Forget The Permanent Drought, The Permanent Flood Will Cause More Orovilles

No, really

Leading to this UK Guardian screed

Expect to see more emergencies like Oroville Dam in a hotter world
Scientists predicted decades ago that climate change would add stress to water management systems like Oroville Dam

The evacuation of nearly 200,000 people near Oroville Dam is the kind of event that makes climate change personal. A co-worker of mine was forced out of his home for several days by the emergency evacuation, and another friend was visiting Lake Oroville and happened to leave 15 minutes before the evacuation order was issued.

Like many extreme events, the Oroville emergency is a combination of natural weather likely intensified by climate change. California regularly sees “atmospheric rivers” that deluge the state with rainfall, but in a hotter world, scientists anticipate that they’ll be amplified by an increase in the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere.

OK, you know where this is going. Doom and gloom from ‘climate change’, but, now it is from flooding, instead of the previously pimped permanent drought. It all shows that no matter what happens, the Cult of Climastrology is willing to find a way to link it to ‘climate change.’

Surprise: Climate Models Vastly Overstate Actual Warming

Climate models have long been shown to be garbage. Among the many studies of varying degrees, one of the best was the most poignant was when Dr. Roy Spencer showed that 95% of the models were wrong. And then we have this

Climate Models Are Warming Earth Two Times Faster Than Reality

Climate models show twice as much warming during the 21st Century than what’s actually been observed, according to a new report highlighting the limitations of global climate models, or GCMs.

“So far in the 21st century, the GCMs are warming, on average, about a factor of 2 faster than the observed temperature increase,” Dr. Judith Curry, a former Georgia Tech climate scientist who now runs her own climate forecasting company, wrote in a report for the U.K.-based Global Warming Policy Foundation. (snip)

“The reason for the discrepancy between observations and model simulations in the early 21st century appears to be caused by a combination of inadequate simulations of natural internal variability and oversensitivity of the models to increasing carbon dioxide,” wrote Curry.

Climate models assume carbon dioxide is the control knob for average global temperature and fail to take into account “the patterns and timing of multidecadal ocean oscillations” and “future solar variations and solar indirect effects on climate,” Curry explains.

It’s long been a case of making the output of the models match the preconceived notions of Warmist scientists. In actual science, if the data doesn’t fit, then the models and hypothesis must be wrong. When it comes to members of the Cult of Climastrology, they flip the notion, and simply change the data and force the models to give them the prognostications of doom they want.

But climate model problems predate the recent warming “pause.” Chip Knappenberger and Patrick Michaels, climate scientists at the libertarian Cato Institute, have long criticized most climate models, which they say have not accurately predicted global temperature rises for the past six decades.

The models do not even work when you apply them to past warming (and said warming is utterly within the norm of a Holocene warm period).

Even the recent string of “record warm” years are below what most climate models predicted. A recent El Nino temporarily brought global average temperature in agreement with most climate models, but the globe is expected to cool in the coming years as the tropics cool.

Which, of course, prompts Warmists to trot out all sorts of Excuses, usually blaming nature. In their world, though, nature cannot cause the warming.

None of this matters to the Cult of Climastrology in the least: the movement is not about the climate, it’s about being anti-capitalist and creating massive centralized government that controls all aspects of people’s lives, private entities, and economies.

Good News: Coming Deportation Orders Allow Far More Deportations

That “good news” is not snarky in the least: the government deporting more people who are unlawfully present in the country is most certainly a good thing. Unless you are a liberal who supports people breaking the law unreservedly

(NY Times) President Trump has directed his administration to enforce the nation’s immigration laws more aggressively, unleashing the full force of the federal government to find, arrest and deport those in the country illegally, regardless of whether they have committed serious crimes.

Documents released on Tuesday by the Department of Homeland Security revealed the broad scope of the president’s ambitions: to publicize crimes by undocumented immigrants; strip such immigrants of privacy protections; enlist local police officers as enforcers; erect new detention facilities; discourage asylum seekers; and, ultimately, speed up deportations.

The new enforcement policies put into practice language that Mr. Trump used on the campaign trail, vastly expanding the definition of “criminal aliens” and warning that such unauthorized immigrants “routinely victimize Americans,” disregard the “rule of law and pose a threat” to people in communities across the United States.

If they’ve committed a crime, that means they’re a….let me consult a dictionary and a law book….criminal! Besides the fact that they’re in the country in violation of the law to start with.

Of course, the rest of the front page article is chock full of bits which are against Trump, and yammer on about creating an atmosphere of fear for….people who are living outside the law. It makes them super worried about being deported. Well, good. They should be.

“Under this executive order, ICE will not exempt classes or categories of removal aliens from potential enforcement,” a fact sheet released by the Department of Homeland Security said, using the acronym for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “All of those present in violation of the immigration laws may be subject to immigration arrest, detention, and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States.”

The Times is aghast that this could include those who have abused any official government assistance program! The horror! Illegals should be allowed to take money that could otherwise be used for citizens and those lawfully present! Dreamers will supposedly be exempt, except for those with criminal backgrounds. It also vastly expands “expedited removal.” And well it should. You’re caught in the country illegally? Goodbye. Quickly.

For truly unhinged, we have to flip the page to the opinion section, where the Editorial Board has climbed into the belfry and dropped most of their marbles along the way

Mr. Trump’s ‘Deportation Force’ Prepares an Assault on American Values

The homeland security secretary, John Kelly, issued a remarkable pair of memos on Tuesday. They are the battle plan for the “deportation force” President Trump promised in the campaign.

They are remarkable for how completely they turn sensible immigration policies upside down and backward. For how they seek to make the deportation machinery more extreme and frightening (and expensive), to the detriment of deeply held American values.

Much of the unhinged editorial repeats what’s in the article, just with more apoplexy. It notes that Mr. Obama focused on criminals and recent border jumpers and stuff, but

Mr. Kelly has swept away those notions. He makes practically every deportable person a deportation priority. He wants everybody, starting with those who have been convicted of any crime, no matter how petty or old. Proportionality, discretion, the idea that some convictions are unjust, the principles behind criminal-justice reform — these concepts do not apply.

Doooooom! Of course, we’re not sticking them all in jail: we’re just sending them out of the U.S., back where they came from. At the end of the day, this is not on us, because the illegals made a choice to break the law. Actions have consequences. Some good, some bad.

When every local law enforcement encounter can be a prelude to deportation, unauthorized immigrants will fear and avoid the police.

So, maybe they self-deport.

And when state and local officers untrained in immigration law suddenly get to decide who stays and who goes, the risk of injustice is profound.

Nowhere in the plan does it say they get this power. Of course, it’s all pretty easy. “Are you here in the Unites States legally?” “No.” “OK, bye!”

Mr. Kelly promised before his confirmation to be a reasonable enforcer of defensible policies. But immigrants have reason to be frightened by his sudden alignment with Mr. Trump’s nativism. So does every American who believes that the country is, or should be, committed to the sensible, proportionate application of laws, welcoming to immigrants, and respectful of the facts.

The facts? They’re unlawfully present, whether they came illegally or overstayed their visas. The Law says they shouldn’t be here. As far as it goes, both the news and opinion sections became apoplectic when ICE swept up hundreds and hundreds of illegals the other week, most of whom had serious criminal backgrounds, such as rape, assault, molestation of a child, and coming back to the US after being deported again and again. What is this proportionality they’re yammering about? Should we let child abusers stay? People who have committed identity theft? The law is the law.

Of course, in Liberal World, the law is a moving target based on political votes.

Team Trump Mulling Fate Of Contraception Mandate

This is horrible! People might actually have to pay a tiny amount for their own contraception, sterilization procedures, and abortion pills!

(The Hill) The era of free birth control for women could be coming to an end.

The requirement that insurance companies cover contraception at no cost is believed to be on the chopping block now that Tom Price has taken over the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Price opposed the mandate as a member of Congress and could take aim at the regulation — and other rules related to ObamaCare — as Republicans in Congress move to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

There’s no such thing as free. Someone is paying for it, and, with Ocare, this meant higher premiums for all. Realistically, the mandate, which had zero basis in law, since it appears nowhere with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), was meant to pander to women, in an attempt to gain their support. So, now, if you force all these super empowered women to pay a measly $9 a month for birth control pills, it will mean you hate women, and Democrats can trot out their war on women meme again.

Conservative Republicans have opposed the mandate since it was issued by the Obama administration, saying it infringes on religious liberty by requiring employers to pay for contraception coverage, regardless of their beliefs.

It does infringe on religious liberty.

Now that Republicans hold Congress and the White House, they have the chance to do away with the mandate entirely.

Reversing the birth-control mandate would not necessarily require an act of Congress. HHS could issue a regulation excluding birth control from the list of women’s preventive health services that insurers must cover with no cost sharing.

Getting rid of it is as easy as waving a pen. It was a rule created out of thin air by HHS, not a requirement via the PPACA. Then, if insurance companies want to offer this as an elective, they have that choice.

Prepare for Unhinged Level 10 from Progressives.

‘Climate Change’ Could Bring Fish Wars!

No, this is not a new series on Discovery Channel, it’s yet another insane prognostication from the Cult of Climastrology, which is about as lucid and reasonable as Sharknado

Global ‘fish wars’ could break out as climate change and rising nationalism fuel competition for world’s oceans

The twin threats of climate change and growing nationalism could lead to an outbreak of conflicts over fish stocks – like the infamous Cod Wars between the UK and Iceland – that could threaten the global supply of food and “decimate” marine ecosystems, experts have warned.

Speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s annual meeting in Boston on Thursday, a panel of experts said that with the right management and international co-operation the number of fish in the sea and the amount caught by fishing fleets could increase over the coming decades.

However, they warned rising temperatures were prompting many species to move to different parts of the sea, which could threaten some individual countries’ economies and access to food.

And this, fuelled by the growth in nationalist sentiments, could see a new “era of fish wars” as countries compete for stocks.

Did you see catch it? Second paragraph. Yet another call for more Big Governmental control. This is always their response.

What they’re doing here is merging two issues into one in order to prop up globalism, increase international government, and push Hotcoldwetdry. As to the last, they conveniently forget that the climate is always changing. Fish do not care. They do their thing, like they always have.

Fish wars. Good grief.

Trump, A Critic Of Obama Playing Golf, Plays Golf Or Something

We now have the first official Credentialed Media complaint of Trump playing golf because he noted Obama playing golf. This is yet another reason why we say the media has an agenda

Trump, a frequent critic of Obama’s golfing, played 18 holes Sunday with Rory MclIroy

President Trump, who pledged as candidate to limit his golfing to when it was also conducive to conducting business, enjoyed a full round Sunday with Rory McIlroy, one of the best players in the world, a spokeswoman said Monday.

McIlroy rode in the cart for all 18 holes with the president at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., according to No Laying Up, a golfing publication, which also quoted MclIroy saying that Trump “probably shot around 80. He’s a decent player for a guy in his 70’s!”

Trump may have made that pledge, but, I can’t find it anywhere. I see one where he stated he wouldn’t take any big vacations, but, nothing about golf.

As a candidate, Trump often criticized President Barack Obama for his frequent golfing, claiming that Obama played more often than professionals.

“While our wonderful president was out playing golf all day, the TSA is falling apart, just like our government!” Trump said on Twitter last year, referring to the Transportation Security Administration. “Airports a total disaster!”

Trump has also said that he would only play with world leaders and other people with whom he was seeking to make deals. He did that last weekend in Florida with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe — an outing the press was not allowed to witness.

Again, I cannot find that pledge. Regardless, what we have here is a typical media shot at a Republican, in this case Trump, which they wouldn’t take at Obama.

The complaint about Obama playing golf mostly wasn’t aimed at Obama: heck, it would have been better if he spent all his time on the golf course and away from ruining the country. The meme started out over media complaints about President George W Bush playing golf with big things happening in the world, yet, the media had no problem with Obama doing the same. In fact, they constantly either ignored the issue or attempted to defend Obama.

Of course, Bush never did something like come off the golf course to make a brief, disengaged statement when an American, James Foley, had been beheaded by Islamic terrorists, then went on to hit the links. He hit the links after the Berlin attack. After a briefing on the horrendous Louisiana floods. During crisis, he spent a lot of time playing golf and fundraising.

Obama played 306 rounds of golf during his eight years. Trump has a long way to catch up. And, if Trump plays while a crisis unfolds, he deserves a large heaping of abuse. You can bet, though, that the media will suddenly have a renewed interest in the time POTUS spends taking a break to play golf.

Trump Is Supposedly Ready To Kill Off Obama ‘Climate” And Water Regulations

Trump made many promises on rolling back may Obama regulations regarding ‘climate change’ and that stymie domestic energy production. Washington Post writers Juliet Eilperin and Steve Mufson trot out a story based on discussions with, you got it, anonymous sources on what these roll-backs will be, which seem rather legit. Though, of course, painted with an “OMG, doom!” brush

President Trump is preparing executive orders aimed at reversing Obama-era policies on climate and water pollution, according to individuals briefed on the measures.

While both directives will take time to implement, they will send an unmistakable signal that the new administration is determined to promote fossil-fuel production and economic activity even when those activities collide with some environmental safeguards. Individuals familiar with the proposals asked for anonymity to describe them in advance of their announcement, which could come as soon as this week.

People who are out of a job or are making low wages because nothing else is available aren’t too concerned with reducing a bit of carbon dioxide, which, really, has little to do with environmental health in Reality Land.

One executive order, aimed at bolstering American energy independence, will instruct the Environmental Protection Agency to begin rewriting the 2015 regulation that limits greenhouse-gas emissions from existing electric utilities. It also instructs the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to lift a moratorium on federal coal leasing.

The first sounds like the Clean Power Plan, which Trump vowed to kill off. It was placed on hold by a federal judge pending court litigation

A second order will instruct the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers to revamp a 2015 rule, known as the Waters of the United States rule, that applies to 60 percent of the water bodies in the country. That regulation — issued under the 1972 Clean Water Act, which gives the federal government authority over not only major water bodies but also the wetlands, rivers and streams that feed into them — restricts development as well as some farming operations on the grounds that these activities could pollute the smaller or intermittent bodies of water or choke them off altogether.

The rule itself has also already been halted by a federal court after the Obama EPA was sued by cities, states, and individuals, at least until such time as it could be argued in court. The EPA initially stated this would be no big deal, it wouldn’t encroach on farmers, ranchers, private citizens, private and government projects. In fact, they objected so much that you could be sure this was a massive power grab. Do you have an area on your property that ponds or creates a stream after it rains? The EPA would now have control of your land. It’s beyond even the normal federal agency overreach. Rather than reiterate all the problems, read this Daren Bakst article.

If this happens, it is a good start. These rules represent a massive shift in power from the private sector, the cities, counties, and states to the federal government, and, particularly, the EPA. There are more than enough rules on water rights that make the Waters of the U.S. rule unnecessary.

Hopefully, next up will be the demolishing of America’s involvement in the Paris Climate Agreement, which is really Obama’s involvement forcing Everyone Else to be a part.
