Trump’s Tactics Of Fear At The Border Seem To Be Working

This has made the Washington Post very sad

In many ways, President Trump’s attempts to implement his hard-line immigration policies have not gone very well in his first three months. His travel ban aimed at some Muslim-majority countries has been blocked by the courts, his U.S.-Mexico border wall has gone nowhere in Congress, and he has retreated, at least for now, on his vow to target illegal immigrants brought here as children.

But one strategy that seems to be working well is fear. The number of migrants, legal and illegal, crossing into the United States has dropped markedly since Trump took office, while recent declines in the number of deportations have been reversed.

Many experts on both sides of the immigration debate attribute at least part of this shift to the use of sharp, unwelcoming rhetoric by Trump and his aides, as well as the administration’s showy use of enforcement raids and public spotlighting of crimes committed by immigrants. The tactics were aimed at sending a political message to those in the country illegally or those thinking about trying to come.

It’s working, and, guess what? The Democrat Media Complex is providing an enormous amount of help in this endeavor. All the articles, the opinion pieces, the hyperventilation on TV and social media, this all provides help to Mr. Trump and those of us who are against illegal immigration.

“The world is getting the message,” Trump said last week during a speech at the National Rifle Association leadership forum in Atlanta. “They know our border is no longer open to illegal immigration, and if they try to break in you’ll be caught and you’ll be returned to your home. You’re not staying any longer. If you keep coming back illegally after deportation, you’ll be arrested and prosecuted and put behind bars. Otherwise it will never end.”

In a sane world, that type of speech would be applauded for attempting to uphold our laws and sovereignty. In Liberal World, it’s a crime against humanity or something.

Deportations had fallen sharply in the final years of the Obama administration as the former president tightened enforcement guidelines to focus on hardened criminals. But under Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has begun to ramp up the number of immigrants who are being placed in removal proceedings.

Federal agents arrested 21,362 immigrants, mostly convicted criminals, from January through mid-March, compared with 16,104 during the same period last year, according to federal data. Arrests of immigrants with no criminal records more than doubled, to 5,441 in that period.

“This is the Trump era. Progress is being made daily, and it will continue,” declared Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has begun to reorganize the Justice Department to prosecute more immigration cases. “This will be the administration that fully enforces our nation’s immigration laws.”

Happy Dance!

The importation of “refugees” from areas ripe with Islamic extremism has also decreased heavily under Trump, meaning American women will not be exposed to the sexual assaults and rapes and simply uncivilized treatment that has been seen in all the European countries taking the “refugees” in.

Newish Prognostication: Inner California Will Soon Be Beachfront

Here we go again with the doomish fortune telling

A New Climate Change Prediction Is Bad News For One State

California could be in major trouble because of climate change. In some cases, landlocked regions could eventually have beaches.

An updated government report says in one severe scenario, sea levels could rise by 10 feet over the next the century.

That could mean tens of thousands of homes and businesses lost, as well as power plants, water treatment facilities and hundreds of miles of roadways in the coastal state.

Can you guess the cause?

The culprit in the study? It says loosely regulated greenhouse gas emissions. Fossil fuels are causing ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica to melt at increasingly faster rates.

No, they aren’t.

The government report in question, get this, is all for implementing more and bigger governmental control, as well as taxes and fees. Shocking, is it not? Government proposing more government and more funding for government.

Reading it, it seems divorced from actual data. It claims that sea rise has been occurring at the rate of 1mm per year over the last 8,000 years (prior to that it was much higher, due to the ending of the ice age, and the 8,000 figure is similar to what I use). That equates to 3.937 inches per century. However, the average per actual studies is 6-8 inches per century, so, a median figure of 177mm per century. Which is exactly what we saw during the 20th Century. Nor has it accelerated. We should be seeing much more during a Holocene warm period. In some areas we are, often due to subsistence.

The document is a political document, and the article uses the utter worst case computer modeled scenario, with lots of coulds and mights and maybes and we thinks. Even the best case scenarios are well beyond the reality of the data, and are simply political scaremongering to get people to give up more freedom and money to government. It even blames nature (page 23) for those tide gauges that are not complying with the Cult of Climastrology’s beliefs, particularly on tectonic actions, while those which show higher sea rise (which is still exactly in the sweet spot for an average period during the Holocene) are due strictly to people driving fossil fueled vehicles, living a modern lifestyle, and not giving up their freedom and money to government.

There is so much crazy in this document and not enough time to cover it, so, I’ll repeat for one final time: this is political scaremongering in order to increase government and government funding at the expense of liberty, freedom, and sacrificial earnings demanded by government, all by people who so often do not practice what they preach.

Thousands Of Little Socialists To Hit The Streets To Protest Trump Or Something

Happy May 1st! Today is the traditional celebration of May Day, an ancient day of celebration that goes back to Roman times. Things changed up a bit over time in what was being celebrated, and you can bet all the Special Snowflakes won’t be dancing around a Maypole nor holding devotions to the Virgin Mary. Nor towards St. Joseph The Worker, surrogate father to Jesus. Nor any of the other things it stands for, except for being a Socialist day of whining

(USA Today) International Worker’s Day

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators are expected to take to the streets Monday in massive May Day events across the USA mostly protesting the policies of President Trump.

May Day — also known as International Worker’s Day — has spawned protests around the globe in past years highlighting workers’ rights. But on Monday, the impetus for the U.S. marches span from immigrants’ rights to LGBT awareness to police misconduct.

“There’s a real galvanization of all the groups this year,” said Fernanda Durand of CASA in Action, which will lead a march of about 10,000 people for immigrants’ rights through downtown Washington. “Our presence in this country is being questioned by Donald Trump. We are tired of being demonized and scapegoated. We’ve had enough.”

In all fairness, had Hillary’s campaign been competent, listened to Bill Clinton, and campaigned in a few extra states, they would have still been in the streets agitating for the stuff they agitate for, demanding that she Do Something. Like give them a raise to $15 an hour, which, for a goodly chunk, would equal $0, since they’d be replaced by automation.

CASA in Action is a group in Maryland and Virginia that supports Latino people who have broken our federal immigration laws. And, yes, their presence is being questioned, because the illegals shouldn’t be here.

Durand’s protest is part of the Rise Up umbrella movement that promises 259 events in more than 200 cities in 41 states focusing on immigrants’ rights, she said.

Another widespread effort, dubbed Beyond the Movement, will feature a collection of racial-justice groups and include protests and marches in more than 50 cities, from Portland, Ore., to Miami.

Erick Sanchez, another Washington-based organizer, said he’s seen the melding of different groups in previous events this year, from the Women’s March on Washington to climate change awareness protests. Monday will be the culmination of gelling these disparate groups, he said.

In other words, the same old same old Leftist whiny groups whining about what they whine about. Instead of going to work.

Trump released a statement Friday declaring May 1 “Loyalty Day” as a way to “recognize and reaffirm our allegiance to the principles” upon which America was built, calling on all government buildings to display the U.S. flag and schools to observe the holiday with ceremonies.

Which, of course, means that a lot of whiny leftists will refuse to fly the American flag.

At least in Merry Old England, the youngsters use the day to dress to the 9’s and go on a bender. And the choir sings, the bells ring. And in the exotic vacation spot of Scotland, youngsters jump into the frigid North Sea in their skivvies. A few young ladies apparently forgot to wear a bra, or lost it in the waves, per the pictures.

Happy Sunday! It’s yet another gorgeous day in America. The sun is shining, the frogs are croaking (boy, they are loud), the Dodgers are finally above .500. This pinup is by Bill Medcalf, with a wee bit of help.

What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15

  1. The Daley Gator notes that you don’t have to be an uniformed buffoon to write for the NY Times, but it helps
  2. Independent Sentinel covers what Mexico says about the wall

While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets” calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts and things that interest me

Don’t forget to check out all the other great material all the linked blogs have!

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

NY Times: Expand Your World, Hit The Beach In Alabama

The NY Times opinion pages have given a platform to comedian W. Kamau Bell, the host of The United Shades Of America on CNN, to write what might be one of the best opinion pieces I’ve read in the Times in I cannot tell you how long. It is primarily aimed at the Liberals who read the NY Times and bob their head in a “yes” manner with all things slamming Trump and agreeing with people like Bernie Sanders. But, it should resonate with Republicans/Conservatives, as well

Expand Your World, Go to the Beach in Alabama

My dad and stepmom live in Mobile, Ala., and spend their vacation time an hour’s drive away in Orange Beach, Ala. This means that, throughout my life, I have regularly vacationed there as well.

Whenever I tell people in Berkeley, Calif., where I live, that I’m headed to the beach in Alabama, they are shocked. Most people outside of the Gulf Coast have no idea that Alabama has beaches….

I often try to convince my wife, Melissa, that we and our two daughters should vacation in Orange Beach more often. I try to persuade friends to come, too. It is the perfect fun-and-sun vacation. We stay across the street from the beach, which is perfect for my wife. The resort has an old-school arcade room with one of those claw machines, which is perfect for our older daughter, even though she has never won anything from it. And it has a lazy-river pool, where you can sit in an inner tube and let the underwater jets push you around while thinking that you may be experiencing the pinnacle of human achievement. That’s perfect for me.

But no one has taken us up on the invitation yet, because of one problematic word: Alabama. Nobody I know from the Bay Area has any interest in purposefully spending time in Alabama. Florida, maybe, but Alabama? Nah, that’s a hard pass.

You can see where Mr. Bell is going here, can you not? The snobbishness of Liberals when it comes to heading towards “flyover country” for a vacation. Unless it’s Florida. Even though, of course, these same Liberals head towards flyover country when they’ve become tired of the high taxes, crime, high cost of living, and domineering government, among others. But, this isn’t about that kind of stuff. It’s about understanding each other.

I have discovered that when you are black, saying “I’m headed to the South” to someone, especially a white person who is not from the South, is like saying, “I’m headed to my own lynching and I decided to bring the rope just to make it easier on the Klansmen.”

It is one of my enduring frustrations with this country. People live in their part of the Union, and if they don’t travel a lot, then there is a tendency to believe that the other parts of America couldn’t possibly be as American as their part. You can see it in the way people in the South scrunch up their faces when they hear words like “New York,” “Chicago” and “challah.” And you can also see it in the way people on the coast narrow their eyes when they hear words like “Louisiana,” “Kentucky” and “pork rinds.”

It’s a great point. There are so many wonderful parts of this country, so many things to consider and experience. I’ve lived primarily in North Carolina since starting at East Carolina U. in 1985. But, I still love New Jersey. People seem shocked that I say that. Even people from New Jersey who live here (and there are a lot). The Jersey (Joisey) Shore. You can head to the Pine Barrens and see the beauty, or up to the mountain areas in northwest Jersey. If you’ve never had corn or tomatoes from the state, you do NOT know what you are missing.

NYC? As much as I might denigrate it as a liberal haven, it’s a great town. Lots to do. I love going to D.C. and seeing all the museums and such. My visit to Los Angeles a few years ago was worth every penny. Fun, great sights. Great people.

Why are we all discounting each other and the places we live simply due to where people live? My parents, who are base Republicans (not Conservatives), love visiting San Francisco. I know another person who loves to go to Chicago. I have a very liberal friend, a person with a serious case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, who loves going to places like Wyoming to fish. Another who goes to the deepest of Georgia and Alabama to fish.

Mr. Bell once did a piece for his CNN show on the Ku Klux Klan

When the episode aired back in a distant time called April 2016, the major criticism I heard was: “Why are you giving the K.K.K. a platform? We already know the K.K.K. is awful.” Well, my mom taught me that there is no such thing as too much knowledge. And as gobsmacked as my liberal friends were by Donald Trump’s victory, they now know that they definitely didn’t know as much about America as they thought.

And if there was ever a time that we all should take a trip to the other parts of America and spend some time to get to know the people there, it is now.

So, who wants to come with me to Orange Beach?

Perhaps, we should stop imparting Bad Things to places simply due to who lives there. This was the big complaint about Liberals denigrating non-Liberal areas as FLyover Country (and even worse names). And it applies back to liberal areas. When I flew into L.A. and went to pick up my rental car, I had hours to kill till check in at 4pm. The lady at the counter said to avoid Venice Beach, because of all the weirdos. I wasn’t wearing anything that would identify me as a Conservative, and I have very little in the way of a Southern accent. You can’t keep one in Raleigh. I actually still have my more neutral mid-Jersey accent, with a smattering of Southern dialect and words. But, I went there on my last day while killing time before the flight out. You know what? It was great. The weirdos were cool. The art and such. It was a great experience. We could all use a bit of broadening.

It’s worth reading the whole thing. And, I’m up for a trip to Orange Beach. Who wants to head to Malibu?

Bummer: EPA Removes Hotcoldwetdry From Its Website

On the eve of all the hyper-political climate change marches (hilariously, there will be snow at many), the EPA has done something to make all the “let’s take a fossil fueled trip to a march demonizing fossil fuels” Warmists even more upset

(The Hill) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) removed several pages – including those related to climate change – from its website on Friday as part of an update to “reflect the agency’s new direction under President Donald Trump and Administrator Scott Pruitt.”

EPA officials removed the page relating to the Obama administration’s main emissions regulation for power plants, which now directs to an article about an executive order Trump signed in March undoing Obama’s climate agenda.

The agency’s pages relating to climate change, climate science, the impacts of climate change and what readers can do about climate change are all gone from the live site, each replaced with a banner headline saying “this page is being updated.”

The latter should freak out Warmists even more, because there is no telling what the updates might be.

“As EPA renews its commitment to human health and clean air, land and water, our website needs to reflect the views of the leadership of the agency,” said J.P. Freire, the agency’s associate administrator for public affairs, in a statement.

“We want to eliminate confusion by removing outdated language first and making room to discuss how we’re protecting the environment and human health by partnering with states and working within the law.”

What you can bet will go away will be most of the yammering about the current warm period being mostly/solely man-caused.

But, hey, have fun with your little march, Warmists.
