Doom Today: Your Favorite Ice Cream Flavors Might Go Extinct From Carbon Pollution

Another day, another unhinged prognostication of something that is maybe, possibly, we’re-not-entirely-sure that it will happen but, hey, this ain’t science, so we can say whatever we want to attempt to scare you into compliance and give up your freedom and money

Your favorite ice cream flavors could go extinct in your lifetime

There are many downsides associated with climate change, but for some, the death of some of the most delicious Ben & Jerry’s flavors may feel closest to home.

Yes, in a few decades, according to the popular (and often political) ice cream company’s blog, climate change may lead to the demise of Half Baked, Chubby Hubby, Phish Food and many more.

While some still deny that climate change is an issue, most people realize it’s more serious than ever. The rise in temperatures are predicted to lead to a number of crop shortages, many of which are critical for many Ben & Jerry’s flavors, the company noted.

“We rely on farmers all over the world for our ingredients,” the company wrote, “and when they don’t have the predictable weather patterns needed for farming, that can mean no cocoa, no peanuts, and no Peanut Butter Cup ice cream.”

One has to wonder, how much in the way of energy and fossil fuels is used to produce this ice cream? And what of all the milk from methane polluting cows? Furthermore, when have weather patterns been utterly predictable? Oh, right, we aren’t supposed to ask inconvenient questions as to motivations, actions, and Science.

Anyway, they predict this doom. Heck, nut trees could go extinct from a tiny increase in global temperatures! And cocoa! And vanilla beans! All these plants and trees that have survived multiple warm and cool periods suddenly cannot take it. Or so say people who vastly resemble a cult.

Nearly 71% Of Doctors Polled Find Hillary’s Health Concerning

This comes to us via Zero Hedge, who notes all the media hand-wringing and “just move alongs”

Hillary’s Health Concerns Serious, Say Most Doctors Polled by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS)

Concerns about Hillary Clinton’s health are “serious—could be disqualifying for the position of President of the U.S.,” say nearly 71% of 250 physicians responding to an informal internet survey by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS). About 20% said concerns were “likely overblown, but should be addressed as by full release of medical records.” Only 2.7% responded that they were “just a political attack; I have confidence in the letter from her physician and see no cause for concern.”

While more than 81% were aware of her history of a concussion, only 59% were aware of the cerebral sinus thrombosis, and 52% of the history of deep venous thrombosis.

More than 78% said the health concerns had received “not enough emphasis” in the media, and only 2.7% that there had been “too much emphasis.”

Nearly two-thirds said that a physician who had a concern about a candidate’s fitness to serve for health reasons should “make the concerns known to the public.” Only 11% said a physician should “keep silent unless he had personally examined the patient,” and 10% that the candidate’s health was “off limits for public discussion.”

They are certainly all right wing sexists and conspiracy theory lovers, you know!

Eighty-eight respondents submitted comments. One said that “the public interest will ALWAYS override either privacy rights or rights of self-determination in the case of a presidential candidate.” Another mentioned Clinton’s “so called loss of memory claimed during her FBI questioning about her email server.” Beyond the specific questions, one remarked that “I think that the candidate should be honest with the public about his/her health!” The history of the concussion was concerning: “The public must watch the movie Concussion to realize that such an injury does affect thought process.”

Many of the comments show that many of the doctors are against Hillary, regardless. Some make great points, others are partisan. Some say Trump should release his records, and that both should be examined by renowned physicians with the results made public.

But, hey, we’re told that The attacks on Hillary Clinton’s health are nasty. They’re also failing. and Can we just stop talking about Hillary Clinton’s health now? Oh, and Sarah Silverman: People Who Question Hillary Clinton’s Health Are ‘A**holes’. Then Dem Senator: It’s ‘Sexist’ to Question Hillary’s Health.

It will be interesting to see if Rasmussen, Gallup, or some other big polling source will conduct a poll to see if this is important to the American people. Because health matters. Both candidates should release all their records. If Trump was having the coughing fits and problems Hillary seems to be going through and has gone through, you can bet liberals and the media would be questioning.

Washington Post: Suddenly, Dissent Is Patriotic Again!

I’ve mostly stayed out of the Colin Kaepernick issue, only discussing it briefly on Twitter and in some comments. He’s another pampered athlete, who, in my opinion, was really just having a hissy fit over his low standing as a QB for the 49ers, knowing he was going to be the 2nd or 3rd stringer, and the 49ers had been unable to trade him, so he was going to be a bench warmer this season. So he sulkily sat during the National Anthem, go caught, and made up this story, which, if you’re not familiar, the article/opinion piece goes into it. But, there’s something more relevant going on

Colin Kaepernick reminds us that dissent is a form of patriotism too

When Colin Kaepernick kneels, you know where everybody else stands. Kaepernick’s refusal to brace at attention for the national anthem has provoked a variety of sharply defined responses, from Megan Rapinoe’s sympathetic bended knee to Bill Lynch’s accusations of hijacking. But curiously, Kaepernick himself remains vague. In fact, when you think about it, those who have replied to Kaepernick have said more interesting things than the man himself.

With the NFL opening its season this week, Kaepernick again will kneel, and no doubt others will, too.

Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos knelt last night. Another pampered, highly paid black athlete making a “statement.” Megan Rapinoe, who very white, had a hissy fit when she was thwarted from kneeling again, showing this was more about her own optics.

Anyhow, the WP’s Sally Jenkins is not too impressed with Kaepernick’s protest, as it is rather vague and stuff. You’re welcome to read that all, let’s jump to

The main thing Kaepernick has accomplished is to inflame an engrossing debate and serve as a reminder that dissent is a form of patriotism, too. If that was his goal, then he’s succeeded wonderfully. You may have learned more in the past week about Francis Scott Key’s slaveholding and the battle at Fort McHenry than you would have otherwise. And you may have started thinking harder about the meaning and use of anthems. Anthems are supposed to express something of our national character and values, but they also sound uncomfortably percussive and aggressive in the hands of mobs and dictators. Isn’t coerced loyalty a contradiction in terms?

Huh. How about that? Dissent is patriotic. Which is interesting, because we’ve been told time and again that dissent against Obama and his agenda is unpatriotic, and even racist. This started all the way back in 2009. And there are plenty more examples.

And you can bet that, as Obama’s time runs out, that any protests against Hillary, if she wins, will be considered unpatriotic and sexist, and the media will conveniently forget her screeching speech on patriotism and dissent.

Anyway, it is interesting that Kaepernick is essentially protesting racism during the era of Obama, when blacks have a high unemployment rate, their earnings are less per capita than other races, when they are killing each other off in Democratic cities willy nilly, and race relations are the worst they’ve been in over 50 years.  He’s essentially all over the map with his protests, even going after Hillary. Regardless, he has a right to protest. And people have a right to call him out on it. That said, people just want to watch football. They want a bit of an escape, not a social justice warrior bit of fluff. He isn’t Jackie Robinson, who went out on the field and just played.

24 Hours With The Asus Zenwatch 2

While I’m definitely a tech geek, I tend to be more interested in useful and worthwhile. But, I’ll go with cool and this could be fun now and then. I’ve had some extra birthday money sitting around, and there’s just about nothing else I’m interested in or need. At least that’s fun. I could get a new Kindle, but, I don’t really need. New tablet? Nah. Mine’s not particularly fast, but, I do not use it that much. I have plenty of bluetooths. So, I figured maybe I would give a smartwatch a chance. I’ve been using a Fitbit Charge since around Christmas, and I love it. Lightweight, keeps track of steps, and alerts me to calls. It can be hard to feel the vibration from the phone through a case on my belt, and often too loud to hear the ring tone.

Most smartwatches are too big and/or way more than I wanted to spend. $200 is my limit for what is essentially a fun toy. The Samsung Gear S2 is a nice size, but, too expensive and not Android Wear, which is also a requirement. The Motorola 360’s are nice, and the Sport has a nice price range at $199, but, it is too big. I have thick wrists but not really wide wrists, so, a 42mm round is about my limit. Most are bigger.

I really liked the price range of the ASUS Zenwatch 2’s, which come in two sizes: 1.63 and 1.45. They are slightly rectangular watches. I tried the 1.63 a few weeks ago, but, it was way too big. The nice thing was that it is one of only two Android Wear watches with a speaker, so you can have a speaker phone conversation. Alas, I returned it.

Since, I’ve been waiting for Best Buy to have the 1.45 size one in stock. I picked one up Wednesday morning. Sadly, no speaker, but, then, I do not like speaking on speaker phone in the first place. So, no biggy, considering the price of $149 (plus an extended warranty). I’ve been playing with it since. It is a very nice looking watch, and the design is pleasing. I have a lot of watches, and some of my favorites are square.

Here’s the problem: it is not all that comfortable. The watch band attachment points, like so many smartwatches, are in the middle of the watch rather than at the bottom, so, it kinda sits up. It’s not really that thick. I have other watches as thick. But, it feels weird. Width across my wrist is good, though.

Trying to look at it and use it is problematic. When you turn your watch to look at it, how much do you turn your wrist? So that you are looking dead on at it? Or mostly at an angle? Correct, at an angle. So, with an AMOLED screen, it can be difficult to see and tap (this kinda applies to all smartwatches with this type of screen).

And it is very difficult to see in the sun, which I am in a lot. I tried using it to keep score while walking 9, and it was tough. How easy is it to see your phone in the sun? Boom.

It lost connection 3 times today, which seemed to happen when I received a call while testing that. Most likely it was interference with the Fitbit. So, I disable the Fitbit, and the phone rang twice before the Zenwtach 2 started ringing. Rather defeats the purpose of using it to make sure I am getting notifications.

It was unable to use the phone to pinpoint my location in the GPS app (which is the Google one). However, it was cool that I could do an “OK Google” and tell it to navigate to Sheetz, the phone would set it up, and I could see it on the watch, which would vibrate as a turn was coming up. There are lots of cool things like that you can do.

It was also unable to properly connect with the MyRadar app (if you like awesome radar, get this on phone) most times.

Customization is rather cool, though. I put an app on it to see all my texts. I had one which allowed me to see what was on the camera, so, I could put it over my shoulder or under something and see what was going on. No, not pervy. I had to reset the garbage disposal with a hex wrench, and used the camera to see the spot to put it in (stop. Not pervy). I could see things like Google’s Keep, which I use a lot. I had a calendar. Helpful things. And some great clock faces. One was using a weather program with a NY Giants logo.

If you don’t mind wearing a smartwatch loose so you can rotate it, it might work for you. Of course, if you are getting a little older and have trouble focusing in (I wear contacts for distance, and have zero problem with close up with them out and not wearing glasses, but, with them in? Yikes), things are small and difficult, especially at an angle.

I might look at the Fitbit Blaze with its updates for notification (what I need is text and calls) or the Fitbit Charge 2 when it is released.

Another option is a Pebble. Since they use a paperwhite type screen, much like Kindles, you can see them in the sun.

I don’t want to totally trash Android Wear and other smartwatches. They just aren’t for me at this time.

Do you use one? What’s your opinion?

Bored Grandma Links Counter-Terrorism With Gun Control

Alternate headline: lady surrounded by people carrying guns, many of which are utterly restricted for private ownership, wants to control your guns after helping ISIS come into being

(Breitbart) During MSNBC’s September 7 Commander-in-Chief Forum, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton suggested more gun control is part of the fight against terror attacks in the United States.

She did this after forum host Matt Lauer brought up “terror attacks on our soil.” (snip)

Clinton then said that “here, at home, for goodness sakes, we have to finally pass a law prohibiting people on the terrorist watch list from being able to guy a gun in the United States of America.” This is a reference to the “no fly, no buy” law that Democrats have been pushing since the December 2 San Bernardino terror attack, although neither of the San Bernardino attackers were on any kind of list.

Most on that list are already prohibited from purchasing a firearm, because they aren’t an American citizen. As for citizens, Ted Kennedy was continuously stopped. There are children and nuns on it. And it is damned hard to get off it. We’ve been through this time and again. Republicans offered legislation that would keep due process for citizens, something that even the LA Times noted was missing from all the Democrat talking points. Dems did not want the GOP bills, because citizens would retain Rights.

Clinton added that the last thing we need to do is “[go] after American Muslims” in our fight against terrorism.

But, she has no problem demonizing American citizens who own guns. And who are not likely to engage in terrorism. Let’s also note that you cannot fight what you cannot name.

BTW, a veteran confronted Hillary over he email scandal, and destroyed her.

Man With Massive Carbon Footprint Finds ‘Climate Change’ Utterly “Terrifying”

The same guy who calls ISIS the JV team, who isn’t worried about Islamic terrorists entering the US, who has no problem with black on black on black crime is uber-concerned with a tiny global increase in temperature (warning: autoplay video with annoying Obama)

(NY Times) Seventy-four years ago, a naval battle off this remote spit of land in the middle of the Pacific Ocean changed the course of World War II. Last week, President Obama flew took a long fossil fueled flight here to swim with Hawaiian monk seals and draw attention to a quieter war — one he has waged against rising seas, freakish storms, deadly droughts and other symptoms of a planet choking on its own fumes.

Bombs may not be falling. The sound of gunfire does not concentrate the mind. What Mr. Obama has seen instead are the charts and graphs of a warming planet. “And they’re terrifying,” he said in a recent interview in Honolulu.

Yet he still uses vast amounts of fossil fuels and energy while eating foods from far away. Go figure.

“What makes climate change difficult is that it is not an instantaneous catastrophic event,” he said. “It’s a slow-moving issue that, on a day-to-day basis, people don’t experience and don’t see.”

So, if people aren’t experiencing it and don’t see it, they couldn’t care less about it, especially when so few Warmists practice what they preach.

Climate change, Mr. Obama often says, is the greatest long-term threat facing the world, as well as a danger already manifesting itself as droughts, storms, heat waves and flooding. More than health care, more than righting a sinking economic ship, more than the historic first of an African-American president, he believes that his efforts to slow the warming of the planet will be the most consequential legacy of his presidency.

For his part, Mr. Obama said he planned to stay active in fighting climate change in his post-presidential life.

Will this be like how OJ searched for Nicole’s killer on every golf course he could find?

Everybody Panic: ‘Climate Change’ To Decimate Coffee Production By 2050

The Cult of Climastrology has long attempted to use coffee production as a way to scare people about the utter doom from anthropogenic climate change. Like most things AGW, it comes in cycles, and they’ve been make a push on coffee doom over the past few weeks, culminating in this, coming from a site called Science World Report

Climate Change Will Reduce The Coffee Production in 2050, Research says

There are a lot of serious reasons why climate change has to stop. For one, in 2050 we will be experiencing 50 percent less of coffee production if this phenomenon keeps on pursuing. It would be a drastic news for almost everybody, coffee lovers, coffee farmers, coffee shop owners and so much more. Big time coffee shop owners have already raised their concern on this matter.

The impact of climate change has already gone globally intense. The results that hit the coffee industry have already raised several concerns and threat. Meanwhile, the coffee production in Tanzania has already dropped by 137kg per hectare.

Alarming decrease in coffee production does not stop at Tanzania alone. Central America has already lost $500 million and laid off 350,000 people in 2012-2013. At least 85% of the crop in Guatemala were also gravely affected and have died. In Nicaragua, researchers calculated that they can also lose the majority of its coffee growing area, according to The Guardian.com. All these have happened due to the widely devastion brought about by global warming.

This should make everyone run out and destroy their fossil fueled vehicles, start taking 2 minute showers, use one sheet of TP, buy expensive solar panels….oh, wait. Quite a bit of that loss comes due to mismanagement of the soil coffee grows in, while using pesticides that also cause problems. Coffee Rust, also known as Royo, has been decimating coffee crops in Central America, and, yes, warmer global temperatures have allowed it to go further up mountains. Just like it surely did in previous warm periods. There’s no scientific proof that it is anthropogenic.

You see many of the same issues in Tanzania and other African areas that depend on coffee crops (which are usually too expensive for the workers to actually buy themselves, so they drink tea). There are also problems with population growth. Oh, and cooler than normal temperatures.

According to Think Progress.com, Fair-trade Australia and New Zealand conducted a research, a report titled “A brewing Storm.” The findings stated that unusual high-altitude rains and severe heat cost the outbreak of pests and disease into coffee farms. Climate Institute’s chief executive officer, John Connor, said: “We’re also seeing extra diseases increasing and being able to go up into those areas.”

If you’re using Think Progress as a source to support your cultish allegation, well, you’re utterly partisan. And, once again, there’s no scientific proof that climatic changes are mostly/solely caused by mankind.

If it was so bad, one would think those who believe in man-caused climate change would adapt their own lives to match their beliefs, right?

Team Hillary Puts Media On Notice To Not Question Her Health

She’s working the refs, and, since most of them are in the bag for her, it’ll probably work, especially since the majority are already defending Coughing Hillary against any charges or “just wonderings” regarding her health

(The Hill) Hillary Clinton’s campaign is working the refs hard when it comes to reports about her health.

While Clinton responded to a fit of coughing this week with humor, saying she was “allergic” to GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, her aides and surrogates played the role of bad cop.

Campaign spokesman Nick Merrill took to task an NBC reporter who wrote about the coughing spell, posting on Twitter that the writer should “get a life.”

But, she keeps having these coughing fits. They aren’t unusual. They aren’t short.

The pushback signaled that Clinton’s campaign intends to sharply counterattack news organizations that take questions about her health seriously.

“They’re trying to work the refs a little bit as they try to push back on the mainstream media’s willingness to pick up on some of this stuff that’s usually left to the fringes,” Clinton surrogate Jim Manley explained.

So, instead of showing documents that she is healthy, and there is a good reason for the constant coughing which would send most of us running to the doctor, they’re going to attack and, most likely, attempt to destroy any who bring it up. She told the FBI 39 times that she couldn’t recall because of her concussion. She has a lot of falls. These aren’t conspiracy theories. They’re facts.

Do they show a picture of a woman in good health? One thing you can bet on, Americans love a good conspiracy, and they will be asking “if Team Hillary is pushing back hard on the allegations while refusing to debunk them with her health records, might there be something there?”

Allies, however, maintain that voters aren’t worried about the stories questioning her health.

“I think the media deserves to be beat up on this because I think it’s ridiculous. I really doubt that any American really cares about this,” said Democratic strategist Brad Bannon.

“This is as trivial as you can get. The media deserves pushback for giving so much coverage to this thing,” he added.

Au contraire. Citizens very much care about this. More read news about celebrity doings than politics, and they certainly care if a candidate is portraying poor health symptoms. Americans spend a lot of time on trivial things. Trivial things that seem important to them. Perhaps they aren’t much concern to the political elites, but citizens care. They care when their favorite celebrity is exhibiting signs of physical or mental illness, even when it’s just part of their favorite TV show. And the more Team Hillary attempts to obfuscate and Blamestorm, the more the media attempts to provide shelter, the more they will focus on this issue and wonder “what’s she hiding?” That’s the nature of humanity.

The health of a candidate is important, is it not? And it is certainly legitimate to ask questions when she hasn’t released her medical records. Trump, again, should do the same. We’re electing someone to the most power position in the world, and we should know that she’s up for the job, which ages a person tremendously, and requires enormous physical and mental stamina.

Finally, let’s consider that some media will take this as a challenge to their livelihood, and say “to hell with my Clinton supporting colleagues, I’ll get the information.”
