This is actually number two on the list of Pause Excuses, and is being widely and breathlessly published by all sorts of media outlets who use vast amounts of energy and fossil fuels themselves
New Study Offers Insights on Global Warming ‘Hiatus’
A new study provides new insights about the so-called global warming “hiatus” that occurred between 1998 and 2013.
During the said period, a temporary slowdown in the global mean surface temperature (GMST) warming was observed, and a new study suggests that the phenomenon represented a redistribution of energy within the Earth system, which includes the planet’s land, atmosphere and the ocean.
You’ll never guess why
The researchers concluded that the global ocean absorbed the extra heat from the atmosphere, causing the observed decrease in GMST – a key indicator of climate change.
So, the ocean ate their warming
The researchers hope that the new study will lay the foundation for future research in the global change field, suggesting that the climate community replaces the term “global warming hiatus” with “global surface warming slowdown” to avoid confusion.
If the data doesn’t conform to the pre-conceived notions, the data must be wrong. And this article was one of the most conservative available. Others are claiming that this means there was no actual pause, and many point out that this means that anthropogenic climate change is super real and we’re doomed.

The first thing the soon to be inaugurated President Trump should do is restrict Mr. Obama from using taxpayer funds to take fossil fueled flights, since Mr. Obama is such a big believer in anthropogenic climate change. Then, whatever house Obama settles in, should remove it from the electric grid and put solar panels on the roof and in the yard. Since Obama cares.
(NY Times) If he follows through, most of these moves will be opposed by environmental groups, by Democrats in Congress and perhaps even by some Republicans. But Mr. Trump will have several tools to begin nullifying the Obama climate agenda.
One of them is the little-known Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, a small outpost within the executive branch that has, since the Clinton administration, been the last stop for many regulations before they go into effect.
Lawyers in the office pore over thousands of pages of federal regulations daily and pride themselves on meticulously reviewing the fine print, even if that takes months or years.
Under the control of the new administration, the office could slow President Obama’s latest regulatory initiatives by repeatedly sending them back for additional work.
Well, that’s one way. Another is to make sure that the regulations from the climate weenies in government never make it there.
If Mr. Trump does decide to withdraw from the Paris agreement, he will find it difficult: The accord went into force this month. He would also encounter tremendous obstacles were he to try to dismantle the E.P.A., another campaign threat.
Warmists, like the NY Times writers, continuously say it would be hard to kill the Paris agreement. No. It is not binding, and, has no legal force since it was never ratified by the Senate, as required by the Constitution. A simple Executive Order cancelling it would suffice. Dismantling the EPA? That would be hard, but, their actions can be heavily rolled back with the proper person installed as the head of the EPA. It would be a mistake to get rid of the EPA, as they are important to environmental standards. Their overall power should be rolled back, though, so that they deal with their mandate, rather than all the mission creep. Trump could force a redirection of the mission to focus on the environment, rather than the ultra-political ‘climate change.’
“Donald Trump can’t just snap his fingers and change climate policy,†said David Goldston, director of government affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council. “We have ways to thwart him in Congress and the courts that we could employ.â€
Au contraire. Obama snapped his fingers and signed documents. Trump can do the same in cancelling those documents. What Obama’s pen giveth, Trump’s Sharpie can take away.
The article provides lots of ways Trump could dismantle Obama’s climate legacy. Worth the read. The question is “will he?” Time will tell who the real Donald Trump is.

Leftists continue their bleating post-election, because they lost. Let’s not forget that, when they all thought (heck, most of us thought) that Hillary would win, it was all about respecting the election outcome. Now? Not so much, so, we get the Washington Post printing a screed by Mehdi Hasan, an Al Jazeera “journalist,” who isn’t even an American, and may or may not be an Islamic supremacist, to tell us
The American political system is broken
Consider the following scenarios: What if Venezuela held a presidential election and President Nicolás Maduro claimed victory with fewer votes than his main rival? Or if Russian liberals won the most votes in the country’s legislative elections but failed to secure the most seats in the Duma? Or if Iranian authorities tried to prevent members of the country’s largest minority group from voting?
Can you imagine the howls of outrage from the White House press secretary? The pious calls from the State Department spokesman to respect the will of the people and protect minorities? Yet all of these undemocratic travesties occurred. Here in the United States, in front of our noses.
Perhaps Mr. Hasan should read the Constitution, and understand the way it is set up, before chiming in.
Much has been written since Election Day about the need to resist the “normalization†of racism and misogyny. Less has been said about the “normalization†of democratic dysfunction, the signs of which are all around us.
Take the popular vote. Sorry, Americans, it’s just not “normal†for the candidate who came in second to be declared the winner of the race for the second time in the space of a mere 16 years. In 2000, George W. Bush was elected the 43rd president of the United States despite winning about 540,000 fewer votes than his Democratic opponent; in 2016, Donald Trump has been elected 45th president despite trailing Hillary Clinton by 2 million votes.
It may be unusual, but, according to our Federal Republic system, it is entirely normal. But, Leftists refuse to accept that, when it comes to the ballot boxes, they are losing at all levels here in the United States. Many people might consider themselves liberals, but, they are voting against Democrats, because they see that Democrat policies do not work.
None of the other Western democracies have anything comparable to the archaic U.S. electoral college…
Because we aren’t a democracy. Apparently, British schools aren’t any better than American ones in teaching How The American Political System works. If only there was some sort of medium people could use to understand our federal election system.
This is followed by a whine on election spending, then turnout. Mr. Hasan almost seems to be writing that people should be forced to vote.
And, of course, the typical whines of “voter suppression”. Then gerrymandering, which is only bad when Republicans do it.
This isn’t a time for denial or deflection. The American political system is broken. Far from being the “world’s greatest democracy,†to quote President Obama, representative democracy in the United States seems further hollowed out with every election cycle.
Nothing is wrong with the voting. It works just fine, as set up by the Constitution. If Hasan wants to look at something that is “broken”, well, then we should repeal the 17th Amendment and return power back to the states in selecting their Senators, as it was designed. We should enact term limits on the House of Representatives, so that no one spends decades in office. And British weenies should mind their own business, particularly when they don’t understand the actual presidential election system, designed to empower the States in a Federal Republic, while also protecting the Rights of the minority.

Remember, many reasonable Warmists (yes, there are a few) have recommended, pleaded even, that the rest of the Cult of Climastrology stop with the unhinged style talk and prognostications. They are rarely listened to
Worry less: Climate change is going to destroy the world soon anyway
There are so many terrible things going on in the world that we could spend all of our time worrying about. But comedian Alice Fraser thinks we are all forgetting one important thing: there will be no problems to face if the world dies underneath us first.
Wait, I thought we weren’t supposed to listen to anyone by a Confirmed and Card Carrying Climate Scientist? No?
Hey peeps, I have a proposal. I know that structural racism or the rise of PC culture is definitely a huge problem, also the fascistic control that some people want to assert over womens’ bodies or the mass murder of millions of unborn children by selfish and slatternly millenials. All of these are things that are extremely angering and worrying or worthy of debate and regulation. Also, during several days last week, while everyone was still in full Trump-panic-and-or-celebration news-loop-mode, temperatures above the North Pole were a full 20C (36F) above the levels typical for mid-November
OH HOLY CRABSTICKS THIS IS NOT OKAY. (snip)
When the few remaining people are eating each other in desperate fury and fighting over the remaining water on little bobbles of higher ground, I’m sure we’ll figure out then whether men are actually better for leadership roles.

Oh, and hey, it’s never too early for a Christmas whine
Martin Stendel, a DMI climate researcher based in Copenhagen has said “This is by far the highest recorded” temperature in the era of satellite data, which started in 1979 and may or may not be a lie, but maybe we don’t need to buy thirty meters of tinsel and factory produced fairy lights for Christmas just in case that mild celebratory indulgence is one among BILLIONS OF SIMILAR PURCHASES WHICH ARE MAKING OUR WORLD SWEAT LIKE A SENATOR IN AN OVERHEATED CHURCH?
The article even includes a wonderful gif of Jennifer Lawrence stating we’re all going to die. Because Warmsits are reasonable. And lest you think this comes from some fringe site, Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service is a pretty big corporation, broadcasting TV, radio, and Internet.
Then there’s the UK Guardian, well known for it’s climate insanity
Arctic ice melt could trigger uncontrollable climate change at global level
Could. Sciencey! Hey, why, worry, the world is going to end soon, anyhow. I blame Warmists for refusing to give up their own use of fossil fuels and make their own lives carbon neutral.

A university enabled hissy fit
(The Hill) Hampshire College, a liberal arts school with about students 1,400 in Massachusetts, will no longer fly the U.S. flag on its campus.
“We hope this will enable us to instead focus our efforts on addressing racist, misogynistic, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and behaviors,” Hampshire’s president, Jonathan Lash, said in a statement.
A day after the presidential election, the college decided to lower the flag to half staff “as an expression of grief over the violent deaths being suffered in this country and globally,” Lash said, but that angered some students on campus and in the community.
Instead, the college will not fly any flags on campus “for the time being.”
Hampshire College is a privately funded institute of Leftist freakouts higher learning indoctrination, and can certainly chose to do this. It is vastly left wing, founded in 1970 on vastly left wing policies. It began a “reradicalization” project in 2004, becoming even more Progressive (nice fascism). In the wake of 9/11, the college voted against the War On Terrorism. This is not to say it is a bad college: the standards for learning are impeccable, by all accounts. They’re just loony lefties, as we can see by the above article.
Funny thing is, there is lots of anti-Semitism going on at Hampshire, just like on other left wing college campuses.

If the shoe was reversed, had Trump lost but received more votes, does anyone think that august organizations like the Washington Post would allow opinion pieces like this, or would they say “no, we do not need that, Clinton won”?
Why the electoral college should choose Hillary Clinton
Conventional wisdom tells us that the electoral college requires that the person who lost the popular vote this year must nonetheless become our president. That view is an insult to our framers. It is compelled by nothing in our Constitution. It should be rejected by anyone with any understanding of our democratic traditions  — most important, the electors themselves.
The framers believed, as Alexander Hamilton put it, that “the sense of the people should operate in the choice of the [president].†But no nation had ever tried that idea before. So the framers created a safety valve on the people’s choice. Like a judge reviewing a jury verdict, where the people voted, the electoral college was intended to confirm — or not — the people’s choice. Electors were to apply, in Hamilton’s words, “a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice†— and then decide. The Constitution says nothing about “winner take all.†It says nothing to suggest that electors’ freedom should be constrained in any way. Instead, their wisdom — about whether to overrule “the people†or not — was to be free of political control yet guided by democratic values. They were to be citizens exercising judgment,  not cogs turning a wheel.
The Electoral College was, in part, set up to provide protection to States and their Rights within our Federal Republic. It was so no one state could dominate others, much like there are checks so that the majority cannot tyrannize the minority.
Writer Laurence Lessig, who, shockingly!, is a big proponent of many vastly left wing policies, and goes on to mention how two presidents, Benjamin Harrison and George W. Bush, lost the popular vote but won the electoral vote, even trotting out the Left’s favorite word, “selected”, bandied about by Liberals in their apoplexy and unhingedness post 2000.
In both cases, the result violated what has become one of the most important principles governing our democracy — one person, one vote. In both cases, the votes of some weighed much more heavily than the votes of others. Today, the vote of a citizen in Wyoming is four times as powerful as the vote of a citizen in Michigan. The vote of a citizen in Vermont is three times as powerful as a vote in Missouri. This denies Americans the fundamental value of a representative democracy — equal citizenship. Yet nothing in our Constitution compels this result.
First, if one person, one vote, then why do Democrats fight so hard against measures, such as voter ID, to make sure that the people voting are who they say they are?
Second, we see the real gripe, namely, that people in non-Democratic Party states are actually given power, exactly as the Framers intended. It’s the same reasoning that gives tiny Blue state Delaware the same number of Senators as mega-Blue state California. If you do not know the reasons, you’ve failed Civics 101, thanks to the uber-leftist education system.
The framers left the electors free to choose. They should exercise that choice by leaving the election as the people decided it: in Clinton’s favor.
That would, in actuality, negate the votes of all the people who voted Trump in the majority of States, giving people in certain states the Power, destroying the idea of a Federal Republic. The system worked. Democrats say they love our Constitution: this electoral college drumbeat provides further evidence that they despise it.
Now, just imagine the situation was reversed: Lessig and outlets like the Washington Post would be telling us all about the integrity of the election, that the Electoral College should uphold the votes for their states regardless of the popular vote, etc and so on. Because everything is about power with them, not principles.

Alright, I said yesterday’s post on how liberals can survive Thanksgiving with their family and friends would be the last one. But, hey, this is just too irresistible, as the Washington Post, one of the nation’s top papers, allows Alexandra Petri, a long time WP columnist, to indulge herself
How to survive Thanksgiving 2016
how can you speak to your family at thanksgiving?
how can you speak to anyone ever again?
do not attempt to converse with anyone over the meal
instead whisper your retorts into a cluster of reeds
carry this cluster of reeds with you throughout the thanksgiving meal
plant them by the side of the highway where they can scream obscenities at passersby and sometimes just ask for more stuffingbefore the meal make a sweep of the house
you must find a place to hide for when the purge begins
or when grandma says something you don’t agree with
which is like a purge in some ways
either way you should familiarize yourself with household decorations that can be transformed into rudimentary weapons
just in casewarn your family that if they speak the Forbidden Name three times you will shake off your skin and become a thing of rage and indignation that is too fearsome to behold
last week you accidentally turned on Fox News and bit a bat in half
you don’t know yet what you are capable of
when you recovered yourself your bank account was empty and mike pence’s office was calling and you don’t know what happened
I’m having a tough time deciding if she’s serious or utterly making fun of Safe Space Snowflakes and all the “advice” they’ve been giving their liberal brethren while using balladry. Reading the rest (hit the link) makes me lean towards the latter.
Fortunately, Excitable E.J. Dionne is more serious on The Way To Prevent Thanksgiving Armageddon.
As for his supporters, they dismiss us as snobbish left-wing elitists completely out of touch with what’s happening in the “real America.â€
Interesting. Liberals call us Flyover Country, and say we live in Jesusland and Dumbfuckistan, obviously none of which are complementary. Thankfully, Salon, a hotbed of Leftist insanity, provides multiple articles, including one on how to survive the post election holidays. Why restrict yourself to just wondering how to survive Thanksgiving?

I’m quite confidant that we will be treated to man more sob stories from illegal aliens in the pages of the Times, along with many other Leftist media outlets, over the next 6+ months. In this case, a Mr. Lundy Khoy
Mr. Trump: I Am an Immigrant With a Criminal Record
I arrived in the United States on Nov. 12, 1981, when I was 1. My parents had fled the Pol Pot genocide in Cambodia, in which over two million people were murdered. I was born in a refugee camp in Thailand before moving to California, and then Virginia.
None of these facts may seem important, but I assure you, they are. My parents and I were granted legal permanent resident status; my brother and sister, who were born here, are citizens. The three of us were typical American kids, eating Cheerios for breakfast and taking the bus to school. We went to Disneyland and religiously watched the Fourth of July fireworks from the beach. As a teenager I attended school dances in all of their crepe glory. I am not an American citizen, but there is no way I am not an American.
Donald J. Trump said that his administration will “get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, we have a lot of these people, probably two million, it could be even three million.†He continued, “We are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate. But we’re getting them out of our country.â€
I’m not a gang member. I’m not a drug dealer. But I have a criminal record, and I’m afraid.
Can you see the strawman? Remember when the NY Times said they would start doing actual reporting? Of course, we know that was a bunch of hooey, and that it would certainly never apply to the feelings, er, opinion, pages. Left out is that Trump was talking specifically about illegal aliens.
Here’s the upshot of Mr. Khoy’s issue: like many in college, he got a little wild and was busted with Ecstasy, and charged with intent to sell, as he had 7 tablets. He plead guilty, spend 3 months in the slammer, then served 4 years probation. He was supposedly a model guy afterwards. Then
Then, in 2004, I went for what I thought was a routine visit to my probation officer. I had even brought along my most recent report card to show the growth I had made. What I encountered was a multitude of officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, instructing me to hand over my possessions and stand spread-eagle against the wall. As my probation officer gave me an apologetic look, they escorted me out of the office, handcuffed me and eventually took me to Hampton Roads Regional Jail, in southern Virginia.
By the terms of law, anyone here on any legal status can be booted out for a variety of reasons, including drug offenses (excluding minor marijuana). But, after spending 9 months in a detention facility, he was released, and, never deported.
This spring, I received a pardon from the governor of Virginia that mentioned my “commitment to good citizenship.†But immigration law is separate from criminal law, and my record still exists. Even though the state has forgiven my crime, the federal government could still decide to deport me. I am not eligible for citizenship.
Being not eligible for citizenship is on him, not us. Being eligible to be kicked out is also on him. You make choices in life. Should he be deported? Not in my opinion. He’s paid the penalty for his crimes.
Deporting me may be within the authority of the law, but I implore Mr. Trump and his supporters to look past my mistakes. Every year I stay here is one more year I grow and acquire skills and knowledge that allow me to contribute more to this country. By giving me the tremendous opportunity to remain here, you would be allowing me to truly live how I’ve felt I’ve lived my entire life: as an American.
Again, revel in the strawman. No one is talking about people like Mr. Khoy. He’s not an illegal alien. The country welcomed those escaping Pol Pot. Khoy could have applied for citizenship much earlier. Regardless, he’s not an illegal. Trump hasn’t said anything about going after those here under permanent legal residence status.
The whole intent here is to offer up a sob story which equates legal immigrants with illegal aliens, linking the two so that people get weepy eyed over kicking the illegals out as people confuse the two statuses.
