Leader Of (Not) Sinking Island Calls Out Trump On Hotcoldwetdry Or Something

Well, it’s a darned good thing they aren’t building a new airport to go with the 2 other airports in tiny Tuvalu in order to stimulate fossil fueled tourism, ya know

Leader of a Sinking Island Admonishes Trump on Climate Change

The Tuvalu prime minister roasted the US president for his obsession with coal.

The Prime Minister of Tuvalu, an island nation in the Pacific, is calling out President Donald Trump for his myopic views on coal and climate change.

Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga told Motherboard no country is seriously interested in fossil fuel expansion anymore. No one in the US financial community wants to invest in fossil fuels, gas and oil projects are shutting down in the middle East.

Are the only planes allowed to fly into Tuvalu ones powered by unicorn farts?

“The US is going to be left behind. The guy in the White House doesn’t understand that,” Sopoaga said at the UN energy forum in Vienna this week.

When will Tuvalu give up it’s own use of fossil fuels?

Climate change is an urgent concern for Tuvalu, the world’s second smallest country, since it is a mere 10 feet above the Pacific ocean at its highest point. Rising sea levels, driven by man-made climate change, now regularly swamp these tiny islands. Thousands have been forced to move to New Zealand. Without drastic reductions in fossil fuel use, the entire nation will drown.

Tuvalu is partly created by volcanic activity in the past, partly by being a coral atoll. So, it was partly created when the seas were, get this, much higher. And, notice that rarely do any articles note the actual sea rise in the area. They won’t show you data. They won’t say how much the sea is rising. That’s because the actual data would be inconvenient.  Because it has been in the exact normal range for a Holocene warm period, and has even gone negative for a period of time. There’s nothing anthropogenic about it.

And we certainly know this because, if places like Tuvalu really believed, they wouldn’t be building a new airport to stimulate fossil fueled tourism. Nor demanding lots of sweet, sweet, redistributed cash.

LA County Schools Initiate Policy To Block Immigration Enforcement

I’m just not getting this whole talking point about schools being overly political (via Jazz Shaw)

L.A. Unified reasserts its commitment to protect immigrant families

The Los Angeles school board on Tuesday unanimously approved a set of policies that board members said would provide families with a higher level of protection from federal immigration raids.

Among the safeguards in the sweeping set of guidelines: No immigration officers will be allowed on campus without clearance from the superintendent of schools, who will consult with district lawyers. Until that happens, they won’t be let in, even if they arrive with a legally valid subpoena.

“L.A. Unified is basically saying fear stops at [our] door,” said school board member Ref Rodriguez, who co-sponsored the lengthy measure.

Jazz notes

Note that we’re not talking about any sort of random raids or fishing expeditions here. The LA school board is saying that even if officers have a properly issued warrant or subpoena for a specific illegal immigrant they will block the door and prevent the officers from entering until the Superintendent of Schools can be contacted. That individual will no doubt be taking their sweet time, dragging in lawyers and offering every possible opportunity for the suspect to escape. That’s not a policy difference on the part of the school board… it’s a direct example of obstruction of justice and a violation of federal law.

A couple points. First, if school employees block federal law enforcement officials, especially if they are armed with a warrant (I really think that ICE should start getting warrants when dealing with sanctuary jurisdictions, saying “you wanted one? Here. Give us the illegal.”), those employees will quickly find themselves under arrest on a federal felony charge of obstructing justice, at a minimum.

Second, ICE attempts to avoid making arrests at what they call sensitive locations. The policy notes that

“The policies provide that enforcement actions at or focused on sensitive locations such as schools, places of worship, and hospitals should generally be avoided, and that such actions may only take place when (a) prior approval is obtained from an appropriate supervisory official, or (b) there are exigent circumstances necessitating immediate action without supervisor approval.”

It is very rare that ICE makes detainment enforcement at any of those places. They even avoid hanging out there. Interestingly, regular police officers often make arrests are schools and hospitals, the latter usually after bringing the subject to the hospital in the first place, and the former when kids have gotten in to fights, and, as we often hear, a child makes a gun from a poptart or with a finger.

Heck, ICE even avoids making arrests during marches, rallies, and parades, which would be a great place to find lots of illegals, but, they’re probably worried about Leftist supporters of illegal immigration getting violent, which we’ve seen happen.

Interestingly, the policy for the LA Unified was developed by the ACLU over several months. It’s great how the ACLU is attempting to subvert federal law in protecting unlawfully present people over U.S. citizens, and putting school workers at risk of facing federal felony charges.

Trump Sends A Whopping Seven People To U.N. Climate Meeting

This has given Chris Mooney, the Washington Post’s resident uber-Warmist, a big sad, as repeated in the Chicago Tribune

Trump administration’s delegation to UN climate meeting totals 7; France sends 42

The United States government has sent just seven registered participants to a key United Nations meeting on the Paris climate agreement — a smaller delegation than Zimbabwe — underscoring the Trump administration’s deep ambivalence about the historic agreement.

White House officials are expected to huddle on Tuesday to discuss the fate of the agreement — with business leaders and the international community pressing the U.S. to stay in the agreement, and Trump’s conservative allies urging an exit.

The meeting in Bonn, Germany, represents the first of two gatherings this week where international partners will pressure the increasingly recalcitrant U.S. to affirm its role in the agreement of more than 190 nations.

Other industrialized nations such as China, France, and Germany each sent dozens of officials — the French delegation alone had 42 official participants. The U.S. sent 44 official participants just last year.

Hey, maybe President Trump is attempting to show the rest of the members how they’ve made sure the U.S. carbon footprint for the meeting attendance can be kept low.

Lots of different groups are trying to pressure Trump

Meanwhile, a wave of international and domestic lobbying has intensified, with foreign allies and many corporations calling for the U.S. to stick with the deal, even as U.S. political conservatives push for a withdrawal — matching a similar tension between internationalists and conservatives within the White House itself.

“We strongly hope that the US will stay committed to the Paris Accord,” said Francois Delattre, the French ambassador to the United Nations. “This is key in itself but also as an illustration of America’s commitment to world affairs.” (snip)

On Monday, 40 conservative organizations sent president Trump a letter “in enthusiastic support of your campaign commitments to withdraw fully from the Paris Climate Treaty and to stop all taxpayer funding of UN global warming programs.” The groups argue that the U.S. might consider withdrawing from the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change, a 1992 Senate-ratified treaty that is the foundation for subsequent United Nations climate deliberations, including the Paris agreement.

Meanwhile, Google, Apple, and more than 20 other firms took out an ad in the New York Times Monday throwing their support behind the agreement.

Interestingly, so many of the groups advocating that the U.S. stay in a deal that Obama had set up in a manner to avoid the need for the Senate to do its Constitutional duty in ratifying it have large carbon footprints, and their products create large carbon footprints for those that purchase them.

Regardless, what does Trump do? He made very specific promises to end Obama’s agreement that the U.S. join the Paris Climate agreement. Does he break his promise?

Bummer: Woman Who Was Face Of Illegal Immigration Has DACA Status Stripped

She was a cause celebre sparking a national conversation or something

Woman who was face of illegal immigration in metro Atlanta has DACA status revoked

Immigration and Customs enforcement officials said a former Kennesaw State student who was formerly protected as a dreamer had her protection revoked because she deceived law enforcement.

Jessica Colotl, a 29-year-old Mexican national in the country illegally, was formerly protected under an Obama-era program called the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive order. ICE said she lost that protection when she confessed to a felony charge.

“Colotl, an unlawfully present Mexican national, admitted guilt to a felony charge in August 2011 of making a false statement to law enforcement in Cobb County,” Bryan Cox with ICE said.

Cox said that although Colotl was allowed to enter a diversionary program by police in Cobb County, federal law considers her admission of guilt a felony conviction.

Colotl’s attorney, Charles Kuck, disputes that. He said she complied with the terms of pretrial diversion, meaning she does not have a felony conviction.

Her DACA status was terminated on May 3. The next day, a government lawyer asked an immigration judge to issue a deportation order.

The Washington Post and Athens Banner Herald, among others, are running the AP story on this, which delves deep into the timeline, and, of course, has to bring President Trump’s “hardline stance” into the mix, despite the majority of this happening during Obama’s presidency. The Atlanta Journal Constitution also jumps to Trump rather quickly, while also noting

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a statement about her case Wednesday, saying the government has canceled DACA status for about 1,500 people since the start of the program in 2012 because of “criminality or gang affiliation concerns.”

“Deferred action does not, in any way, prevent (the Department of Homeland Security) from moving forward with execution of a removal order,” ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said.

They’re all going on about her causing a national conversation (anyone remember her?) and her being a cause celebre (who?), but, here’s the facts: she was driving without a license, a violation of the law. She lied to law enforcement, a felony. She’s unlawfully present in the United States.

The weird part here is about the whole “separating families” thing. Her mother, who brought her illegally, moved back to Mexico.

“It’s terrifying,” Colotl said of her experience. “It’s unfortunately what I’m going through, but there are many others who are in this situation I’m currently in.”

“We have to keep fighting for what we believe in,” she said later. “At the end of the day, we are talking about Americans — Americans at heart. It’s just a really sad situation because one day you… are spared from deportation, but you do not know what is going to happen the next day.”

Criminals should live in terror. And, here’s an idea: rather than demanding citizenship, rather than getting out in the streets agitating, why not be humble and hold out her hand and say “please?” Why not attempt to go through the proper process to become a U.S. citizen?

Oh, and don’t lie to law enforcement, drive without a license, and create traffic issues.

Student Suspended For Liking A Picture Of A Gun

And the gun wasn’t even real

(NY Post)  A middle school student in Ohio found himself in the crosshairs after “liking” a photo of a gun on social media, complete with the caption “ready.”

Zachary Bowlin, a seventh-grader at Edgewood Middle School in Trenton, received a 10-day suspension after liking the Instagram photo of an airsoft gun late Thursday.

“I don’t think I did anything wrong,” he told KRON. “[The] next morning, they called me down and, like, patted me down and checked me for weapons. Then, they told me I was getting expelled or suspended or whatever.”

Administrators sent Bowlin home with a note indicating the reason for his suspension – liking a post on social media that indicated potential violence.

The liking of the photo of the gun that doesn’t fire actual bullets didn’t even occur during school time. School administrators made up a few excuses, but, one has to wonder how, exactly, they found out about Zachary liking the picture. Did someone complain, or are school administrators monitoring (spying on) the social media accounts of students who are not on school property and school is not in session?

From Fox 19

Below is the statement given to FOX19 NOW by Superintendent Russ Fussnecker:

“Concerning the recent social media posting of a gun with the caption “Ready”, and the liking of this post by another student, the policy at Edgewood City Schools reads as follows:

The Board has a “zero tolerance” of violent, disruptive, harassing, intimidating, bullying, or any other inappropriate behavior by its students.

Furthermore, the policy states:

Students are also subject to discipline as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct that occurs off school property when the misbehavior adversely affects the educational process.

As the Superintendent of the Edgewood City Schools, I assure you that any social media threat will be taken serious including those who “like” the post when it potentially endangers the health and safety of students or adversely affects the educational process.”

Liking a photo of a fake gun isn’t violent, disruptive, harassing, intimidating, or bullying. I supposed Wrongthink could be considered inappropriate behavior in Liberal World. But, come on, really, discipline for what happens off school property for liking a freaking photo?

Fortunately, the suspension was lifted when Zachary’s parents hit the roof.

HB2 Hurt North Carolina So Much It Generated Record Visitor Revenue For 2016

Huh. This is weird. The media constantly beat the gong that HB2, the so-called Bathroom Bill, would really hurt North Carolina economically. You had Progressive states implementing “travel bans” on the government dime (yet refusing to say what the bathroom policies were in government buildings in their states). But, hey, what’s this!

(WRAL) North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Anthony M. Copeland announced Monday that North Carolina tourism generated record visitor spending in 2016 with a total of $22.9 billion, a 4.3 percent increase from 2015.

“Nearly 50 million people from across the United States visited North Carolina destinations last year,” Copeland said. “The money they spent supported 218,340 jobs and more than 45,000 businesses.”

Tourism industry-supported employment topped 218,000 jobs to set another record for the state.

These are facts, not opinions. It’s quite apparent that most people really aren’t concerned with the gender confused being told that government cannot force private businesses to accommodate them, and that government cannot force women and girls to have their privacy invaded in their bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms by confused biological males.

The Next Climate Threshold Could Maybe Possibly Come In 15 Years Or Something

The next failed tipping point is just on the horizon! Everybody panic!

Earth could break through a major climate threshold in the next 15 years, study says

Global temperatures could exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius above their preindustrial levels within the next 15 years, according to a new scientific study, crossing the first threshold under the Paris climate agreement and placing the world at a potentially dangerous level of climate change.

The report comes as climate agreement participants are watching the United States — where the Trump administration is debating whether to withdraw from the Paris accord — and as scientists with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are working on a special report about the 1.5-degree goal (equivalent to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) and the consequences of overshooting it.

According to the vast majority of computer models, that threshold should have been crossed years ago. I wonder what went wrong?

That IPCC’s upcoming special report and the increasing urgency about minimizing global warming were one impetus for the study, according to co-author Benjamin Henley, a research fellow at the University of Melbourne in Australia. “We are working on a number of scientific avenues to help inform that report,” he told The Washington Post.

In other words, this was a political, not scientific, document. It’s meant for policy makers, the same ones who continuously use lots and lots of fossil fuels running around the world to their conferences while demanding that Everyone Else be stopped by Government from using fossil fuels. Oh, and recommending lots of fees and taxes along with more Governmental control of people’s lives. That’s what this is all about.

Meanwhile, President Trump will hold off on his decision regarding the Paris Climate Agreement till after the G7. This is getting tiresome, and makes me wonder if he’ll ever keep his promise to cancel America’s involvement in it.

NY Times: Trump’s Firing Of James Comey Was All About Russia Russia Russia

By now you certainly know about President Trump firing FBI Director James Comey. Here’s the pink slip

https://twitter.com/spettypi/status/862061268714348544

You can see a more detailed rationale here, via Hot Air.

Of course, this has sent all the Democrats and media figures who wanted Comey fired last year to go Full Moonbat. Politico is wondering if this is a Constitutional crisis, a question not asked when President Bill Clinton fired his FBI director. And a crisis of American rule of law. And we’re getting stories about this being like Watergate and Nixonian. And all Russia Russia Russia. Here’s the freakout from the Editorial Board of the NY Times

Donald Trump’s Firing of James Comey

The American people — not to mention the credibility of the world’s oldest democracy — require a thorough, impartial investigation into the extent of Russia’s meddling with the 2016 presidential election on behalf of Donald Trump and, crucially, whether high-ranking members of Mr. Trump’s campaign colluded in that effort.

By firing the F.B.I. director, James Comey, late Tuesday afternoon, President Trump has cast grave doubt on the viability of any further investigation into what could be one of the biggest political scandals in the country’s history.

So far, when asked, no federally elected Democrat, whether in the House or Senate, can answer that they have any evidence that links the Trump campaign to Russia. They have their talking points when in front of their constituents, but, when actually on the record, they say “nope, none.”

The media, from the NY Times to Washington Post to the Big 3 networks to all the smaller outlets to overseas outlets have spent lots and lots of time on this whole Russia thing, and, you can bet, lots of time attempting to investigate and find the smoking gun. After all these months, there is no evidence. Innuendo from partisans, but no evidence.

Did Russia attempt to influence the election? Well, sure. Just like they attempted with France. Just like Obama just attempted with France. Just like Team Obama attempted with Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries. Just like Team Obama tried with Brexit. Just like the sitting U.S. president attempted to get Hillary elected. The U.S., for right or wrong, has meddled in plenty of countries and elections, just like Russia did. Had Hillary won, there would have been lots of talking points about Russia getting her elected. It was a win win for Putin and Russia, causing more turmoil between the Left and Right.

The explanation for this shocking move — that Mr. Comey’s bungling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server violated longstanding Justice Department policy and profoundly damaged public trust in the agency — is impossible to take at face value. Certainly Mr. Comey deserves all the criticism heaped upon him for his repeatedmissteps in that case, but just as certainly, that’s not the reason Mr. Trump fired him. (snip)

Mr. Comey was fired because he was leading an active investigation that could bring down a president. Though compromised by his own poor judgment, Mr. Comey’s agency has been pursuing ties between the Russian government and Mr. Trump and his associates, with potentially ruinous consequences for the administration.

Obviously, the NY Times EB have a psychic on staff now. If Comey had any information, Trump would have been worried that firing him would allow Comey to speak out, would he not? Comey would become a whistleblower. Mr. Trump has no concerns, because there is no evidence, no matter how much the partisan media folks at the NY Times want there to be. Does anyone not think that the big shots at the Times aren’t spending lots of time and money on attempting to find evidence? You know they were pushing hard before the election, and now, 7 months later, they still have exactly nothing.

Time to move on, Democrats. This rabbit hole is empty.
