We Have Our First Pokemon GO Related Auto Accident

One has to wonder, how many Pokemon GO players will be Darwin Awards nominees by years end?

(Fox News) The incredibly popular Pokemon Go smartphone game nearly claimed its first life Tuesday night after a driver in upstate New York swerved off the road and hit a tree while trying to catch Pokemon, police said.

According to Syracuse.com, an unidentified 28-year-old man was trying to catch Pokemon on his phone at about 10:45 p.m. when he got distracted and veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Auburn police said the man wasn’t seriously injured, despite the front of his car being crumpled. The man admitted to police that he was playing Pokemon Go.

This prompted Auburn police to release a list of don’ts. No need to cite them. Most people will understand them without being told.

  1. That happened not far from where I live. It’s been all over the local news. There is a “stop” at the end of my little dead end street and all of these weirdos keep walking past my house. Some guy almost walked in front of my car yesterday. Is there a face palm emoji?

Wow! Look at that car! The guy really crushed it. He’s lucky he wasn’t killed.

    Dude was 28 years old

Steven Cary spent time Tuesday night playing the game by Owasco Lake. The silhouette of Lapras — a Pokemon he had long coveted — popped up on his map, and he said he wanted to catch the character.

After a walk near the lake proved fruitless, he got back into the car and headed away from the lake. As he was driving near 144 Owasco St., he said he looked down at his phone to see if the Lapras had appeared.

That’s when the car collided with a tree.

“I remember suddenly there were some airbags in my lap,” he said.

The engine of his younger brother’s car was in the front passenger’s seat. The front end of the car crumpled around the tree, and the windshield was covered in web-like cracks.

With his glasses gone, Cary said he couldn’t see much of the person who called for help. He said he was trying to pull himself out of the car when he realized his right leg was stuck.

There was at least one or two guys who literally went off a cliff playing this game. Climbed over a fence that said something to the effect of “Don’t climb over the fence, moron, because of the cliff”, and fell when the edge of the cliff crumbled under them. Gotta catch ’em all!
