve been totally wrong before, like the last 11 years, but, they’ll be totally right in the future. Their computer models tell them so! So, give up your freedom and money to pay tithe to the Cult of Climastrology.

What we have seen recently is consistent with our scientific understanding of hurricanes and climate. That knowledge is far from perfect, but the prediction of stronger future hurricanes is not contradicted by the data thus far.

I’m not even going to delve deep here, I’ve done it numerous times. What has happened is exactly the opposite of what was predicted by unhinged Warmists after a lively early 21st Century, especially after 2005. But, hey, it’s now time for them to get cute

The Atlantic Ocean, where hurricanes affecting the United States arise, generates only a little over 10 percent of the planet’s tropical cyclones…

So, suddenly, the Atlantic doesn’t matter, much like when Warmists scream about hot days in Alaska, drought in California, then, when that changes, they say “eh. Just a tiny part of the Earth.”

You’re welcome to read the rest of the unhinged Warmist propaganda based on models and wishful thinking. I’d also recommend reading Climate Change Dispatch, which takes on this op-ed. Let’s end with the final wackadoodleness

Barring global emissions reductions much larger than anything agreed on in the Paris climate accord (or the development of carbon-capture technology on a significant scale), greenhouse gas concentrations will continue to increase. And without the compensating effect of increasing aerosol emissions, the warming of the future, more than the warming of the recent past, will strengthen the most powerful and destructive storms that the planet can produce.

Say, What Would It Take To Make Warmists Take Personal Action On Hotcoldwetdry?

It’s funny that this question has to be asked time and again. It simply highlights that so few Warmists are willing to make more than token changes in their own lives to match the cult-like beliefs they espouse for Everyone Else

What Would It Take to Make You Do Something About Climate Change?

Bad news if you like living on Planet Earth. According to a report from the Committee on Climate Change, things are looking pretty bleak on the environmental front. If we carry on refusing to recycle or travel everywhere by bike, the worst-case scenario could see us hit with 118-degree heat waves, widespread flooding, and other hellish symptoms of global warming as early as the 2080s.

If this happens, we’ll finally be able say “I told you so” to all the annoying people who refuse to acknowledge that climate change is, you know, a thing. But despite that huge bonus, climate-stoked wars, new diseases, food and water shortages would make it a pointless victory unless we make some drastic changes to the way we live our lives, and soon.

Even though a lot of people say global warming is important to them, we’re slowly boiling in our own filth because nobody seems to be doing all that much about it. To find out how screwed we are, I asked a bunch of people on the streets of London what it’s actually going to take to get people to care about the state of the planet.

Boiling in our own filth!!!!!!!1!!!!

Anyhow, there’s Yonn, 20 years old, who eats less meat and stuff

It’s difficult because I don’t think protesting really changes anything. I think we just have to change the way we act every day. People really need to start getting out of their comfort zones, because not enough people think about it seriously at the moment. But also, the people who have an influence on the world, like politicians and economists, should think a little less about making money and more about the Earth, otherwise nothing will change.

And Emily, 42

So unless it’s like a governmental thing that changes stuff, nothing’s going to happen, and it might be pretty unpleasant for a while until then. If we were all going to be doing something, we should have been doing it fifty years ago. I don’t think the UK can save the world, or ourselves, really.

And Joseph, 19, who has lots of arguments with his family over ‘climate change’

We all need to wake up and start caring, though, and stop being so apathetic, because the way we’re moving is going nowhere positive. We all need to make a conscious effort, and actually realize what we’re doing to our planet.

There are a few other people mention, who super care about the issue and want to see something done, but, are really only taking token steps in their own lives, but, interestingly, note that, for the most part, they talk about “we” rather than “I”. They want everyone else to be forced into this, to do things they themselves won’t do. Even though we’re “boiling in our own filth” for refusing to give up fossil fueled vehicles and take bikes.

Washington State Eatery Asks Law Enforcement To Stay Away

And the law enforcement involved handled this in the correct fashion

(Fox News/AP) The sheriff of a county about 70 miles north of Seattle says a restaurant owner has asked that law enforcement no longer dine there.

Skagit County Sheriff Will Reichardt said on Facebook that after four deputies finished lunch at Lucky’s Teriyaki in Sedro-Woolley Thursday, the owner asked them not to eat there anymore.

Reichardt says the deputies were told that customers didn’t like law enforcement there. The sheriff says his chief deputy called the owner later Thursday and says the request was confirmed along with a request to spread the word among other law enforcement agencies.

The PD says fine, they’ll go elsewhere, but, hey, if the restaurant needs their help, they won’t hold a grudge. Because that’s their job, and they’ll perform it.

(embedding is not cooperating, you can see the post here)

Here’s the wild thing: they did not report Lucky’s Teriyaki to the State for discrimination, much like many bakers have been reported for refusing to bake cakes for gay weddings. Rather than forcing Lucky’s to serve them, the police just said “OK, sparky, have it your way” and moved on.

Of course, now that this has gone viral, Lucky’s might find their customer base shrinking.

Bastille Day Terrorist Reportedly Of Tunisian Origin

This all probably means he’s a Quaker, NRA member, and an original TEA Partier, ya know

(Sputnik News) The driver of the truck that killed at least 80 people in Nice on Thursday evening was a 31-year-old resident born in Tunisia, according to French newspaper Nice Matin.

The report from Matin, per Jihad Watch, says in a translation

A 31-year-old Niçois of Tunisian origin was driving the truck that claimed over 70 people on the Prom in Nice on Thursday night.

The Frenchman was 31 years old.

According to our information, it was a Niçois from Tunisia who drove the truck. The young man of 31 years also fired on the crowd as he drove. More than 70 people died.

Liberals will obviously think the best do their damned best to protect hardcore Islamic murderers, because that’s what they do. “Perhaps this guy is part of the tiny, tiny community in Tunisia that is Christian or Jew! It could happen! Just because 99% of Tunisia is Sunni Muslim, that’s no reason to go Islamophobia, you hateful conservatives!”

Meanwhile, lots of devout Muslims were celebrating the attack, via Pamela Geller. Pam also notes all the ISIS and al Qaeda propaganda calling for exactly these types of attacks back in 2010 and 2014. Daesh (also known as ISIS/ISIL) spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani said in 2014

If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him. Do not lack. Do not be contemptible. Let your slogan be, “May I not be saved if the cross worshipper and taghūt (ruler ruling by manmade laws) patron survives.”

If you are unable to do so, then burn his home, car, or business. Or destroy his crops.

If you are unable to do so, then spit in his face. If your self refuses to do so, while your brothers are being bombarded and killed, and while their blood and wealth everywhere is deemed lawful by their enemies, then review your religion. You are in a dangerous condition because the religion cannot be established without walā’ and barā’.

The ever growing sector of radical Islam is incompatible with Western values and society, yet, they keep being let in. Democrats are more horrified, though, that Newt Gingrich would want to make sure the Muslims here in America are loyal to Sharia law or America. For liberals, a terrorist attack by Muslims is something that needs to be swept under the rug in the name of diversity and multiculturalism. And they’ll deflect to other issues to make that happen. Just watch.

Breaking: Scores Dead, Injured In Nice, France Terrorist Attack

Update: News is reporting at least 73 murdered. Also, the truck was supposedly chock full of guns and grenades.

It might be worth considering that had just identified the real leader of the previous Paris Islamist terrorist attack.

(Fox News/AP) A large truck drove into a crowd of people who had gathered for a Bastille Day fireworks show Thursday in the southern French city of Nice, killing at least 30 people and injuring 100 more in an apparent terror attack, officials said.

A police official told France’s BFM TV that the driver of the truck was also dead. A witness, Wassim Bouhlel, told the Associated Press that he saw the truck drive into the crowd, then witnessed the driver emerge with a gun and start shooting.

“There was carnage on the road,” Bouhlel said. “Bodies everywhere.”

The Telegraph is quoting the Nice prosecutors office, which said that there are 60 dead, as are many other outlets. The UK Express is reporting the same. Also

French officials have confirmed that they are investigasting a terrorist attack and there are unconfirmed reports that there are gunmen on the loose in the city. French TV channel iTele tonight reported that a gunman “holed up in a nice restaurant downtown” had been “neutralized” by police.

and

Police have identified the driver, who was killed during the incident, and it is believed to have been a man who was known to security services. Separate reports emerged tonight that police fear four different trucks are involved, raising fears of a massive organised terror attack.

The police supposedly shot at the truck.

“The truck that drove into the crowd.”

There’s plenty of video, especially at the Express link, which is pretty horrific. Soldiers are also deployed all over the area.

What’s the over/under on the person or persons involved being someone who would yell Allahu Akbar?

We Have Our First Pokemon GO Related Auto Accident

One has to wonder, how many Pokemon GO players will be Darwin Awards nominees by years end?

(Fox News) The incredibly popular Pokemon Go smartphone game nearly claimed its first life Tuesday night after a driver in upstate New York swerved off the road and hit a tree while trying to catch Pokemon, police said.

According to Syracuse.com, an unidentified 28-year-old man was trying to catch Pokemon on his phone at about 10:45 p.m. when he got distracted and veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Auburn police said the man wasn’t seriously injured, despite the front of his car being crumpled. The man admitted to police that he was playing Pokemon Go.

This prompted Auburn police to release a list of don’ts. No need to cite them. Most people will understand them without being told.

Warmists Suddenly Very Upset When They’re Hit With Subpoenas

Members of the Cult of Climastrology were enthusiastic over the government sponsored witch hunts aimed by elected Democratic officials at Skeptic groups and individuals, and have long promoted the removal of 1st Amendment rights from those involved in WrongThink. However, when the table is turned, they aren’t particularly happy

(Daily Caller) Two environmental groups backing investigations into ExxonMobil and conservative think tanks by some states attorneys general are furious they’ve been threatened with a subpoena by federal lawmakers.

Greenpeace and 350.org activists were so mad with House Republicans they sent a letter back demanding lawmakers disclose their ties to Exxon, other oil companies and conservtive think tanks. Activists also argued, rather ironically, such requests violate their First Amendment rights.

“As we have explained in detail in our prior letters to the Committee, the Committee’s requests violate basic First Amendment protections, fall outside the proper jurisdiction of the Committee, and are impermissibly vague, overbroad, and burdensome,” Greenpeace and 350.org wrote to Texas Republican Rep. Lamar Smith, the chairman of the House science committee.

Interesting. These same groups were big cheerleaders when the subpoenas were flying the other way. Free speech for me but not thee seems to be their ideal. This leads to

(Daily Caller) A top House Republican issued subpoenas Wednesday to the attorneys general and environmental groups conservatives argue are depriving companies and other organization of free speech rights.

Texas Rep. Lamar Smith issued subpoenas to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, and eight environmental groups focusing on nonprofit groups for supposedly hiding information related to global warming.

“The attorneys general have appointed themselves to decide what is valid and what is invalid regarding climate change. The attorneys general are pursuing a political agenda at the expense of scientists’ right to free speech,” Smith, who chairs the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, said in a press statement Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, the attorneys general have refused to give the committee the information to which it is entitled. What are they hiding? And why?”

From the press release

Energy Subcommittee Chairman Randy Weber (R-Texas): “Since when did it become a crime to express or hold an opinion? The difference of opinions is what makes our country so strong and unique. It’s this freedom without censorship or restraint that helped build our country. However, this posse of attorneys general believe that those whose opinion, or scientific research, conflicts with the alleged consensus view on climate change should be the subject of investigation and prosecution by government officials – talk about a chilling effect on free speech.”

From Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Ill.)

“If the debate on climate change is settled, the environmental activists and state attorneys general should have no problem convincing the American public with their own evidence and arguments. Why go to such great lengths to squash differing opinions and anyone who questions their conclusions? These individuals, scientists, and organizations have the right to conduct research, form their own opinions, and voice those opinions.”

and

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio): “Instead of upholding the constitution, protecting citizens, and putting real criminal behind bars, these attorneys general are using taxpayer dollars to manufacture charges to send a political message. This demonstrates a clear deviation from the legal duties of an attorney general and the possible abuse of discretionary judgement. It is not the job of the attorneys general to decide what science should be conducted, and their actions indicate their intent is to silence certain voices.”

It’s a fight started by those who wish to use the Government to shut down 1st Amendment Rights, something which is specifically forbidden in the Constitution (remember, the original Bill of Rights was more about telling the Government what it cannot do), and now must be joined by those who wish to protect those 1st Amendment protections. And the first group is not real happy when their own tactics are turned back on them.
