Trump’s Press Secretary Is A Stalinist Or Something

Usually, people in the Media Industrial Complex (MIC) go with fascist or some sort of Nazi/Hitler reference. This is a new one by Excitable Richard Cohen at the Washington Post

Sean Spicer’s Stalinist apparition

Sean Spicer is the appropriate face of the new Trump administration. He is the White House press secretary, the spokesman and all of that, and he came into the briefing room on Saturday wearing the blank expression of Laurence Harvey after turning over the queen of diamonds in “The Manchurian Candidate.” You’ve heard of a molotov cocktail. Spicer was wearing a molotov face.

Vyacheslav Molotov was Joseph Stalin’s foreign minister. He was so scared of Stalin that when the Soviet dictator ordered Molotov’s wife exiled to Siberia and called for a vote by the leadership on the issue, Molotov abstained. In his dealing with foreign governments, Molotov never strayed from Stalin’s line, no matter how unreasonable. When confronted with facts, logic or the truth, he might break into a sweat. Usually, though, he just looked like Spicer. (snip)

Trump is a human dust devil, spinning off analogies and references. He is Orwellian, Kafkaesque and always chillingly demagogic. He vilifies the press as Hitler and others once vilified Jews — mysterious, powerful, deceitful, unpatriotic. He looks to his schoolboy past for an American future — a tall country in a world otherwise flattened by World War II — and he blames the relative decline not on automation or the inevitable rise of China, but on the indifference and selfishness of the establishment. Like a sleepy child in a creaking house, he imagines boogeymen everywhere.

Whoops, there’s the Hitler reference!

Finally, we have the Stalinist apparition of Sean Spicer, running through his several paragraphs of deceit Saturday like a hostage fearing for his life — or Molotov remembering that his wife, whom he adored, was in Stalin’s gulag. What does a press secretary have but his own credibility? Richard Nixon over time shredded Ronald Ziegler of his, but Nixon’s lies were for a time unprovable. Not so Trump’s. He stood before the wall of the fallen and said his differences with the CIA were concocted by the media. He lied about that, then lied about the turnout for his inaugural address, and then shoved Spicer out into the briefing room to lie about the lies. Trump wants to destroy his enemies. First, though, he’ll destroy his friends.

Good grief. Will the MIC folks be able to keep their apoplexy going strong for the next 4 years? Will they ever realize that Trump beat them like a rented mule, and that their credibility is gone? And that Trump is not your standard Republican, and will not be cowed by the MIC like most elected Republican officials? That he will fight back on a constant basis? Probably not.

Bummer: California’s Cap And Trade System May Be Unconstitutional

It must have been extremely painful for the LA Times to write this, considering their years long support of Hotcoldwetdry initiatives

The immediate threat to California’s climate-change fight isn’t Trump, it’s this

With President Trump in the Oval Office, California officials are bracing for the possibility that the new administration will undermine the state’s landmark policies on climate change. But the more immediate threat isn’t coming from Washington; it lies in a lawsuit that has been slowly winding its way through state courts.

The 4-year-old legal challenge pursued by the California Chamber of Commerce and a collection of business interests argues that the cap-and-trade program represents an unconstitutional tax. The system, intended to create a financial incentive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, requires companies to purchase permits to pollute.

For Gov. Jerry Brown and the environmental community, the lawsuit has been a ticking time bomb that could eliminate a key source of revenue and undermine a program touted as an international model for fighting global warming.

Eventually, they get around to explaining why

Opponents disagree, noting that the state is collecting revenue through a program that wasn’t created with a two-thirds vote in both houses of the Legislature, the threshold needed to approve taxes.

“What they’re doing is simply outside the law,” said Loren Kaye, president of the California Foundation for Commerce and Education, a think tank affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce.

Law shmaw, they have Warmism to accomplish! Doesn’t matter that this kind of thing hurts the poor and middle classes, and that the people pushing this the most use more than their fair share of fossil fuels and have bigger carbon footprints. Everyone Else must comply.

Everybody Panic: Trump Has More Power To Quarantine People!

Today’s prognostication of doom has brought the Surrender Monkey back, as the NY Times’ Kyle Edwards, Wendy Parment, and Scott Burris hyperventilate

Why the C.D.C.’s Power to Quarantine Should Worry Us
The administration of Donald J. Trump has even more authority to detain people than the Obama administration had during the Ebola crisis.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new regulations this month that give it broad authority to quarantine Americans. The rules outline for the first time how the federal government can restrict interstate travel during a health crisis, and they establish in-house oversight of whether someone should be detained, without providing a clear and direct path to challenge a quarantine order in federal court.

Notice how the Three Snowflakes fail to mention that these regulations were passed during Obama’s time in office. Remember when the media was quick to trot the meme of “inherited problems”? If these three NY Times Snowflakes are so concerned, perhaps they should have had that concern when Team Obama was passing regulations willy nilly over the past 8 years. But, hey, now

State and local authorities had previously been the ones to usually deal with issues like this during epidemics. Now the administration of Donald J. Trump has even more authority to detain people than the Obama administration had during the Ebola crisis. It’s imperative that whenever the next outbreak hits, emergency health measures are grounded in scientific evidence and guided by clear, fair rules to protect people from wrongful deprivation of their liberties.

The Three Snowflakes mention two incidents: first, when Governor Chris Christie detained a nurse, Kaci Hickox, who had returned from Ebola ravaged Sierra Leone. You know who Christie was trying to protect? The general public, since Hickox loved going out in public with lots of people around, rather than staying at home. Perhaps Christie went too far. Then imagine had she spread Ebola around, and how the media would have destroyed not Hickox, but Christie.

Also mentioned was a bubonic plague outbreak. In 1900. When the Democrats in charge quarantined all the Chinese in San Francisco’s Chinatown. To which the Three Snowflakes write

Given this history, we want to ensure that federal officials applying the new regulations will act on the basis of science and evidence and not on politics and public fear.

1900.

Remember, though, this is all about Trump Derangement Syndrome, so

During the 2014 Ebola outbreak, Mr. Trump tweeted, contrary to the judgment of Ebola experts, that West Africans and American health care workers returning from “Ebola-infected countries” should be barred from entering the United States. During his campaign, he said that Mexican immigrants bring “tremendous infectious disease” across the border, which is a lie. Given this history, we cannot dismiss the possibility that his administration would respond to an epidemic (real or feared) in a way that is sensational, discriminatory or ignorant of science.

First, 77% of citizens agreed with a travel ban. That was a rise in a week from 6 in 10. Because Ebola is rather scary.

As far as bringing infectious disease across the border? Trump may have overstated it, but, in fact, many illegals, not even necessarily Mexicans, but those sneaking across from other nations, are bringing disease. But, hey, this is about TDS, and scaremongering what Trump may possibly maybe could we feel it could happen. Doomsaying prognostication, which is what passes for journalism these days.

Hotcoldwetdry Could Increase Lake Effect Snow

It’s always something with these pseudo-religionists

Climate Change Could Bring More Lake-Effect Snow – For a Few Decades

Lake-effect snow occurs every winter downwind of the Great Lakes and several other large bodies of water, as long as the necessary conditions are met: cold air crossing over a relatively warmer lake surface, which picks up moisture to condense into clouds and dumps heavy snow downwind of the lakes. But as the Earth’s climate changes, how much longer will these ingredients continue to come together? (snip)

If our planet’s temperatures are getting warmer, surely that must mean there will be less lake-effect snow in the future. If the air isn’t cold, how are we going to get lake-effect snow to form?

Actually, it’s the opposite, according to a recent study by NOAA’s Tom Di Liberto. The study suggests there will actually be more lake-effect snow in the Great Lakes snowbelts, at least for a while.

Lake-effect snow is directly related to how warm and ice-free the lakes are, as well as the difference between the lake temperatures and the temperature of the air blowing over them.

Ok.

There is one hiccup in the hypothesis of a warmer climate leading to increased lake-effect snow, said Di Liberto: “The cold air that flows over the lakes will also be getting warmer over time, which would favor less lake-effect snow. It’s like an epic game of climate change tug-of-war.”

So, eventual doom for lake effect snows, which, apparently, will increase up till 2050 (they love that year), and then fall off from climate change doom.

Regardless, Di Liberto said recent research has suggested lake-effect snow totals along Lake Superior and Lake Michigan have increased from 1927 to 2007. Previous research found increases for the entire Great Lakes region between 1931 and 2001.

Have you ever noticed that their “science” always supports their notions, and always ends in doom? And that mankind is always to blame?

Bummer: ‘Climate Change’ To Lead To More Pleasant UK Weather

Which means doom, in case you didn’t know

(Daily Mail) Britain is in a climate change ‘sweet spot’ which could give us an extra fortnight of fine weather every year, researchers say

Britain is in a climate change ‘sweet spot’ which could mean an extra two weeks of fine weather every year, according to new research.

Days that are perfect for outdoor weddings, picnics or barbecues will increase due to an ‘overlooked benefit’ of global warming, say scientists.

The first analysis of its kind maps the winners and losers where climate change will affect the frequency of mild weather – when cricket, fishing, boating and hiking can also be best enjoyed.

You know, like happened during the Medieval Warm Period, and surely the previous Holocene warm periods. Or whatever they did for fun on warm days.

Britain and Northern Europe will gain as much as 10 to 15 days extra mild weather annually by the end of the 21st Century.

People living in the mid latitudes, which include much of the United States, as well as many mountainous areas around the world, will get more mild weather.

I’m not seeing the downside. People can get outside more, exercise (while looking at their smartphones), enjoy nature (while looking at their smartphones), just get fresh air (while looking at their smartphone).

Of course, the Warmists at Mother Jones can only see Dooooooom, which includes a sad looking dog sitting in a car while it rains

Picture the perfect picnic day: It’s neither too hot nor too cold, neither too humid nor too dry. The sun is shining, and there’s little chance of rain. For many of our outdoor activities, these are the days we care about and plan for. And yet, in the last few decades of climate research, scientists haven’t spent much time researching these “mild weather” days. (snip)

Ticking off a couple of days here and there doesn’t sound too bad when you’re planning for picnics or hikes. But, as Kapnick points out, mild weather days also affect critical economic activities, including construction, infrastructure projects, agriculture, and air and rail travel. Such shrinking and shifting of mild weather could lead to significant negative economic consequences, not to mention a threat to our global food supply. Even for the handful of regions around the world where mild weather is predicted to increase, there could be unexpected consequences. “People in sunny California know that just because you have sunny, lovely weather, mild weather, doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a good thing for your water resources,” says Kapnick.

Suddenly, The Permanent Campaign Is Problematic Because Trump

Politicians are in permanent campaign, and have been for quite some time. Certainly, Mr. Obama did this, even after his 2nd presidential election, and he wasn’t just campaigning for other Democrats (most of them who really didn’t want him around), but as if he was going to run for a 3rd term. Now, though, many in the Media Industrial Complex are complaining. I’ve caught a few tweets from them, and now this from Excitable Doyle McManus at the LA Times

Trump’s permanent campaign won’t help him keep his promises

In 1976, 10 presidential terms ago, an advisor to then-President-elect Jimmy Carter told him he should keep campaigning forever, even after his inauguration.

“Governing with public approval requires a continuing political campaign,” Patrick Caddell told Carter. The doctrine became known as “the permanent campaign,” and every president since has followed it.

President Trump has now extended the principle even further than his predecessors: He seems to think “permanent” means “constant.”

Hmm, so we’re going to change the language to complain? Cute. But, why is it “constant”?

Most new presidents use their inauguration to move forward, appeal to opponents for a joint effort at unity, and set some clear goals for the next four years.

Not Trump. He’s still stumping. After stretching his campaign past Election Day with a series of raucous victory rallies, he gave an inaugural address on Friday that replicated, in only slightly more elevated language, the pitch that helped him win the presidency.

In other words, Trump said in his inaugural address that he intended to do the exact things he said he would do during the campaign. As John Hinderaker wrote, if you thought he was kidding, think again.

Of course, what McManus means is that Trump, like other GOP presidents, is supposed to abandon his campaign promises and work to enact the Democratic Party agenda.

His speech reprised all the themes that built a successful insurgency among mostly white, mostly middle class voters. He didn’t say or do much, if anything, to try to expand his coalition. There was no explicit outreach to the majority of voters who didn’t choose him in November. Most important, he didn’t signal how he plans to get anything done.

Pro-tip: you lost. You know who has to change? You! The winners don’t have to change their promises and beliefs for the losers. We had this notion rammed down our throats during the Obama years. So, deal with it.

As far as outreach goes, Trump said “We are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people,” and that January 20, 2017 “will be remembered as the day that the people became the rulers of his nation again.” Obviously, Progressives are unhappy about returning power to the people.

Liberals Continue Their Spree Of Vandalism In Boone, NC

The Smartest People In The Room just can’t move on to bargaining, much less acceptance. Anger will be the norm for at least the next four years

(Watauga Democrat)  Graffiti — including profane statements about President Donald Trump and the words “Black Lives Matter” — was tagged on multiple buildings and a police vehicle in downtown Boone sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

“As chief of police, I assure the citizens of Boone that this case will be a priority for us,” said Boone Police Chief Dana Crawford in a statement. “It is deeply disturbing that some people believe that they have the right to damage other people’s property and businesses to express their views in an unlawful way. While people have the right to disagree with any elected official, damaging innocent people’s property is not consistent with Boone values.”

Earth Fare, the Dan’l Boone Inn along with Appalachian State’s Anne Belk Hall, Peacock Hall and Legends were hit by the graffiti, with all statements being clearly visible. ASU removed all graffiti on their buildings as did Dan’l Boone Inn, while Earth Fare had the vandalism painted over by Saturday afternoon.

Welcome to the long era of liberal tantrums. And guess who gets to pay for the cleaning? The taxpayers and private businesses.

Who could have done this? Perhaps not who you think.

Well, not sure it was a hate crime to start with, but, those too surely white liberals, who bought the paint and then took off in a Prius, are being sought by the police. You can see more pictures of them and the damage here. Some of the graffiti is supposedly so bad that no one wants to publish it.

Nor is this the first time Boone was hit with anti-Trump graffiti. Some surely white liberals did the same on 12.27. Conservatives didn’t do this. We don’t have the time nor inclination. Besides: we won.
