Duplicitous NY Times Suddenly Enthused By States Rights On Illegal Aliens

The Editorial Board of the NY Times really, really likes the notion of States and cities leading the resistance to something that hasn’t even happened in attempting to protect people who are….unlawfully present in the United States, people who decrease wages, take jobs from Americans, gum up the works at hospitals and cause emergency rooms to close, choke up the criminal justice system and prisons, commit identity fraud, kill and rape citizens, and so much more

California Looks To Lead The Trump Resistance

Nobody knows yet what Donald Trump is going to do to immigration enforcement. Only a month has passed since the election, and the president-elect is no different from the candidate: erratic, self-contradictory, hazy on principles and policies.

But states and cities that value immigrants, including the undocumented, do not have the luxury of waiting and hoping for the best. They are girding for a confrontation, building defenses to protect families and workers from the next administration.

That’s a nice bit of mental jujitsu, equating legal immigrants with illegals, proposing that Trump will go after the legals, which he has never discussed. Here’s where it gets cute, because they probably read their own previous work

Nothing in the [bills protecting illegals offered in California] would obstruct the federal government. This is not a nullification of federal laws or a rebellion against the Constitution. It’s upholding the Fourth Amendment, preventing unreasonable search and seizure, so mothers and fathers can go to work and children go to school without fear of losing one another. It’s upholding the First Amendment, so day laborers can solicit work on a sidewalk. It’s allowing the local police to keep the trust and cooperation of crime victims and witnesses, who will not fear every encounter as a prelude to deportation. (snip)

But the opposite is true: By drawing a bright line between federal immigration enforcement and local policing, the California Values Act would promote smarter, more effective law enforcement. Local officers would continue to keep the peace, and in the face of criminal threats — as validated by a warrant from a judge — would cooperate with federal agents. But if the Trump administration begins roundups of those who pose no danger, of minor offenders and noncriminals, staking out schools, churches, businesses and homes — they will not do its job for it.

The Constitution Trumps Arizona

The Obama administration has not always been completely clear about its immigration agenda, but it was forthright Tuesday when it challenged the pernicious Arizona law that allows the police to question the immigration status of people they detain for local violations. Only the federal government can set or enforce immigration policy, the government said in its lawsuit against the state, and “Arizona has crossed this constitutional line.”

There is nothing terribly complicated about this principle, which is based on several aspects of the Constitution, acts of Congress, and Supreme Court decisions over the years. A patchwork of state and local immigration policies would cause havoc.

Well, the NYTEB seemed pretty clear in their notion about immigration policy, did it not? But, now that the law might actually be enforced by the Trump administration, the same NYTEB is enthused by this State’s Rights thing. They’ve done a bit of parsing in order to find a way for states and cities to blow off federal law, citing the 4th, forgetting that the law allows people to be arrested for being an illegal alien, and the 1st applies if the person is lawfully present in the U.S. or a citizen.

There’s always an excuse of duplicitous actions and thought in Liberal World.

U Of Maryland Promises To Protect Illegals, Special Snowflakes Meltdown

This is possible one of the silliest Snowflake meltdown. Seriously, they’re getting what they want, and they’re still Outraged

(Daily Caller)  University of Maryland (UM) students were distressed and demanded an apology after the school’s president stood up for illegal immigrants, and used the Spanish language to do it.

The incident occurred Tuesday night, when UM president Wallace Loh delivered his annual state of the campus address. During his speech, Loh took a moment to defend illegal immigrants who attended the school, and used both English and Spanish to do it.

Several Snowflakes took exception to Loh actually speaking in Spanish, because, in the words of one who will be getting lots of rejection emails from employers, “does not represent the entire immigrant community here.” Another was upset because this implied a “Latinix” background. I guess there are a bunch of non-Latino illegal aliens at UM who need to be deported.

On the bright side, Loh refused to apologize, since Spanish is his first language. The article at The Diamondback paints Loh as a progressive Social Justice Warrior himself, but, even that is not enough for these Special Snowflakes, who are trying to out-Snowflake each other. And tell Human Resources to immediately trash their resumes. The Internet is forever.

The Classic Canadian Winter Is Totally ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

It used to be that all that cold and snow was just a part of the natural order, but, Warmists have decided that it is now caused by greenhouse gases which “trap” heat

The weather outside is frightful thanks to climate change and the polar vortex

With cold, blustering snowstorms battering the West Coast and thePrairies, you might be tempted to say “What global warming?”

But climate change may, in fact, be to blame for this oh-so-Canadian winter.

“Doesn’t global warming mean that we’re going to get warmer, shorter winters? Well, in some areas, yes, but it actually could mean we could see colder episodes,” Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips told CBC News.

It’s all part of a bigger puzzle that has to do with melting Arctic ice, extreme ocean temperatures, a travelling polar vortex and a weird, roller-coaster-shaped jet stream.

Washington Post Wants Congress To Protect “Dreamers” From Trump

This would be a case of “fake news”, per the media’s definition, which involves scaremongering and hysteria

It’s up to Congress to protect ‘dreamers’ from deportation

WHEN THE Obama administration established a program in 2014 for “dreamers” — young undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children by their parents — the deal was simple: They would register with the Department of Homeland Security and submit to a background check. If their records were clean and they met certain criteria, they would receive work permits and be shielded from deportation on a two-year, renewable basis.

This was another in a long set of Obama overreaches, doing something that was legally dubious, if not utterly against the Constitution. Expect that if Trump tries something in the same vein, the Washington Post Editorial Board will have a snit fit.

Since then, some 750,000 people have registered for the program, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and most are studying or working in this country, leading peaceable and productive lives. Yet along with feeling relief and gratitude for having been offered a reprieve, and a way out of the shadows, many feel nervous — and for good reason. Will President-elect Donald Trump, who has threatened to deport all illegal immigrants, use information they willingly gave the federal government, including addresses, to track them down and deport them?

Trump hasn’t threatened to do this specifically, hence, fake news (yes, yes, it’s on the opinion pages, but, really, there’s not a lot of daylight between the news and opinion nowadays.)

That, says Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), would be “the worst outcome.” He’s right. What possible advantage would be gained by targeting and tracking down this group of immigrants, who grew up in the United States, attended American high schools, live thoroughly American lives and in many cases have no memory of any other country?

Here’s the problem: so many of these same “Dreamers” have been demanding, Demanding!!!! that the United States give them money, schooling, free college, healthcare, and be made citizens. Not asking. Demanding. Yet, many of them are out there flying the flags of their country, particularly Mexico, and slamming the US. We don’t owe them a thing. Nothing. Zip. One would think they would be humble and conciliatory and use the word “please”.

Immigration hard-liners will regard Mr. Graham’s bill as amnesty; it is nothing of the sort. He is proposing neither citizenship nor indefinite legal status for dreamers; rather, he would simply allow them to continue leading the lives they have made for themselves in this country, to which they were brought through no fault of their own.

And, along with that, what we’ve gotten and will get are two things. First, the parents who brought them will of course have to stay, because we can’t separate the kids from the parents, even though it is acknowledged within DACA that the parents are at fault. And, of course, all the relatives have to come, too.

Second, this further incents people to come to the U.S. illegally and demand they be given amnesty (it is amnesty). Unless the bill cracks down heavily on those who would come illegally now, we’ll continue to have this problem. And, based on past performance, the bill won’t.

Mr. Trump has promised to repeal Mr. Obama’s executive actions on immigration, including the one from which dreamers have benefited. He is empowered to do so. Similarly, Congress is entitled to pass legislation that would lift the threat of deportation from a cohort of young, promising and energetic immgirants who will be a benefit to this country and its economic prospects for decades to come.

Cool. The economic prospects of taking jobs from actual American citizens. Let’s face it, if Congress does pass something legalizing DACA, the next step for liberals like the WPEB is to make sure that these people can vote. Because they’ll vote Democrat. And that’s the ultimate endpoint.

Surprise: Two Teens Charged With Setting Gatlinburg Wildfire

There’s a reason for the “surprise” in the headline. We’ll get to that in a moment in this discussion where 14 people died, 175 were injured, and thousands of homes and businesses were destroyed

(CNN) Two juveniles face charges of aggravated arson in connection with a deadly Tennessee wildfire that began in late November and spread to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, according to Mark Gwyn, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Additional charges are being considered, 4th District Attorney General James Dunn said, including the possibility of seeking a transfer to adult criminal court.

He said the youths were from Tennessee, but not from Sevier County, where the fires started. Neither their ages nor genders were released.

The fire itself is reportedly 82% contained (NY Mag claims 64%), and over 17,000 acres have been burned. So, why the “surprise”? Remember this post from November 30th

Trump Picks Scott Pruitt For EPA Head

This has made Warmists very, very upset

(NY Times) President-elect Donald J. Trump has selected Scott Pruitt, the Oklahoma attorney general and a close ally of the fossil fuel industry, to run the Environmental Protection Agency, a transition official said, signaling Mr. Trump’s determination to dismantle President Obama’s efforts to counter climate change.

I love the fossil fuels part, as if the NY Times doesn’t use vast amounts to gather the news.

Mr. Pruitt, a Republican, has been a key architect of the legal battle against Mr. Obama’s climate change policies, actions that fit with the president-elect’s comments during the campaign. Mr. Trump has criticized the established science of human-caused global warming as a hoax, vowed to “cancel” the Paris accord committing nearly every nation to taking action to fight climate change, and attacked Mr. Obama’s signature global warming policy, the Clean Power Plan, as a “war on coal.”

Mr. Pruitt, 48, who has emerged as a hero to conservative activists, is also one of a number of Republican attorneys general who have formed an alliance with some of the nation’s top energy producers to push back against the Obama regulatory agenda, a 2014 investigation by The New York Times revealed.

As Oklahoma’s top law enforcement official, Mr. Pruitt has fought environmental regulations — particularly the climate change rules. Although Mr. Obama’s rules were not completed until 2015, Mr. Pruitt was one of a handful of attorneys general, along with Greg Abbott of Texas, who began planning as early as 2014 for a coordinated legal effort to fight them. That resulted in a 28-state lawsuit against the administration’s rules. A decision on the case is pending in a federal court, but it is widely expected to advance to the Supreme Court.

Sounds like Pruitt is a great pick The thing is, Pruitt hasn’t fought against environmental regulations, he has fought against ‘climate change’ regulations. The two are not the same.

This should make for some fun hearings.

Good News: There Might Possibly Maybe Could Be Only Two Years Left For The North Pole

It really is that time of year to have a month long freakout of linking ‘climate change’ to Christmas

There could be just two years left before the North Pole disappears

MY SIX-YEAR-OLD asked me about Santa the other day. Luckily, it wasn’t the moment where his innocence is shattered forever.

Instead, he was wondering how Santa was going, preparing for his annual voyage around the world, dispensing plastic junk from China to all the world’s least-needy kids. (I added the last part, but you get the drift).

I painted the picture that my parents had passed on to me. I explained to him how the night is slowly descending across the North Pole at the moment, and by the time Santa sets off on his sleigh across the ice on Christmas Eve, it will be shrouded in continuous darkness, lit only by his Christmas candles, and one shiny red nose.

So far so good

My son is very interested in fashion, and so we talked at length about Santa’s warm red jacket. The sad thing that I didn’t have the heart to tell my son is that, at the moment, Santa’s big red jacket is probably too warm for Santa himself, even at the North Pole.

Santa is a fantasy but climate change is not, and it’s started to do truly alarming things to the North Pole.

When it comes to climate, I’m a pretty lousy citizen. I do all the things you’re not supposed to do. I use a clothes dryer, I eat red meat, I even stopped offsetting my energy bills when I got my new mortgage.

So then go away.

This is why I’m seriously considering taking the kids out of school next July, and taking them up to the North Pole to see the ice. It’s probably the last chance to see it. Fantasies of the North Pole are such a vivid part of my own childhood. When was a kid, I always assumed I’d go there one day. Now I know my children will not.

If I do take my kids to see the North Pole and they live long lives, they’ll end be some of the last people on earth to be able to attest that there was indeed, ice at the top of our planet.

How Trump Turned Christmas Films into Horror Films

My family was never into Christmas. We were just too African to really feel it. Christmas is a feeling. The gifts, the trees, the little lights, the stockings, the carols were all a big bother without this feeling. For my family, Christmas was a time to go to a loud bar, drink heavily, wake up late the next morning with a hangover, and have a big brunch with the hair of the dog. When I relocated to the United States, married, and had kids, my African Christmas came to an end. I was now an American with an American family and American relatives who, like all Americans, were super into the day that celebrated the birth of a man who claimed to be the son of the man who created the whole universe.

You can feel the derision for our way of celebrating Christmas, can you not, and for America? Typical Democrat. And typical that the writer, Charles Mudede, decides to slam small town America

My kids particularly love a house in Kelso that’s across the street from a gas station. A sheriff lives there, and his entire garden is covered with shimmering lights and ornaments. There is a glowing Santa by the home’s front door, a glowing overgrown elf near the side of the garage, a glowing snowman by a pine tree, and the star of Bethlehem on top of that tree.

Sounds nice, this little town well to the north of Portland, where Mr. Mudede lives. Of course not!

Kelso is in Cowlitz County, and like all of the other rural and small-town counties in Washington State, it voted for Donald Trump by a considerable margin (17.1 percent). But when someone made a cardboard sign that directly quoted Trump’s line “Grab them by the pussy,” Kelso made its police department take it down. The sign, made by a local resident and intended to “start a conversation,” was deemed offensive by a number of upstanding Kelso citizens—it was posted less than 500 feet away from a school (think of the children) and violated the city code of disorderly conduct by encouraging sexual assault. And yet these people voted for Trump. What’s wrong with Kelso? Was the town under some evil spell? How could all these fine Americans, so passionate about the birth of Jesus Christ, overcome their repulsion for Trump’s very own words and make him their leader?

How could Democrats want to make Hillary Clinton, with her graft, her lies, her violations of the law, and her defense of her husband’s sexual assault and rape of women, president?

It’s like a horror movie, the kind that takes place in a classically American small town. The people are friendly and satisfied with their quiet, normal way of life. But you can’t help feeling there is something that’s not quite right. While walking down the town’s main street one night, a person, usually a woman with frightened eyes, pulls you into an alley and warns you to get out of town before it is too late. You ask her to explain herself. But just as she is about to provide an answer, the sheriff with the Christmas lights appears out of nowhere and asks if everything is fine. The woman hurries off with her head down, and you are left looking after her and back at the sheriff with confusion, and then the strangely smiling sheriff offers to give you a ride back to your motel at the edge of town.

Mr. Mudede continues his oh-so-typical liberal derision of small town America for a bit more, before ending with

We’re now living in a world where the people of Bedford Falls have sided with nasty old Mr. Potter. Instead of banding together to bail George Bailey out of a jam with their nickels and dimes, they’ve formed a lynch mob to string him up. Donald Trump has made Christmas movies into horror movies for anyone not born into the comforting illusions of white, small-town America.

This Christmas, I’m going to revert to my African ways. I will go to a Portland bar on Christmas Eve, drink until last call, wake up late in the afternoon (spent wrapping paper of long opened presents on the floor or in the bins), eat something heavy with the hair of the dog, and, on the return trip to Seattle, not stop in Kelso or any other small town. I never want to see the horror of Christmas lights in rural America again.

And Democrats wonder why they are losing. Even those who live in small town America who might agree on policy understand that Democrats hate small town folks, that they hate those in “flyover” country, what some call “Jesusland” and “Dumbfuckistan”, and are checking out. Perhaps they didn’t vote Trump, but, they surely didn’t vote for Hillary, nor for Democrats in general.
